Shoot has been progressing at a brisk pace and the makers are now filming the climax portions.

The climax portions alone is planned for nearly 30 days. Most of the scenes are being canned during the night time. Peter Hein had earlier said that Odiyan is very challening for him as he has not done anything of this kind form before. Last year, he won a National award for his stellar work in Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan. Naturally, the audience are eagerly looking forward to see how he choreographs the action sequences in Odiyan.

Scripted by national award winner Harikrishnan, Odiyan has a very unique theme, which has rarely been tried in Indian cinema. It is a fantasy film that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism. The movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice it, who are called Odiyan.

Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. He is a fabulous athelete who can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. The superstar will be taking a break after this month long climax schedule to shed around 15 kilos to play the younger part of Manikyan.

Odiyan also stars Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.

Producer reveals why Prithviraj’s big budget film Karnan was shelved

The massive success of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise showed the real potential of such films in the Indian market. Inspired by that filmmakers across the country announced similar spectacle-heavy epic films. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Karnan was the first such project to be announced from Malayalam film industry.

Prithviraj joined hands with his Ennu Ninte Moideen director RS Vimal for a mythological epic film based on the Mahabharatha character Karnan. The project was announced last year by Prithviraj himself. A launch ceremony was also held in Dubai. UAE based businessman Venu Kunnappilly was set to produce this big budget movie under his banner Kavya Films.

RS Vimal and his team had also started the pre-production works in Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. But after a while there was no information about this film. There were no further developments as speculations raised about the project being shelved. It was only recently that news broke about the producer opting out of the project.

Venu Kunnappilly’s Kavya Films is now backing Mammootty’s mega budget film Mamangam, which was announced officially on the eve of Diwali. In a recent Interview to a popular radio channel, the producer opened up on why he opted out of Karnan.

Contrary to reports about Karnan being made on a budget of Rs 300 crores, Venu Kunnappilly says that the film was conceived on a budget of 60-70 crores. On why he walked out of it, the producer said that they launched the film without proper preparations. The scripting and pre-production works kept delaying due to some reason or the other which further added to the already huge budget. This apparently made the producer to opt out of the project.

The future of Karnan is not yet known as both RS Vimal and Prithviraj have not talked about it for a while now. The actor is busy with multiple projects which will keep him busy for atleast a couple of years. Let’s hope they sort it out and find a new producer to back this much talked about project.

Mersal issue goes national as Rahul Gandhi tells PM Narendra Modi not to deomentise Tamil pride!

It seems like the BJP has stirred up a hornet’s nest as Vijay’s Mersal has now become the talk of the nation. The party has forced the makers of Mersal to remove certain scenes alleging that some of their schemes have been mocked in the film. This act of trying to suppress one’s freedom of expression has created a huge uproar, not just in Tamil Nadu.

The issue is being discussed widely across social medias and even in national channels. Several noted celebrities and politicians have come out in support of Vijay and the Mersal team. Kamal Haasan, Arvind Swamy, PC Sreeram, ex-Minister P Chidambaram, Dhananjayan, Nagma, Kushboo Sundar, RJ Balaji and many others have slammed the party for trying to force the makers of Mersal to remove scenes criticising their schemes.

National opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has now come out against the BJP’s attack against Mersal. In his tweet, he has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to ‘deomentise’ Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal. His tweet reads,

“Mr. Modi, Cinema is a deep expression of Tamil culture and language. Don’t try to demon-etise Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal”

Mersal, scripted jointly by Atlee, KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan, has an usual revenge story but comes with a very relevant social message about the importance of a proper health sector. The protagonist in the film fights for free medical facilities to all, regardless of their financial background.

In a particular scene in the film, the character played by Vijay compares the standards of health sector in India and Singapore. He says that despite charging only 7% GST, people there get free medical treatment. But in India where people are charged 28% GST, we don’t get any free treatment. There is another scene where Vadivelu mocks the digital India scheme and how people had to stand in long queues before the ATMs during the demonetisation period.

Tamil Nadu BJP leaders had demanded the scenes related to GST and Digital India in Mersal to be removed. After strong political pressure from all corners including central minister Pon Radhakrishnan, the makers of Mersal have reportedly agreed to remove these scenes.

All these issues have further popularized the movie among the public. It has come as a blessing in disguise for the makers as box office figures are only soaring high. The movie has crossed the 50 crore mark in TN alone in a record 3 days time. It is expected to storm into the elite 100 crore club, worldwide, either by today or tomorrow. Mersal is well on course to become one of the highest grossers in South Indian
