Tovino Thomas to start shooting for Dhanush’s Maari 2 from January

Tovino Thomas is one of the busiest actors in M-Town currently. Apart from a handful of projects in Malayalam, the actor is also making his Tamil debut with BR Vijayalakshmi’s bilingual movie Abiyum Anuvum. Another big project in his kitty is the Dhansuh starrer Maari 2.

Tovino has been roped in to play the villain in this sequel for Dhanush’s 2015 film Maari. Balaji Mohan, who helmed the first part, will be directing the sequel as well. Premam fame Sai Pallavi is paired opposite Dhanush in the movie.

Shoot for the movie is scheduled to kick-start in January. Tovino is currently busy working on multiple projects. After the wrapping up the shoot of his ongoing Maradona, he will be joining the sets of newcomer TP Fellini’s Theevandi.

Signing Tovino as the villain for Maari 2 was a great move by the makers as the actor enjoys a good market in Kerala. Director Balaji Mohan had recently said that he enjoyed sketching the villain character and assured that Tovino’s combination scenes with Dhanush will be very interesting.

The villain role in the first part, played by playback singer Vijay Yesudas, was the movie’s weakest link. So, the director has taken extra care this time to place a strong antagonist opposite the powerful Maari.

Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films will be producing Maari 2. The makers have informed that the movie will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. Both the movies will be separately shot and released simultaneously.

The sequel is being planned to be made on a bigger scale than the first part with higher production values. With a star studded line up of actors, Maari 2 is expected to do some great business in the box office.

Mammootty’s Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Streetlights to have a Telugu version as well!

Megastar Mammootty’s Streetlights was expected to hit screens this month but was postponed at the last moment. The makers have decided to dub the movie in Telugu and that apparently is the reason for the postponement. Streetlights, which marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Shamdat, is a bilingual made simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam languages.

Mammootty’s own production house Playhouse Pictures is producing the movie in all three languages. The makers opted to dub the movie in Telugu as they felt that the subject discussed has a wider appeal. Streetlights is a crime thriller in which Mammootty plays the role of an investigating officer.

The recently released posters of the movie featured Mammootty in a stylish avatar. The megastar has pinned high hopes on the film. He decided to produce the film after being impressed with the screenplay. Newcomer Fawaz Muhammed has scripted the movie. The makers have maintained high secrecy about this film which has naturally piqued the curiosity among the audience.

Unlike most bilinguals, Streetlights was shot separately in both languages with different set of actors. The Malayalam verison stars Joy Mathew, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Neena Kurup, Lijomol Jose, Sohan Seenulal, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran among others.

Veteran actor Pandiarajan, his son Prithvi Rajan, Manobala, Black Pandi, Motta Rajendran and some other noted supporting actors feature in the Tamil version. The movie doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters.

Debutant Adarsh Abraham has composed the songs and Iyobinte Pusthakam fame Yakzan Pereira and Neha Nair are handling the background score and. Director Shamdat’s brother Sadat Sainudeen has cranked the camera.

The makers are planning to release the movie simultaneously in all three languages. An official word regarding the exact release date will be given only after the dubbing works for the Telugu version is completed.

Oru Bhayankara Kamukan: Lal Jose’s next with Dulquer Salmaan to start rolling next month!

Last year, director Lal Jose had announced that he will be working with young sensation Dulquer Salmaan for a movie scripted by Unni R. The movie titled as Oru Bhayankara Kamukan is said to be a rural based commercial entertainer. Shoot for the movie was supposed to start earlier this year but got postponed as both Dulquer and Lal Jose were busy with other commitments.

As per latest reports, this much talked about movie will finally go on floors next month. Dulquer will be seen as a ‘naadan’ guy in the movie. He will be seen in a lungi clad rustic guy-next-door character. Reportedly, the movie is set in a small town near a forest area. Dulquer will be playing a resident of that village. Shebin Backer will producing this movie. More details regarding the other cast and crew members is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Writer Unni R shares a good rapport with Dulquer as they have previously worked together in Amal Neerad’s Kullante Bharya and Charlie, for which both of them won the Kerala State award. We can expect Unni R to have sketched another solid character for Dulquer in Oru Bhayankara Kamukan. This is also the actor’s second film with Lal Jose after the 2014 superhit Vikramadithyan.

Oru Bhayankara Kamukan is the director’s next after the Mohanlal starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam. Releasing amid high expectations this Onam season, the movie could not live up to the high expectations and ended up as an average grosser.
