Popular yesteryear actress Shanthi Krishna made her comeback after a long gap of nearly two decades with Nivin Pauly’s Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela (NNOI). Her performance as Sheela Chacko, the cancer affected mother-of-three won her a lot of appreciation from the critics as well as the common audience. After the overwhelmingly positive reviews for NNOI, the veteran actress is now getting a lot of solid offers in the industry.

She is currently working in Kunchacko Boban’s upcoming movie Kuttandan Marpapa. Shanthi Krishna plays Chackochan’s mother in the movie, but her character here is extremely in contrast to what she essayed in NNOI. It is a jovial character with a lot of funny one-liners.

In a recent interview, Kunchacko Boban said that Shanthi Krishna was initially quite apprehensive about pulling off such a character but she eventually has done a great job. Her character runs a ration shop in the film and shares a lot of screen space with Dharmajan Bolgatty.

Kuttanadan Marpapa is a fun filled entertainer which marks the directorial debut of cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Sreejith Vijayan. Alamara fame Aditi Ravi plays Kunchacko Boban’s love interest in this movie which also stars Aju Varghese, Salim Kumar, Innocent and Ramesh Pisharody in major supporting roles.

Mohanlal’s last release Villain has successfully completed its 50 days theatrical run in a few centers in Kerala. The success celebration was held today at Aries Plex theatre in Trivandrum. Director B Unnikrishnan shared the photos in his official Facebook page. Along with the photos, he has also written,

“Celebration with Ariesplex staff on the 50th day of Villain. We will be celebrating this soon in EKM on a big scale with the entire cast and crew and the production team of the film. This success is very, very special. Thank you to all who have supported and appreciated. A big smile to those who have despised and degraded.”

Villain released in a record number of screens on October 27 all across the state. The movie had huge expectations among the audience thanks to its highly impressive promos and the stellar star cast. However, the movie opened to mixed reports from the commoners, who expected it to be a mass entertainer. Fans were disappointed with the movie as it follows a very serious mood while they expected it be a Grandmaster style thriller.

After the initial mixed reviews, the movie found its right audience among the families, who seemed to like the emotional factor in the movie. It is a slow paced thriller which is high on emotions and maintains an intense nature throughout the narrative. Despite that the movie managed to hold steady at the box office.

Apart from Mohanlal, Villain had a huge star supporting cast comprising of Manju Warrier, Vishal, Hansika Motwani, Srikanth and Raashi Khanna. Rockline Venkatesh funded the movie under his banner Rockline Films.

Sivakarthikeyan starrer Velaikkaran is one of the most awaited films of the season. The movie is gearing up for release this Christmas season amidst humongous expectations. It is Mohan Raja’s next after the blockbuster success of Thani Oruvan. Just like his previous film, the director has come up with a socially relevant topic this time as well.

Mohan Raja in a recent media interaction said that the youngsters participation in the Jallikattu protests and the 2015 Chennai floods inspired him to make Velaikkaran. He has dedicated this movie to the working class people as a tribute to their struggles. The movie is about a slum dweller’s fight against the corrupt system.

Sivakarthikeyan plays the character Arivu in the movie. The actor has rated it as the most challenging role in his career till date. His character goes through three different phases and had to emote a lot more than what he does in his usual films. Mohan Raja assured that Velaikkaran will be a movie that Sivakarthikeyan can always be proud of.

Recently, the movie was screened for the censor board officials for film certification. It is reported that the officials were highly impressed and awarded the movie a clean U certificate without cutting any scene.

Velaikkaran’s stellar star cast includes Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Sneha, Prakash Raj, RJ Balaji, Sathish, Rohini and many others. Anirudh Ravichander has done the music and his songs have already turned into chart busters. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is funding this big budget movie, slated to hit screens worldwide on December 22.

Mohanlal’s fit new avatar that he achieved for his upcoming movie Odiyan is the latest talk of M Town. The 57-year-superstar’s trim and young new look was unveiled recently with a teaser which took the internet by storm. Mohanlal has been under a strict diet regime for over 50 days to reduce his weight and it is reported that he has shed around 18 kgs for the movie.

In an illustrious career spanning over four decades, this is the is the first time Mohanlal has taken so much efforts to play a character and that itself speaks volumes about his hopes on the movie. Some of his photos from his recent airport visit is trending virally in social medias.

Odiyan scripted by Harikrishnan and directed by Shirkumar Menon is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice. People who used to practice are called odiyans and Mohanlal plays odiyan Manikyan in the movie. He is said to be the last living odiyan in the world. The movie follows his life from childhood to his 60s. Hence the actor will be seen in multiple looks in the movie.

Apart from Mohanlal, Odiyan has some other leading actors like Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier. Narain, Kailash, Sana Alathaf, Innocent and Siddique are also part of the supporting cast. The movie also boats of a supporting cast which includes stunt choreographer Peter Hein, cinematographer Shaji Kumar and editor Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran is composing the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame is in charge of the background score.

Third schedule of Odiyan will kick-start in January and is expected to last for a month. This big budget movie is funded by Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas.

The movie starring Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in the lead roles is one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year. The success of Thani Oruvan, the stellar star cast and Anirudh’s songs are the major reasons for such high expectations.

Velaikkaran lies on similar lines to Thani Oruvan. While that film was about medical mafia, Velaikaaran deals with food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corrupt system. The makers have dedicated the movie to the working class people.

Recently, director Mohan Raja said that he is very confident about the movie as it is the story of every commoner. As per the director, the movie is easily relatable to the hardworking laborers of the society. He is quoted saying, “No one can bash or troll Velaikkaran. The common man will be able to relate to the film. I’ve asked a lot more questions, relating to the common man, here than in Thani Oruvan. I feel the responsibility to do good cinema, not just another time pass entertainer”

Dhanush is widely known for his acting skills. A National award winner, he has established himself as a huge bankable star in the industry after delivering several blockbuster films. Despite being a highly talented actor, he has tried his hand at various other departments like playback singing, lyric writing, production and screenwriting.

Last year, he turned an independent filmmaker with Power Pandi. It was a successful affair at the box office and was well received by the critics. As per latest reports, Dhanush is planning to wear the director’s hat once again, this time with a period film. The movie will be set in the pre-independence era and he himself will be playing the lead role in it.

Sri Thenandal Films, who last produced Vijay’s industrial hit Mersal, is in talks to fund Dhanush’s upcoming movie. They are also backing director Sundar C’s magnum opus Sangamithra, a Rs 250 crore project. More details regarding the film is not yet known as it is still in the early stages.

Dhanush is currently shooting for the final schedule of Gautham Menon’s long pending Enai Noki Paayum Thotta (ENPT). He recently wrapped up his portions for Vetrimaran’s gangster trilogy Vada Chennai. ENPT will be his next release, slated to hit screens early next year.

Mohanlal has a jam-packed couple of years ahead of him. He currently has a handful of projects waiting in the pipeline. Some of these movies require months of shooting and demand a lot of physical efforts from the actor. But it seems like he is willing to endure all that. And if reports are to be believed, the actor has given his nod for yet another project.

Veteran director Shyamaprasad had recently pitched a script to Mohanlal and reports suggest that the actor has been highly impressed by it. Reportedly, they are planning to take the project forward and start shooting sometime in the next couple of years.

Shyamaprasad has been in the industry for nearly two decades now. Though he has worked with big stars like Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Irrfan Khan and Prithviraj, he is yet to make a movie with Mohanlal. The director has often expressed his wish to direct Mohanlal and it looks his long cherished dream is finally coming true.

Shyamaprasad is presently busy with the post-production works of his upcoming release Hey Jude. The movie stars Nivin Pauly and Trisha in the lead roles. Scripted by Nirmal Sahadev, Hey Jude is a musical romantic tale of two oddballs, played by Nivin and Trisha. It is gearing up for release early next year.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is prepping up to start shooting for the third schedule of Odiyan in January. After the completion of Odiyan, he will be teaming up with Ajoy Varma for a thriller film. By the end of May, Mohanlal will be joining the sets of Lucifer, which marks the directorial debut of young star Prithviraj

This coming season also promises to be no different as many big-ticket films are lined up for release.

Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Koottam (TSK) and Vikram’s Sketch are the two biggies that will be clashing in January. Both the movies are eagerly awaited by the audience as well as the industry insiders.

Thaana Serntha Koottam directed by Vignesh Shivan is loosely inspired from Akshay Kumar’s superhit movie Special 26. The promos have all been very promising and Anirudh’s songs have proved to be a big booster for the movie. The movie has a huge supporting cast that includes Keerthy Suresh, Ramya Krishnan, Kalaiarasan, Nandha, Sathyan, popular yesteryear comedian Senthil, Saranya Ponvannan, KS Ravikumar, RJ Balaji and Thambi Ramaiah among others. KE Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green is producing this movie.

Vikram’s Sketch is a typical mass entertainer written and directed by Vijay Chander of Vaalu fame. Tamannah Bhatia is paired opposite Vikram in this movie. Veteran actor Radha Ravi, Soori, Priyanka, Sriman, Ravi Kishan and RK Suresh are also part of the cast. SS Thaman is handling the music department and M Sukumar has taken care of the cinematography. Sketch is produced by Kalaipuli S Thaanu, who has funded movies like Kabali and Theri. Vikram has had no releases in 2017, so he will be looking forward to bounce back with a big hit.

The expectations for Odiyan is getting bigger with each passing day. Last day, the teaser unveiling Mohanlal’s young and fit avatar took the internet by storm. The teaser is still trending virally across all social media platforms. The superstar was under a strict diet regime for over 50 days to reduce his weight and it is reported that he has shed around 18 kgs for the movie. In a monumental career extending over four decades, this is the is the first time Mohanlal is taking such an effort and that itself speaks volumes about his hopes on the movie.

Odiyan is arguably one of the most anticipated movies in South India. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, Odiyan marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon. The movie deals with a very unique theme, which has rarely been experimented in Indian cinema.

It is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice it, who are called odiyans. Since the film has several fantasy and magical realism elements, it has a lot of prominence for VFX and the makers have brought on board one of the country’s best available teams to handle the same.

NY VFXWAALA, headed by Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn, is taking care of the VFX works in Odiyan. Last year, they won the National Award for Best Visual Effects for their outstanding work in Shivaay, starring and directed by Ajay Devgn. They have been in the field for over two decades and and have worked in over 200 films in Bollywood alone. Some of their noted works include Force, Bajirao Mastaani, Dangal etc.

NY VFXWAALA is also one of the many VFX teams that worked in SS Rajamouli’s visual spectacle Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. In South, they have worked in movies like Theri and Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai. Odiyan is a very ambitious film and it is supposed to be one the challenging works for the NY VFXWAALA team.

Odiyan’s story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal is playing the role of Manikyan, who is said to be the last living odiyan in the world. Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. He is a fabulous athelete who can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. The movie follows his life from his childhood to his 60s and hence Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks. He has now reduced his weight to play the younger part of Manikyan.

Odiyan has some other big names in the cast as well as the technical crew. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier will be seen in prominent roles in the movie. Narain, Kailash, Sana Alathaf, Innocent and Siddique are also part of the supporting cast.

India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein is choreographing the action sequences. Pulimurugan’s cinematographer Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and multiple National award winner Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran is composing the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame is in charge of the background score. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget venture.

As per reports, Ajith is finally coming out of his salt and pepper look for this movie. Apart from a brief portion in Gautham Menon’s Yennai Arindhaal, where he appears with the black hair, the actor has been sporting the same look for nearly six years now.

Ajith has been spotted with a black hair in a few functions recently. He has also maintained the trim and fit physique that he achieved for his last movie Vivegam, in which he played an international anti-terrorist squad agent. Ajith fans are very much excited to see their star in a young and robust look in Viswasam.

Viswasam marks Ajith’s fourth film with Siva after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam Siva himself has scripted this upcoming movie, pre-production works for which are currently progressing at a rapid pace. The makers have already finalized the technical crew but casting process is still on.

Anushka Shetty is the front runner for the female lead while the names of other cast members are yet to be announced. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director and Vetri will be cranking the camera. Ruben has been roped in to handle the edits. Sathya Jyothi Films, who funded Vivegam, is producing this upcoming venture as well. Shoot for the movie will be commencing in January and is slated for a grand Diwali release next year.
