Pranav Mohanlal pens song lyrics in Aadhi!

Earlier in the day, the first look poster of Pranav Mohanlal’s Aadhi was released. The movie marks his much awaited reentry to the industry, this time as a lead actor. Jeethu Joseph is directing this flick, which is touted to be an action packed entertainer.

Pranav is playing the role of an typical urban youth, who is into dance and music. Interestingly, Pranav has written lyrics for a song in this movie. Since he is playing an urban musician in the film, we presume that he might have written some English lyrics. So that’s one more reason for the fans to look forward to this movie.

Anil Johnson, a regular in Jeethu Joseph films, is handling the music department in Aadhi as well. The first look poster which was released today features Pranav performing a Parkour like stunt on a high rise building. As we had reported earlier, Parkour scenes will be one of the major highlights in Aadhi.

Parkour is a form of acrobatic physical training that involves crossing obstacles by running, climbing, jumping, rolling and swinging. Since Pranav used to do gymnastics, skydiving and rock climbing, he has a fluid and flexible body language that helps him to perfom the stunts authentically.

Prior to the shoot, he had undergone Parkour training in Bangkok for a few months as his character in the movie demands such traits. Some ultra-stylish action sequences in the movie have been choreographed by foreign stunt masters.

Aadhi has noted Telugu actor Jagpathi Babu playing the villain who played the menacing villain. Anusree, Alamara fame Aditi Ravi, Lena, Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar Sharafudheen, Tony Luke, Siddique and Nobi are part of the supporting cast.

Shoot for the movie is nearing completion with the final schedule progressing in Hyderabad.
Antony Perumbavoor is producing this movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. Reportedly, the makers are planning to release movie on Republic day, next year.

It’s a wrap for Mammootty’s Uncle!

After the widely acclaimed Shutter, actor Joy Mathew is scripting Uncle which stars Mammootty in the lead. Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and Padmakumar, is making his directorial debut with this movie. After working continuously for 42 days, the team finally wrapped up the shoot last day in Kozhikode.

Uncle is the story of a 17-year-old girl and her dad’s friend, whom she fondly calls uncle. It is about an unusual situation a family is made to face. Like Joy Mathew’s Shutter, the social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in this upcoming movie as well.

Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether in the movie. He is sporting a slat and pepper bearded look for this character, which offers him a lot of scope for performance. Karthika Muraleedharan, who made her debut earlier this year with Dulquer Salmaan’s Comrade In America (CIA), is playing a pivotal role in Uncle. The movie also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, Sheela and Muthumani in supporting roles.

Veteran Azhagappan is cranking the camera and Bijibal is handling the music department. Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films. The makers are planning to release the movie early next year.

Nivin Pauly-Nayanthara starrer Love Action Drama to go on floors early next year!

Earlier this year, actor Dhyan Sreenivasan had announced his maiden directorial venture. The movie titled as Love Action Drama has a dream pair of Nivin Pauly and Nayanathra in the lead roles. The announcement came as a big surprise and ever since then audience are waiting for more updates about the movie.

Dhyan Sreenivasan in a recent interview revealed that they are planning to start shoot by January end or the first week of February. Nivin is currently shooting for Kayamkulam Kochunni following which he will be joining Dhyan’s movie.

Love Action Drama (LAD) is reportedly a modern day take on the yesteryear hit film Vadakkunokkiyanthram, directed by Dhyan’s father Sreenivasan. The lead actors in this upcoming movie are also named as Dineshan and Shobha. Following the announcement of the title and character names, it was speculated that Dhyan’s debut movie will be a spoof film.

However, Dhyan, who has also scripted the movie, has clarified that Love Action Drama is a romantic comedy. Nivin Pauly’s character will have a few similarities to Thalathil Dineshan of Vadakkunokkiyanthram, but there will be no other semblance. The story of LAD is set in Chennai, so the characters will be speaking in both the languages.

Aju Varghese is also playing a prominent character in this movie. The actor is also venturing into production by funding this movie along with Vishak Subramaniam under the banner of Funtastic Films. Shaan Rahman will be handling the music department and Vivek Harshan has been roped in as the editor.

Kunjali Marakkar is the latest talk in M Town. Two of the biggest superstars of Malayalam cinema- Mohanlal and Mammootty are doing big budget period flicks based on Kunjali Marakkar’s eventful lives. While Mammootty’s film will be directed by Santhosh Sivan, Mohanlal’s version is to be helmed by Priyadarshan.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of the Zamorin in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during the era. Mohanlal’s movie is reportedly based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar 2.

Santhosh Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this film. The makers are planning the movie scale on a staggering budget of Rs 300 crores. It will be made as a multilingual in all major Indian languages. Apart from Mohanlal, some other big stars from industries across the country are likely to be part of this ambitious project.

Pre-production and research works for the movie are currently progressing. Some of the best available technicians are expected to be part of this movie. As of now, they are planning to go on floors by October next year.

Incidentally, Santhosh T Kuruvilla is collaborating with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan in two other projects before this one. He is producing Priyadarshan’s Nimir, which is the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram. Mohanlal’s upcoming thriller with Bollywood filmmaker Ajoy Varma is also backed by the same producer.

Mohanlal is currently on a break after a month long gruelling schedule of his upcoming movie Odiyan. He will soon be joining the sets of Ajoy Varma’s yet-to-be-titled thriller film. Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer and the 1000 crore mega project Mahabharata are some of Mohanlal’s other biggies in the pipeline.

Odiyan is the first Malayalam movie to be registered in the Writers Guild of America!

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is arguably one of the most anticipated movies in South India. The movie has an unique theme, which has rarely been experimented in Indian cinema. It is a fantasy film that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism. Odiyan marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon and is written by National award winner Harikrishnan. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget venture.

Interestingly, the makers have registered the movie’s story in the famous Writers Guild of America. Odiyan is most probably the first Malayalam movie to be registered there. With this, the makers have ensured that nobody copies the story without their permission as they will then be liable for legal proceedings.

The movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice it, who are called odiyan. There are a lot of stories and myths about Odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore. Mohanlal is playing the role of Odiyan Manikyan in the film, the last living Odiyan in the world.

Odiyan’s story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal’s Manikyan is a renowned Odiyan who lived in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Palakkad. The movie will follow his life from his childhood to his 60s.

Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. His character Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. He is a fabulous athlete who can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. To play the younger part of this character, Mohanlal is currently on a strict diet to shed around 15 kilos.

Odiyan has some big names, both in the cast as well as the technical side. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier will be seen in prominent roles in the movie. India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein is choreographing the action sequences in Odiyan. Veteran Pulimurugan cinematographer Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran is composing the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame has been roped in to handle the background score.

The movie’s final schedule is expected to commence next year once Mohanlal loses the extra pounds and gets in good shape. The makers are eyeing a massive summer release by the end of March.

Raju Murugan is well knwon for his films like Cuckoo and Joker, both of which are widely acclaimed. The latter won a National award last year for the best feature film in Tamil. This is the first time he is scripting for another director though he has penned dialogues in Thozha.

Besides Sarath Kumar, the movie also stars Rangaraj and Shwetha Tripathi are in lead roles. Selvakumar will be cranking the camera and Sean Roldan has been roped in to handle the music department. More details regarding the title and other cast members will be officially announced very soon.

Sarath has bagged his second Tamil movie even before the release of his debut film. That shows the kind of talent he is. He also has a couple of Malayalam films in his kitty. He is playing the lead role in Kottayam Nazeer’s maiden directorial and debutant Safeer Thailan’s Amala. Sarath will be next seen in a key role in Neeraj Madhav’s Paippinchuvattile Pranayam.

Soubin Shahir is currently on a high after the success of his debut directorial Parava. As per latest reports, the 34-year-old Soubin is all set to tie the nuptial knot. Reports are doing the rounds about Soubin getting engaged to Jamia Zaheer.

Reportedly, the engagement has already been solemnized in the presence of close family members. Pictures of the two exchanging rings were released recently a popular online media. Jamia has also shared a photo with Soubin in her Facebook handle. We are still waiting for an official word from Soubin.

Soubin entered the industry as an assistant director. He has assisted several filmmakers like Fazil, Siddique, Amal Neerad, Santhosh Sivan, Rafi Mecartin, P Sukumar etc. He started his acting career with Rajeev Ravi’s Annayum Rasoolum.

Soubin soon established himself as a much-in-demand supporting actor. With experience worth a decade, he finally made his directorial debut earlier this year with Parava. The movie starring Dulquer Salmaan, Shane Nigam and a host of newcomers garnered good response from the critics as well as the common audience.

As an actor, Soubin currently has multiple films lined up in his kitty. Mammootty’s Streetlights, Biju Menon’s Rosapoo and Manju Warrier’s Mohanlal are some of his films in the pipeline. Vijay’s latest outing Mersal continues to mint big bucks at the box office. The movie stormed screens worldwide on Diwali day and right away set the box office on fire. It soon went on a record breaking spree and has raked in over Rs 200 crores from collections earnings across the globe. Mersal is fast progressing to become one of the highest ever grossers in Tamil cinema.

Vijay hosted a big success party at his ECR residence in Chennai last day. The party was attended by almost all the technicians of Mersal. Director Atlee, composer AR Rahman, cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor Ruben, lyricist Vivek and art director T Muthuraj were all present for the party. A couple of photos taken in the party are trending virally in social medias.

Mersal marked the reunion of Vijay with director Atlee after the blockbuster success of last year’s Theri. Expectations were sky-high this time around and one can definitely say that Mersal lived up to all that. It is a commercial mass entertainer in which Vijay plays a triple role as a village head, a doctor and a magician.

The movie has a regular revenge story that also has a very relevant social message about the medical facilities in our country. Mersal caught nationwide attention after the ruling BJP demanded removal of scenes that allegedly criticised their schemes. BJP’s political pressure has not had any impact on the movie’s box office earnings but has only done a world of good as audience are thronging theaters in large numbers out of curiosity.

Director Atlee jointly scripted the movie along with veteran KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan. This big budget film is funded by Thenandal Film Studios.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s comeback movie in Tamil, Peranbu has been under the wraps for a long time now. The movie directed by National award winner Ram was supposed to hit screens earlier this year but kept delaying due to some unknown reasons. As per latest reports, the makers are planning to release the movie during the Pongal holidays in January next year.

Chiyaan Vikram’s Sketch and Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Koottam are also scheduled for the Pongal season. So Peranbu will have to compete with these biggies. This time it will be a tough battle in the Tamil Nadu box office. Vishal, fresh frok the success of Thypparivalan, is also expected to join the Pongal race with his upcoming movie Irumbu Thirai.

Ram’s Peranbu is being planned to be released as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Mammootty is returning back to Kollywood after a long gap and has pinned high hopes on this movie. Talks within the industry suggest that the actor has given a sterling performance that has the potential to sweep several top awards.

Interestingly, it was Mammootty who insisted that the movie should also be dubbed in Malayalam as he felt that the movie had an universal theme that will appeal to the Malayali audience as well. Peranbu was in the news when it was announced that transgender artist Anjali Ameer will be seen in a crucial role opposite Mammootty.

The movie also stars Anjali, Sarath Kumar, Kaniha and Suraj Venjaramoodu in pivotal characters. Thanga Meengal fame Baby Sadhana will be seen as Mammootty’s daughter in the movie. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music for Peranbu while National award winner Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits. The movie is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.
