He enjoys a huge fan base, ranging from kids to elders, who were blown away by his marvellous performance in Baahubali. Beneath the gigantic figure that Prabhas is, lies a sweet charming guy who is fondly called darling by the masses.

Recently, Prabhas gifted a special gift to actor Vikram Prabhu’s son Virat, who is celebrating his birthday this month. Vikram Prabhu revealed that Amarendra Baahubali has gifted a sword to son, with a post in his Instagram account.

Vikram Prabhu’s post reads,

Prabhas is currently busy shooting for Saaho, a multilingual directed by Sujeeth. The movie stars a host of renowned actors from across the country. Bollywood diva Shraddha Kapoor is playing the female lead in the movie. Veteran Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Lal and Tamil actor Arun Vijay are playing prominent roles in the movie.

Saaho is jointly produced by Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the banner of UV Creations. To cash in on Prabhas’s huge popularity, the makers are shooting the movie as a trilingual in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages.

Mohanlal is arguably the best actor the country has ever produced. His body of work and the range of characters he has performed in his illustrious career speaks volumes about the legendary actor he is. Filmmakers, critics and his colleagues have all heaped praise on his stupendous acting prowess.

VA Shrikumar Menon, a renowned ad filmmaker who is set to direct Mohanlal in two highly ambitious projects – Odiyan and Mahabharatha – revealed about Amitabh Bachchan’s admiration for the Malayalam superstar. He narrated the episode during a recent programme organised by Manorama Online.

Shrikumar Menon was working with Amitabh Bachchan for an ad film shoot. Amitabh Bachchan had just returned back from acting with Leonardo DiCaprio in the Hollywood movie The Great Gatsby. A curious Shrikumar Menon asked Bachchan about his experience working with DiCaprio. He casually shrugged it off and said to Shrikumar Menon, “You come from a place which boasts of a better actor than DiCaprio – Mohanlal. There is no actor in world cinema who performs more precisely than Mohanlal.”

Amitabh Bachchan has always had huge respect for the two superstars of Malayalam cinema- Mohanlal and Mammootty. He has worked with the former in couple of films – Aag and Kandahar. Speculations are also rife about VA Shrikumar Menon roping in Amitabh Bachchan to play a prominent role in the 1000 crore project Mahabharatha. Only Mohanlal has been confirmed as of now and the makers are expected to officially announce details about the other cast members by the end of this year itslef. Let’s hope Amitabh Bachchan signs for this much anticipated movie. If it happens, it will be phenomenal to watch two of the country’s greatest actors together on screen.

Director Abrid Shine’s Poomaram has been in the making for a long time now. The movie marks the debut of Kalidas Jayaram as a lead actor in Mollywood. Shoot for the movie commenced last year and was supposed to hit screens by February this year. But shoot kept delaying due to some unknown reasons. Even trolls were made in social medias mocking the movie’s delay.

Some sections of online medias had even reported that Poomaram has been shelved. Finally, Kalidas Jayaram himself has come out clearing the airs about the movie’s release. In a recent interview to TOI, Kalidas informed that the movie’s shoot has been completed. He added that they took lot of time for shoot as they wanted to make the movie as perfect as possible.

He is quoted saying, “We have wrapped up the shooting and now the post production remains. A film is made just once, there is no retake once it’s over. So we have tried to make it as perfect as possible. There is no point in doing a bad job just to take it off our hands, people should like it. That’s why it took some time.”

He also added that only the post production works remain and that the movie will be releasing this year itself. Poomaram is reportedly a campus based movie with youth festival as a major part. Couple of songs from the movie ‘Njanum Njanumentalum’ and ‘Kadavathoru Thoni’ took social medias by storm. Both these songs topped the charts for months. The success of these songs have made the movie familiar with the audience even before it’s release.

Newcomer Archita Anish Kumar is playing a prominent role in the movie. Even though Archita is playing an integral part, she does not have any combination scenes with Kalidas Jayaram. The movie also stars Kunchacko Boban, Meera Jasmine, Gayathri Suresh and many other supporting actors.

Poomaram’s cinematography is handled by Gnanam. Jith Joshie is in charge of the edits. The movie is jointly produced by Dr Paul Varghese and director Abrid Shine.

Sivakarthikeyan-Fahadh Faasil duo’s Velaikkaran release postponed!

Velaikkaran, directed by Mohan Raja, is one of the most awaited Tamil films of this season. The movie starring Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara was slated to hit screens on September 29. However, the makers have now announced that they have pushed the release date to December 22.

They have issued a press release which states that the team is yet to complete the shoot of a couple of songs. Also, the movie’s censoring will take nearly 3-4 weeks time. Since Velaikkaran is a big budget movie, the makers were planning for a festive release but they could not release it in October as biggies like Mersal are scheduled to hit screens during this window. As there are no other festive holidays in November, the makers have zeroed in December 22 after discussions with the distributors and exhibitors.

Director Mohan Raja’s last release Thani Oruvan was a huge success. Velaikkaran also lies on similar lines of a socially relevant commercial entertainer. While Thani Oruvan was about medical mafia, Velaikaaran discusses about food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corrupt system. The movie marks the debut of Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil in Tamil cinema.

Fahadh is playing a full length character alongside Sivakarthikeyan in the film. Velaikkaran also stars Sneha, Prakash Raj, RJ Balaji, Rohini and Sathish in supporting roles. Music department is handled by young sensation Anirudh Ravichander. RD Raja of 24 AM Studios has produced this big ticket movie.

Mammootty is turning 66 today and wishes have been pouring in for the megastar from all corners of the world. Several of his fans, well wishers and colleagues have taken to social media platforms to wish the legend. Actor Prithviraj, who is shooting in USA, wished Mammootty through his Facebook page. He shared a photo he had taken with Mammootty during the shoot of Pokkiriraja in his page. Along with the photo he has also mentioned about his eagerness to act with Mammootty again.

Prithviraj’s Facebook post reads,

It is already known that director Vysakh is making Pokkiriraja’s sequel with Mammootty in the lead. The announcement was made on New Year’s day and it is said to be one of the biggest projects in Mammootty’s career. With Prithviraj hinting about his eagerness to act with Mammootty, there are talks about the former also being a part of Raja 2.

Pokkiri Raja, released in 2010, marked the directorial debut of Vysakh. Mammootty and Prithviraj played brothers in this mass entertainer. During Raja 2’s announcement, the director had revealed that it will not entirely be a sequel. Only the character is taken forward to the next part. The story, backdrop and the setting will be entirely different from Pokkiriraja.

Reportedly, Prithviraj has been approached to play a cameo role in the movie. An official confirmation about his casting is still awaited. The movie is being produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

Actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas is making her directorial debut in Malayalam with Moothon starring Nivin Pauly in the lead. It is one of the most awaited movies in recent years for it involves some of the country’s best available technicians. The team have been shooting in multiple schedules for the past few months.

Nivin Pauly’s character in Moothon will be one of his most challenging roles to date. He is sporting a different look for the movie with a closely cropped hair. In the movie’s first look poster, released few months back, Nivin was seen in a rough avatar with a shaven head and a pierced nose.

Apparently, Nivin has pinned high hopes on the movie. In a recent interview to TOI, he assured that Moothon will be a movie that Malayali audience can always be proud of. He is quoted saying, “Moothon is very much a mainstream movie. Be it Geetu, Rajeev Ravi or Anurag Kashyap, the people behind it are supremely talented. For graphics, the team who have worked in Life of Pi have been roped in. The grandeur, technology and story will ensure that it would be a movie that Malayalis can be proud of.”

Moothon is the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. The movie is about his journey to find his brother. ‘Moothon’ is actually an island slang for elder brother. The story of Moothon had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance film festival 2016.

Geetu Mohandas’s husband and cinematographer/ filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is cranking the camera. Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is making his entry to Mollywood by collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the Hindi dialogues. Thaikkudam Bridge fame Govind Menon is handing the music department.

Eros International and Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s new production house Colour Yellow Productions will be presenting the movie under the banner Jar Pictures.

Warner Bros. had recently announced that they are making a movie about the origin story of Joker. Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is also said to be involved as a producer. According to latest reports, Oscar Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio has emerged as the front runner for the role of the Joker.

Reports started surfacing only recently, with DC Films and Warner Bros. said to be developing a 1980s-set film about the iconic villain. The movie is to be directed by Todd Phillips, known for helming the Hangover series. How he fits into this big shift toward serious film making, considering he’s best known for the Hangover films, isn’t quite clear.

“The chances of landing DiCaprio could be slim to none. But the attempt in itself sends a signal to talent that Warners wants to hire serious filmmakers to make serious films,” THR reported.

If Leonardo DiCaprio officially signs the project, it would be the his first ever foray into the comic book movie world. Martin Scorsese’s presence as an executive producer is said to be the major reason behind Di Caprio coming on board. The legendary pair have famously worked together on movies like of The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Thala Ajith’s Vivegam was released on August 24 amidst tremendous hype. It is Ajith’s first release in two years and courtesy the highly impressive promos, expectations were sky-high. The movie opened to mixed reviews from the critics who were critical of the writing and Siva’s direction.

However, the mixed word of mouth did not have much of an impact on the collections as the movie has already stormed past the Rs 100 crore club. Vivegam is an ambitious spy thriller made entirely on the international grounds. Ajith played the role of AK, an international agent in the counter terrorist squad. His perfomance in the stunt sequences is one of the movie’s major highlights.

Hollywood stuntman Serge Crozon Cazin plays the role of a member from Ajith’s five-person team in the movie. He recently took to Twitter to share his experiences of watching Vivegam for the third time in the theatre.

Prabhas sports an extremely stylish look for the movie. The actor recently shared a photo which revealed the latest look that he sports for Saaho. After the release of Baahuabli 2: The Conclusion, Prabhas had trimmed down his weight to have a leaner physique for this upcoming movie.

Saaho is a very ambitious project made on a huge scale. International stuntman Kenny Bates, famous for his works in Hollywood films like Die Hard and Transformers has been roped in to choreograph the high octane stunts in Saaho. Renowned cinematographer R Madhie is wielding the camera and the famed trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is handling the music department.

Saaho will be shot across exotic locales in Romania, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of next year.
