SIIMA Awards; Mohanlal nominated from both Malayalam and Telugu

The nominations list for the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2017 has been released. The winners will be selected on the basis of voting from the public. This year, the SIIMA event is being held at Abu Dhabi on June 30 and July 1. The Telugu and Kannada awards are being held on June 30 while the Malayalam and Tamil awards are scheduled on the next day.

Interestingly, superstar Mohanlal has been nominated from two languages; Malayalam and Telugu. In Malayalam he is nominated for the best actor for his performance in Pulimurugan. He is nominated along with Dulquer Salmaan (Kammattipadam), Fahadh Faasil (Maheshinte Prathikaram), Biju Menon (Anuraga Karikkin Vellam) and Nivin Pauly (Action Hero Biju).

In Telugu, he is nominated in the best supporting actor category for his performance in the blockbuster movie Janatha Garage. Mohanlal played the role of Sathyam, an highly influential do-gooder. The veteran star’s subtly controlled performance in a Telugu movie, generally known for loud performances was highly appreciated by the critics.

Mohanlal won a Special Jury award in the 64th National Film Awards, after the jury considered his performance in Janatha Garage, Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic, Sachin: A Billion Dreams continues to do great business across all the release centres. In Kerala, the film had a limited release finding screens mostly in multiplexes.

According to latest reports from trade sources, Sachin: A Billion Dreams has managed to earn Rs 1.12 crores from it’s 6 days theatrical run in the state. The Kerala box office is highly competitive now with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Godha and Adventures Of Omanakuttan doing good business. Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a docu-drama which is a new experience for the audience.

The film, directed by James Erskine
hit screens on May 26 amid great expectations. It was released in 2400 screens in India and 400 screens overseas. The film opened to largely positive reports from the critics. The film has managed to gross around Rs 40 crores in all the four languages.

Sachin: A Billion Dreams showcases Sachin Tendulkar’s journey from a just another kid to become the world’s best cricketer. Apart from his cricket and personal life, it also reveals certain unknown aspects of his life. The film has real footage from Sachin’s personal life to the years he spent on the field.

Sachin Tendulkar, his wife Anjali, kids Sara and Arjun, cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virender Sehwag are all part of the movie. Oscar Award winner AR Rahman has composed the music. The film was shot simultaneously in Hindi, Marathi and English. It was dubbed and released in Tamil and Telugu languages.

Sachin: A Billion Dreams is produced by Ravi Bhagchandka and Carnival Motion Pictures under the banner of 200 NotOut Productions.

Prithviraj has been away for a while, busy shooting in Scotland his upcoming movie Adam Joan. The movie, which marks the debut directorial of writer Jinu Abraham is touted to be a revenge thriller. Second official poster from the movie was released today.

Prithviraj shared the poster in his official Facebook page and along with it wrote that the Scotland leg shooting has been completed. The poster features Prithviraj offering flowers in a graveyard with actor Narain in the background. The movie also stars Bhavana, Rahul Madhav and Bollywood actress Mishti Chakraborty in major roles.

Director Jinu Abraham has earlier scripted two Prithviraj starrers; Masters and London Bridge. Adam Joan will have Prithviraj playing the title character Adam Joan Pothen, a high range planter who manages his family business and properties after his father passes away.

Major portions of the movie is shot in Scotland. Narain is playing the role of Cyriac, his friend from college. Adam comes across Cyriac when he travels to Scotland, and he helps him in his journey. Narain will be seen as a good-natured guy who has many contacts and helps Adam throughout the story. The actor has got a meaty role and lengthy screen time in this movie.

Bollywood actress Mishti Chakraborty is playing the romantic interest of Prithviraj’s character in the film. Bhavana will have an equally prominent role. Veteran actor Siddique, Lena, Jaya Menon and Baby Abida Hussain, who played Akshay Kumar’s daughter in Airlift, are also part of the cast.

Adam Joan is being produced by Brijeesh Mohamed, Josemon Simon and Nihal. Jithu Damodar is cranking the camera and Deepak Dev is handling the music department. Renji Panicker will be presenting this movie under his banner Renji Panicker Entertainment.

A few weeks back, we had reported about Second Show fame Srinath Rajendran planning to rope in Prithviraj and Indrajith for his upcoming movie. Apparently, the news has turned out to be true and the project is indeed on.

Berly Thomas, popular for his blog Berlytharangal is debuting as a scenarist through this movie. It will be an adventure filled film set in the backdrop of the world famous Himalayan Rally.

Prithviraj and Indrajith will be appearing as brothers in the movie. They will be seen as car racing enthusiasts in the movie. Raid De Himalaya is the world’s highest motorsport event. It is a very thrilling but equally dangerous event.

Only a handful of movies have showed the rally on screen. Aashiq Abu’s 2015 movie Rani Padmini had some major portions shot in the rally. According to reports, the upcoming Srinath Rajendran directorial will be shot extensively in real locations amid the rally. They are planning to kick-start the shoot by October, this year.

Srinath Rajendran showed much promise with his debut movie Second Show, which marked the arrival of Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne to the film industry. Srunath’s second directorial was Koothara starring Mohanlal, Bharath, Tovino Thomas and Sunny Wayne in major roles.

After a gap of nearly three years, the director announced that he would be teaming up with Sunny Wayne once again. The movie officially went on floors earlier this year in Bangalore. We presume that Srinath will commence the works for his movie with Prithviraj and Indrajith after wrapping up the yet to be titled Sunny Wayne starrer.

Rajadhiraja fame Ajai Vasudev has informed that his upcoming movie Masterpiece with Mammootty in the lead will be a mass thriller with a campus backdrop. True to the claim, the team have been shooting some power packed action sequences featuring Mammootty.

Recently, Anal Arasu had choreographed an action block where Mammootty had to fight it out 30 stuntmen. This sequence is said to be one of the major highlights of the film. The team is putting in all their efforts to ensure that it turns out to be an absolute treat for the Megastar’s fans.

Masterpiece, written by Udhayakrishna features Mammootty as a college professor. He is playing the role of professor Edward Livingston aka Eddy. The story is about the arrival of Eddy, a strict and tough professor to a college of spoilt students.

Shoot for the movie is currently progressing in Fathima Matha college in Kollam. The movie has a huge star cast. Unni Mukundan and Kasaba fame Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be seen as police officers. Gokul Suresh, Mahima Nambiar, Poonam Bajwa, Maqbool Salmaan, Mukesh, Kalabhavan Shajon, Santhosh Pandit, Salim Kumar and many others are also part of the cast.

Director SS Rajamouli is basking in the historic success of his Baahubali franchise. He has kick-started a new trend of big budget period movies in Indian cinema. Following the massive success of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, several filmmakers across the country are planning similar projects.

But what is SS Rajamouli up to? The whole of Indian cinema audience is eagerly looking forward to know what next from the director. Rajamouli is currently on a short break in London after having wrapped up all the promotional activities of Baahubali.

According to certain reports, his next project will be produced by DVV Danayya. It is heard that Rajamouli will opt one of the lead actors from the Telugu industry once the film is locked. His father and writer KV Vijayendra Prasad has pitched a couple of ideas and the director will be finalizing one soon. He will be spending another three to six months to develop it into a full fledged script. It must be noted that Vijayendra Prasad was the writer of Rajamouli’s several blockbuster films including the Baahubali franchise, Eega, Magadheera, Vikramarkudu, Yamadonga etc.

Meanwhile, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is coming towards the end of it’s theatrical run but is still managing to pull a fair amount of audience to the multiplexes. The movie’s Hindi version recently scripted created a new record by becoming the first ever Hindi film to earn Rs 500 crores.

It is the first Indian film to have collected Rs 500 crore in any Indian language in the domestic market. Apart from this, the Prabhas starrer has also become the first film to gross over Rs 300 crores in the twin Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Overall, the worldwide gross has crossed well past the Rs 1500 crore mark.

Geetu Mohandas’ debut directorial in Malayalam has huge expectations among the audience. The movie, starring Nivin Pauly in the lead has some big names from the North, associated with it in the technical side. The director has now roped in some Bollywood actors to act alongside Nivin in Moothon.

Shashank Arora, Sobitha Dhulipala and Harish Khanna will be playing pivotal characters in the movie. Shashank has played the lead in widely acclaimed films such as Titli and Brahman Raman, while Harish Khanna was part of movies like Kaminey and Gangs of Wasseypur.
Sobitha Dhulipala was the female lead in Anurag Kashyap’s psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0. Maheshinte Prathikaram fame Sujith Shankar, Alencier Ley Lopez, Soubin Shahir and newcomer Melissa Thomas are also playing supporting roles in Moothon.

Geetu Mohandas’ story of Moothon had had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance film festival last year. It’s about a young boy Mulla in search of his older brother Akbar and all the other characters come incidental to the story telling. Moothon is a Lakshadweep slang for elder brother.

Nivin Pauly’s character has no such name in the movie. According to the director, he is playing one of those interesting characters that we come across in the downtrodden areas of Mumbai, such as the red light district of Kamathipura, where the team shot recently. Geetu is mighty impressed by Nivin’s performance. She feels that the extensive workshop that they had prior to the shoot had helped him a lot. He has many Hindi dialogues in the movie, and it was no big challenge as the team had a coach to help him out.

Geetu Mohandas’ husband and cinematographer/ filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is cranking the camera. Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the Hindi dialogues. Govind Menon is handing the music department for this movie.

Eros International and Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s new production house Colour Yellow Productions will present the movie under the banner Jar Pictures. The team wrapped up the Mumbai schedule a few weeks ago, and will begin the second schedule in Lakshadweep in September or October.

Shoot for Mammootty’s upcoming movie with 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar has already been wrapped up. Eventhough the team have not yet released the title officially, our sources close to the unit inform that they have zeroed in on the title ‘Oridathoru Rajakumaran’.

Mammootty is playing the role of Rajakumaran, an instructor in a teacher training institute. Rajakumaran is an Idukki native who comes to Kochi as a teacher’s trainer. He is a very jovial person who considers every student of his as a child. The students love his lectures as he connects and explains everything with an interesting anecdote. He is a superb story teller and the film will reveal the reasons for the same.

The core plot of the movie is centred around the events happening after he joins a government institute in Kochi. Nee-na fame Deepti Sati and Asha Sarath are playing the female leads.
The latter will also be seen as a teacher in this movie. Innocent, Dileesh Pothen, Hareesh Perumanna and Sohan Seenulal are also part of the cast.

The movie is written by debutant Ratheesh Ravi. Vinod Ilampally is the DOP while M Jayachandran is composing the songs for this movie, produced by B Rakesh under the banner Universal Cinemas.

According to our sources, the movie will be a complete entertainer that will appeal to them audience of all age groups. The makers are planning to release the movie for the Onam season.

Although Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is slowing down evidently, that hasn’t stopped the movie from creating new records. The movie’s Hindi version has scripted history by becoming the first ever Hindi film to earn Rs 500 crores.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which has been giving a stiff completion to Baahubali is far behind in this race and there is no chance for it to surpass the record as it’s theatrical run ended almost three months back. Currently, the movie is doing unbelievable business in China, recently becoming only the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1000 crore.

Baahubali 2’s Hindi version is an all-time number movie in Bollywood in the domestic market. This is the first Indian film to have collected Rs 500 crore in any Indian language in domestic market. The Hindi version of Baahubali 2’s entry to the Rs 500 crore club was confirmed by trade analyst Ramesh Bala. He tweeted,

They have made it clear that they are looking to release the film with a proper strategy this time in China, Japan, Taiwan and the Latin American countries among others
