Baahubali is unshaken; Godha and Adventures Of Omanakuttan doing good business

Kerala box office is still ruled by SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The movie released on April 28, continues to attract audience in large numbers. It has already grossed over Rs 50 crores from the state, becoming the highest grossing non-Malayalam movie ever in Kerala. Despite the release of a slew of movies like Dulquer Salmaan’s CIA, Ramante Edanthottam, Tovino Thomas starrer Godha and Achayans, Baahubali 2 has managed to hold steady.

Last Firday, three Malayalam movies hit were released; Godha, Adventures Of Omanakuttan and Achayans. Out of the three, Godha opened to excellent response from all the centres. The movie garnered critical appreciation as well as approval from the audience. Godha is written by Rakesh Mantodi and directed by Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph. The movie stars Tovino Thomas, Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker in the lead roles. Godha is a fun filled entertainer and has hence found the liking of the family audience.

Asif Ali’s Adventures Of Omanakuttan had a very low profile release. The movie barely had any hype or promotions. Much like Asif Ali’s previous few movies, Adventures Of Omanakuttan also opened to decent reports but failed to bring the audience to theatres. A comment from director Rohit VS and an emotional live video from Asif Ali changed the movie’s fortune quickly. There is a strong campaign for the movie in social medias and that has reflected on the audience count in theatres. Adventures Of Omanakuttan has gradually started to pick up at the box office.

Kannan Thamarakulam’s Achayans featured Jayaram, Unni Mukundan, Amala Paul, Anu Sithara and Prakash in the lead roles. The movie, written by noted scenarist Sethu has failed to make an impact on the box office. Critics have also panned the movie for it’s lacklustre making and outdated writing.

The boy who played Tilakan’s younger part in Ustad Hotel will be next seen alongside Mohanlal in Velipadinte Pusthakam

Anwar Rasheed’s Usthad Hotel is one of the finest Malayalam movies of the decade. The movie written by Anjali Menon was about a strong emotional bond between Kareemka and his grandson Faizi. Ustad Hotel had a strong message about food and it’s role in basic sustenance.

Apart from being a socially committed film, Ustad Hotel had it’s share of fun and romance. One of the best moments of the film is when Kareemka narrates his love story to Faizi over a cup of Sulaimani.

The entire story is told in a matter of 5 minutes through the beautiful song ‘Vaathil aa Vaathil’. The actor who played Tilakan’s younger part caught the attention of the audience as he had striking resemblance with the veteran actor. Even after so many years, director Anwar Rasheed is appreciated for his superb choice of casting.

Tilakan’a younger part was played by Jagan Reju. After Ustad Hotel, he was away from the industry. Now he is making a comeback through Lal Jose’s upcoming movie Velipadinte Pusthakam starring Mohanlal in the lead role.

Jagan Reju is playing the role of a college student in this movie, which is said to be campus based entertainer. Mohanlal is playing the role of professor Mathew Idicula, a college vice principal.

Velipadinte Pusthakam written by Benny P Nayarambalam is said to be about the relationship between teachers and students. Angamaly Diaries fame Anna Reshma Rajan will be seen as a professor in the movie.

Anoop Menon, Priyanka Nair, Aanandam fame Arun Kurian, Sarath Kumar and Jude Anthany Joseph are also part of the cast. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this movie.

We wish a great career ahead for Jagan Reju.

Baahubali continues to top the headlines with it’s record breaking business all across the globe. The movie has taken Indian cinema to a whole new level and the box office returns from overseas is a testimony to that.

All the actors, especially Prabhas and Rana Daggubati worked hard for Baahubali and this success is a reward for their efforts. Prabhas in a recent interview said he could easily dedicate several years for Rajamouli’s film. “For Rajamouli, I would have even spent more than four years on Baahubali. I would have been ready to dedicate even seven years for him on the project. It was physically strenuous, especially while working on action sequences in the first part. In the second part, Rajamouli edited the action scenes in a way that he made the whole process very easy.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has shattered all previous box office records in India and international markets. According to reports from trade analysts, the movie has grossed more than Rs 1,565 crores from the box office worldwide. Sasikala Teacher’s threat against Mahabharata is a cover-up for Bullet Swami’s rape attempt

Sasikala Teacher’s threat against Mahabharata is a cover-up for Bullet Swami’s rape attempt

Recently, a 23 year old law student from Trivandrum gained national attention after she chopped off her rapist’s genitals. The woman was attacked by a 54-year-old man, who had claimed to her family to be a religious guru.

Ganeshananda Theerthapada alias Srihari, a self-proclaimed god man, had been assaulting the woman for for several years. Her parents blindly trusted the Swami, and he used to get frequent invites to perform special ceremonies and stay over at their house, where he assaulted her. The girl has been getting support from all the corners for showing the courage to act against the rapist.

The incident brought embarrassment to the BJP as TV channels and social medias are flooded with videos of the accused sitting with party state president Kummanam Rajasekharan. He was also in the forefront of many agitations involving fringe Hindu outfits.

Distancing BJP from the incident, Kummanam Rajashekharan said, “I attended many functions with sanyasis. It doesn’t mean all of them are connected with BJP. We favour strong action against him.”

However, that has not pacified the outpour against them in social medias. Many believe that Hindu Aikya Vedi chairperson KP Sasikala’s threat against The Mahabharata, was an attempt to cover-up the rape issue.

KP Sasikala recently had said that they will not allow the release of the upcoming movie The Mahabharata. The movie is the official adaptation of legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel Randamoozham, which in turn is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha.

The movie is the official adaptation of legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel Randamoozham, which in turn is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha.

According to Sasikala, Randamoozham is a novel that distorted the writings in the Hindu epic Mahabharatha and hence the movie adaptation of the novel should not be titled as The Mahabharata. She warned that if the makers did not change the movie’s title, the Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedi would not allow it’s release.

A section of social media users see this as a well conspired attempt to divert the attention from the swamy’s rape case. It is also alleged that the pro-Hindu outfits have blinded the medias with big bucks to squash the issue by giving less coverage.
