Kalidas Jayaram in Alphonse Puthren’s next?

It’s been over nearly two years since Alphonse Puthren gave Premam, one of the highest grossing Malayalam movies of all time. The director is now prepping up to start shooting for his next, which will be a Tamil movie.

Speculations were rife about the director teaming up with Nivin Pauly once again but the director recently confirmed that Nivin is not a part of his next movie. Now there are reports about Kalidas Jayaram being approached to play the lead in this upcoming movie.

Last year, Kalidas made his debut appearance in Tamil with the movie Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum. Poomaram, his Malayalam debut as a lead actor is gearing up for release. However, there is still no official confirmation about the actor teaming up with Alphonse Puthren.

The director has already established himself in the industry with his first two movies, Neram and Premam. Neram, which was a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam, was a commercially successful venture. His Premam was a huge hit in Tamil Nadu which made him very popular among the Tamil audience.

Alphonse Puthren had recently revealed that his next will be a musical entertainer. For his upcoming movie, he has retained his two trusted friends/technicians; cinematographer Anend C Chandran and composer Rajesh Murugesan. More details regarding the project is expected to be announced in the next few days.

KS Chithra finally gets to meet the kid who amazed her with her singing

KS Chithra is one of the most accomplished playback singers that the country has ever seen. A six time national winner, KS Chithra has lent her voice in almost all the Indian languages for over 25,000 songs.

Music lovers fondly call her Vanambadi or the nightingale of Kerala for her soothing and melodious voice. Even today, not many singers can match up to KS Chithra’s voice and grace.

Recently, the legendary singer was amazed by a small kid’s rendering of her famous song “Manjal prasadavum nettiyil charthi“. Chithra had posted the video on her Facebook wall enquiring about the whereabouts of the kid.

Finally, she got to meet the kid named Rukmini. Chithra spent some time with her and blessed her. She took photos with Rukmini and her mother and shared it in her official Facebook page. Along with the photos, the singer has written,

“Hi Friends
Recently I met Rukmini the little baby who sang my song ‘Manjal Prasadavum’ which became viral.
I was so amazed to be with a child prodigy. Just 30 months old speaks very little. Picks up difficult songs and she is pitch perfect. She refused to sing in front of me though..
God bless her with ‘Ayurarogyasaukhyam” and let us have a Lata Mangeshkar..”

Incidentally, the above mentioned song ‘Manjal Prsadavum’ from the movie Nakakshathangal had won Chithra a National award. The song was written by legendary poet ONV Kurup and composed by Bombay Ravi.

Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph’s latest outing Godha was released on May 19. The movie stars promising young actor Tovino Thomas, Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker in the lead roles. It is a fun filled entertainer with wrestling as the backdrop.

Godha is written by Thira fame Rakesh Mantodi. Shaan Rahman has composed the music while Vishnu Sarma cranked the camera. Aanandam fame Abhinav Sunder Nayak has edited the movie.

Godha opened to excellent response from all the release centres. Critics also gave positive reports for the movie. The fact that it is a rollicking comedy entertainer has attracted the families to the theatres. Aju Varghese, Hareesh Perumanna, Dharmajan, Sreejith Ravi and Biju Kuttan take care of the humour department in the movie.

According to latest reports from trade sources, Godha has grossed Rs 6.04 crores from it’s 7 day run in the Kerala box office. There is a gradual increase in collections for the movie. Godha was affected by piracy after it’s pirated copies were uploaded in social medias by some anti socials. The makers immediately approached the cyber cell and their swift action prevented the copies from spreading via internet. Godha is produced by AV Anoop, CV Sarathy and Mukesh R Mehta under the banner of E4Entertainment.

Director Kannan Thamarakkulam’s Achayans was released on May 19 along with Tovino Thomas’ Godha and Asif Ali’s Adventures Of Omanakuttan. Acahyans is a multistarrer featuring has a host of actors like Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Unni Mukundan, Amala Paul, Anu Sithara, Adil Ibrahim and Sanju Sivaram in prominent roles.

Achayans, written by Sethu was promoted as a fun filled entertainer. The movie opened to mixed reviews from the critics with a watchable tag. According to latest reports from trade sources, Achayans has managed to earn Rs 3.30 crores from it’s 7 days theatrical run from the Kerala box office.

This is an average opinion considering the mixed reviews and the fact that the two other releases; Godha and Adventures Of Omanakuttan also opened to good reports. Also the movie did not release in some major multiplexes in the state due to the profit share issue with the distributors.

Veteran actor Siddique, Manianpillai Raju, Pashanam Shaji, Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan Bolgatty and Suji Varunee have also played supporting roles in Achayans. Pradeep Nair is the cinematographer for this movie while Gopi Sunder has handled the music department. It is produced by C K Padmakumar under the banner DNVP Creations.

Dulquer Salmaan is currently busy enjoying the fresh phase of fatherhood. The actor recently became a proud father of a baby girl recently. His wife Amaal Sufiya gave birth their little angel in a private hospital in Chennai on May 5. An elated Dulquer himself shared the news with fans and well wishers through his official Facebook page.

The couple have named their daughter as Maryam Ameerah Salmaan. In a recent post in Instagram, Dulquer shared a baby socks image and wrote, “Tiny in my hand, big on her feet.”

Seems like the actor is clearly enjoying fatherhood. Earlier, he was upset after fake photos claiming to be his daughter’s were doing the rounds in social medias. He urged all his well wishers not to spread such photos and requested everyone to respect their privacy.

On the work front, Dulquer’s last release CIA aka Comrade In America continues to do decent business in the box office. He was last seen shooting for the final schedule of his upcoming bilingual Solo, directed by Bejoy Nambiar.

Dulquer will next join the sets of debutant Salam Bukhari’s commercial entertainer. He has also committed for Lal Jose- Unni R team’s Oru Bhayankara Kamukan and a mass entertainer with Pulimurugan director Vysakh.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal continues it’s box office hunt in China

Aamir Khan’s Dangal continues to do extraordinary business in the Chinese box office. The movie was released on May 5 in China in over 9000 screens all over the country. Dangal was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese. It opened to overwhelming response from the audience there.

According to latest reports, this Nitish Tiwari directorial has become the top grossing non-Hollywood film in China by earning $117 million at the box office. It has also emerged as the highest grosser at the overseas box office among Indian films.

China’s popular ticketing website Maoyan confirmed the news. EntGroup, a leading entertainment consultancy group, also reported that the tickets sales of Dangal have crossed 806 million yuan. Aamir Khan enjoys a huge fan base in China as his film PK had also crossed the 100 crore mark in the country.

Dangal has also entered the 1500 crore club, only the second Indian film to do so after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. As per latest figures from trade sources, Dangal has earned Rs 1743 crore worldwide.

Shah Rukh Khan recently started shooting for his upcoming movie with director Aanand L Rai’s upcoming film. The movie has been in the news for a long time after it was revealed that Shah Rukh would be playing a dwarf for the very first in his career.

According to latest reports in Bollywood media, the movie has been titled as Katrina Meri Jaan. Rumours are doing the rounds, that the film is about a small town man who wishes to meet his Bollywood idol. The movie will involve lot of VFX and hence pre- production works were started way back in 2015.

About his look in the film, Shah Rukh is quoted saying to PTI, “My look is very different from Kamal Haasan’s in Appu Raja. We have done the test, we are through with the trailers. We will be releasing it (look) properly. It’s important that the audience accepts our effort.”

Katrina Kaif will be playing one of the female leads and she will appear as herself as a Bollywood celebrity. Anushka Sharma is playing the other lead. Reportedly, she will be seen as a mentally challenged girl.

This will be SRK and Anushka’s fourth film together. They have previously acted in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and for Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming movie. SRK, Anushka Sharma and Katrina have acted together in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Anand L Rai has previously directed widely acclaimed movies like Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu: Returns. His upcoming movie with SRK is slated for a Christmas 2018 release.

Sachin A Billion Dreams, one of the most anticipated film of this year, was released on May 26 in 2400 screens in India and 400 screens overseas. It opened to great reports from the critics who rated it as an absolute fan for all the Sachin fans.

The film saw an occupancy rate of 80% in most multiplexes across the country. Trade experts report it to be a fairly good number for a working day like Friday.

Sachin A Billion Dreams has managed to do a business of Rs 8.40 crores on it’s first day at the Indian box office. This is a collective figure from all five languages (Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, English) in which the movie was released.

India’s leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted,

“Considering it’s a docu-drama,#SachinABillionDreams opens IMPRESSIVELY… Fri ₹ 8.40 cr. India biz [Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, English]”

Sachin: A Billion Dreams is written and directed by British filmmaker James Erskine. Ravi Bhagchandka and Carnival Motion Pictures have produced this film under the banner of 200 NotOut Productions. Acadmey Award winner AR Rahman has composed the music.

Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a docu-drama that showcase the journey of the legend from a kid to the world’s best cricketer. Apart from Sachin’s cricket and personal, it also revelas certain unknown aspects of his life.

For the past few month, there have been several reports about legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam teaming up with Telugu star Ram Charan. However, the project could not be materialized and the director went on to work with Karthi for Kaatru Veliyidai. The movie could not live up to the expectations and failed at the box office.

Post the release of Kaatru Veliyidai, talks are once again rife about the Ram Charan project. Reportedly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been approached to play the female lead in this movie.

The Bollywood diva shares a great rapport with Mani Ratnam. In fact, she made her tinsel town debut with the director’s political drama Iruvar in 1997 alongside superstar Mohanlal. She last worked with Mani Ratanam in the 2010 bilingual Raavan, which also had Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram in the lead roles.

Earlier, Ram Charan himself had revealed about his plans to work with Mani Ratnam. Apparently, the director had adviced Ram Charan to change his onscreen image and reinvent himself as an actor. That inspired the actor to take up Dhruva, which was the remake of superhit Tamil movie Thani Oruvan.

SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion continues to mint big bucks at the box office. The movie, released on April 28 has already earned Rs 1253 crores from the Indian box office form all four languages (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam) across India.

The movie recently went past the Rs 1500 crore mark in the worldwide box office. The Hindi version of Baahubali 2 has been doing some tremendous business at box-office. The first week collections amounted to a whopping Rs 246.47 crore, followed by Rs 142.52 crore in it’s second week and Rs 67.25 crore in it’s third week.
