Dileep’s Ramaleela is not a mass film

Actor Dileep has had a lean phase with his last few releases; Pinneyum, Welcome to Central Jail and Georgettan’s Pooram failing to do well at the box office. He will be hoping to return back to winning ways with his next release Ramaleela, a political thriller.

Ramaleela will mark the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Arun Gopi. The posters of Ramaleela promise a very intense movie unlike his usual comedy entertainers. The director in a recent interview revealed that it will not be a mass movie.

Dileep is playing the role of a non-practising lawyer, a common man who by circumstances becomes an MLA. The director informed that the movie will reflect Kerala’s contemporary political scenario. However, the political parties in the movie will be purely fictional.

Dileep has previously played the role of politicians in movies like Lion and Nadodi Mannan. But, Ramaleela will be a different kind of movie and the director feels that it is unfair to compare Ramaleela with other political thrillers.

Noted scenarist Sachy has scripted this movie. This is the first time Sachi is scripting for another director after turning a filmmaker with Prithviraj’s superhit romantic movie Anarkali.

Prayaga Rose Martin will be seen as the female lead opposite Dileep. Veteran Kollywood actress Radhika Sarathkumar is making a comeback to Kollywood after two decades by playing Dileep’s mother.

Ramaleela has a very endearing mother- son relationship in the backdrop of political affairs. Renji Panicker is also playing a pivotal role. The cast also includes Mukesh, Salim Kumar, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Suresh Krishna and Kalabhavan Shajon in supporting roles.

Pulimurugan’s cinematographer Shaji Kumar has cranked the camera while Vivek Harshan is in charge of the edits. Gopi Sunder is handling the music department. The movie is produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam’s banner Mulakupadam Films. Ramaleela is slated to hit screens on July 7th.

Tovino Thomas gets a Tamil villain in Mayaanadhi

Tovino Thomas is currently shooting for his upcoming movie Mayaanadhi with director Aashiq Abu. The movie, touted to be a romantic entertainer is based on director Amal Neerad’s story. Dileesh Nair and Shyam Pushkar are jointly scripting this film.

Shoot for the movie is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Madurai and surrounding areas. A major portion of the movie is set in these areas. The team will be shooting there for sometime before returning back to Kochi.

Tamil actor Harish Uthaman has been roped in to play the villain role in the movie. He is noted for this perfomance in movies like Pandiya Naadu, Meagamann, Thani Oruvan, Bairavaa etc. He was last seen in Malayalam in Prithviraj’s Mumbai Police. Harish is reportedly playing the role of a CBCID officer in the Tovino Thomas starrer.

Aishwarya Lekshmi is playing the female lead in Mayaanadhi. The movie is an urban love story and she will be playing the role of a techie based in Kochi. Aishwarya’s debut movie Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela where she played the female lead opposite Nivin Pauly is yet to be released.

Mayaanadhi is jointly produced by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mil Cinemas and Amal Neerad’s banner Amal Neerad Productions. Rex Vijayan is handling the music director while Jayesh Mohan is cranking the camera. Saiju Sreedharan is in charge of the edits.The movie is scheduled to hit screens in October, this year.

Nivin Pauly is playing the role of a professional rowdy in Richie. The movie is set in a coastal area and Nivin will be seen as a tough, fearless local- rowdy. Anushka was in Kerala recently for an Ayurvedic treatment as part of weight reduction. She had earlier put on a lot of weight for her bilingual movie Size Zero. It was the story of an obese woman and Anushka being a thorough professional did not want to use prosthetics. She put on around 20 kilos to play the role. Right now she is sweating it hard to shed down the extra kilos to be fit by the time her next movie starts rolling.

Fahadh Faasil has two releases this month!

Fahadh Faasil started this year in grand style delivering a stellar perfomance as an embassy official in the widely acclaimed movie Take Off. Two of his movies are gearing up for release this month. Raffi’s Role Models and Dileesh Pothen’s Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum will be hitting screens this month for the Eid season.

Director Raffi’s Role Models has long been in the making. It is a story of how the protagonist takes off to Goa to learn to take life lightly, with his friends. Fahadh, Vinayakan, Vinay Forrt and Sharafudheen play college mates in the movie. Namitha Pramod is playing the female lead and will be seen in a different makeover as an adventure sports trainer. Srinda Arhaan Renji Panicker, Seetha and many others will be seen in supporting roles. Gopi Sunder is handling the music department while Shamdat Sainudeen has cranked the camera. The movie is produced by GP Vijayakumar under the banner of Seven Arts. According to reports, Role Models is slated to hit screens on June 23.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year. It marks the second time union of Fahadh Faasil with director Dileesh Pothen after the widely acclaimed Maheshinte Prathikaram. The movie stars Fahadh Faasil, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Alencier Ley Lopez and debutante Nimisha Sajayan in the major roles. It is said to be a realistic entertainer revolving around the story of four different people and how law and order affects their lives. The movie is written by former journalist Sajeev Pazhoor and produced under the banner of Urvashi Theatres. Popular cinematographer turned filmmaker Rajeev Ravi has cranked the camera for this movie. Bijibal has handled the music department. Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is scheduled to release on June 30.

With two back to back releases, Fahadh will be hoping to strike gold in the box office. He is returning back to big screen as a lead actor after a long while, so the audience are also excited about the two releases. Let’s hope both the movies can yield the desired results.

He will also be directing the upcoming magnum opus Randamoozham aka The Mahabharata, which is being planned as the most expensive Indian movie ever. So, the audience are eagerly waiting for Odiyan to assess the calibre of Shrikumar Menon.

Odiyan, written by National award winner Harikrishnan is a fantasy drama. It is a thriller that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism. Odiyan is named after a man who is mastered in Odividya. The movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic trick used to tackle the enemies

Odiyan has some big names in the cast as well as the technical team. Manju Warrier has been roped in to play the female lead in while Prakash Raj will be seen in a powerful antagonist’s role.

The makers have roped in Peter Hein to choreograph the stunts. Sabu Cyril is in charge of the production design. Sreekar Prasad will be editing this movie. Pulimurugan DOP Shaji Kumar will be cranking the camera while M Jayachandran will handle the music department.

Vishwa Vikhyatharaya Payyanmar is an upcoming movie starring Aju Varghese, Deepak Parambol, Bhagath Manuel, Sudhi Koppa, Harish Kayaran and Deepak Parambol are in the lead roles.

Rajesh Kannankara, who made his debut in 2011 through the Asif Ali starrer Ithu Nammude Katha, is directing this movie. Dangal has earned Rs 1900 crores at the box office worldwide

Aamir Khan’s Dangal continues to get phenomenal response at the Chinese box office. The movie has earned around Rs 1116.91 crores at the China box office, whereas in Taiwan the film has grossed Rs 38.75 crores.

The movie was released on May 5 in 9000 screens in China. Ever since then, it has been getting excellent response from the Chinese audience. Within a month from it’s release, Dangal created history by earning over Rs 1000 crores at the Chinese box office. It became the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1000 crore. It is currently the highest earning non- Hollywood film in the country.

Currently, the overseas gross of Dangal alone is estimated to be around Rs 1357.66 crores. That takes the film’s worldwide collection to over Rs 1900 crores. If the movie manages to cross the 2000 cr mark, it will be the first ever Indian movie to do so.

SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is close behind Dangal. It is worth a mention that the Prabhas – Rana Daggubati starrer has not yet released in China and Taiwan.

Dangal is a sports drama directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The movie also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Suhani Bhatnagar, Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. It is inspired from the real life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to world class wrestlers. The film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures.

Editor Mahesh Narayanan’s directorial debut Take Off is probably the most acclaimed Malayalam movie of the year as of now. The movie starring Parvathy Menon, Kunchako Boban, Fahadh Faasil and Asif Ali in major roles, is inspired from real life events. It is a fictionalized account of the 2014 incident where a group of Malayali nurses were held captive in the Tikrit region in Iraq.

Take Off, released on March 24 opened to extremely positive reviews from critics. After a slow start, the movie picked up with the positive word of mouth helping a great deal in attracting the audience. Leading stars like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Jayasurya, Kamal Haasan, Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan showered praise on the movie. The positive word of mouth has had a great impact in the box office collections.

According to reports from trade sources, Take Off has grossed Rs 16.5 cr crores from it’s theatrical run in Kerala. Since it’s a big budget movie, it can be given the status of a ‘hit movie’. With the rest of India & overseas gross, satellite and other rights, the movie is expected to have done a business of around Rs 20 crores.

Take Off had to compete with some biggies like The Great Father, 1971 Beyond Borders, Sakhavu and Puthan Panam during it’s theatrical run. But it managed to hold steady and successfully crossed the 50 days theatrical run.

Take Off was made as a tribute to late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai. It is funded by Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker in association with Rajesh Pillai Films. Mekha Rajesh Pillai is the executive producer of the movie.

Here’s the first look poster of Sai Pallavi’s debut Tamil movie Karu

Sai Pallavi, who became an overnight sensation in the south Indian film industry with Premam, is all set to make her debut in Tamil. The first look poster of her upcoming movie Karu was released today by actor/filmmaker Prabhu Deva.

Karu, directed by AL Vijay Karu is a horror film. The first look is an intriguing one that piques the curiosity of them audience. Sai Pallavi and a girl hugging each other are seen lying on a in a lush green meadow. The pose resembles that of a foetus inside a womb and they are placed at the centre of what seems like a wreath.

Karu will also be made in Telugu and the director has roped in young talent Naga Shourya to play the male lead. Nirav Shah will be cranking the camera while Anthony will handle the edits. The movie is funded by Lyca productions.

Sai Pallavi, who is of Tamil origin, enjoys a huge fan following even before making her debut in Kollywood. She was initially cast for Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai but was later replaced by Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari. She was also officially signed to play the female lead in Vikram’s Sketch with director Vijay Chander of Vaalu fame. But the actress opted out of the project due to some unknown reasons and has now been replaced by Tamannaah.

Sai Pallavi is currently busy working on her Telugu debut movie Fidha. The movie is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kammula and stars Varun Tej as the hero.
