Mammootty’s Mamangam to be made on a budget of Rs 30 crores

It seems like Indian cinema and its audience is currently fascinated by epic films. The enormous success of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, critically and commercially, has shown that spectacle-heavy masala filmmaking has takers in our market. Inspired by Baahuabli’s success, many filmmakers across the country are planning to make epic historic films.

Malayalam cinema itself has three such projects in the initial stages- Prithviraj’s Karnan, Mohanlal’s The Mahabaratha and debutant Sidhil Subramanian’s Chengazhi Nambiar. Latest to the list is Mamangam with Mammootty in the lead. The project was officially announced last day by the megastar himself through his official Facebook page.

Mamangam will be Mammootty’s biggest project till date. The movie is planned to be made on a budget of Rs 30 crores. Hariharan-MT Vasudevan Nair team’s Pazhassi Raja, which was made on an approximate budget of Rs 24 crores, was Mammootty’s most expensive film till Mamankam was announced. This upcoming movie will be directed by debutant Sajeev Pillai.

Sajeev, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, has done extensive research works for over 12 years to script this movie. Mammootty will be seen in the role of a Chekavar in the movie. Besides him, the movie will also have some other popular actors from industries across the country. Internationally renowned technicians will also be associated in this movie’s making side. Venu Kunnampilly is producing the film under the banner of Kavya Films. The makers are planning to start shoot by mid 2018.

Mammootty has already proven his amazing ability to play historic roles. His classic performances in films like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja are a testimony to that. So, the audience are eagerly looking forward to watch the megastar in action once again.

Dileep’s Ramaleela leaked in internet; Makers take swift action to nab the culprits

Film industries across the globe are in a quest to find a permanent solution to put an end to piracy, the biggest menace they have been facing for years now. Several films have suffered heavy commercial losses due to this illegal practice of leaking new releases. When compared to other language films, only very few Malayalam movies have been hit by piracy thanks to the timely efforts taken by the makers as well as the authorities.

Unfortunately, the pirated copies of actor Dileep’s latest release Ramaleela has now been leaked in the internet. The makers with the help of cyber officials have already taken action to nab the culprits. Within hours of uploading the pirated version, hundreds of users have downloaded the movie from the Torrent websites. It is highly unfortunate that people, who belong to an educated society like Kerala, are opting to watch movies illegally.

Despite the piracy issue, Ramaleela continues to do terrific business across all the centres. Releasing on September 28, the movie opened to overwhelming response from the audience. It is fast progressing to become one of the all time highest grossers of Malayalam cinema. Such a phenomenal success is even more special considering all the issues amidst which the movie got released.

Ramaleela, directed by debutant Arun Gopy is a political thriller. Sachi has scripted this movie which features Dileep as Ramanunni, a public representative. Prayaga Martin has played the female lead. Senior actors like Raadhika Sarathkumar, Mukesh, Viayaraghavan, Kalabhavan Shajon and Suresh Krishna are also part of the supporting cast. Tomichan Mulakupadam has produced the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

Here’s the official teaser of Chiyaan Vikram’s Sketch!

As announced earlier, the makers of Chiyaan Vikram’s upcoming movie Sketch have released its official teaser. The teaser was unveiled today as a Diwali treat for the star’s fans. It is a power packed teaser with enough ‘mass’ moments to excite Vikram’s hardcore fan base. The actor looks handsome as ever in this new bearded avatar.

Sketch is written and directed by Vijay Chander of Vaalu fame. The movie promises to be an action packed mass entertainer. Tamannah Bhatia plays the female lead, marking her first film with Vikram.

Sketch is a regular commercial pot-boiler set in the locales of North Chennai. Veteran actor Radha Ravi, Soori, Priyanka, Sriman, Ravi Kishan and RK Suresh are also part of the cast. SS Thaman is handling the music department and M Sukumar has taken care of the cinematography.

Director Vijay Chander’s debut movie Vaalu with Simbu and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles, was a failure both critically and commercially. The director will be trying to make up for Vaalu’s debacle with this upcoming Vikram starrer.

Sketch is produced by Kalaipuli S Thaanu, who has funded movies like Kabali and Theri. The movie is slated to hit screens by the end of the year, during the Christmas holidays.

Anoop Menon, Unni Mukundan and Wamiqa Gabbi in Kannan Thamarakkulam’s next

Director Kannan Thamarakkulam’s last movie Achayans was commercially successful, though critics panned it heavily. The director is now prepping up to start his next movie, which like Achayans, is also a multistarrer. Unni Mukundan and Anoop Menon will be playing the lead roles in the movie.

This upcoming movie is scripted by Dinesh Pallath, who was also the writer of Kannan Thamarakkulam’s first two films – Thinkal Muthal Velli Vere and Aadupuliyattam. It is said to be an action packed thriller movie.

Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi has been roped in to play the female lead. Wamiqa made an impressive debut earlier this year with Basil Joseph’s Godha, in which she played the role of a wrestler. Her power packed performance in the movie won her appreciation from all corners. Reportedly, Wamiqa Gabbi was brought on baord for Kannan’s movie as the character offers ample scope for performance. Wamiqa is also simultaneously working in a Tamil movie, Iravaakaalam also starring SJ Suryah and Sshivada.

Unni Mukundan on the other hand has two big releases coming up. He is playing a crucial role in Anushka Shetty’s multilingual movie Bhagmati. He is also part of Megastar Mammootty’s upcoming movie Masterpiece. Unni will be seen as a police officer in this Ajai Vasudev directorial, which is scheduled as a Christmas release.

Kannan Thamarakulam will start shooting for his movie once his lead actors are free from their respective commitments.

Veteran director Joshiy to team up with Mohanlal once again

Mohanlal, just like his counterpart Mammootty, also seems to be on a signing spree. He already has around 4 projects in the pipeline and we now hear that he has committed for another one. Veteran filmmaker Joshiy will be teaming up with Mohanlal once again, this time for a family entertainer. Udhayakrishna, who gave Mohanlal the record breaking Pulimurugan, is scripting this upcoming movie.

Joshiy and Mohanlal have previously collaborated for several movies. They have worked together in some memorable blockbusters like No 20 Madras Mail, Naran, Twenty 20, Christian Brothers etc. However, the duo’s last two outings – Lokpal and Laila O Lala ended up as huge failures.

Joshiy has been on a rough patch for sometime now. So, the director will be trying to get back to form with this upcoming Mohanlal starrer. Udayakrishna is currently working on Mammootty’s Masterpiece, directed by Ajai Vasudev. This action packed mass entertainer is scheduled as a Christmas release. The scriptwriter will start working on the Mohanlal movie only after that.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is currently busy shooting for VA Shrikumar Menon’s Odiyan in Palakkad. After its completion, he will be joining the sets of Ajoy Varma’s thriller film, slated to go on floors in December. The superstar has also committed for a multilingual mass entertainer with ace filmmaker Priyadarshan. Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer is scheduled to start by the month of May. So, it is not yet clear when Mohanlal will start shooting for his film with Joshiy.

Mammootty’s big budget movie Maamankam instead of Prithviraj’s Karnan!

Mammootty’s big budget movie Maamankam instead of Prithviraj’s Karnan!

We had recently reported about Mammootty starring in an epic historic film based on the Maamaankam. Last day, Mammootty himself announced the project officially through his social media handle. The movie titled as ‘Maamaankam’ is his biggest till date and will be directed by debutant Sajeev Pillai.

Sajeev, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, has done extensive research works for over 12 years to script this movie. Apart from Mammootty, the movie will also have some other leading actors from industries across the country. Internationally renowned technicians will also be associated with this movie’s making. Venu Kunnampilly is producing the film under the banner of Kavya Films.

Incidentally, the same producer was set to produce Prithviraj’s epic-mythological film Karnan, based on the popular Mahabharatha character. RS Vimal, who made an impressive debut with Ennu Ninte Moideen, was said to be directing Karnan. The team worked on the movie’s pre-production for a few months in the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. But now its been a while since anyone has heard about this much hyped project.

Karnan was conceived on a huge scale and needed a whopping budget of Rs 300 crores for its making. Talks within the industry suggest that the makers have shelved the project due to budget constraints. Karnan’s lead actor Prithviraj has also been on a signing spree committing for multiple projects. It is also conspicuous that the generally outspoken actor has refrained from mentioning about Karnan in all of his recent interviews.

Reportedly, the project has been shelved and as of now, Kavya Films will be investing on Mammootty’s Maamaankam. This upcoming project is planned on a comparatively smaller scale with a budget close to Rs 30 crores. The makers are planning to start shoot by mid 2018.

Mersal release issue: Vijay meets Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palanisamy

Mersal release issue: Vijay meets Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palanisamy

Just like how it has been for all other Vijay films, Mersal has also been caught in legal issues just two days before the release. The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) did not grant an NOC to the movie after they found that real birds and snakes were used for shoot while the makers had claimed it to be done by CG. The CBFC is also yet to certify the movie though there were false reports about the movie being given an U/A certificate.

In the wake of all these issues, actor Vijay met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy last day in his residence. While a section of medias reported that Vijay had visited the CM to the clear the issues surrounding Mersal, reports also suggest that the actor paid a visit to thank the State Government for the reduction of entertainment tax by two per cent.

After watching Mersal today afternoon, the AWBI officials have granted the NOC, which is mandatory for getting the censor certificate. Censoring is the only hurdle ahead of Mersal and it is expected to be cleared by today itself.

Such issues have always plagued the release of Vijay’s films. During the release of Thuppakki in 2012, Muslim groups had protested against the movie after they alleged that the makers have hurt their religious sentiments. Vijay, then, had to meet the CM to resolve the issue. Similarly many such issues have risen up during the release of Thalaivaa, Kaththi and Puli.

Trade analysts and industry experts strongly believe that Mersal will overcome all these issues and emerge as a blockbuster. The movie has a great pre-release buzz with advance bookings on in full swing. It is Vijay’s career hype film and is also getting ready as his biggest release till date.

Leading production house Thenandal Studios Limited is backing this high profile project, which incidentally is also their 100th venture. They are planning to release the movie in a never before seen scale worldwide. As per the makers, the movie will be released in over 3300 screens worldwide.
