Solo is an anthology in which Dulquer Salmaan plays four different characters, Bejoy Nambiar

Ever since it was announced that Bejoy Nambiar, noted for his films like Shaitan, David, Wazir etc, is doing a bilingual with Dulquer Salmaan, expectations were soaring high. The team released the first look poster recently on the occasion of Dulquer’s birthday. A 33 second teaser video was also released which gave a glimpse of something spectacular in store for the audience.

There have been a lot of speculations about Solo being an anthology and Dulquer doing multiple roles. Director Bejoy Nambiar in a recent interview confirmed the same and opened up more about the movie. Solo is a multi genre film that revolves around the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water.

Dulquer is playing four different characters which are somehow connected to the four elements. Bejoy Nambiar, who has also scripted the film, has woven these elements into four stories with love and revenge as the premise. It is a mix-genre attempt and the movie has an unique treatment.

Since Solo is made as a bilingual, the movie has a plethora of actors from industries across the country. Bollywood actor Dino Morea, Ann Augustine, Arti Venkatesh, Kabali fame Sai Dhansika, Deepti Sati, Marathi actress Sai Tamhankar, Sruthi Hariharan, Manoj K Jayan, Prakash Belawadi, Bengali filmmaker Quashiq Mukherjee, Sathish, Soubin Shahir, John Vijay and many others are part of the cast.

Music for the movie is composed by 11 different composers which includes several leading bands as well. Girish Gangadharan, Sejal Shah and Madhu Neelakandan have cranked the camera for the movie.

Abraham Mathew has produced the Malayalam version under the banner of Abaam Movies. Tamil version is jointly funded by Anil Jain and Bejoy Nambiar. The movie is slated to hit screens in September this year.

Kattappa’ Sathyaraj lands a prominent role in Sangamithra

Veteran actor Sathyaraj is now a popular face all across the country thanks to his role of Kattappa in SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali series. His character Kattappa had almost equal prominence to the lead roles and his performance as the loyal warrior was highly appreciated by the critics as well as the common audience.

Now according to latest reports, Sathyaraj has landed a crucial role in the upcoming magnum opus Sangamithra. This Sundar C directorial is being planned as the most expensive Tamil movie ever. Sri Thenandal Films is reportedly investing over Rs 250 crores for this massive project.

If reports are to be believed, Sathyaraj will be seen in a pivotal character in the film. Sangamithra is also an epic period film on the lines of Baahubali. The movie, written and directed by Sundar C, was supposed to have Shruti Haasan in the titular role. However, she opted out of the project after they had an high profile launch in the Cannes Film Festival.

Jayam Ravi and Arya are playing the male leads in the movie. The movie is set in the 8th century AD and both the actors are tipped to be playing warriors in the film. Jayam Ravi and Arya have been undergoing rigorous training in horse riding, physical combat and other weapon-based martial arts training.

Sathyaraj’s casting is yet to be officially confirmed by the makers of Sangamithra. Meanwhile, he is also playing a integral part in Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s upcoming movie Mersal, also produced by Sri Thenandal Films. Venkat Prabhu’s multi starrer Party is another movie in the veteran’s kitty.

Theri villain Mahendran to reprise chachan’s role in the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram

It is already known that ace filmmaker Priyadarshan is helming the Tamil remake of last year’s widely acclaimed Malayalam movie Maheshinte Prathikaram (MP). Actor/producer Udhayanidhi Stalin and Malayali actress Namitha Pramod are playing the lead roles in this fun entertainer.

Shoot for the movie commenced recently in Thenkasi. Director Priyadarshan shared a few photos from the movie’s sets in his Facebook page. Legendary filmmaker J Mahendran is reprising the role of protagonist’s father in the movie. The father’s role was a very prominent character in the Malayalam version. Mahendran made his acting debut last year with a terrific portrayal of the villain’s role in Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster film Theri.

Malayali actress Parvathy Nair has been roped in to reprise the character played by Anusree in Maheshinte Prathikaram. Samuthirakani is essaying the villain’s role and MS Bhaskar will be playing the role of the protagonist’s middle-aged friend, played by Alencier Ley in the original. Karunakaran will be seen in Udhayanidhi’s side-kick role, played by Soubin Shahir in MP.

Maheshinte Prathikaram, directed by Dileesh Pothan and starring Fahadh Faasil in the titular role, was a huge success, both critically and commercially. It went on to win numerous accolades including a couple of National Awards.

Priyadarshan had revealed that the Tamil verison will have some slight changes in the script. They have tweaked the script slightly to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Apparently, there will be much more prominence to humour in the Tamil version, which is yet to be titled.

Priyadarshan has retained his technicians from his last film Oppam for this upcoming movie also. NK Ekambaram is wielding the camera and MS Ayyappan Nair will be handle the edits. Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this movie.

We had earlier told you that director Rosshan Andrews is teaming up with Nivin Pauly for a movie based on the life of Kayamkulam Kochunni. The movie is being written by the National award winning duo Bobby and Sanjay.

In a recent interview, writer Sanjay opened up on when they chose Nivin Pauly to play Kochunni’s character. He is quoted saying, “Nivin Pauly has the body language that suits well for any character. Besides that his physique is very close that of Kochunni’s, which is described in the Aithihyamala, written by Kottarathil Sankunni.” Nivin will be undergoing a complete makeover for playing the role of Kochunni. He would also be training in Kalaripayattu for the movie.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is a big budget venture produced by Sri Gokulam Films. The team will be shooting majority of the portions in Sri Lanka, as the island nation has lush green areas and forests reminiscing India of the pre-independece period. Bobby-Sanjay scripted the movie after doing extensive research for over two years. The research works were done with the help of an 8 member core team, which also included history students.

The movie will explore several unknown aspects of Kochunni’s life from how he became a rebel to his love life. Amala Paul has been roped in to play the female lead. This is her second film alongside Nivin Pauly after working together in late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai’s Mili. Shoot for Kayamkulam Kochunni, which comes with the tagline ‘Most Dangerous Man’, will kick-start on the first week of September in Sri Lanka.

Nivin meanwhile is busy shooting for Shyamaprasad’s Hey Jude, which also marks the debut Malayalam film of actress Trisha. He is also awaiting the release of his first straight Tamil movie Richie, expected to hit screens next month. His Malayalam movie Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela, directed by Premam fame Althaf is scheduled for an Onam release.

We had already reported that Indrajith is teaming up with Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru fame Karthick Naren for an upcoming movie titled as Naragasooran. The movie has three male leads in Aravind Swamy, Indrajith and Sundeep Kishan. Shreya Saran is playing the female protagonist.

Indrajith had shared a photo of him with Karthick and informed that they will start shooting from September. According to the director, Naragasooran will be an dark and emotionally intense suspense drama. The movie comes with the tagline ‘The tale of a fallen demon’.

Karthick Naren won appreictaion from all corners for his debut film Dhuruvangal 16 aka D16, released last December. The movie starring Rahman in the lead role was a smashing success in the box office, which made the industry insiders as well as the audience to take notice of this 22 year old filmmaker.

Naragasooran is being jointly funded by filmmaker Gautham Menon under his banner Ondraga Entertainment. Impressed by Karthick Naren’s debut movie, Gautham Menon himself came forward to produce the youngster’s second movie.

Karthick Naren has retained almost the same team of technicians for his new movie. Sujith Sarang will be cranking the camera and Sreejith Sarang in charge of the edits. Oppam and Maya fame Ron Ethan Yohaan has been roped in to handle the music department.

Aima Rose Sebastian, who won hearts of many youngsters with her cute smile in Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam is all set to enter wedlock. The pretty actress is getting married to Kevin Paul, producer Sophia Paul’s son. Though Aima has acted only in two films- Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Munthirivallikal Thalirukkumbol- she is very popular among the Malayali audience.

Jacobinte Swargarajyam was Aima’s debut film, in which she played Nivin Pauly’s sister. In her second movie Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol, Aima played the prominent role of Jini, Mohanlal’s daughter. The movie was produced by Sophia Paul’s Weekend Blockbusters.

Aima is currently on a break films as she is completing her MBA in Manipal University at Dubai. She is basically from Kottayam but is at present living in the UAE with her family. Reportedly, Aima and Kevin will get married on January after the customary engagement, which is scheduled for December.

Sophia Paul entered production in 2014 by co-producing Anjali Menon’s Bangalore Days along with Anwar Rasheed. Weekend Blockbusters have also funded the critically acclaimed Kaadu Pookunna Neram, directed by Dr Biju.

The first look poster and teaser of Dulquer Salmaan’s Solo was released two days back on his birthday. The teaser has been getting phenomenal response and it continues to trend virally across social media platforms. The 33 second video gives a glimpse of what’s in store in this highly anticipated film.

The teaser was unveiled at a press meet held in Chennai, which was attended by Dulquer, director of the movie Bejoy Nambiar, Mani Ratanam, Rajiv Menon and others invitees from media. Bejoy Nambiar, who was an assistant to Mani Ratnam, proudly unveiled the teaser in the presence of his guru. The legendary filmmaker was also impressed by the visuals and said he is looking forward to the film. While speaking at the event, Mani Ratnam said, “Going by the first glimpse of the film, it looks very promising. I’m looking forward to the film.”

Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajiv Menon also had some nice words about Bejoy, Dulquer and their film Solo. Bejoy, who has also written the film, said that it was quite a tough task to complete the film. Since it’s a bilingual, they had to shoot every scene twice. Unlike his earlier bilingual attempt David, where they dubbed for a few portions, Bejoy has completely filmed Solo twice in Tamil and Malayalam.

Dulquer also thanked the audience of both the industries for their continuous support and encouragement.

“The audience, both in Malayalam and Tamil industry, are very accepting and encouraging. They give us the courage to do content-rich stories. Solo is a very courageous film. Making an anthology series is not a simple task. We had to put in the effort of making four films. Solo has great visuals, great music and I am very lucky to be a part of this project,” Dulquer told PTI.

Manju Warrier’s Udhaharanam Sujatha to hit screens during the Onam season

Udhaharanam Sujatha is Manju Warrier’s upcoming movie, directed by debutant Phantom Praveen. Shoot for the movie has already been wrapped up and the team is busy with the post production works.

Manju Warrier is playing the titular role in Udhaharanam Sujatha. She plays the character of a widow who has a 15 year old daughter. The actress will be seen sans any makeup in the movie. She is playing the resident of a local colony who does odd jobs to raise her daughter.

Mamta Mohandas is also playing a pivotal role. She will be seen as the district Collector. Her character has great prominence in the plot. Reportedly, some of the events in the film are based on real-life IAS officers and incidents.

Martin Prakkat and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame Naveen Bhaskar have jointly scripted this film, which will showcase the struggles of a single mother in upbringing her teenage daughter. Newcomer Anaswara is playing the role of Manju’s daughter in this film. Nedumudi Venu, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhi Koppa and Joju George are also part of the cast.

Senior cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan has cranked the camera and Mahesh Narayanan, who recently made his directorial debut with the widely acclaimed Take Off, is editing the movie. Gopi Sunder is handling the music department in Udhaharanam Sujatha.

According to latest reports, the makers are planning to release the movie for this year’s Onam season. However, an official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited. Some of the other confirmed Onam releases are Mohanl’s Velipadinte Pusthakam, Mammootty’s Pullikkaran Staraa and Nivin Pauly’s Njandukalde Naatil Oridavela.

Despite being one of the most revered actors the nation has ever produced, Kamal Haasan has been criticised on many occassions for hurting religious sentiments with his talks and through his movies. But Kamal has stood ground that he is an atheist and continues to believe in the same.

Recently, social medias were abuzz that his younger daughter Akshara Haasan has taken up Buddhism. Some Twitter users even went to the extent of mocking Kamal Haasan publicly over her daughter’s alleged religious choice. There have also been a number of media reports claiming that Akshara has changed her religion.

Finally, Kamal Haasan has responded and he did it openly on a public platform. He took to his Twitter page to ask if Akshara if she really had changed her religion. He added that even if she has, he is complete okay with it. He would be supporting her and continue to love her no matter what.

Akshara Haasan is currently awaiting the release of her debut Tamil film Vivegam starring Ajith Kumar in the lead. She is playing a prominent role in the movie, though Kajal Agarwal is playing Ajith’s pair. Akshara made her debut in films by essaying a major role alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush in R Balki’s Shamitabh.
