Nazriya Nazim likely to play one of the female leads in Dulquer Salmaan’s next Tamil movie

The hot and happening Dulquer Salmaan has committed for a couple of Tamil movies, slated for release next year. Both the movies are directed by newcomers – Desingh Periyasamy and Ra Karthik. The latter’s film is a romantic travelogue in which Dulquer will be seen in multiple looks.

Reportedly, the movie has four female leads and the makers are on the look for suitable actresses to share screen space with Dulquer. Shalini Pandey, noted for her impressive performance in the sensational Telugu hit film Arjun Reddy, has already been confirmed for Dulquer’s movie.

As per reports, the makers have also approached Nazriya Nazim for one of the lead roles. The actress is yet to officially sign for the project but the makers are hopeful of getting her on board. Nazriya and Dulquer share great rapport on and off screen. They have worked together in Salala Mobiles, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum/Samsaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram and Bangalore Days.

Nazriya Nazim is said to be making her comeback with the upcoming Anjali Menon which also stars Prithviraj and Parvathy. The pretty actress enjoys great popularity among the Tamil audience so it will be interesting to see if she takes up the Dulquer Salmaan movie. Apart from Nazriya, Parvathy, Nivetha Pethuraj and Megha Akash are some of the another names that have been doing the rounds for the female leads. An official announcement is expected to be made very soon.

Young filmmaker Ra Karthik is quite famous in the short films circuit and has bagged some awards as well. His upcoming movie with Dulquer is a romantic travelogue with commercial elements. According to the director, it will be a feel good movie that will appeal to audience of all age groups. Majority of the portions of this upcoming movie is set in North India. The team is currently busy scouting for suitable locations. It be shot across the country in locations like Chennai, Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Nainital.

George C Williams, noted for his works in movies like Theri, Kaththi and Raja Rani has been roped in as the DOP. National award winner Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits. Music department will be handled by debutant Dheena Dhayalan. This yet-to-be-titled movie is being produced by Kenanya Films. The makers are planning to start shooting from December.

Last day social medias were abuzz with talks about Kamal Haasan walking out of the much hyped Indian 2. The movie, to be directed by Shankar, was only recently launched during the finale of Kamal hosted Bigg Boss show. Rumours had it that producer Dil Raju was unhappy with the huge remuneration quoted by Kamal and Shankar, which forced the former to opt out of the project.

As soon as talks about Kamal’s exit surfaced online, talks were on about Suriya replacing him. Soon, Indian 2 started trending in Twitter and other social media platforms. Fans were also excited about Suriya teaming up with Shankar for the first time. But much to their disappointment, the PRO of producer Dil Raju and sources close to Shankar have rubbished these reports as plain rumours.

Indian 2 is the sequel to Shankar-Kamal duo’s 1996 classic hit Indian. The movie, a vigilante crime thriller film featured Kamal Haasan in a dual role. Indian went on to win three National Film Awards including the best actor award for Kamal Haasan’s outstanding performance. It was also India’s official submission for the Academy Award for best foreign language film that year.

As per trustworthy reports, Indian 2 will go on floors only after Shankar and Kamal are free from their respective commitments. The former is busy with the final stages of production of his magnum opus 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. Kamal meanwhile will be trying to wrap up the remaining portions of his shelved projects, Sabaash Naidu and Vishwaroopam 2.

Reportedly, the pre-production works of Indian 2 will kick-start from February, next year. It is being planned as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual and will also be dubbed and released in all major Indian languages. Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations is funding this highly ambitious project.

Prithviraj’s Vimaanam is a much talked about project. The movie was in the news even before the shoot started. The makers of Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Aby and Vimaanam were in a legal tussle over the rights of the story. Both the movies are loosely inspired from the life of Saji Thomas, a speech and hearing person who who built an aircraft on his own.

Shoot for Vimaanam was recently completed and the movie is now getting ready for release. According to latest reports, Vimaanam is slated to hit screens on November 10. The release date, however, is yet to be announced officially by the makers.

Vimaanam is directed by debutant Pradeep M Nair. Prithviraj is playing the role of a deaf and mute person in the movie. He plays different life stages of the protagonist, who is a high school dropout. Since the film traverses through different stages, the actor had to sport distinct looks. Prithviraj, known for his dedication, had shed around 10 kilos for essaying this highly challenging role.

Though Vimaanam is inspired from the Saji’s life, it is not exactly a biopic. It also has a beautiful romantic track and Durga Krishna is playing the female lead. The movie has a strong supporting cast which includes actors like Nedumudi Venu, Lena, Aanandam fame Anarkali Marikkar, Praveena, Sudheer Karamana, Saiju Kurup, Shanthi Krishna Alencier Ley Lopez, P Balachandran and Sudheer Karamana among others.

Vimaanam is produced by Listin Stephen under the banner of Magic Frames.

Maheshinte Prathikaram Tamil remake: Nimir will be Priyadarshan’s most visually beautiful movie!

It is already known that Priyadarshan is remaking the superhit Malayalam movie Maheshinte Prathikaram in Tamil. Udhayinidhi Stalin is playing the lead role in this movie titled as Nimir. Malayali actresses Namitha Pramod and Parvatii Nair will be seen as the two female leads.

Remaking a successful movie is always a big challenge as comparisons are bound to happen. It is not a cakewalk to adapt a particular story for another set of audience, whose tastes are different. However, Priyadarshan is used to remaking films. He has time and again proved his ability to remake movies without losing the essence of the original version.

Latest reports about Nimir suggests that Priyadarshan has taken extra efforts to present the story very authentically to the Tamil audience. In a recent interview, actress Parvatii Nair said that Nimir has to be the most visually beautiful film that the ace filmmaker has ever shot. He has put in a lot of work to make every frame a treat for the eye.

Apparently, Priyadarshan was very particular about the looks and costumes of each character. While the original version had a Christian setting, the lead characters in Nimir have a Hindu background. The entire movie has been shot in a single schedule in the picturesque backdrop of Tenkasi.

Maheshinte Prathikaram, directed by Dileesh Pothan and starring Fahadh Faasil in the titular role was a huge success, both critically and commercially. It went on to win numerous accolades including a couple of National Awards last year.

Priyadarshan has slightly tweaked the original script by giving more prominence to humour so as to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Actor Samuthirakani is penning the dialogues and he is also playing the villain role in the movie.

Priyadarshan has retained most of his technicians from Oppam for this upcoming movie also. NK Ekambaram is wielding the camera and MS Ayyappan Nair is handling the edits. Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this movie, which is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

Superstar Rajinikanth has been shooting his upcoming movie Kaala for sometime now. This gangster flick is directed by Pa Ranjth, marking his second consecutive film with the superstar after last year’s Kabali. Reportedly, Rajinikanth wrapped up his portions for Kaala recently in Mumbai. The superstar has now joined the sets of Shankar’s 2.0 for the final song shoot.

Kaala is about a guy from Tirunelveli, who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become a powerful don living in the slums of Dharavi. Rajinikanth is playing the titular role in the movie. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth.

The movie has a strong supporting cast which includes several renowned Hindi actors. Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar is playing a pivotal part in the film. He will be seen in the role of a cunning politician who works against the interest of Tamils in Mumbai, who are headed by Rajinikanth’s Kaala. Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Sayaji Shinde, Sakshi Agarwal, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Ramesh Thilak and Sampath Raj are also part of the supporting cast.

Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush is producing Kaala under his banner Wunderbar Films. Most of the technical crew of Kabali were retained for Kaala, with only Sreekar Prasad, the veteran, replacing Praveen KL as the editor. Pa Ranjith’s regular Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department.

The makers are planning to dub and released the movie in Hindi and Telugu as well. Kaala is scheduled to release on April 14 next year.

We were among the first to report about the hit combo of Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran teaming up again. After the success of Maheshinte Prathikaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, they are reuniting for a new movie titled as Kumbalangi Nights. Shane Nigam, one of the most promising actors around is likely to play the lead in this movie.

Shane is now an audience favorite after his terrific performances in films like Kismath, C/O Saira Banu and the more recent Parava. Riding on the success of these films, he has signed for several new projects. B Ajithkumar’s Eeda, Shaji N Karun’s Oolu, Devan’s Painkil and debutant Dimel’s Perunnal are some of his upcoming movies.

It will be interesting to see how Dileesh Pothan utilizes the amazing actor in Shane Nigam. The actor-turned-filmmaker’s first two films won him widespread acclaim. Maheshinte Prathikaram, his debut directorial, won a couple of National awards including the award for the year’s best Malayalam movie.

His second outing Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, released in June this year, has already been rated as one of the best films of the past decade or so. The Fahadh Faasil starer has also been selected to screen in various international film festivals including IFFK.

There is still no information about the genre or the other cast & crew members of Kumbalangi Nights. But the Malayali cinephiles are already excited about the film and are hoping to see a typical Dileesh Pothan style realistic film. The director is currently busy with his acting commitments. An official announcement regarding Kumbalangi Nights is expected to be made in the coming days.

We are hardly a week away from the release of Vijay’s Mersal. Probably the most awaited movie of the year, Mersal is all set to storm screens worldwide on October 18. This Atlee directorial is special for more than one reason. Apart from the Vijay factor, movie has a terrific team which includes AR Rahman, Vijayendra Prasad and a host of other renowned actors.

Vijay is said to be playing a triple role in Mersal, which is a first in his two decade long career. He is playing an 80’s village head, a doctor and a magician in the movie. From the promos itself we can make out that the magic portions in Mersal will be highly fascinating. Vijay is seen in his stylish best for this particular role, which is shot mostly in Europe.

In a recent media interaction, director Atlee was all praise for Vijay’s dedication to play the magician’s role. Vijay was professionally trained by three renowned experts – Gogo Requeim, Dani Belev and Raman Sharma. The actor has done around 12 stunning tricks in the film and none of them were shot with the help of VFX.

Producer Hema Rukmani also heaped praise on Vijay’s performance in the film. Vijay learnt the tricks in a few hours which, the experts say, would normally take a few months to perfect. She is quoted saying, “He would keep practicing it before shoot and during the final take, he adds something that makes it even better. The tiniest gestures and modulations he adds are so good to watch.”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Agarwal and Nithya Menen play the three female leads in Mersal. Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan have helmed the movie’s screenwriting along with Atlee. This big budget movie is being funded by Sri Thenandal Films.

The Mohanlal-Tomichan Mulakupadam story is a strange one. The latter, an UAE based businessman, started his journey as a film producer by funding Mohanlal’s Flash, which was released back in 2007. The Sibi Malayil directorial was a colossal failure in the box office. Exactly nine years after that the duo joined hands once again for a big budget venture, Pulimurugan. What happened after that is part of Mollywood’s history books.

Pulimurugan broke all pre-existing records of a Malayalam movie. It emerged as the first and the only Malayalam movie till date to enter the prestigious 100 crore club. The movie was a wake up call for all those who believed that big budget movies are not commercially viable in Malayalam film industry. With the enormous success of Pulimurugan, Mulakupadam Films established themselves as the leading banner in industry.

If reports are to be believed, Tomichan and Mohanlal are planning to come together once again for another biggie. Veteran filmmaker Joshiy will be helming this project and Pulimurugan’s writer Udhayakrishna is behind the script. There are rumours about this project being titled as Wayandan Thamban, but it is yet to be confirmed. Joshiy’s last few outings have all been failures, so the director will be looking forward to get back to winning ways with this Mohanlal starer.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is busy shooting for VA Shrikumar Menon’s Odiyan in Palakkad. After its completion, he will be joining the sets of Ajoy Varma’s thriller film in December. He has also committed for a multilingual mass entertainer with Priyadarshan, which is planned to go on floors early next year. Prithviraj’s Lucifer is scheduled to start by the month of May. So it is not yet clear when Mohanlal will start working on his film with Joshiy.

The superstar’s next release is Villain, a crime thriller directed by B Unnikrishnan. The movie is slated to hit screens on the 27th of this month.

Sidharth Anand has previously directed films like Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Anjaana Anjaani, Bachna Ae Haseeno etc. He has previously worked with Hrithik Roshan in the 2014 action film Bang, which was the official remake of Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day. Sidharth is currently working with Tiger Shroff on the Indian version of cult film Rambo.

Sidharth has proven his ability to helm high octane action films. So, lets hope he lives up to the massive expectations that has risen after the coming together of Hrithik and Tiger. The action thriller is expected to go on floors in April 2018 and is slated as a Republic Day release in 2019.

Glad that my father’s eventful life is being made into a movie: Vijayaraghavan on NN Pillai’s biopic

Recently, on Nivin Pauly’s birthday, it was announced that the actor would be teaming up with Rajeev Ravi for a biopic on NN Pillai’s life. NN Pillai is widely regarded as one of Kerala’s greatest theater artistes of all time. He was also a freedom fighter in Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA). Rajeev Ravi’s biopic will showcase his life as a young soldier and his days as a drama artist.

NN Pillai is also famous among the Malayali movie lovers for his spectacular Performance as the patriarch Anjooran in Siddique-Lal’s cult classic Godfather. His son Vijayaraghavan is also a well known actor in the industry. The latter is actually delighted that a movie is being made on his father’s eventful life.

In a recent interview to a daily, Vijayaraghavan opened up about his father’s early days. NN Pillai went to Malaysia and joined the INA when he was 19 years old. He returned to Kerala in 1945 only to return back to Malaysia with his family within a year. He stayed there for three and a half years before coming back and settling in Kerala.

The upcoming biopic is based on NN Pillai’s autobiography Njaan. The book chronicles all major events that happened in his life till Vijayaraghavan was born. Iyobinte Pusthakam fame Gopan Chidamabram is scripting this movie, which will reflect the history of Kerala and the role of Keralites in INA.

E4 Entertainment is producing this big budget movie. Ace cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan has been roped in to crank the camera. More details regarding the other cast and crew members is expected to be announced in the coming days. The makers are planning to start shoot by early next year.
