Shraddha Kapoor starts training for Saina Nehwal biopic

Of late Bollywood has seen a lot of biopics, most of them on sporting icons. Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Azhar and even Dangal was inspired by real life sportspersons. Now, works for another sports based biopic has started.

Shraddha Kapoor is playing the lead in the biopic based on ace shuttler Saina Nehwal’s life. The actress was recently seen training with Saina and national coach Pullela Gopichand.

Saina recently took to social media to upload an image where she along with Gopichand, are seen posing for a picture after training Shraddha for the movie.

Saina Nehwal’s Twitter post reads,

“Today’s badminton practice session … Gopi sir , @ShraddhaKapoor and me ??#Biopic”

Earlier Shraddha expressed her happiness in being part of Saina’s biopic. She is quoted saying, “Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who’s not just been the world’s No. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon. I can’t wait to start prepping for my role.”

Saina also expressed her excitement in Shraddha playing her character in the biopic.

“It’s great if Shraddha plays me because she is a very talented actress and very hardworking. I am sure she will do justice to the role. The best part is, she is a good friend as well. So it will be easier to teach her some badminton skills. A lot of people did tell me that we do look similar and I think that’s a huge compliment, because Shraddha is very good looking.”

The movie titled as Saina is to be directed by Gupte. Bhushan Kumar of T-series is producing this movie. Shooting for the biopic is expected to kick-start by the end of 2017.

Khal Drogo of Game Of Thrones was the initial choice for Bhallaladeva: Rana Daggubati

Rana Daggubati is an household name all over India courtesy the massive success of the Baahubali series. The impact that his character Bhallala Deva had in the viewers’ mind was huge and made him popular all acorss the nation. Rana fitted the bill perfectly for the gigantic and masculine Bhallala Deva who locked horns with the equally towering Baahuabli, played by Prabhas. But not many know that Rana was not the initial choice to play Bhallala Deva’s role.

Rana Daggubati himself revealed this in a recent interview to TOI. The makers initially wanted to cast Jason Momoa, who is famous for his role of Khal Drogo in the Game of Thrones series. Rana is quoted saying,

”It just sounded so nice that I was supposed to play the role Khal Drogo was to play. I told the film’s producer Shobhu Yarlaggada, ‘I ‘m Khal Drogo’s replacement. That’s a cool start. Let’s do it’.”

Rana worked for nearly five years for the Baahubali franchise. In between that he also acted in a few other films. He made a mark for himself in Tamil and Hindi with movies like Bangalore Natkal, Baby and The Ghazi Attack. Rana’s last release was Nene Raju Nene Mantri, a political thriller directed by Teja. The movie emerged as a commercial success with critics unanimously praising Rana’s perfomance in a grey shaded role.

Prithviraj’s My Story has been in the making for a while now. The movie was shot in multiple schedules in Portugal and Kochi. My Story marks the directorial debut of Roshni Dinaker and it is scripted by noted actor/scenarist Shankar Ramakrishnan. The Ennu Ninte Moideen pair of Prithviraj and Parvathy are reuniting for this romantic entertainer.

The motion poster of My Story was unveiled today through Prithviraj’s official Facebook page. The poster features the lead actors Prithviraj and Parvathy with a beautiful background score composed by Shaan Rahman.

Prithviraj plays Jai and Parvathy plays Tara in this romantic movie shot majorly in Portugal and other European countries. Hollywood actor Roger Narayan is reportedly playing the antagonist in this movie. He has earlier acted in movies like The Man Who Knew Infinity and more recently the Kannada movie U-Turn starring Shraddha Srinath.

Dudley has cranked the camera and Shaan Rahman is handling the music department in My Story. The movie is being produced by director Roshni Dinaker and OV Dinaker under the banner of Roshni Dinaker Productions. Official word regarding the release date is expected to be announced very soon.

Mammootty to play a stylish cop in Abrahaminte Santhathikal

Recently, Mammootty celebrated his 66th birthday and as a treat for his fans, his new project was announced. The megastar will be playing the lead in a thriller titled Abrahaminte Santhathikal – A Police Story. The movie is to be directed by Shaji Padoor, a veteran who has been in the industry for over two decades as an associate director. Haneef Adeni, the director of Mammootty’s blockbuster movie The Great Father is scripting this upcoming movie.

According to certain reports, Mammootty will be seen as an extremely stylish police officer in the movie. Though he has done cop acts in several movies in the past, this one will be very different from the ones he has done so far. It will be a complete entertainer that can be enjoyed by both his fans and the family audiences of Kerala.

Mammootty was last seen as a police officer in Kasaba directed by Nithin Renji Panicker. His character Rajan Zachariah, was not the usual ‘filmy’ honest and diplomatic cop, but one with a tinge of misogyny and grey shades. Mammootty has played several police characters in his career like the iconic Balram from Avanazhi and Perumal from August 1. Some of the other films where he donned the khakis are Yavanika, Kariyila Kaatu Pole, Rakshasarajavu, Roudram etc.

Incidentally, Mammootty is playing a police officer in another upcoming movie of his titled as Streetlights. This investigative thriller marks the directorial debut of noted cinematographer Shamdat Sainudeen. Streetlights is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal will go on floors in January next year. The movie will be shot extensively in Ernakulam. More details regarding the cast and other crew members is expected to be announced very soon.

Grand audio launch for 2.0 in Dubai with live performance by AR Rahman!

2.0, the much awaited sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, is nearing it’s completion. The movie, directed by Shankar also marks the South Indian debut of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. British beauty Amy Jackson is playing the female lead in this sci-fi thriller. Shoot has already been completed and the team is currently focussing on the post production works.

Lyca Productions is investing a mammoth budget of Rs 450 crores, which is the highest for any Indian film currently under production. The makers have now announced that the movie’s audio lauch will be held on October 27 in Dubai. It will be a grand affair and composer AR Rahman will be performing live in the event. The teaser will be released in November and trailer in December.

2.0 is perhaps the most anticipated Indian movie in recent years. True to the hype, the movie has been doing some massive pre-release business. It has already earned over Rs 100 crores from the satellite rights across all languages. Satellite rights of 2.0 were sold for Rs. 110 crore to Zee Television for 15 years time. Reportedly, the makers are also in talks with Amazon Prime and Netflix for the film’s digital rights.

Inspired by the success of Dangal and Baahubali 2, the makers of 2.0 are also planning to release the movie in 15 languages. The movie will be dubbed into all major foreign languages, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

Promotion works have already kick-started with the makers afloating hot air balloons adorned with life size images of superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar over the Hollywood signage in Los Angeles. The balloons will travel over San Francisco, London, Dubai, Australian, European and a few South East Asian countries.

Shankar has written the movie along with noted writer Jeyamohan. British beauty Amy Jackson is playing the female lead in this sci-fi thriller. Akshay Kumar is essaying the antagonist’s role and will be seen as a crazy doctor in the movie. Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey, Malayali actor Kalabhavan Shajon and Riyaz Khan are also part of the cast.

2.0 was initially scheduled to hit screens in October this year, but it was later postponed to next January citing post-production reasons.

Vineeth Sreenivasan has taken a break from direction and is currently focussing on his acting. After Aby and Oru Cinemakkaran, the multi-talented Vineeth will be next seen in Aana Alaralodalara, a movie that mostly comprises of newcomers in the technical crew.

Vineeth is sporting a new look for his character named Hashim Jamaluddin. He looks like a Muslim young man in his moustache less bearded avatar. As the name suggests, an elephant is playing a major part in this movie. Anu Sithara is has been roped in as the female lead.

Aana Alaralodalaral is said to be a village based social satire. The movie, scripted by newbie Sarath Balan also stars Vijayaraghavan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Harish Perady, Mamukkoya and Aanandam fame Vishak Nair in supporting characters.

Director Dileep Menon was a former assistant of G Prajith in Oru Vadakkan Selfie. Incidentally, Vineeth Sreenivasan had scripted and also starred in Oru Vadakkan Selfie. Newcomer Deepu S Unni will be cranking the camera and Shaan Rahman is handling the music department.

Aana Alaralodalaral is being produced jointly by Siby Thottupuram and Navis Xaviour under the banner of Poetry Film House.

Wow!! Villain’s trailer storms past 5 million views

The official trailer of Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Villain was released on September 1 as an Onam gift for the Malayali audience. The trailer was received to overwhelming response from the viewers. Within no time, it started trending across social media platforms. Now, within a week of it’s release, the trailer has fetched a whopping 5 million views in Facebook.

This 1.35 minute trailer is centred around the protagonist Mathew Manjooran, played by Mohanlal. The movie looks like a crime thriller with Mohanlal playing the role of an investigating officer. Vishal, Hansika Motwani, Raashi Khanna and Srikanth, all of whom are making their debut appearance in Malayalam, feature in the trailer. Manju Warrier, Siddique, Chemban Vinod Jose, Aju Varghese and Renji Panicker are some of the other supporting actors in the movie.

Villain marks director B Unnikrishnan’s fourth movie with Mohanlal after Madampi, Grandmaster and Mr Fraud. The director has an brought together an excellent line up of technicians for the movie. Cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekambaram. Background score is handled by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam. Shameer Mohammed of Charlie and Angamaly Diaries fame is in charge of the editing department.

Villain is also the first production venture of the famous banner Rockline Films in Malayalam. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of this month. An official word regarding the release date is still awaited.

There have been a wide range of speculations regarding the lead actors in director Mani Ratnam’s next. Names like Ram Charan, Dulquer Salmaan, Madhavan, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sarah Ali Khan have been doing the rounds. Finally, it seems like the director has zeroed in on the actors for his upcoming multistarrer.

Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Jyothika, Nani and Aishwarya Rajesh have reportedly been roped in for this upcoming movie. Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh have already confirmed about signing for the movie while an official word regarding the casting of other actors is still awaited.

This yet-to-be-titled movie is being planned as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu languages. Jyothika, in a recent interview revealed that the movie will be going on floors in January next year.

Mani Ratnam’s last release was Kaatru Veliyidai, a love story starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. The movie came in with high expectations but ended up as a disappointing affair at the box office. So the director will be itching to get back to some much needed success.

It was already confirmed that Santhosh Sivan will be cranking the camera and AR Rahman will be scoring the music for the director’s next. An official announcement of the project is expected to be made very soon.

Nivin Pauly’s Onam release Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela (NNOI) has been getting great response from all the centres. This Althaf directorial has emerged the most successful among the four Onam releases. While NNOI continues to attract families, Nivin has resumed shooting for his upcoming movie Hey Jude, directed by Shyamaprasad.

Hey Jude marks the Malayalam debut of leading South Indian actress Trisha. In a recent interview to TOI, Nivin opened up about his admiration for Trisha and his experience working with her. Apparently, Nivin has been a huge fan of Trisha ever since the Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa days.

The ever humble actor is quoted saying, “It’s been a great experience working with Trisha. She’s friendly, down to earth and comfortable to work with. In terms of acting experience, she’s the senior. She made her debut in 2002 and I came into films almost a decade later. I have watched a lot of her films and have been a big fan since Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. Now, I am fortunate enough to act with her. It’s destiny that I am able to share screen space with such big actors.

Shoot for Hey Jude is progressing in Goa and nearby areas. It is a musical romantic tale set against the backdrop of Mangalore and Kochi. Just like other Shyamaprasad films, the protagonists in Hey Jude also have well fleshed out character skteches. Nivin Pauly and Trisha are playing oddballs in the film. Nivin is playing Jude who is a peculiar character and is inconsistent with the world around him. Trisha’s character Crystal is also a similar person.

Hey Jude explores the events that occur when two such people end up in a relationship. The movie will showcase the interesting situations that happen in their relationship, and how love and understanding transforms Jude’s life. Both the actors have pinned high expectations on the film especially Trisha who is highly excited about playing the challenging role of Crystal.

Veteran actors Mukesh, Prathap Pothen and Neena Kurup are also part of the cast. Girish Gangadharan, who won widespread appreciation for his work in Angamaly Diaries, is cranking the camera. Hey Jude is being produced by Anil Kumar under the banner of Ambalakkara Films. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

I’ll be losing weight for Odiyan even if it is by starving: Mohanlal

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is arguably one of the most anticipated movies in South India. The movie has an unique theme, which has rarely been tried in Indian cinema. It is a fantasy film that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism.

Odiyan marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon and is written by National award winner Harikrishnan. The movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice it, who are called Odiyan. There are a lot of stories and myths about Odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore. The first schedule was recently wrapped up in Varanasi.

There have been lot of talks about Mohanlal undergoing physical transformation for Odiyan, as his character in the movie demands it. He is essaying the role of Odiyan Manikyan and he will be seen from the age of 30 to 65 in multiple looks. The first look poster of the movie had Mohanlal in a clean shaven look with a lot trimmer physique. It is learnt that the veteran star will be training hard to achieve a similar look.

In a recent interaction session conducted by Manorama Online, one of Mohanlal’s fans asked him about his preparations for playing the role of Odiyan Manikyan. Mohanlal elaborated about how the makers have designed a few character looks for the different age groups he will be playing. He assured that he will be shedding down his weight even if it’s by starving.

An odiyan is someone who can take any shape, he can crawl and also run at high speed. Mohanlal’s Odiyan Manikyan is a terrific athlete who is mastered in Odividya. He can run on four legs and jump higher than normal people. So, Mohanlal needs to be in good shape to perform such stunts.

Peter Hein, who choreographed the amazing stunts in Pulimurugan, has been roped in to train Mohanlal. The movie also stars Manju Warrier and
Prakash Raj. Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget movie, which is eyeing a massive release by March next year.
