After the success of The Great Father, August Cinemas team up with Mammootty once again!

August Cinemas is one of the most established production houses in Mollywood currently. Their last release – The Great Father starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead was a huge success. The movie directed by debutant Haneef Adeni has emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year, as of now, and has already crossed the magical mark of 100 days theatrical run.

Earlier during a chat with Onlookers Media, Shaji Natesan, who is one of the founders of August Cinemas had informed that they will be producing another with Mammootty, this time a big budget venture. Talks are rife that the upcoming movie will be based on the life of the historical figure Kunjali Marakkar. Noted writer/actor Shankar Ramakrishnan is set to make his directorial debut with this project.

Shankar has earlier written films like Urumi and Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla. He has also directed a light and sound show based on Kunjali Marakkar, for the department of Kerala tourism development and archeological survey of India. Interestingly, Mammootty had lent his voice for Kunjali Marakkar in the show.

Few years back, cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Amal Neerad had also expressed his wish to direct the biopic of Kunjali Marakkar, with Mammootty in the titular role and Prithviraj in another vital role. Even though there were several discussions to make it on a big canvas, the project never really took off. The idea was shelved briefly before Shankar Ramakrishnan took it up.

It is reported that the official announcement regarding Kunjali Marikkar will be made at the success celebration of The Great Father. The 125 days celebration event is speculated to be held on September 7, which also happens to be Mammootty’s 66th birthday.

It is already known that Nivin Pauly is playing the lead in Roshan Andrews’ upcoming movie Kayamkulam Kochunni. The movie, based on the life of the famous rebel is scripted by the acclaimed writer duo of Bobby and Sanjay. Amala Paul has been roped in to play the female lead. Gokulam Gopalan is producing this film, which is all set to go on floors in September.

An interesting news we gather is that Nivin Pauly will be teaming up with the same team for another big budget movie after the completion of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Director Roshan Andrews, himself revealed this during a recent interview. Apparently, Nivin heard both the scripts at same time and immediately agreed to be part of it.

Their next film after Kayamkulam Kochunni will be a survival story based on some true events that occurred in Kerala. The plot is set in the backdrop of sea and will explore some facets of Capri mythology. The movie is being planned on a big canvas and an American company will also been involved in its production. This untitled film will also be dubbed and released in Tamil. Though the project is definitely happening, there is no official word regarding its commencement date.

Currently, director Roshan Andrews and his team are busy with the pre-production works of Kayamkulam Kochunni. They will be shooting majority of the portions in Sri Lanka. Some renowned technicians like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan, sound designer PM Satheesh and Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran, are part of this project.

Nivin meanwhile is busy shooting for ace director Shyamaprasad’s upcoming movie Hey Jude, in which he is paired opposite Trisha. His first straight Tamil movie Richie is expected to hit screens next month. Premam fame Althaf Salim’s Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela will be Nivin Pauly’s Onam release this year.

Over the last two years, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been getting a lot of offers from other industries. The success of his films like Janatha Garage, Manyam Puli (Telugu version of Pulimurugan) and the critically acclaimed Manamantha have increased his popularity among the non-Keralites.

Last day we had reported about Mohanlal in talks to do a multilingual film in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu languages. Kannada director Prem is set to helm this ambitious project. The Kannada version, titled as The Villain has popular actor Shivarajkumar as the lead. Shoot for the movie has already commenced and the first schedule was recently wrapped up in London. The Kannada version also stars Amy Jackson, Mithun Chakraborty and Sruthi Hariharan.

Reportedly, the makers have approached Mohanlal to play the lead roles in the other 3 languages. Actor Kiccha Sudeep will also be playing a major part in this project. Sudeep is the only actor who has been retained in all four languages. He is a very popular actor in the South, majorly due to the sensational success of SS Rajamouli’s Eega, in which he played the antagonist’s role.

If the project materializes, this will be the first time Sudeep and Mohanlal will be sharing screen space. It is an exciting collaboration as the both of them are extremely talented and well established actors. The audience will certainly be looking forward to see how they try to outscore each other.

A confirmation regarding Mohanlal officially signing for this big budget project is still awaited. The superstar has a jam-packed schedule ahead of him with multiple projects lined up. He is currently on a break after completing the shoot for Lal Jose’s Velipadinte Pusthakam. The highly anticipated Odiyan, directed by VA Shrikumar Menon, is expected to go on floors this month. B Unnikrishnan’s Villain is also in the final stages of post-production.

Pranav Mohanlal’s highly anticipated debut film as a lead actor went on floors earlier today in Ernakulam. The movie titled as Aadhi is written and directed by Jeethu Jospeh. Antony Perumbavoor is producing this movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Aadhi is tipped to be an action thriller on the lines of Jeethu Joseph’s superhit film Memories. As per the director, the movie will be made a complete entertainer that will appeal to audience of all age groups. Pranav Mohanlal is playing the titular role in the movie.

Reportedly, there is no heroine for Pranav even though strong female characters are part of the movie. Anusree, Alamara fame Aditi Ravi and Lena are playing prominent roles in the film. Siju Wilson, Sharafudheen, Siddique and Nobi are also part of the cast.

Since the movie involves a lot of action sequences, Pranav was undergoing training in Parkour for the past few months. Parkour is a kind of acrobatic training that involves crossing obstacles by running, climbing, jumping, rolling and swinging.

Aadhi will be shot extensively in Kochi, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Satheesh Kurup is cranking the camera. Jeethu Joseph’s regular Anil Johnson is composing the music and Ayoob Khan will handle the edits.

Director Jeethu Joseph took to his Facebook page to inform about the commencement of shoot and seeked all support and blessings for the movie. Aadhi is tipped to be an action thriller on the lines of his Jeethu Joseph’s superhit film Memories.

Pranav Mohanlal is playing the titular role in the movie. He had been undergoing training in Parkour, for the past few months as the movie involves lot of action sequences. Parkour is a kind of acrobatic training that involves crossing obstacles by running, climbing, jumping, rolling and swinging.

Bejoy Nambiar’s bilingual movie Solo starring Dulquer Salmaan is one of the most awaited films of the season. The recently released first look poster and teaser has sky rocketed the expectations among the audience. The movie, which was made simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam, includes a host of actors from industries across the country.

As reported by us earlier, Dulquer plays four different characters in the movie. The makers have revealed the character poster of Lieutenant Rudra Ramachandran, one of the four protagonists in the movie. Dulquer looks perfect as an young army man with his neatly trimmed moustache and the army man’s cut. Lt Rudra is his first attempt in the role of an army man and from what we gather from our sources, audience can be assured of another impressive perfomance from this talented actor.

Solo is a multi genre film that revolves around the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water. The all four characters played by Dulquer are somehow connected to the four elements. Bejoy Nambiar, who has also scripted the film, has woven these elements into four stories with love and revenge as the premise.

The movie’s supporting cast includes Dino Morea, Ann Augustine, Arti Venkatesh, Nasser, Suhasini, Anson Paul, Sai Dhansika, Deepti Sati, Sai Tamhankar, Sruthi Hariharan, Manoj K Jayan, Prakash Belawadi, Bengali filmmaker Quashiq Mukherjee, Sathish, Soubin Shahir and John Vijay among others.

Music for the movie is composed by 11 different composers which also includes several leading bands. Girish Gangadharan, Sejal Shah and Madhu Neelakandan have cranked the camera for the movie. Abraham Mathew has produced the Malayalam version under the banner of Abaam Movies. Tamil version is jointly funded by Anil Jain and Bejoy Nambiar. Solo is scheduled to hit screens in September this year.

Any movie is a result of hardwork and perseverance of hundreds of people. Likewise, Ramaleela is the output of continuous efforts and dedication of debutant director Arun Gopi and his team. The movie is currently facing a major issue as it’s lead actor Dileep has been arrested over charges of conspiracy in the shocking actress assault case.

Arun Gopi, in a recent interview opened up on the efforts that went behind Ramaleela and how he firmly believes that the Malayali audience will support them irrespective of all other issues.

After his college education, like majority of youngsters, Arun Gopi also wished to pursue a career in movies. He assisted directors like Lenin Rajendran, K Madhu and VM Vinu before deciding to turn independent. In 2013, he teamed up with writer Sachi and started working on Ramaleela. From there it was a hard fought journey to come up with his directorial debut under the prestigious banner of Mulakupadam Films.

“Like any other director, my first film was my dream and I approached it with utmost earnestness. Some things always tend to go beyond our calculations. But I still firmly belive that if the film is good, our audience will surely accept it”, says Arun Gopi.

Tomichan Mulakupadam has invested over Rs 14 crores for Ramaleela. Several well known actors like Radhika Sarathkumar, Mukesh, Vijayaraghavan, Renji Panicker and thousands of other junior artists have worked in this movie.

Currently, the makers are waiting for all the issues related to Dileep’s arrest to settle down. They are aware of the impact that Dileep’s arrest will have on the box office collections. Despite that the director and his team are hopeful that the Malayali audience will accept the movie if the final output is good.

Soundarya Rajinikanth is excited about the release of her second directorial VIP 2, which stars her brother in law Dhanush, Amala Paul and Bollywood actress Kajol in the lead roles. Though VIP 2 is her second film, it is her first attempt in a live-action format. Her debut directorial was Kochadiiyaan, starrring her father superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role.

Kochadiiyaan, released in 2014 was India’s first photorealistic motion capture film. The movie had a stellar star cast in Rajinikanth, Deepika Padukone, Shobhana, Sarath Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Nasser etc. Veteran filmmaker KS Ravikumar had scripted the movie, which was an epic historical fiction film. The movie’s story is about the quest of an 8th century warrior who seeks revenge after witnessing the unlawful punishment administered to his father, who is a good hearted warrior, by the jealous ruler.

Kochadaiiyaan received mixed to positive reviews from critics worldwide. Criticisms were largely towards the substandard motion capture animation technology. The story, AR Rahman’s music and performances of all the cast members were highly appreciated. Ever since the movie’s release, there have been talks about the possibility of a sequel for the film.

Recently, Soundarya Rajinikanth was asked about the same in an interview and it looks like she indeed has plans to make a sequel. The director said she is extremely passionate about visual effects and talked about how SS Rajamouli amazed her with his work in Baahubali.

Kochadiiyaan concluded with a Rana versus Sena scenario. Soundarya, in the interview, revealed she has an idea ready for a sequel and if everything goes right, she will be developing it into a full fledged script. Talks are already rife that if at all a sequel is made, it will be in live-action format as the previous attempt in animation was not received well by the common audience.

Meanwhile, Soundarya and her team are busy with the promotional activities of VIP 2. The movie, produced jointly by Wunderbar Films and V Creations, was initially scheduled to release on July 28 but has now been pushed to August.

Tamil movies have always had a huge market in Kerala. Vijay, Suriya and superstar Rajinikanth have given tight competition to Malayalam stars during their movies’ release time. The wide popularity of Kollywood stars have even forced filmmakers in Kerala to plan their releases accordingly.

Over the last few years, Tamil superstar Ajith has also extended his market to Kerala. He enjoys great popularity in the state and that is evident from the rousing initial response for his movies. His latest film Vivegam is gearing up for a massive release. We had earlier reported about Mulakupadam Films acquiring the distribution rights for Vivegam in Kerala.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the movie will be released in over 200 screens all over Kerala. This will reportedly be the biggest ever release for an Ajith film in the state. Earlier, Tomichan Mulakupadam had bagged the rights for a whopping Rs 4.25 crores, which was also the highest ever for an Ajith starrer.

Vivegam is a spy thriller directed by Siruthai Siva, his third successive film with Ajith aftee Veeram and Vedhalam. This is Ajith’s first release in two years and the highly impressive teaser and promos have enhanced the anticipation levels. Release date has not yet been confirmed eventhough there are reports that the movie will hit screens worldwide on August 17. Censoring was done today and the CBFC officals have given a U/A certificate due to the fight scenes.

Ajith is tipped to be playing the role of a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent in the movie. He has undergone a terrific make over for the movie by shedding down a lot of extra pounds.

Kajal Agarwal is playing the female lead while Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi and Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan will be seen in prominent roles. Young sensation Anriudh Ravichander has composed the music. This big budget movie is produced by Satya Jyothi Films.

Suriya, who celebrated his 42nd birthday very recently, is currently busy wrapping up the final schedule of Thaana Serntha Koottam, his upcoming movie directed by Vignesh Shivan. The actor has already committed two other projects – one with director Selvaraghavan and the other with Irudhi Suttru fame Sudha Kongara.

The much awaited Selvaraghavan movie will be the first to go on floors. As per the latest reports coming in from Kollywood media, leading Telugu actress Rakul Preet Singh has been approached to play the female lead in the film. The pretty actress is currently busy shooting for Mahesh Babu’s Spyder, directed by AR Murugadoss.

Rakul Preet Singh is also simultaneously shooting for Theeran Athikaram Ondru, starring Suriya’s brother Karthi in the lead. Her coming on board for the Suriya-Selvaraghavan movie is yet to be made official. Rakul Preet Singh is a talented actress and from the outset she makes a good pair with the charming Suirya. Also, heroines in Selvaraghavan’s movies have always had meaty roles with good scope for performance.

Selvaraghavan is presently working on his upcoming movie Mannavan Vanthanadi, starring Santhanam and Aaditi Pohankar in the lead roles. The director’s horror thriller Nenjam Marapadhillai which stars SJ Suriyah, Regina Cassandra and Nanidta Swetha in major roles has repeatedly been postponed. It is finally expected to hit screens next month.

Works for his next directorial venture with Suriya will commence only after he wraps up his prior commitments.
