Vikram Vedha fame Sam CS to handle background score in Mohanlal’s Odiyan!

Expectations have been soaring high about Odiyan ever since the project was announced with a high profile launch. This Mohanlal starrer is an exciting film to look forward to as it deals with a theme that has not been explored much, not just in Mollywood but in Indian cinema as well.

Directed by VA Shrikumar Menon, Odiyan is a film that is primarily about Odividya, a kind of back magic that was practiced in Kerala. There are lots of myths about Odividya and Odiyans in the Malayali folklore. National award winner Harikrishnan is scripting this movie, which is a fantasy kind with a mix of action, romance and magical realism.

This big budget movie has some big names, both in the cast as well as the technical side. Pulimurugan cinematographer Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and veteran Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits.

Composer Sam CS is the latest addition to the technical team of Odiyan. The talented musician is well known for his stellar work in this year’s superhit Tamil movie Vikram Vedha. Sam has been roped in to compose the background score in Odiyan.

Reportedly, the movie has much importance to music and Sam CS will certainly try to give his best. The story of Odiyan is set in three different timelines, so lot of ethnic and folk music will be there in the movie. Veteran M Jayachandran is in charge of composing the songs in Odiyan.

The movie will follow the life of Odiyan Manikyan, the protagonist played by Mohanlal. As Manikyan, he will be seen from the age of 30 to 65 in multiple looks. He is a fabulous athelete who can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. The superstar is currently on a strict diet to shed around 15 kilos to play the younger part of Manikyan.

Odiyan also stars Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj in prominent roles. Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget movie, which is eyeing a massive release by March next year.

Vijay’s Diwali release Mersal continues to do good business across all the release centres. The movie has had a tremendous run in the initial few weeks raking in over Rs 200 crores from the box office worldwide. Finally after crossing all the hurdles, the movie’s Telugu version Adirindhi has finally locked a release date.

Adirindhi is set to hit screens in the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana on November 9. This movie gives Vijay the chance to have his best ever box office run in Telugu states. The blockbuster success of Mersal and all the curiosity on it are big positives for the movie.

Vijay enjoys great popularity in the twin Telugu states and the presence of renowned actors like Sathyaraj, Nithya Menen, Samantha and Kajal Agarwal will surely grab the attention of the audience. Also, Baahubali’s writer Vijendra Prasad is associated with this Vijay film and hence it is expected to have a good opening.

With Mersal, Vijay has once again proved his box office power. The movie has shattered several pre-existing records and is fast progressing to become one of the highest ever grossers in Tamil cinema. Trade analysts report that the movie will definitely continue the good run in the coming days also.

Mersal caught nationwide attention after the ruling BJP demanded removal of scenes that allegedly criticised their schemes. BJP’s political pressure has not had any impact on the movie’s box office earnings but has only done a world of good as the audience are visiting theaters in large numbers out of curiosity.

This Atlee directorial is a commercial mass entertainer in which Vijay plays a triple role as a village head, a doctor and a magician. It is a a regular revenge story that also lets out a very relevant social message about the medical facilities in our country.

Director Atlee has jointly scripted the movie along with veteran KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan. This big budget film is funded by Thenandal Film Studios.

Director Mohan Raja’s Velaikkaran is an eagerly awaited movie, not just by Tamilians but by the Malayali audience as well. Fahadh Faasil is making his Tamil debut with this movie which also stars Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Like the director’s previous film Thani Oruvan, Velaikkaran is also a commercial entertainer with a socially relevant message in it.

After the superhit ‘Karuthavellam Kaleejam’, the latest single from Velaikkaran was released last day. While the first track was a local ‘kuthu’ number, this new one titled ‘Iraiva’ is an intense one about love and life. Composer Anirudh Ravichander and Jonita Gandhi have sung this beautiful track. This song was recently shot in Rajasthan with Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara featuring in it. The chemisty of this lead pair is something exciting to look forward to.

Anirudh has a wonderful track record with Sivakarthikeyan and naturally expectations are high for the Velaikkaran album. This is also the first time he is working with director Mohan Raja. The movie’s audio launch is likely to be held this month.

In Velaikkaran, Sivakarthikeyan is playing the role of Arivu and Fahadh’s character is named as Aadhi. The movie also stars Sneha, Prakash Raj, Vijay Vasanth, Thambi Ramiah, RJ Balaji, Rohini and Sathish in supporting roles. RD Raja’s 24AM Studios is producing this movie. It is slated to hit screens worldwide on December 22 as a grand Christmas release.

Ace filmmaker Gautham Menon is currently busy with the post production works of his much awaited spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram. Shoot for the Vikram starrer was wrapped up recently and the makers are eyeing to release it by April next year. A couple of promo teasers have already been released which has shot up the expectations among the audience.

Gautham Menon in a recent interview to a Tamil magazine has revealed that Dhruva Natchathiram will be a trilogy. He said, “The movie revolves around ten agents who work in disguise to protect and safeguard our nation. They are responsible for our national security and protect it from foreign forces. I’m planning to make it as a trilogy and release the film as a three-part franchise. Dhruva Natchathiram will hit the screens in April 2018, and the next two parts will be released in the coming years.”

Apparently, Gautham Menon has already started scripting for the final two parts of this spy-thriller series. The movie has an elaborate star cast which includes two female leads in Aishwarya Rajesh and Ritu Varma. Yesteryear actress Simran, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Divyadarshini, Vamsi Krishna, Vinayakan, Munna and many others are part of the cast.

The team travelled to seven different locations including Slovenia, Bulgaria, Austria, Turkey and Jordan to shoot for the movie.International stunt coordinators have choreographed some high octane action sequences in this big budget movie. It is being jointly funded by Gautham Menon’s own production house Ondraga Entertainment and Escape Artists Pictures.

The director has some big plans laid out for the next couple of years. His long pending Dhanush starrer Enai Noki Paayum Thotta still has 15 days of shoot left. The movie will be hitting screens three weeks after the release of Dhruva Natchathiram. After the completion of both these films, the director will start works for his highly ambitious multilingual film. Titled as Ondraga, the movie will have leading stars from all the four south Indian industries.

On Kerala Priravi Day, Malayali movie lovers woke up to some big news about two of their biggest superstars – Mohanlal and Mammootty. After years of speculation, August Cinema finally announced their period film Kunjali Marakkar with Mammootty in the lead. Ace cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santhosh Sivan will be directing this biggie which is being penned jointly by TP Rajeev and Shankar Ramakrishnan.

Following the announcement of Mammootty’s Kunjali Marakkar IV, came a big news from Mohanlal’s side. Veteran director Priyadarshan is also planning a similar big-ticket period film on Kunjali Marakkar. Though many dismissed it as rumors, the director confirmed about the project in a recent interview to TOI.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of the Zamorin in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during the era and it is still not known which one Mohanlal will be playing.

Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this big budget venture. In a recent public event, the producer has revealed that their version of Kunjali Marakkar starring Mohanlal will be one the most expensive films in Malayalam cinema. The makers are planning it as a multilingual in all major Indian languages.

Incidentally, Santhosh T Kuruvilla is collaborating with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan in two other projects before this one. He is producing Priyadarshan’s Nimir, which is the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram. Mohanlal’s upcoming thriller with Bollywood filmmaker Ajoy Varma is also backed by the same producer.

The superstar has a lot of big budget films lined up in his kitty. He is currently on a break from the shoot of Odiyan. The Shrikumar Menon directorial is a fantasy thriller that deals with unexplored themes of magical realism and black magic. Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer and the 1000 crore magnum opus Mahabharata are some of Mohanlal’s other biggies in the pipeline.

Gautham Menon is one of the very few filmmakers who works on multiple films at a time. He keeps juggling between his projects and sometimes shelves one in order to move on to another. After the completion of both these films, the director will start works for his highly ambitious multilingual film. This much anticipated multistarrer titled as Ondraga will have leading stars from all the four south Indian industries.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, Puneeth Rajkumar, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia have already been confirmed for the movie. The makers are also in talks with Simbu, Arjun Reddy fame Vijay Deverakonda and Sai Dharam Tej. The movie is about a trip four buddies go on when they meet at a friend’s wedding after many years. Reportedly, the film is set in the US, Gautham Menon’s favorite shooting location.

Though there were reports about the project being shelved, sources close to the director has confirmed that the movie is definitely on and will go on floors next year. The project was supposed to take off earlier this year but it had to be postponed due to date issues of its lead actors.

An official announcement is expected to be made once the director finalizes his cast and crew members.

Dulquer Salmaan is arguably the busiest Malayali actor currently. He has got several projects lined up, not just in Malayalam but in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi as well. If reports are to be believed, the young sensation has committed for yet another Malayalam movie.

Dulquer will be teaming up with veteran star Jayaram for a mass comedy entertainer. The duo of Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George are set to make their directorial debut with this multistarrer. They have previously scripted two superhit movies – Amar Akbar Anthony and Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan.

Like the duo’s earlier films, this upcoming movie starring Dulquer and Jayaram in the lead roles will also be a clean commercial entertainer. Vishnu and Bibin have jointly penned this yet-to-be-titled movie. This is the first time Dulquer and Jayaram will be sharing screen space with each other and It will be interesting to see how their on-screen chemistry works. More details regarding the other cast and crew members is expected to be officially announced very soon.

Dulquer recently finished shooting for Karwaan, his Hindi debut also starring Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar in major roles. He will soon be joining the sets of his new Tamil movie to be directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy.

Jayaram, on the other hand is currently shooting for actor Salim Kumar’s upcoming directorial Kaithozham K Kumarakanam. Ramesh Pisharody’s Panchavarna Thaththa and an untitled Kannan Thamarakkulam film are also in the pipeline.

Last day, director Vysakh through his Facebook page had announced about him starting a new production company with writer Udhayakrishna. He had also released the title poster of their maiden production venture. Saiju, a former associate of Vysakh will be directing this movie titled as Ira.

Unni Mukundan and Suresh Gopi’s son Gokul Suresh are playing the lead roles in the movie. This is their second outing together after sharing screen space in Mammootty’s Masterpiece. Gokul made an impressive debut last year with Mudhugauv, a full on fun entertainer. In Masterpiece, he will be seen as a college student while Unni Mukundan plays a police officer.

Miya George and C/o Saira Banu fame Niranja Babu will be seen as the female leads in Ira. Many noted supporting actors are also part of the cast. Newcomer Naveen John is scripting Ira, which comes with the tagline ‘story of an accused’.

The movie went on floors last day on the auspicious occasion of Kerala Piravi in Kollam. Sudheer Surendran is wielding the camera and Gopi Sunder will be handling the music department. It is being produced under the banner of Vysakh Udhayakrishna Productions.

Most actors these days wish to direct a movie someday. Actors like Sidharth Bharathan, Nadirshah, Vineeth Kumar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kalabhavan Shajon, Ramesh Pisharody and Dhyan Sreenivasan (the latter four have announced their films) are all into filmmaking. Noted actor-mimcry artist Kottayam Nazeer is the latest entrant to this list of actor-turned-filmmakers. His debut directorial has been titled as ‘Torch’ and the movie will star Angamaly Diaries fame Sarath Kumar in the lead role.
Sarath made his entry to the industry with a stellar performance as the villain ‘Appani Ravi’ in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries.

Post the success of Angamaly Diaries, Sarath has been bagging some big projects. After sharing screen space with Mohanlal in Velipadinte Pusthakam, Sarath is also making his entry to Kollywood by playing a crucial role in the sequel of Vishal starrer Sandakozhi, directed by Lingusamy. Debutant Safeer Thailan’s Amala and Neeraj Madhav’s Paippinchuvattile Pranayam are some of his other films in the pipeline.

An official announcement of Torch with details regarding the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon. Shoot for the movie is scheduled to commence by February next year.

Vijay, who is currently basking in the massive success of Mersal will soon be moving to his next project. The actor is teaming up with AR Murugadoss for the third time after Thuppakki and Kaththi. This upcoming movie is slated to go on floors by January, next year.

Director AR Murugadoss and his team is currently busy with the pre-production works. Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, known for his stellar works in films like Angamaly Diaries and Guppy, will be cranking the camera in Vijay 62.

Earlier there were reports about Anirudh handling the music department but as per latest reports, the makers are trying to rope in the highly talented Sam CS to compose music for this upcoming movie.

Sam CS is best known for his wonderful work in this year’s blockbuster film Vikram Vedha. His songs and background score won rave reviews from the critics as well as the common audience. Currently he is one of the most wanted composers in K-Town. With young technicians like Girish and Sam CS on board, Vijay 62 surely looks like a fresh attempt.

Vijay-Murugadoss duo’s previous outings, Kaththi and Thupakki, were huge blockbusters and both of them entered the elite 100 crore club of Kollywood. Naturally, their upcoming movie has high expectations among the audience.

In a recent interview, AR Murugadoss had revealed that the his upcoming film with Vijay will be an unusual project. According to the director, the movie will be high on emotions and will focus on showcasing Vijay as a performer. ARM assured that he will be showing the star in an all new dimension.

Sun Pictures and Lyca Productions will be jointly funding this film.An official announcement about the film with details about the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon.
