Baahuabli is now the pride of Indian cinema. The sequel to this epic fantasy action saga has scripted history by becoming the first Indian movie to touch the 1000 crore mark. The lead cast of this series- Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj are now hugely popular across the country.

But not many know that the director had some other actors in mind before finalizing the above mentioned cast. Popular yesteryear actress Sridevi was initally approached to play Sivagami’s role but she declined the offer as she was busy shooting for the fantasy movie Puli during that time.

Similarly, there are reports that Rajamouli initially had Nayanthara in mind to play Devasena’s role. However the actress could not afford months from her busy schedule as she was caught up with multiple projects at that time.

Devasena is one of the strongest female characters ever in Indian cinema. She is a fearless and righteous princess who does not mince her words for what she feels is right. Devasena is also so beautiful that both the brothers Bhallaladeva and Baahubali fall for her at the very first sight.

Anushka Shetty delivered a brilliant performance as Devasena staking her claim as one of the best actresses in Indian cinema. However, it would have been interesting to see how Nayanthara played the role of Devasena. She is equally talented and gorgeous as Anushka Shetty. Unfortunately, the actress has missed out a golden opportunity to be part of Indian cinema’s biggest ever blockbuster.

While the Baahubali storm is sweeping the country, the one question that is asked by many is will there will be a continuation to the series. Director SS Rajamouli has mentioned it several times that the movie will end in two parts but the world of Baahubali will continue through comics and video games.

Recently, when asked about the possibility of a third part, Rajamouli said that he will make one but only of there is a great story to tell. He is aware that the bussiness prospects is very high but he is least interested in making a movie just keeping the commercial benefits in mind. He believes that there will be not sincerity in making a movie just for the sake of business.

Meanwhile, Baahuabli 2: The Conclusion has created history by becoming the first Indian movie to cross the Rs 1000 crore mark. Releasing on April 28, the movie shattered all pre-existing box office records of an Indian movie. It became the fastest Indian film to cross the Rs 500 crore mark before toppling Aamir Khan’s PK to become the highest grossing Indian movie of all time.

Mammootty’s Peranbu gearing up for release

Mammootty’s much awaited movie Peranbu is finally gearing up for release. The movie, directed by Ram is a bilingual and will be released in Tamil and Malayalam. The actor is returning back to Kollywood after a long gap and talks within the industry is that the actor has given a sterling performance that has the potential to sweep several top awards.

Peranbu was in the news after it was announced that transgender artist Anjali Ameer will be seen as the female lead opposite Mammootty. Mammootty is playing the role of Amuthan in Peranbu. The movie also stars Sarath Kumar, Kaniha and Suraj Venjaramoodu in pivotal characters. Thanga Meengal fame Baby Sadhana will be seen as Mammootty’s daughter in the movie.

Director Ram earlier in an interview revealed that he waited for years to get Mammootty’s dates because he felt that apart from him, no one else could do justice that character. It is said that Mammootty’s character Amuthan in the movie has the potential for yet another National award if the jury does not turn a blind eye towards him as has the case been for many deserving performances in recent years.

The actor has also pinned high hopes on this movie. Interestingly, it was Mammootty who insisted that the movie should also be dubbed in Malayalam as he felt that the movie had an universal theme that will appeal to the Malayali audience as well.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music for Peranbu while National award winner Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The movie is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, released on April 28 has smashed several box office records. It is now the highest grossing Indian movie as well as the first ever Indian movie to cross the 1000 crore mark.

The movie has also become third highest weekend grosser in Bollywood. It was reported by the world’s leading news channel BBC News.

The leading international television channel confirmed that Baahubali 2 is placed third at the USA box office in its opening weekend. They also added that the film has managed to get a place in the top 10 rankings at the UK box office.

The SS Rajamouli directorial surpassed the lifetime collections of Aamir Khan’s PK (792 Cr) from it’s 10 days theatrical run. By toppling Aamir Khan’s PK, Baahuabli 2 the highest grossing became movie ever.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was released simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam languages. It was released in over 9000 theatres worldwide and opened to phenomenal response. The movie’s Hindi version alone has grossed around Rs 375 crore in 6 days.

Dhanush, apart from be an incredible actor has tried his hand at various other departments like playback singing, lyric writing, production, screenwriting and more recently he turned an independent director with Power Pandi. The actor is now trying to spread his wings to Mollywood by producing Tovino Thomas’s upcoming movie.

This yet to be titled movie will be directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. Dominic Arun has previously made the noir short film Mrithyumjayam and has also worked on the screenplay of Style starring Unni Mukundan and Tovino Thomas.

Wunderbar Films has previously produced many acclaimed movies like Visaranai, Kaaka Muttai and commercial blockbusters like Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Ethir Neechal and Vellai Illa Pattadhari (VIP). He is also funding superstar Rajinikanth’s next movie with Kabali director Pa Ranjith.

The Tovino starrer is said to be a black comedy with the actor playing the role of a policeman. It is not a typical police character. He is playing the role of Padmanabhan, a funny cop who is always accompanied by Balu Varghese’s character Joy who is also suspended from the police force.

Newcomer Neha Iyer and Santhy Balachandran are playing the female leads in this movie. Veteran actor Manoj K Jayan, Dileesh Pothen, Alencier Ley Lopez, Shammy Thilakan and Vijayaraghavan are also part of the cast. Shoot for the movie has already commenced.

Clash of the Big Ms is one thing that the Malayali audience eagerly look forward to every year. Last time they locked horns were during the Vishu season when The Great Father and 1971 Beyond Borders hit screens within a week’s gap. While the former struck gold in the box office, the Mohanlal starrer ended up as a box office failure.

The latest we hear is that Mohanlal and Mammootty will be clashing again this year during the Onam season. Mohanlal is teaming up with Lal Jose after years of speculation while Mammootty is working on Rajadhiraja fame Ajai Vasudev’s mass entertainer.

Another interesting bit is that both of them will be seen as faculty members in the upcoming movies. While Mohanlal will essaying the role of a college principal Mammootty will be seen as a strict and tough college professor in the Ajai Vasudev directorial.

Expectations are high on both the projects. Mohanlal- Lal Jose movie is scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam and funded by the superstar’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas.

Mammootty’s movie is scripted by Udhayakrishna, who is fresh from the historic success of Pulimurugan. The movie has an ensemble star cast that includes Unni Mukundan, Gokul Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Poonam Bajwa, Mahima Nambiar and many others. Royal Cinemas, a new production house owned by CH Muhammed will be funding this movie.

So, a mouthwatering clash of the Big Ms awaits us this Onam. Fingers crossed for both!

Prabhas is now a nation wide sensation after the historic success of the Baahubali series. The sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has scripted history by becoming the first ever Indian movie to collect Rs 1000 crores. The phenomenal success of Baahubali has made Prabhas a household name in India.

The actor devoted five solid years of his life to play the role of Baahubali. He worked hard for years to develop a warrior’s physique, underwent training in fights, horse riding, sword fights, archery etc. Prabhas stood by SS Rajamouli for five long years and breathed life into the director’s vision.

The actor took to social media to express his gratitude to the audience for making Baahubali such a huge success. He also thanked director Rajamouli for offering him a once in a lifetime character. Prabhas wrote on his Facebook page,

We had earlier told you that Indrajith will be playing one of the leads in Dhuruvangal 16 fame Karthick Naren’s next movie titled as Naragasooran. The movie has three major leads, Aravind Swamy and Indrajith have already been roped in while the third actor is yet to be confirmed.

Naragasooran will be Indrajith’s second Tamil movie after he made his debut in 2009 through Sarvam. The actor had earlier revealed that many Tamil filmmakers have been approaching him but he was waiting for the right movie.

In a recent interview, Indrajith revealed that he was talks in Karthick Naren for some time now. The actor was first told the one liner and later the director sent him a full bound script. Indrajith said he was bowled over by the script and went on to add that it’s the best that has come across in the recent past.

Naragasooran will be co- produced by acclaimed filmmaker Gautham Menon under his banner Ondraga Entertainment. The director offered to produce this movie after being impressed with Karthick Naren’s debut work Dhuruvangal 16. Naragasooran is scheduled to start rolling in August this year.

Meanwhile, Indrajith’s latest release Lakhsyam has opened to good reports from the critics. His much awaited movie Tiyaan, also starring Prithviraj and Murali Gopy is scheduled to hit screens for this Eid.

Kerala Box Office : CIA Collection Report 2 Days

After months of awaiting, Dulquer Salmaan- Amal Neerad duo’s CIA aka Comrade In America was finally released last Friday (May 5). The movie opened to great response from the audience even amidst the Baahubali storm that has swept Kerala.

Though the reviews from critics were mixed, Dulquer Salmaan’s huge fan base ensured that the movie had a huge opening. On the first day, CIA grossed Rs 3.09 crores from the Kerala box office. The net value is amounted to Rs 2.48 crores with Rs 1.46 crores amounting as the producer’s share.

On the second day, CIA has grossed Rs 2.89 crores from the Kerala box office. Net amount is Rs 2.31 crores and the producer’s share is amounted to Rs 1.34 crores. Thus the sum total gross collections of CIA from the first two days in Kerala is Rs 5.98 crores.

CIA, written by Shibin Francis of Paavada fame is about a left supporting youngster’s journey through adverse conditions to the US for his love. Dulquer Salmaan played the role of Aji Mathew and his screen presence saved the movie from falling flat at low points. Debutante Karthika Muraleedharan played the female lead while Siddique, Jinu John, John Vijay, Soubin Shahir and Dileesh Pothen have essayed other supporting characters.

CIA is funded by the director’s own Amal Neerad Productions.

Nivin Pauly’s first release of the year Sakhavu continues to do average business in the box office after three weeks of it’s release. The movie, directed by award winning filmmaker Sidharth Siva is a political drama featuring Nivin Pauly in a dual role.

Sakhavu opened to positive reviews from the critics and common audience but unfortunately failed to cash in big on the Vishu holidays. According to latest reports from trade sources, Sakhavu has managed to gross Rs 12.10 crores from the Kerala box office. Unlike Nivin Pauly’s last few movies, Sakhavu has not had a great impact in the box office.

The actor enjoys a huge popularity outside Kerala and that has reflected on the box office returns of his previous few movies. However, Sakhavu did not have that kind of reception. The movie is centred around communism and it’s ideologies, which appeals majorly to the Malayali audience. Also, the massive release of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in Kerala has affected Sakhavu’s prospects at the box office.

Nivin has essayed a dual role in the movie and his performance as Sakhavu Krishnan was widely appreciated. Critics rated it as his career best performance. Sakhavu also stars Aishwarya Rajesh, Aparna Gopinath, Gayathri Suresh, Sudheesh, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Sreenivasan, Binu Pappu and Baiju in pivotal roles. The movie was produced by B Rakesh under the banner Universal Cinema.
