Mohanlal’s upcoming movies in 2018!

This year, Mohanlal continued from where he left in 2016. After delivering huge blockbusters like ‘Janatha Garage’, ‘Oppam’ and ‘Pulimurugan’, much was expected of him this year. He started the year with ‘Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol’, a family entertainer in which he played the role of a middle-aged family man. The movie was lapped up by the audience and emerged as a big commercial success. While his Vishu release ‘1971 Beyond Borders’ failed miserably at the box office, his Onam outing ‘Velipadinte Pusthakam’ managed to fare well despite the mixed reviews. His much talked about ‘Villain’ also could not live up to the expectations and ended up as an average grosser.

Mohanlal has some highly exciting projects coming up in 2018. He will start shooting for Odiyan’s final schedule from the first week of January. Recently, the superstar stunned everyone with his physical transformation by shedding around 18 kilos. He lost his body weight for Odiyan, an ambitious movie which marks the directorial debut of Shrikumar Menon.

Odiyan is arguably one of the most anticipated movies in South India. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, the movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice are called odiyans. Mohanlal is playing the role of odiyan Manikyan, who is said to be the last living odiyan in the world. Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. He is a fabulous athlete who can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. The movie follows his life from his childhood to his 60s and hence Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget movie which is expected to hit screens by the end of 2018.

After the completion of Odiyan, Mohanlal is likely to start shooting for Ajoy Varma’s film. The director, a former associate of Ram Gopal Varma and Rajiv Anchal, is making his Malayalam debut with this upcoming movie. He has previously directed a Hindi movie titled SRK. As per reports, Meena, Prakash Raj and Trisha will be seen in prominent roles in this yet-to-be-titled film. Newcomer Saju Thomas has scripted this movie, a thriller which will be shot in Mumbai, Pune, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

By June, Mohanlal’s much talked about ‘Lucifer’ will go on floors. Young star Prithviraj is making his directorial debut with this movie scripted by Murali Gopy. Not much is known about the film but it is easily one of the most awaited ones of 2018. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this biggie.

Shaji Kailas is also set to reunite with Mohanlal next year after a decade long gap. Renji Panicker is scripting the film and will be produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. Mohanlal is also in talks with Bhadran, Priyadarshan, Joshiy and Shyamaprasad; but offical announcements regarding these projects have not yet been made.
