Arun Vijay to play the lead in Gautham Menon’s next

Director Gautham Menon is currently busy wrapping up the shoot of his highly anticipated Vikram starrer Dhruva Natchathiram. Final leg of shoot for this spy-thriller is progressing in Turkey, which is expected to last for a month. The movie is slated to hit screens by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, certain trustworthy reports suggest that Gautham Menon has roped in actor Arun Vijay to play the lead in his next movie. Incidentally, this will be Arun Vijay’s 25th movie and the actor has been training hard for it. He had recently posted photos and videos of him undergoing rigorous training sessions to acheive a lookwise transformation for this movie.

Arun Vijay’s terrific performance in Gautham Menon’s Yennai Arindhaal (YA) proved to be a game changer for the actor. Post YA, Arun Vijay was signed for some big ticket films in Telugu and Kannada. His last release was Kuttram 23, a cop thriller, which emerged as a big commercial success. He is presently shooting for Baahubali star Prabhas’ Saaho, in which he is playing a prominent part. When Arun Vijay returns back to his favourite director Gautham Menon, expectations are surely on the higher side.

The director, meanwhile is yet to complete works for his long delayed Enai Noki Paayum Thotta, which stars Dhanush and newbie Megha Akash as the leads. Almost 90% of the shoot has been completed and they are expected to wrap it up as soon as Gautham Menon is free from Dhruva Natchathiram.

Dulquer Salmaan is probably the most busiest Malayali actor currently. He has a long list of projects lined up in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and now in Hindi. He is currently busy shooting for his debut Hindi movie Karwaan with Irrfan Khan and debutante Mithila Palkar. As we had reported earlier, Dulquer is expected to start shooting for his next Tamil film by the end of this year.

Desingh Periyasamy, a noted short filmmaker will be making his debut with this movie. Reportedly, South Indian beauty Ritu Varma has been roped in to pair opposite Dulquer in this yet to be titled movie. Ritu Varma became hugely popular after her performance in the widely acclaimed movie. Pelli Choopulu. She is also playing one of the female leads in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s upcoming film Dhruva Natchathiram, which has Chiyaan Vikram in the lead.

Dulquer’s movie with Desingh Periyasamy is touted to be a romantic film, which also has a few elements of a thriller. Dulquer plays Sidharth aka Sid, a happy go lucky chap with a cool attitude – in short a role tailor made for DQ. The actor known for his penchant for trying different looks, will be sporting a new look in this movie.

Unlike Dulquer’s previous Tamil films, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum and OK Kanmani, this upcoming movie will have some stylish heroic elements. K M Bhaskar will be cranking the camera for this movie, planned to be shot across Chennai, Goa and Delhi.

Prakash Raj joins Odiyan team in Palakkad

After wrapping up the first schedule of Odiyan in Varanasi, the team recently commenced the second leg of shoot in Palakkad. The movie which marks the directorial debut of noted ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon is being made as one of the most expensive Malayalam movies ever. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, Odiyan is a fantasy film which explores the theme of magical realism.

Odiyan, apart from Mohanlal also stars Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj in prominent roles. Prakash Raj recently joined the team in Palakkad. He will be sharing screen space with Mohanlal after a gap of twenty long years. Their last film together was Iruvar, directed by Mani Ratnam. For their performances in the movie, Prakash Raj won the National award for best supporting actor while Mohanlal missed a well deserved award by a whisker.

Prakash Raj is reportedly playing ths antagonist in Odiyan and according to the makers, his role will be one of the most powerful villain characters that has taken shape so far in the industry. Mohanlal is essaying the role of Odiyan Manikyan and he will be seen from the age of 30 to 65 in multiple looks. The first look poster of the movie had Mohanlal in a clean shaven look with a lot trimmer physique. It is learnt that the veteran star will be training hard to achieve a similar look.

Peter Hein, who choreographed the amazing stunts in Pulimurugan, has been roped in to train Mohanlal. The movie also stars Manju Warrier and

There has been a whole lot of speculations about the cast of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s next. It is said to be a multistarrer and several leading actors’ have been rumoured to be part of it. Jyothika and Kakka Muttai fame Aishwarya Rajesh have already been confirmed to play the female leads. Aditi Rao Hydari, who was the heroine in the director’s last movie Kaatru Veliyidai, has also been approached for the movie.

Latest development in the camp is that Simbu has been officially signed for the movie. This comes as a huge news for Simbu fans as his career has been sinking with continuous failures both in the personal and professional front. He could not have asked anything better than a Mani Ratnam movie to stabilize his career. Earlier also there were rumours about the immensely talented Simbu doing a movie with Mani Ratnam, but nothing materialized.

Besides Simbu, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi and Nani are also said to be playing major roles in the movie. Apparently, the movie has four main protagonists and Simbu will be playing the lead in one of them. He will be hoping that the movie turns out to be much needed game changer in his career.

This upcoming movie is said to be a thriller and as per Aishwarya Rajesh, it will be completely different from Mani Ratnam’s earlier films. The director has managed to pull a huge casting coup of sorts for this movie even though an official confirmation is still awaited from his side. It was already confirmed that Santhosh Sivan will be cranking the camera and AR Rahman will be composing the music for this movie.

Syam Pushkaran is easily one of the most talented screen writers in Malayalam film industry right now. He is one of the torchbearers of the resurgence of ‘realistic’ style of movies that Malayalam cinema has been known for. He has co-written some noted movies like Salt n Pepper, Da Thadiya, 22 Female Kottayam, 5 Sundarikal, Idukki Gold, Iyobinte Pusthakam and Rani Padmini. Last year, he won the Kerala State and National award for his screenplay of the widely acclaimed movie Maheshinte Prathikaram.

Syam is having some exciting plans for the future. As reported by us earlier, he is gearing up to turn a filmmaker soon. In a recent interview, Syam revealed that he has locked a script and revealed that a superstar will be playing the lead role. Like Maheshinte Prathikaram, the story and characters of his debut directorial are all based on what he has seen in his hometown Thuravoor in Alappuzha. He is planning to start shooting for the movie by next year.

Besides that, Syam is also planning to start a production company with his friend/filmmaker Dileesh Pothan. In the interview, Syam also added that the audience can expect movies that will completely utilize the acting potential of Mohanlal.

Syam is currently co- scripting director Aashiq Abu’s next along with Dileesh Nair. The movie, titled as Mayaanadhi stars Tovino Thomas and Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela fame Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles.

Isha Talwar replaces Mamta Mohandas in Prithviraj’s next!

Prithviraj is currently in the US shooting for his upcoming movie Detroit Crossing aka Ranam. Days after the movie has gone on floors, the movie has got a major change. Mamta Mohandas who was supposed to play the female lead has now been replaced by Isha Talwar.

Detroit Crossing was initially scheduled to go on floors during the May-June months but it got pushed due to some unknown reasons. Mamta Mohandas could not accommodate her dates as she got busy with the shoot of Fahadh Faasil’s Carbon, directed by Venu.

Detroit Crossing, directed by debutant Nirmal Sahadev is about the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan. Prithviraj plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie, which is inspired by some real life incidents.

Prithviraj will be portraying a grey shaded role in the movie. Isha Talwar will be seen in an equally important role. Her’s is a very a strong and mature character that also has several shades and layers. She was last seen in Malayalam in an extended cameo role in Dileep’s 2 Countries, released last year.

Detroit Crossing aka Ranam falls under the category of a dark neo-noir thriller, perhaps the first such Malayalam movie. Noted Tamil actors like Ashwin Kumar and Sampath Raj are also part of the cast. The team will be shooting for nearly 50 days in US. Ranam has most of its crew members from overseas.

Cinematography is being handled by Lukasz Pruchnik, who previously worked in Fahadh Faasil’s Monsoon Mangoes. Dhuruvangal 16 fame Jakes Bejoy has been roped in to handle the music department. The movie is being produced by Anand Kumar Payyanur under the banner of Yes Cinema Company.

Suriya has been through a rough patch over the last few years. He is now being more selective and trying to take up movies that offer him scope for performance. His next release is Thaana Serntha Koottam, directed by Vignesh Shivan. Besides that he has committed for two other projects, with Selvaraghavan and Irudhi Suttru fame Sudha Kongara.

Selvaraghavan is busy scripting the movie, which he calls his dream project. In a recent Twitter interaction with his followers, he said that he has never enjoyed scripting a movie like this before. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Suriya will be producing his next with Sudha. It is still not clear which of the two films will go on floors first.

Apparently, Suriya was highly impressed by Sudha’s script and has decided to produce it under his own banner 2D Entertainment. Sam CS, who made an outstanding debut with Vikram Vedha has been roped in as the composer for this movie. An official announcement regarding the project is expected to be made very soon.

Sudha Kongara, an erstwhile associate of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, won widespread appreciation for her movie Irudhi Suttru, released last year. The movie starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh in the lead roles was a bilingual made in Tamil and Hindi (Saala Khadoos). It was a huge commercial success and also won several awards at the 64th National Film Awards. Sudha also remade the movie in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh reprising Madhavan’s role. She has proved her ability as a filmmaker with Irudhi Suttru and naturally expectations are high for her movie with Suriya.

Meanwhile, Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Koottam is nearing completion and is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

Ever since it was announced that Bejoy Nambiar is making a bilingual movie with Dulquer Salmaan, expectations have been soaring high. The movie boasts of a huge star cast that includes actors from across the country. With the release of every teaser and song, anticipation levels have been going high.

Solo is an anthology in which Dulquer Salmaan plays four different characters. Recently the makers had revealed that the movie is anthology on Lord Siva’s characters. Siva is known for his extreme emotions and this movie has on love and rage as its premise.

Solo is a multi genre film that revolves around the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water. Dulquer plays four roles — Siva, Rudra, Shekhar and Trilok— all the four characters, in a way, represent Lord Shiva.

Dulquer’s four different characters are connected to the four elements. Bejoy Nambiar, who has also scripted the film, has woven these elements into four stories. It is a mix-genre attempt and the movie has an unique treatment.

Since Solo is made as a bilingual, the movie has a plethora of actors from several industries. Dino Morea, Ann Augustine, Arti Venkatesh, Kabali fame Sai Dhansika, Deepti Sati, Marathi actress Sai Tamhankar, Sruthi Hariharan, Govind P Menon, Sheelu Abraham, Manoj K Jayan, Prakash Belawadi, Bengali filmmaker Quashiq Mukherjee, Sathish, Soubin Shahir, John Vijay and many others are part of the cast.

Music for the movie is composed by 11 different composers which includes several leading bands as well. Girish Gangadharan, Sejal Shah and Madhu Neelakandan have cranked the camera for the movie.

Abraham Mathew has produced the Malayalam version under the banner of Abaam Movies. Tamil version is jointly funded by Anil Jain and Bejoy Nambiar. The movie is slated to hit screens in September this year.

The suicide of Tamil Nadu teenager Anitha after she failed to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) triggered widespread protests across Tamil Nadu. Anitha was a medical aspirant who hailed from a poor family in Ariyalur district. After securing 1176 marks out of 1200 in the 12th standard exams in the Tamil Nadu State Board examinations, the 17-year-old Anitha could manage to secure only 86 marks in the NEET exam, which was not enough to get her a medical seat.

The newly introduced NEET system has come under a lot of criticism from several parts of the country especially in Tamil Nadu. Students in TN have strictly opposed NEET as they claim that they are unable to afford the coaching classes, which was the case for Anitha as well whose father is a daily wages labourer.

Dulquer Salmaan unveils the teaser of Manju Warrier’s Udhaharanam Sujatha

Udhaharanam Sujatha is Manju Warrier’s upcoming movie, directed by debutant Phantom Praveen. Shoot for the movie was wrapped up few months back and is now gearing up for release. The movie’s official teaser was released today by Dulquer Salmaan.

The teaser showcases the day to day life of Sujatha, played by Manju Warrier. She plays the role of a widow who has a 15 year old daughter. The actress is seen without any makeup in the movie. Sujatha is someone who does odd jobs to raise her daughter.

Mamta Mohandas is also playing a pivotal role. She is seen as the district Collector in the teaser. Her character has great prominence in the plot. Reportedly, some of the events in the film are based on real-life IAS officers and incidents.

Martin Prakkat and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame Naveen Bhaskar have jointly scripted this film, which explores the struggles of a single mother in upbringing her teenage daughter. Newcomer Anaswara is playing the role of Manju’s daughter in this film. Nedumudi Venu, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhi Koppa and Joju George are also part of the cast.

Senior cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan has cranked the camera and Mahesh Narayanan, who recently made his directorial debut with the widely acclaimed Take Off, is editing the movie. Gopi Sunder is handling the music department.

Udhaharanam Sujatha is being funded by The Scene, a new production house owned by noted director Martin Prakkat and actor Joju George.
