Mohanlal’s fit new Odiyan look to be revealed on December 13!

Mohanlal has been on a break for nearly a month now to reduce weight for his upcoming movie, Odiyan. The actor has been training with a team of 25 people who monitor his diet and workouts. He has consciously stayed away from the media eyes to maintain utmost secrecy about his new look. Finally, it is time to see a toned Mohanlal as his latest look will be revealed on December 13.

This exciting bit of information was shared by the movie’s director Shrikumar Menon through his official social media handle. In his brief note, he has showered praise on the superstar for his dedication and hard work. He has written,

” Delighted to unleash the young, vibrant and dashing new Lalettan as Odiyan Manickan. The Lalettan, the world was waiting to see for so long. Salutations to the unparalleled spirit, dedication and hard work of the complete actor. God bless! ”

Odiyan is a fantasy film that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism. It is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice and people who practice it are called odiyans. There are a lot of stories and myths about odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore.

Mohanlal is playing the role of odiyan Manikyan, said to be the last living odiyan in the world. Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. The movie will follow his life from his childhood to his 60s and hence Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks. He is now shedding his weight to play the younger part of Manikyan.

Odiyan also stars Manju Warrier, Kailas, Narain, Siddique and Inncoent in prominent roles. This big budget movie is funded by Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas.

Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming movie Carbon is a very exciting one as it has some big names associated with it. The movie written and directed by Venu stars Fahadh and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. The first look poster was released today through the movie’s official Facebook page. It is a very intriguing poster and arguably one of the best to have come out in Malayalam cinema.

Carbon is said to be a realistic forest adventure thriller. Veteran cinematographer KU Mohanan, who has worked in movies like Don, Raees, Talaash etc is making his Malayalam debut with this film. Multiple national award winning director-composer Vishal Bhardwaj is handling the music department in the movie. Director Venu’s wife Beena Paul, who is also a National award winner, is handling the edits.

Carbon is set in the backdrop of forests. Fahadh is playing the role of Sibi, a rustic youth. Soubin Shahir, Sharafudheen, Manikandan Achari, Dileesh Pothan, Ashokan, Lena, Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Kochu Preman and Guppy fame Master Chetan Lal are also part of the supporting cast.

Carbon is being produced jointly by Sibi Thottapuram and Navis Xaviour under the banner of Poetry Film House. An official announcement about the movie’s release date is expected to be made very soon.

Vijay is currently one of the biggest superstars in South Indian cinema. He commands a massive fan following and his films are celebrated by millions across the world. But all this did not happen overnight. Though his father SA Chandrashekar launched him, Vijay has had his fair share of struggles in the industry. He had to face a lot of failures and humiliation before reaching this position. Starting his career as a second hero, he found his first real success nearly five years after making his debut.

Initially he was seen as a romantic hero with a guy next door image. After 2000s, he slowly transformed into a mass hero and established himself as a bankable commercial star with a string of blockbusters. Today, he enjoys a superstar status in the industry with his last release Mersal doing a worldwide business of over Rs 250 crores.

In a recent interview Vijay was asked about the changes in his acting career. He said, “Vikraman sir gave me my first break. My father made me a commercial hero but it was Fazil sir who provided the much needed the big changeover for me.”

Vijay has worked with the ace Malayalam filmmaker in a couple of Tamil films, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Kannukkul Nilavu. The former, which was the remake of super hit Malayalam movie Aniyathipravu, gave him a ‘romantic hero’ tag. The movie also won him his first Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.

Kannukkul Nilavu, released in 2000, was also a critical and commercial success. Both the movies had Vijay paired opposite Shalini. Their combination was a big hit during that time and Fazil was rightly credited for giving an image makeover for Vijay.

At a time when piracy is plaguing Tamil cinema miserably, the makers of Tamizh Padam 2.0 have announced the infamous Tamil Rockers as their official piracy partner. This upcoming movie is the sequel to 2010 sleeper hit Tamizh Padam starring Siva in the lead. CS Amuthan who helmed the first part is directing the sequel as well.

Tamizh Padam is one of the finest spoof films to have released in South Indian cinema. The movie’s big success has clearly inspired the makers to plan a sequel. Like the first part, Tamizh Padam 2.0 also has an unusual subject and follows a spoof pattern. Y Not Studios is funding this movie.

Last day, the movie was officially started with a customary switch on ceremony. The title poster which says, releasing in theatres on May 25 and releasing on Tamil Rockers the next day has already caught the attention.

Disha Pandey, who played the female lead in Tamizh Padam has been retained for the second part as well. Aishwarya Menon and comedy actor Sathish are also part of the cast. Unconfirmed reports also suggest Madhavan, Vijay Sethupathi and Siddharth to be playing cameo roles in the movie.

Director Mohan Raja’s latest film is getting ready up for a grand worldwide release this Christmas season. The movie starring Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in the lead roles is one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year. Last day, the movie was censored with a clean U certificate thereby ensuring a massive opening on December 22.

Bagging an U certificate comes as no big surprise as Velaikkaran is a socially relevant commercial entertainer, similar to the director’s previous film Thani Oruvan. While that film was about medical mafia, Velaikaaran deals with food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corrupt system. As per the director, it is a movie dedicated to the working class people.

Velaikkaran discusses some very serious issues and the makers are confident that it will be very much relatable to the audience. Sivakarthikeyan commands a big following among the Tamil cinema audience especially the families. So the movie is certain to have a good run at the TN box office.

Another major attraction of the film is Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil’s presence in an equally important role. Thanks to Fahadh, the movie has a good pre-release buzz in Kerala as well. Velaikkaran’s stellar star cast also includes Nayanthara, Sneha, Prakash Raj, RJ Balaji, Sathish, Rohini and many others. Anirudh Ravichander has done the music and his songs have already turned into chartbusters. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is funding this movie.

Veteran actor Prakash Raj was recently in Kerala for the opening ceremony of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). He is making his presence felt in Malayalam industry after a long gap. Earlier this year, he made his comeback by playing a prominent role in the multi-starrer Achayans. He is currently acting in Odiyan alongside superstar Mohanlal.

In a recent interview, Prakash Raj spoke high of the movie and Mohanlal. He said, “Odiyan is an interesting film with a lot of new elements in it. Almost 70% of the shoot is over and I’m now waiting for Mohanlal to join the team. He is very passionate about the film and is presently on a break to reduce his weight. The team is working hard and Lalettan will rock in it as usual.”

As per reports, Prakash Raj is playing a grey shaded character in the movie. The makers have kept utmost secrecy about the movie and its characters. Written by National award winner Harikrishnan, the movie marks the directorial debut of Shrikumar Menon.

Prithviraj is currently busy promoting his next release Vimaanam, slated to hit screens during the coming Christmas season. The movie directed by debutant Pradeep M Nair is inspired from a real life person who built an aircraft on his own. Prithviraj is also simultaneously working on Anjali Menon’s movie. In January he is expected to join the final schedule of his long pending film My Story, directed by Roshni Dinaker.

After the completion of My Story, Prithviraj will start shooting for ace filmmaker Blessy’s ambitious project Aadujeevitham. It is an epic film that is being planned to be shot over a period of two years. For the first schedule, director Blessy has asked Prithviraj to put on a few kilos. The actor himself revealed this in a recent interview to TOI.

He is quoted saying, “We will start shooting in February. For the first schedule of the movie, Blessy actually wants me to put on weight; I am trying to do that. After that, I will start work on Lucifer (his directorial debut) and after finishing it, I will resume with Aadujeevitham.”

Aadujeevitham is one of the most talked about projects in recent times. The movie is based on Benyamin’s award winning novel of the same name, which is about the life of an abused migrant worker in Saudi Arabia. It is being planned to be made simultaneously in Malayalam and Hindi.

Prithviraj will be undergoing drastic physical changes for Aadujeevitham. The protagonist Najeeb Mohammed undergoes lot of physical changes in the course of the movie. The makers have planned to shoot the movie in various schedules through the time span of which Prithviraj will be undergoing multiple physical transformations.

Last day the trailer of Megastar Mammootty’s Masterpiece was released to excellent response from the viewers. Within hours of releasing it online, the trailer went viral and fetched lakhs of views in YouTube. Mammootty’s ultra stylish look and his ‘mass’ screen presence was the highlight of the 1 minute 48 second trailer. Ajai Vasudev is helming this campus thriller scripted by Udhayakrishna.

Mammootty plays the role of Eddy aka Edward Livingston, an English professor in the movie. It is an extremely stylish character and it is said that Mammootty himself styled for his character in the movie. It was director Ajai Vasudev who revealed this in a recent interview. According to him, after listening to the script it was Mammootty who finalized the getup for Eddy’s character. The veteran star had also shed a few kilos to sport a leaner look in the movie.

Masterpiece is writer Udhayakrishna’s next after the all time blockbuster Pulimurugan, so expectations are bound to be on the higher side. The megastar’s fans are highly excited about the movie’s release. A record number of fans shows are being planned in centers across the state. So, a record opening is definitely on the cards for Masterpiece.

Gautham Menon meets with an accident; calls it a life altering experience!

Acclaimed filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon suffered minor injuries in a road accident on Thursday. The director’s car crashed with a tipper lorry when he was travelling to Mahabalipuram from Chennai. Fortunately, he escaped with minor injuries and is doing fine now.

Gautham Menon took to his Twitter space to express his gratitude to all the concern and wishes. He called the accident as a life altering experience and thanked an employee from HCL who helped him on spot.

Here’s what the director has tweeted,

“Humbled by the concern and the wishes. A life altering experience. I’m fine and waiting to start filming. Thank you, especially to Gopalkrishnan from HCL whose kindness last night to me reinstated my faith in people.”

Farah was recently in Chennai for a promotional purpose. In a recent interview, she was asked about her experience working in Tamil cinema.

Farah considers that some of her best works have come while working with directors South Indian directors like Mani Ratnam, Priyadarshan and Shankar. She was the worked with Mani Ratnam in Alaipayuthe and Shankar in Vijay’s Nanban.

When asked about working with Vijay, she said, “Vijay is an extremely talented and hardworking actor. I wish he comes to Bollywood and trains some of our younger actors about discipline. He is so respectful and I wish to do many more songs with him now that I know what he’s capable of.”
