Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam is gearing up to start shooting for his next film – a multi-starrer with several leading actors. The director has pulled off a casting coup by roping in Arvind Swamy, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Simbu, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh for his next movie. Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies will be producing the movie, which is expected to go on floors by the end of January.

Recently, there were lot of talks about Simbu acting in the film. The actor has been served with a red card by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TFPC) based on the complaint filed by Michael Rayappan, the producer of his last film Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA). There were even reports about TFPC members calling Mani Ratnam and asking him not to cast him. But it looks like the director is unfazed by all that and is moving forward with Simbu.

Last day, Simbu shared a photo of him with Mani Ratnam in his offical social media handle. He was attending an acting workshop with the legendary filmmaker for their upcoming movie. Simbu also seeked blessings from the director for his musical debut Sakka Podu Podu Raja which has Santhanam in the lead.

For his upcoming multi-starrer, Mani Ratnam has brought on board his regular set of technicians- composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Santhosh Sivan and editor Sreekar Prasad.

Anirudh to compose for Shankar’s Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan

It is already known that Shankar and Kamal Haasan are reuniting after two decades for the sequel of their 1996 classic film, Indian. The project was announced officially on the Bigg Boss Tamil finale stage, which was hosted by Kamal. Leading Telugu producer Dil Raju of Sri Venkateswara Creations was initially supposed to fund this highly ambitious project but opted out citing heavy production cost. Lyca Productions have taken up the film which is currently in the initial stages.

Director Shankar and his team are busy finalizing the cast and crew. As per latest reports, the makers have signed young sensation Anirudh Ravichander to handle the music department in Indian 2. Bagging such a huge project is indeed a remarkable achievement for the 27-year-old Anirudh.

Except for Anniyan and Nanban, all of Shankar’s films have all had music by the maestro AR Rahman. Seems looks like the director is now trying to get some much needed freshness by roping in the highly talented Anirudh. The young composer has carved a niche for himself in the industry despite being around for just 6 years. He has already worked for big stars like Vijay, Ajith and Suriya.

Anirudh is now expanding his wings to Telugu film industry with two big projects coming up – Pawan Kalayan’s Agnyaathavaasi and Jr NTR’ next. He has previously worked with director Shankar for ‘I’, in which he lent his voice to the super hit track ‘Mersalayitten’, composed by AR Rahman.

Indian 2 will have Kamal Haasan reprising the role of vigilante Senapathi. Reportedly, the actor will be shedding weight for the upcoming movie. He will be working with a special trainer from the US to help him lose the extra pounds. Ace cinematographer Ravi Varman and art director T Muthuraj have been brought on board for Indian 2.

The movie is being planned to be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. Pre-production works will start in full swing once Shankar is free from his commitments for 2.0. Kamal is also expected to finish his works for the long delayed Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabaash Naidu.

The much awaited Sivakarthikeyan-Fahadh Faasil starrer Velaikkaran is finally releasing this Friday amidst massive hype. Written and directed by Mohan Raja, the movie has its music by Anirudh Ravichander and is produced by RD Raja of 24 AM Studios. Unlike other Tamil films, Velaikkaran will not have a trailer but some very interesting promo videos.

The makers have been releasing promo videos at regular intervals and the latest one is out now. It is another very intense 15 second second video which gives a sneak-peak to the movie’s core theme of a common man’s battle against the corporate’s.

Expectations are high among the audience for Velaikkaran majorly due to the stellar star cast and the fact that the director’s last film Thani Oruvan was a widely acclaimed one. Like his previous film, Mohan Raja has come up with a socially relevant commercial entertainer this time as well.

Velaikkaran explores the life of workers and discusses current social issues. The makers have dedicated the movie to the working class people. Sivakarthikeyan plays Arivu, a slum dweller while Fahadh plays Aadhi, which is said to be a grey shaded role. There are different layers to the relationship between these two lead characters. They have two different perspectives on workers and are at loggerheads with each other. There is also a guru-sishya element and it also has a clash of personalities.

Velaikkaran’s huge star cast also includes Nayanthara, Sneha, Prakash Raj, Rohini, Thambi Ramaiah, Robo Shankar, RJ Balaji, Sathish and many others.

Actress Nazirya Nazim is celebrating her birthday today. Wishes are pouring in for the pretty actress from fans, well wishers and colleagues all across the globe. Prithviraj was one of the first to wish her through his official Facebook page. An adorable photo of Nazriya and him was shared and along with that Prithviraj has written,

“Happy birthday to the closest thing I’ve had to a baby sister! May you be as incorrigible forever!”

Prithviraj and Nazirya are working together in Anjali Menon’s upcoming movie which also stars Parvathy in the lead. Prithviraj and Nazirya play siblings in the film and it looks their on-screen relationship has transpired off screen as well.

In a recent interview also Prithviraj had mentioned about how close he is to Nazriya. He had said, “Nazirya is like my baby sister. I didn’t know how much I wanted a younger sister until I met her.”

This upcoming movie is quite special as it marks Nazriya’s much awaited comeback to the industry after her marriage with Bangalore Days co-star Fahadh Faasil. After wrapping up the ongoing schedule in Ooty, the team will be shifting to Kerala and later to UAE. Dulquer Salmaan congratulates team Parava on completing 100 days in theatres!

Actor Soubin Shahir’s directorial debut Parava has successfully reached it’s 100th day of theatrical run today. Despite facing stiff competition from a slew of other releases, the movie managed to stay rock solid at the box office. The extremely positive word of mouth and Dulquer Salmaan’s presence attracted audience to theatres in large numbers.

As Parava completes it’s 100th day today, Dulquer has congratulated the team for pulling off such a big success through his official Facebook handle. In this age of piracy and digitalization, it is not often that a Malayalam movie enjoys a 100 day run in theatres.

Parava was released on September 21 and took a stellar opening at the box office, thanks to Dulquer’s amazing star power. The movie tells the story of two adolescent boys who rear pigeons for racing, which is commonly practiced in the Mattanchery regions in Kochi. Soubin jointly scripted the movie along with newcomer Muneer Ali.

Parava has a big star cast which includes a host of newcomers and veterans. Teenagers Amal Shah and Govind V Pai play the protagonists in the movie. Dulquer appears in an extended cameo role. It is his presence that did wonders for the movie in terms of its pre-release buzz and the excellent initial collections. Shane Nigam, Harisree Ashokan’s son Arjun Ashokan, late actor Zainudeen’s son Zinil Zainudeen, Siddique, Aashiq Abu, Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Jacob Gregory and Srinda Arhaan form the supporting cast.

Parava is produced by director Anwar Rasheed and Shyju Unni under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments.

It is already known that Priyadarshan is remaking the super hit Malayalam movie Maheshinte Prathikaram in Tamil. Udhayinidhi Stalin is playing the lead role in this movie titled as Nimir. Malayali actresses Namitha Pramod and Parvatii Nair will be seen as the two female leads.

Maheshinte Prathikaram is unarguably one of the finest Malayalam movies in the past decades. What made it so beautiful is its relatable story, the realistic setting and endearing performances from all the actors. So, it is not a cakewalk to remake a successful movie in another langauge and adpat it to suit the sensibilities of a different set of audience. However, Priyadarshan is used to remaking films. He has time and again proved his ability to remake movies without losing the essence of the original version.

As per reports, the director has done a great job with remaking Maheshinte Prathikaram as Nimir. There were a of apprehensions about how Udhayanidhi Stalin will be able to do justice to a character that Fahadh Faasil did remarkably well. But it now looks like Priyadarshan was spot-on with his casting as Udhayinidhi is said to have delivered one of his best ever performances.

In a recent interview, he said, “After watching the film in a preview show, my wife appreciated me saying that I have done a better job than Manithan. I have done only 50% of what Fahadh Faasil did in the original but happy that she loved my performance.”

Regarding why he roped in Udhayanidhi, Priyadarshan said, “I wanted Udhay to behave for the situation and not to act. The film required an actor with the boy next door image and we adapted the original version with necessary commercial ingredients”.

Priyadarshan has slightly tweaked the original script by giving more prominence to humour so as to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Actor Samuthirakani is penning the dialogues and he is also playing the villain role in the movie. MS Bhaskar, director Mahendran and Karunakaran are also part of the supporting cast.

Priyadarshan has retained most of his technicians from Oppam for this upcoming movie also. NK Ekambaram is wielding the camera and MS Ayyappan Nair is handling the edits. Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this movie, which is slated to hit screens on January 26.

Malayalam cinema can probably be divided into two periods – before Pulimurugan and after Pulimurugan. Such was the impact that the movie’s phenomenal success had on the industry. By becoming the first ever Malayalam movie to gross Rs 100 crores, it gave hopes to other filmmakers in the industry to invest in big budget projects. Its record-breaking success showed the real potential of Malayalam movies.

Even after an year of its release, the wave that Pulimurugan created has not yet settled. The latest in its slew of achievements is that movie’s music and background score has found its place in the list of original songs and themes, respectively, that are eligible for nomination for the 90th Academy Awards.

Pulimurugan’s composer Gopi Sunder is still in state of disbelief as it is the only Indian movie to feature in the list this year. The songs ‘Kaadanayum Kaalchilambe’, sung by KJ Yesudas and KS Chitra, and ‘Maanathe Maarikurumbe’, by Vani Jayaram, feature in the list of 70 songs that are eligible for contention.

The final nomination will have five songs out of the selected 70. The final list of nominated songs will be released on January 23 and the 90th Academy Awards will be held on March 4, 2018.

Written by Udhayakrishna and directed by Vysakh, Pulimurugan had Mohanlal in the titular role. The movie told the story of a wild hunter who kills man eating tigers. It is commercial mass entertainer with some spectacular fight sequences. The movie became a rage upon its release as audience including families and kids thronged theaters in large numbers.

Kamalini Mukherjee played the female lead in this movie which also had Lal, Jagapathi Babu, Bala, Makarand Deshpande, Vinu Mohan and many others in supporting roles. Pulimurugan was bankrolled by Tomichan Mulakupadam under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion to release in Japan on Dec 29!

SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise holds a special place in Indian cinema history. Both the parts in the series were massive blockbusters and won global acclaim. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, released in April this year, went on to gross over Rs 1000 crores at the box office. The movie was released in four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi – simultaneously.

After conquering markets like US, UK and other European countries, Baahubali 2 is now eyeing to own the Japanese box office. The movie is getting released in Japan after eight months of the original’s release. As per latest reports, the Japanese version is slated to release on December 29. The movie recently cleared its censor formalities and has been rated ‘G’, which is equivalent to ‘U’ certificate in our Indian censor system.

Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan and Naseer essayed pivotal characters in the action-epic saga. Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni produced the franchise under the banner of Arka Works. Reportedly, the rights for the Japanese version were acquired by a local distribution house for a huge amount.

Superstar Rajinikanth is the only Indian hero to create an impact at the Japanese box office. Baahubali’s first part, Baahubali: The Beginning, didn’t perform as per the trade expectations in Japan. It remains to be seen how the second and final part is going to received by audience there.

Santhosh T Kuruvilla confirms producing the biggest South Indian film with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan!

Producer Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment had earlier announced that he will be funding a big budget movie with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. Soon, the director revealed that they are planning to make a movie on Kunjali Marakkar, the legendary naval chieftain. But soon there arose a confusion as August Cinema is also planning a movie on the same subject with Mammootty.

While the confusion still prevails, producer Santhosh T Kuruvilla has made it clear that he will be funding a big budget movie with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. He recently shared a few photos in his Facebook page and has written,

“My friend brother and partner birthday at lalettan house in chennai….again announcing I will do the biggest movie in south india with my heros lalettan and priyettan”

Santhosh T Kuruvilla has earlier mentioned that it was his long cherished dream from childhood to work with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. The actor-director duo have given some all time classics like Chithram, Kilukkam, Adhwaitham, Abhimanyu, Vellanakalude Naadu, Thalavattam etc. They last worked together in the superhit film Oppam, which was released last year.
