Iraiva: Here’s a new promo video of Velaikkaran!

Director Mohan Raja’s highly anticipated film Velaikkaran is gearing up for a grand Christmas release. The movie starring Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara is much awaited by the audience. With less than a week remaining for the release, the makers have released couple of promo videos of the movie.

This new promo is centered around the beautiful song ‘Iraiva’ featuring the lead pair Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara. The song is rendered by composer Anirudh and Jonita Gandhi. Penned by Viveka, the song brings out two emotions – life and love. This track does sound like two songs merged into one. The mp3 version of the song has already become a hit and is topping the music charts currently.

Velaikkaran is a commercial entertainer with a very relevant social message in it. While the director’s previous film Thani Oruvan was about medical mafia, Velaikaaran is said to be about food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corrupt system.

Velaikkaran has a strong supporting cast which includes Sneha, Prakash Raj, Vijay Vasanth, Robo Shankar, Thambi Ramiah, Rohini, RJ Balaji, Sathish and Thambi Ramiah among others. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is funding this movie slated to hit screens worldwide on December 22.

Kunchako Boban’s yet-to-be released Shikkari Shambu to be remade in Tamil

The trend of remaking Malayalam movies have been prevalent for a long time. But it is not often that the remake rights of a movie gets sold even before its release. Reportedly, Kunchacko Boban’s upcoming release Shikkari Shambu is one such film. It is learnt that the movie’s Tamil remake rights has already been acquired by a leading production house in Kollywood.

Shikkari Shambu marks the reunion of Kunchacko Boban with director Sugeeth and writer Nishad Koya after delivering hits like Ordinary and Madhura Naranga. It is a fun entertainer set in a fictional village ‘Kuruthimalakavu’ located at the heart of the beautiful Idamalayar and Bhoothathankettu. The core plot evolves when Peeli, played by Kunchacko Boban, and his gang reach the village in the disguise of wild hunters.

Sshivada is paired opposite Kunchacko Boban in this movie. Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Hareesh Kanaran, Krishna Kumar, newbie Alphy Panjikaran and Salim Kumar play other major roles. Directors Aji John, Johnny Antony and MA Noushad are also part of the supporting cast.

Popular Tamil producer RK Suresh is playing the villain role in this movie. Reportedly, the Tamil remake rights of Shikkari Shambu has been acquired by him after being impressed by the subject. The movie’s story is written by Shanavas Abbas and Raju Chandra.

Shoot for Shikkari Shambu has already been wrapped up and the team is currently busy with post-production works. Lawrence Angel Maria Films is producing this movie which is expected to hit screens early next year.

Dhanush to team up with Mersal’s makers for a big budget period film!

Dhanush is a very busy actor these days. He is simultaneously shooting for two films – Gautham Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta and Vetrimaran’s Vada Chennai. In the meanwhile, reports are abuzz about him wearing the director’s hat once again after the hit film Power Pandi. Unlike his debut film, he is planning to make a movie on a bigger canvas this time.

Reportedly, he is working on a period subject for his next film. The movie’s core plot is set in the pre-Independence era. Dhanush himself is said to be playing the lead role in it. He is in talks with leading production house Thenandal Studios Limited (TSL) for funding this movie.

TSL is on a high after the smashing success of their last release, Mersal. The Vijay starrer emerged as an industrial hit by doing a business of over Rs 250 crores worldwide. They are also funding Sundar C’s magnum opus Sangamithra, which is still in the pre-production phase. If reports are to be believed, TSL have already shown their interest to produce Dhanush’s upcoming period flick.

Dhanush has shown much promise as a filmmaker with his debut film Power Pandi itself. The heartwarming tale of a 60-year-old fight master’s quest for his long lost love found appreciation from the critics as well as the commoners.

From the past itself, Malayalam cinema has seen a lot of well known directors turning to actors. From seniors like Lal, Renji Panicker, Ranjith to younger generation directors like Aashiq Abu, Aji John and Basil Joseph, many have showcased their acting skills on-screen. Latest to that interesting list of directors-turned-actors is Arun Gopy, who made a blockbuster debut earlier this year with the much talked about Dileep starrer Ramaleela.

Arun Gopy is playing the lead role in journalist-turned-filmmaker Ratheesh Reghunath’s directorial debut. Shoot for the movie will kick-start by the end of February, next year. Krishnan Sethukumar is producing this movie under the banner of Srivari Films. Their last production was Sunny Wayne’s average grosser Pokkiri Simon – Oru Kaduththa Aaradhakan.

Arun Gopy started his career in the industry as an assistant director. He has assisted senior filmmakers Iike Lenin Rajendran, K Madhu and VM Vinu before turning and independent director with Ramaleela. He had to endure a lot of troubles before the release of his debut film but all that paid off as the movie emerged as a huge success. Arun Gopy proved his ability as a director with Ramaleela, now it is time to see his acting skills.

Soubin Shahir is currently on a high after the success of his debut directorial Parava. On the personal front too, Soubin is having a great time as he got married to his long time girlfriend Jamia Zaheer today. The marriage function was attended by the couple’s close friends and family members.

The 34-year-old Soubin entered the film industry as an assistant director back in 2003. He has assisted several filmmakers like Fazil, Siddique, Amal Neerad, Santhosh Sivan, Rafi Mecartin, P Sukumar etc. He started his acting career with Rajeev Ravi’s Annayum Rasoolum.

Soubin soon established himself as a much-in-demand supporting actor doing several notable roles. With an experience worth over a decade, Soubin finally made his directorial debut earlier this year with Parava. The movie starring Dulquer Salmaan, Shane Nigam and a host of newcomers garnered good response from the critics as well as the common audience.

As an actor, Soubin currently has multiple films lined up in his kitty. Mammootty’s Streetlights, Biju Menon’s Rosapoo and Manju Warrier’s Mohanlal are some of his films in the pipeline. He is also playing one of the leads in debutant Zakariya’s upcoming movie Sudani from Nigeria, which is being produced by Sameer Thahir and Shyju Khalid.

Director Lal Jose’s last release was Velipadinte Pusthakam with superstar Mohanlal. The movie wad released amidst high expectations for the Onam season but mostly garnered mixed reviews from the critics. The movie eventually managed to do some average business thanks to Mohanlal’s star power and the smashing success of ‘Jimikki Kammal’ song.

As per latest reports, the director is now planning to start his next film with Sreenivasan in the lead. This yet-to-be-titled movie is scripted by Unni R, noted for his works like Munnariyippu and Charlie. Earlier this year, Lal Jose and Unni R were supposed to team up for ‘Oru Bhayankara Kamukan’, a romantic thriller with Dulquer Salmaan. However, it now looks like that project has been shelved due to the star’s commitments in other industries.

Shebin Backer who was supposed to produce Oru Bhayankara Kamukan is funding the upcoming Sreenivasan film as well. This is his second film with director Lal Jose after producing the 2013 hit film Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum. This upcoming movie is being planned to go on floors on January 25.

Lal Jose and Sreenivasan share a wonderful rapport as they have worked together in a good number of films. In fact, the director’s debut film ‘Oru Maravathoor Kanavu’ starring Mammootty was scripted by Sreenivasan. Arabikkatha, unarguably one of Lal Jose’s best films till date also had Sreenivasan in the lead role. So, the Malayali audience are expecting another quality film from the duo when they team up next year.

Mamankam’s pre-production in full swing; M Jayachandran confirmed as the music director!

The announcement of Mammootty’s historic-epic film came as a pleasant surprise to the audience. If there is one actor in Malayalam who has proved his amazing ability to act in such films, it has to be Mammootty. His performances in films like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Pazhassi Raja have earned him numerous accolades including the National Award for best actor. Naturally, expectations are on the higher side for Mamankam.

Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Sajeev has scripted the film after doing extensive research works for nearly 12 years. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is backing this big budget project, which is said to be the biggest project in the megastar’s career.

Pre-production works for the movie is currently progressing at a rapid pace. Veteran composer M Jayachandran has already been confirmed as the music director. The makers are also in talks with some other leading technicians for associating with this ambitious project. Casting process is also happening simultaneously and will be finalized in a couple of week’s time. They had already made it clear that, apart from Mammootty, many other big stars will also be part of this film.

The movie is based on Mamankam, the medieval fair, which was celebrated every 12 years from 800 AD to 1755 AD. Mamankam festival was held on the banks of Bharathapuzha in Tirunavaya where brave warriors from across the country who would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty will be seen as a Chekavar in this upcoming movie.

Mangalore and Kasargod have been finalized as the major locations. If reports are to be believed, the movie will go on floors by February end. Mammootty is expected to join the sets by March after finishing his other prior commitments. Mamankam is being planned to be shot in multiple schedules and is excepted to hit screens sometime in 2019.

Promising young filmmaker Aashiq Abu is back after a gap of two years with Mayaanadhi, an intense love story. Tovino Thomas and Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela fame Aishwarya Lekshmi play the lead roles in this movie, slated to hit screens on December 22 as a Christmas release.

Last day, the makers released the new song video from the movie. ‘Kaatil’, the song is penned by talented young lyricist Vinayak Sasikumar and is composed by Rex Vijayan. Musician Shahabaz Aman has lent his voice for this soulful track. ‘Uyirin Nadhiye’, the first song, which was released earlier this month, has emerged as a chart buster as well.

Mayaanadhi is said to be a romantic thriller. It is jointly scripted by Dileesh Nair and Shyam Pushkar. The movie has an elaborate supporting cast which includes Aparna Balamurali, Harish Uthaman, Leona Lishoy, Nizhalgal Ravi and Soubin Shahir among others. Directors Lijo Jose Pellissery and Basil Joseph also appear in cameo roles in the movie.

Mayaanadhi is produced jointly by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mill Cinemas and Santhosh T Kuruvila’s Moonshot Entertainment. Rex Vijayan is handling the music department and Jayesh Mohan has cranked the camera. Saiju Sreedharan is in charge of the edits.

Just like his earlier films, the director has come up with an interesting combination of actors for and this one and it looks very promising. The director is known for coming up with new concepts and naturally his next film also has a fair share of expectations among the audience.

The director shared a photo of him with former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan today on his offical social media handle. He has hinted about a possible collaboration as he has captioned it as, “More to come in this space….”

Irfan Pathan was one of the most successful all rounders in Indian cricket’s history. He was recently in Kerala for a promotional event. The photo taken with Anil Radhakrishnan Menon is doing the rounds in social medias. Speculations are rife about the duo teaming up for a new film. If it happens, Irfan will be joining the bandwagon of actors who made it to the film industry from the cricket field. Let’s wait for an official confirmation from the makers side.

The director’s Diwanjimoola Grand Prix is said to be a fun adventure film and a social satire set in Thrissur. It is scripted jointly by him and former Kozhikode collector Prashanth Nair. Besides Kunchacko Boban, then movie also stars Nyla Usha, Nedumudi Venu, Vinayakan, Siddique, Rajeev Pillai, Ashokan, Rajeev Pillai and many others. It is his fourth film after the widely acclaimed North 24 Kaatham, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha and Lord Livingston 7000 kandi.
