Thalapathy Vijay’s latest outing Mersal continues to do good business in the box office. Releasing on October 17 as a grand Diwali film, Mersal opened to extraordinary response from the audience. The movie soon began a record breaking spree at the box office worldwide. As per trade experts, Mersal has already gone past the magical Rs 200 crore mark.

After almost 20 days of its release, Mersal has now become the highest grossing Tamil movie in Kerala. The movie has stormed past the Rs 20 crore mark in the state. Leading trade analyst Kaushik confirmed it by tweeting,

UNSTOPPABLE MERSAL STREAK

Vijay’s popularity in Kerala is on par with the big Ms and that has reflected on Mersal’s earnings as well. On the opening day itself, Mersal earned a whopping Rs 6.11 from Kerala. This Vijay starrer is placed second only to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in the list of highest first day grossers in Kerala.

Mersal is a commercial mass entertainer in which Vijay plays a triple role as a village head, a doctor and a magician. It is a a regular revenge story that also lets out a very relevant social message about the medical facilities in our country. The movie caught nationwide attention after the ruling BJP demanded removal of scenes that allegedly criticized their schemes. BJP’s political pressure has not had any impact on the movie’s box office earnings but has only done a world of good as the audience thronged theaters in large numbers out of curiosity.

Director Atlee has jointly scripted the movie along with veteran KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan. The film also stars Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha and SJ Suryah in important roles. This biggie is funded by Thenandal Film Studios.

Actor/choreographer/filmmaker Prabhudeva, after a long stint in Bollywood is now busy with a handful of projects in South. He is making his directorial comeback in Tamil after a gap of six long years with Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja, an upcoming multistarrer. The movie stars popular Tamil actors Vishal and Karthi in the lead roles. Vanamagan fame Sayyeshaa Saigal is playing the female lead in this commercial entertainer.

Harris Jayaraj has been roped in to handle the music department. Harris and Prabhudeva recently visited London to record the songs for Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja. The movie was scripted by late writer-director K Subaash. It is being jointly funded by Prabhudeva and Isari Ganesh.

Expectations are high among the Tamil audience as multistarrers are a rarity in Kollywood. Fans are excited to watch two leading actors like Vishal and Karthi sharing screen space. Prabhudeva is also known for dishing out pucca commercial entertainers. He is someone who knows the pulse of the audience and the success of his films like Pokkiri, Wanted and Rowdy Rathore is a testimony to that.

Vishal’s last Tamil release Thupparivalan, directed by Mysskin, emerged as a superhit success. Karthi meanwhile is awaiting the release of his cop action flick Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, directed by Sathuranga Vettai fame Vinoth.

After Uncle, Joy Mathew to script a movie with Vineeth Sreenivasan in the lead

Vineeth Sreenivasan, of late has been concentrating more on his acting. He has already had two releases this year and has two other films in the pipeline. Now, the multi-talented Vineeth has signed for yet another film. Actor-turned-scenarist Joy Mathew is scripting and Thomas Sebastian will be directing this movie.

Joy Mathew’s debut film as a scenarist was Shutter, released in 2012. The movie was widely appreciated and was screened at several film festivals. It was later remade in all major Indian languages including Marathi, Tamil, Tulu, Telugu, Punjabi and Kannada.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s movie will be Joy Mathew’s third outing as a scriptwriter. His next is Uncle starring Mammootty in the lead. Shoot for the movie directed by debutant Gireesh Damodar was wrapped up recently.

Joy Mathew will now be focusing on Vineeth’s film, which has not yet been titled. All of his scripts, including Uncle, have been socially relevant ones. So his upcoming film with Vineeth Sreenivasan is also expected to be on similar lines.

Interestingly, director Thomas Sebastian’s recent outing Goodalochana had Vineeth’s brother Dhyan in the lead. The movie was released yesterday (November 3) and has been getting mixed reviews from the critics.

Vineeth’s next release will be Aana Alaralodalaral directed by debutant Dileep Menon. As the name suggests, an elephant is playing a major part in this movie. For this movie, Vineeth is sporting a new look for his character named Hashim Jamaluddin. Aana Alaralodalaral is slated to hit screens by the end of this year.

Nivin Pauly is a busy actor these days with multiple projects in his bag. The actor’s next release in Malayalam will be Hey Jude, directed by ace filmmaker Shyamaprasad. It is his third film with Nivin after working together in English: An Autumn in London and Ivide. Hey Jude marks the Malayalam debut of popular South Indian actress Trisha.

The first look poster of Hey Jude was released today. Both the lead actors, Trisha and Nivin, feature in the poster. As we had reported earlier, both the actors play oddballs in the movie. Nivin is playing Jude who is a peculiar character and is inconsistent with the world around him. Trisha’s character Crystal is also a similar person.

The movie explores the events that occur when two such people end up in a relationship. It will showcase how love and understanding transforms Jude’s life. Both the actors have pinned high expectations on the film, especially Trisha who is highly excited about playing a complex character like Crystal. Mukesh, Siddique, Prathap Pothen, Vijay Menon, Aju Varghese and Neena Kurup are also part of the supporting cast.

Hey is a musical romantic tale set against the backdrop of Mangalore, Goa and Kochi. Veteran composer Ouseppachan is handling the music department in the movie. Girish Gangadharan, who won rave reviews for his work in Angamaly Diaries, is cranking the camera.

The movie is being produced by Anil Kumar under the banner of Ambalakkara Global Films. It is expected to hit screens by the end of this year, most probably as a Christmas release.

Their last outing Vivegam, released in August this year, had high expectations but turned out to be a disappointment. As per latest reports, Yuvan Shankar Raja will be handling the music department in this upcoming movie. Yuvan is unarguably the favourite composer of Thala fans as he has given a number of hit songs and some terrific background score for the star. His works in Ajith starrers like Billa, Mankatha and Arrambam were much talked about. So when Yuvan join hands with Ajith once again, expectations among the fans are on the higher side.

Reportedly, Siva’s upcoming film with Ajith is being planned on a tight budget, unlike Vivegam which happened to be Ajith’s most expensive film till date. This yet-to-be-titled movie is expected to start rolling by January, next year. Sathya Jyothi Films, the makers of Vivegam are in talks for the production but an official announcement is yet to be made.

Interestingly, Thala 58 is eyeing a Diwali 2018 release. Vijay- AR Murugadoss, Suriya-Selvaraghavan film and superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala are also being planned for the festive season. The makers will definitely be aware of the impact that such a big clash will have on their box office earnings. So, a reschedule of release dates is certainly on cards.

Shruthy herself had let out the information about her marriage through her social media handle. The actress was last seen in Shanavas K Baavakutty’s critically acclaimed Kismath.

Kismath was a story about a Muslim boy who falls in love with a Hindu Dalit girl who is elder to him. Shane Nigam and Shruthy played the lead couple in the movie. Her performance along with Shane Nigam was widely appreciated by the critics as well as the common audience.

Shruthi has also acted in movies like Krithyam, Mulla, Elektra, and Apoorvaragam. She has also anchored several popular TV shows in Malayalam. Recently, she was involved in a controversy for a topless photoshoot for a bridal magazine. She reacted strongly against the detractors saying that she did the photoshoot with all consciousness.

Mohanlal’s latest outing Villain, directed by B Unnikrishnan continues to do good business inspite of the mixed reviews. The movie was released yesterday amidst tremendous hype on October 27. Fans and commoners who expected a stylish mass action thriller were disappointed with Villain as the movie is high on emotions and maintains an intense mood throughout.

Though the initial reviews were mixed, the movie slowly picked up thanks to the positive word of mouth and Mohanlal’s popularity among the masses. Apart from Mohanlal, Villain had a stellar star cast comprising of Manju Warrier, Vishal, Hansika Motwani, Srikanth and Raashi Khanna. The latter four were making their Malayalam debut with Villain and they could not have asked for anything better than a Mohanlal starrer to start off with.

Noted Telugu actor Allu Sirish, who made his M-Town debut earlier this year with Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders, thanked the superstar for introducing more Telugu actors to the Malayalam film industry. He tweeted,

Congrats @RaashiKhanna on the successful Malayalam debut with Villain. Thank our @Mohanlal sir for introducing many Telugu actors to Kerala.

Raashi Khanna had a meaty role in Villain as a police officer. She had a lengthy character with enough screen space. Her perfomance alongside an actor like Mohanlal was noted and is sure to grab her more offers in the Malayalam industry.

With no big films slated for release this month, Villain is expected to have a free run in the Kerala box office in the coming weeks. Rockline Venkatesh funded the movie under his banner Rockline Films.

Thalapathy Vijay is currently on a high after delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career with Mersal. The Diwali release is still doing good business across all the release centres. The movie had recently stormed past the Rs 200 crore mark and will surely end up as one of the all-time highest grossers of Tamil cinema.

Now that Mersal’s works are over, Vijay will be next moving to AR Murugadoss’s camp. This is their third outing together after the blockbuster success of Thuppakki and Kaththi. Pre-production works for the movie is currently progressing and the director is busy finalizing the cast and crew members.

Reportedly, Vijay will be sporting a new look for this upcoming movie. The actor has often been criticized for not experimenting with his looks and styling. But of late, he has been very conscious about this and has tried to sport different looks in his last few films like Theri and Mersal. Vijay’s ‘murukku meesa’ avatar as Thalapathy Veterimaran in the 80s portions in Mersal was a huge hit among his fans.

Hopefully, his new look for Murugadoss’ film will also please his scores of fans across the globe. Vijay is currently in the process of finalizing his look and trying out new styles. Expectations of this upcoming movie is massive thanks to ARM-Vijay successful track record.

This yet-to-be-titled movie is slated to go on floors by January or by the first week of February. AR Murugadoss has said that his upcoming film with Vijay will be an unusual project. According to the director, the movie will be high on emotions and will focus on showcasing Vijay as a performer. ARM assured that he will be showing the star in an all new dimension.

Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, known for his stellar works in films like Angamaly Diaries and Guppy, will be cranking the camera in Vijay 62. Earlier there were reports about Anirudh handling the music department but the latest buzz is that the makers are trying to rope in Vikram Vedha fame Sam CS to compose music.

Reportedly, Sun Pictures and Lyca Productions will be jointly funding this film. An official announcement with details about the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon.

Prithviraj has a long list of projects stacked in his kitty. Arguably the busiest actor in M Town, Prithviraj has signed for yet another film. He is teaming up with Pradeep M Nair,t the director of his upcoming Vimaanam for a new movie titled ‘Meter Gauge 1904’.

The actor took to his official social media handle to announce the project, which looks like another ambitious one. About the film, Prithviraj has written,

Entangled between history, fiction, love and the wonder that is human ingenuity..lies the story of Engineer Kuruvila, and how he made the impossible possible for love!

The first look poster features a train passing over a rail bridge amidst a forest like backdrop. A tiger and elephant is also seen in the poster. So, from the title and poster we presume that Meter Gauge 1904 is the story of engineer Kuruvila who probably works in the Indian Railways.

Prithviraj defines this movie as a long cherished dream that he shared with director Pradeep. He did not reveal when the movie when actually go on floors as it requires humongous amounts of research and preparations. And unlike the trend in Mollywood these days, Prithviraj does not wish to see the film known by its budget. More details regarding the film is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the much talked about Vimaanam is finally gearing up for release. The movie is inspired from the life of Saji Thomas, a speech and hearing person who who built an aircraft on his own. Prithviraj is playing the role of a deaf and mute person in the movie. Though it is inspired from Saji’s life, Vimaanam not exactly a biopic. Listin Stephen has produced the movie under his banner Magic Frames. An official word regarding the release date is still awaited.

Prithviraj is currently shooting for Anjali Menon’s upcoming movie also starring Nazriya Nazim and Parvathy. He had recently wrapped up shooting for debutant Nirmal Sahadev’s Ranam aka Detroit Crossing. The final schedule of Roshni Dinaker’s My Story, his directorial debut Lucifer and Blessy’s Aadujeevitham are some of his upcoming commitments.

Kamal Haasan’s ambitious film Vishwaroopam 2 was shelved for a long time before Kamal’s own production house Raajkamal Films International took over recently. When everyone thought that the remaining works would be wrapped up soon, Kamal, surprisingly, made his entry to television by hosting the Bigg Boss show. Recently, when Kamal and Shankar announced a sequel for Indian, there were doubts regarding the future of Vishwaroopam 2.

But according to latest reports, the project is very much on and is in the final stages of production. Music director Ghibran in a recent interaction with his followers in his social media space, revealed that they are planning to release the trailer very soon.

Kamal Haasan is celebrating his birthday on November 7 and his fans are hoping to catch a glimpse of this highly anticipated movie on the same day. Haasan is very optimistic about the movie as he had mentioned about how he enjoyed the making of V2 more than the first part.

Vishwaroopam, released in 2014, was a huge success both critically and commercially. Though the film faced several hurdles prior to it’s release, it emerged as a big blockbuster with a lifetime business of over 100 crores.

The Vishwaroopam series, written and directed by Kamal Haasan features him in the lead role of a hotshot RAW agent. Bollywood actor Rahul Bose, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar and Shekhar Kapur will be reprising their roles from the first part. The technical team of Vishwaroopam 2 has some Malayali presence in cinematographer Shamdat Sainudeen and editor Mahesh Narayanan.

Kamal Haasan also has the Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Sabash Naidu in the pipeline. It is a spin-off on one of his characters from Dasavatharam. Sabash Naidu is also stalled halfway due to some unknown reasons.
