Chembarathipoo: Here is the first look poster of Askar Ali’s next!

Asif Ali’s brother Askar Ali made his debut earlier this year with Honey Bee 2.5. The movie was a new attempt in Malayalam cinema which was shot within the sets of Honey Bee 2: Celebrations, which had his brother Asif Ali in the lead role. Releasing in August, the movie got decent response from the audience.

Askar Ali will be next seen in Chembarathipoo, directed by debutant Arun Vaiga. The first look poster of the movie was released today evening. The poster features Askar Ali, Aju Varghese, and Aanandam fame Vishak Nair. Askar Ali with his guy next door look is seen sitting in the middle of two school girls. Aju Varghese looks funny wearing a school uniform.

Chembarathipoo is produced by Bhuvanendran and Sakaria jointly. Kolumittayi fame Santhosh Anima is cranking the camera for this movie. Raakesh A R is handling the music department.

Askar Ali has also signed for the movie ‘Kamuki’, which stars Aparna Balamurali as the female lead. Kamuki’s director Binu S is noted for his debut movie Ithihasa.

Tovino Thomas is going through a glorious phase in his career with some big projects lined up in his kitty. His last release Tharangam directed by Dominic Arun was a crime-comedy thriller film. He earned critical appreciation for his wonderful performance in the movie. His next release is Mayaanadhi with director Aashiq Abu, who is well know for his movies like Salt n pepper and 22 Female Kottayam.

The movie’s first look poster was released today evening through Tovino Thomas’ official Facebook page. Mayaanadhi is a romantic movie based on the story by ace director Amal Neerad. The poster itself looks so romantic with a beautiful bokeh background.

The movie is jointly scripted by Dileesh Nair and Shyam Pushkar. Nivin Pauly’s Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela fame Aishwarya Lekshmi is playing the female lead in the movie.

Even though the movie is a urban love story of a techie based in Kochi a major portion was shot in Madurai. Maayanadhi is jointly produced by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mill Cinemas and Santhosh T Kuruvilla Jayesh Mohan is handling the cinematography of the film and Rex Vijayan is handling the music department. Saiju Sreedharan is in charge of edits.

Karwaan: It’s a wrap for Dulquer Salmaan’s debut Hindi film!

Dulquer Salmaan had been shooting for his debut Hindi film Karwaan for sometime now. The movie marks the directorial debut of noted actor/theatre personality Akarsh Khurana. Irrfan Khan and internet sensation Mithila Palkar play the other lead roles alongside Dulquer. After shooting in picturesque locations in Ooty and Kerala, the makers finally wrapped it up last day.

Karwaan is a light hearted entertainer which traces the story of three friends who come from different walks of life. It is a slice of life kind movie with much prominence to realistic humour. The characters of Irrfan Khan, Mithila Palkar and Dulquer are from different walks of life who come together at one juncture of their lives.

Dulquer plays a Bangalore based guy in the movie. His character is a sweet yet serious kind of person. Abhishek Bachchan was initially approached for the movie but he opted out due to date issues. The director finally cast Dulquer after being impressed by his performance in films like Bangalore Days and Charlie. Interestingly, there is no romantic interest for Dulquer’s character in the movie.

Akarsh Khurana is noted for his scripts like Humshakals and Krrish 3. He has also co-written the script of Karwaan with Hussain Dalal, the dialogue writer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and 2 States. Ronnie Screwvala is funding this film. An official word about the movie’s release date is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Asif Ali’s Iblis will be a Jagga Jasoos like musical adventure-comedy film!

Its a good time to try experimental films in Mollywood. The audience nowadays are now more welcoming to such films. Asif Ali’s upcoming movie Iblis will be one such attempt. The movie is to directed by Rohit VS, whose debut film Adventures of Omanakuttan also had Asif in the lead.

Premam fame Madonna Sebastian has been paired opposite Asif in this upcoming movie. Like the director’s debut venture, this one is also a very unique attempt. It is a musical comedy on the lines of Jagga Jasoos. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer directed by Anurag Basu w released in July this year. Though it garnered critical acclaim, the movie tanked at the box office.

Sameer Abdul, the co-writer of Adventures of Omanakuttan has also penned Iblis. It is a musical adventure, something rarely attempted in the grounds of Malayalam cinema. The characters of this film will be extremely animated and are almost caricaturish in their emotions and body language.

Iblis will have four lead characters played by Asif Ali, Madonna Sebastian, Siddique and National award winning child actor Master Adish Praveen. The movie is being funded by Ichais productions. The makers are planning to start shoot by early next year.

Asif Ali is currently busy shooting for debutant Vijesh Vijay’s Mandaram, in which he will be seen sporting five different looks. Newcomer Mridul Nair’s fun entertainer B Tech is another film in the pipeline.

Vijay’s Mersal has hogged the headlines for over a week now. Releasing on October 17, the movie opened to extraordinary response from the audience. This Atlee directorial has already shattered several pre-existing records and is expected to continue the same in the coming weeks also.

Mersal’s phenomenal success comes amidst its own fair share of issues. The ruling BJP had demanded a removal of few scenes from the film alleging that the makers have mocked their schemes like digital India and GST. Doctors also called for boycotting Mersal as they claimed that their profession is shown in poor light in the film.

The issue soon caught nationwide attention as national channels started covering the issue. Opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi, P Chidambaram, Kabil Sibal and Sasi Tharoor came down heavily at BJP for trying to curtail the makers’ freedom of expression. Celebrities like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vishal, Aravind Swamy, Kushboo and many others voiced their support for Mersal team.

Vijay, who maintained a dignified silence all this while has finally come out with a statement. The letterhead in his press statement, reads the name as, ‘Joseph Vijay’, which is clearly aimed at BJP leader H Raja, who called him anti-Hindu.

The statement reads,

“Mersal, which released for the festival of Diwali, is running successfully in the theaters. Many oppositions have also cropped up for the film. But my film industry friends, colleagues, directors, the various cinema related associations, political leaders, party representatives, media friends, online friends, critics, my fans, commoners and everyone joined together and gave support to the entire team of Mersal.

My sincere thanks to all of you for making Mersal a big hit and for lending support to our team.

Mersal, meanwhile, is inching closer to the elite 200 crore club. If the movie manages it, he will be the first Tamil actor after superstar Rajinikanth to breach the mark. This big budget film is funded by Thenandal Film Studios.

It is already known that Vijay’s next film after Mersal is with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss. The director is currently busy with the final stages of scripting. As per latest reports, the highly talented Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan has been roped in to crank camera in this upcoming biggie.

Girish is known for his stellar works in films like Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Guppy, Kali, Angamaly Diaries and more recently in Solo (Rudra and Trilok portions). Last year, he won a special mention in the Kerala State Awarda for his brilliant work in the widely acclaimed movie, Guppy.

Vijay and Murugadoss are teaming up for the third time after the Kaththi and Thupakki. Both the films were huge blockbusters and entered the elite 100 crore club of Kollywood. Naturally, their upcoming movie has high expectations among the critics as well as the common audience.

In a recent interview, AR Murugadoss had revealed that the his next outing with Vijay will be an unusual project. The movie will be high on emotions and is focusing on showcasing Vijay as a performer. He assured that he will be showing the star in an all new dimension.

There are unconfirmed reports about Sun Pictures backing this film. Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander is rumoured be to composing for Vijay 62. His music was one of the major selling points in Vijay-ARM team’s last outing Kaththi. The makers planning to start shoot by January next year.

An official announcement about the film with details about the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon.

Vijay is once again proving his authority in the box office with the phenomenal success of his latest outing Mersal. The movie has shattered several pre-existing box office records and is fast progressing to become one of the highest ever grossers in Tamil cinema.

Mersal is now inching closer towards the Rs 200 crore mark. If it happens, Vijay will be the only Tamil actor after superstar Rajinikanth to enter the elite 200 crore club. Mersal stormed past the Rs 150 crore mark within a week of its release. Trade analysts report that the movie will definitely continue the same blockbuster run in the coming weeks also.

As per reports, Mersal has grossed around Rs 90 crores from the Tamil Nadu box office alone. Overall gross from the Indian market alone is reported to have gone well past the Rs 100 crore mark. Along with that the overseas gross is also estimated to be over Rs 50 crores. In several major markets of Tamil films such as Malaysia, Dubai and the US, Mersal is doing remarkable business.

The movie caught nationwide attention after the ruling BJP demanded removal of scenes that allegedly criticised their schemes. BJP’s political pressure has not had any impact on the movie’s box office earnings but has only done a world of good as the audience are visiting theaters in large numbers out of curiosity.

Mersal is a commercial mass entertainer in which Vijay plays a triple role as a village head, a doctor and a magician. It is a a regular revenge story that also lets out a very relevant social message about the medical facilities in our country. The film also stars Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha and SJ Suryah in important roles.

Director Atlee has jointly scripted the movie along with veteran KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan. This big budget film is funded by Thenandal Film Studios by Sri Thenandal Studios.

Popular actress Asin and husband Rahul Sharma have been blessed with a baby girl on Tuesday (October 25). Sharing the news to her followers, Asin, on her Instagram page, has released a statement which reads,

“We are ecstatic to announce the arrival of our angelic baby girl earlier today. The last nine months have been most special and exciting for the both of us and we would like to thank all our wellwishers and everyone who has been part of our journey for all their love and support.”

Asin got married to Rahul Sharma, the founder of mobile giant Micromax, in January last year. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who played a cupid for the pair, visited Asin today and a picture of him holding the newborn is trending virally in social medias.

Asin, a Malayali by birth, started her acting career with Sathyan Anthikad’s Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka. She soon forayed into other South Indian industries. Her performance in films like Ghajini, Pokkiri, M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi made her popular among the audience.

A three time Filmfare award winner, Asin is one of the very few actors to have dubbed in her own voice for all her films, irrespective of the language.

In 2008, AR Murugadoss launched her in Bollywood opposite Aamir Khan with the official remake of Ghajini. She then starred opposite other leading actors like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abishek Bachchan. Her last release was All Is Well in 2015.

Priyanka Chopra is one of the very few Indian actors who have won global recognition. Her debut film was Thamizhan in which she was paired opposite Ilayathalapathy Vijay. The pretty actress played Vijay’s romantic interest in the film. Interestingly, she also had lent her voice for the song ‘Ullathai Killathe’ along with Vijay in the movie.

Recently, in an interactive season with her followers in Twitter, Priyanka was asked about Vijay by one of the users. The actress replied that she is a great fan of the Tamil star and would love to work with him again. It would be really great if such a project happens anytime soon. Rajinikanth’s Kaala, unlike Kabali, will be a proper gangster movie!

Superstar Rajinikanth has two releases next year – 2.0 and Kaala. Both the films are in complete contrast to each other. While 2.0 is an ambitious sci-fi film, Kaala is a gangster flick based in the Mumbai underworld. The latter marks his reunion with director Pa Ranjith after Kabali, which got released in July last year.

Kabali was released amidst humongous expectations after the highly impressive teaser and other promos. ‘Rajinikanth playing a Malayasian don’ itself was enough to excite his scores of fans worldwide. While everyone expected a Baasha like gangster film, Kabali eventually turned out to be more of an emotional tale of a husband’s search for his long lost wife.

Though Kabali showcased the brilliant actor within Rajinikanth, that was not what his fans were looking forward to. They were disappointed in not seeing enough mass moments to celebrate the ‘star’ that Rajinikanth is. When news broke that Pa Ranjith is teaming up with the superstar again, many had apprehensions whether this one would also turn out like Kabali.

But the makers assure that Kaala, unlike Kabali is a proper gangster flick. Rajinikanth plays a don who heads the Tamil community in Dharavi. Kaala is about a guy from Tirunelveli, who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become a powerful don living in the slums.

The movie has a strong supporting cast which includes several noted North Indian actors. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth. Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar is playing a pivotal part in the film. Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Sayaji Shinde, Sakshi Agarwal, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Ramesh Thilak and Sampath Raj are also part of the movie.

Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush is producing Kaala under his banner Wunderbar Films. Most of the technical crew of Kabali have been retained for Kaala, with only Sreekar Prasad, the veteran, replacing Praveen KL as the editor. Pa Ranjith’s regular Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department.

The makers are planning to dub and release the movie in Hindi and Telugu as well. Kaala is scheduled to release on April 14 next year.
