Shafi planning to direct Mohanlal?

According to latest reports from our sources within the industry, superhit filmmaker Shafi is planning to direct a movie with Mohanlal in the lead. The director has been in talks with Mohanlal for sometime now but things could not materialize. However, it seems like the much awaited union will happen this time.

Shafi is a self confessed fan of Mohanlal and Mammootty. It was his dream to make movies with the superstars who attracted him to the world of cinema. Shafi has worked with Mammootty four times in his career- Thommanum Makkalum, Mayavi, Chattambinadu and Venicile Vyapari. And it finally looks like things are falling in place for a Mohanlal starrer.

Shafi is known for dishing out quality commercial entertainers with prominence to humour. Some of his movies like Pulivaal Kalyanam, Kalyanaraman, One Man Show, Marykkundoru Kunjaadu etc are still a favourite for audience who like to laugh their hearts out. His movie with Mohanlal is also expected to be an out and out comedy entertainer.

We are still waiting for an official confirmation regarding the teaming up of Mohanlal and Shafi. The superstar meanwhile has committed for multiple projects. He is yet to finish shooting for the final schedule of B Unnikrishnan’s Villain.

This year Mohanlal will also be working on Lal Jose’s untitled movie and Shrikumar Menon’s big budget fantasy movie Odiyan. A Shaji Kailas- Renji Panicker film, Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer and the magnum opus The Mahabharata are the other movies in Mohanlal’s kitty.

Dhanush to share screen space with Rajinikanth

Actor Dhanush had earlier officially announced that his Wunderbar Films will be producing his father-in-law superstar Rajinikanth’s next movie with Pa Ranjith. The duo had teamed up last year for the blockbuster Kabali. The upcoming movie which happens to be the superstar’s 161th film will start rolling on May 28 this year.

An interesting bit of information that is coming in from Kollywood media circles is that Dhanush will be playing a small cameo in the movie. If the reports are true, this is the first time he will sharing screen space with Rajinikanth.

The yet to be titled movie is said to be a socially relevant mass entertainer. The team is erecting a huge set in Chennai that resembles the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai. Santhosh Narayanan has been roped in to handle the music department. More details regarding the project will be announced in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is currently in the final leg of shoot for 2.0, the much awaited sequel to Enthiran. This Shankar directorial also stars Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in major roles. 2.0 is scheduled to hit screens for Pongal next year.

Dhanush is also busy with multiple projects. He has wrapped up for his portions for Gautham Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta. He is currently shooting for Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 and has also signed for Vetrimaran’s upcoming gangster saga Vada Chennai.

The Baahubali series has ended with the recently sequel but as director SS Rajamouli said, the world of Mahishmathi and it’s characters will continue in various other forms. As a first step to that, the story of Devasena is being made as a television serial in Hindi.

Devasena is one of the strongest female characters ever in Indian cinema. She is a fearless and righteous princess who speaks up in front of anyone about what she feels is right. Anushka Shetty has won a lot of appreciation for her brilliant performance as Devasena.

But Anushka is not part of the serial which is titled as Aarambh. South Indian actress of Malayali origin, Karthika Nair will be reprising the role in mini screen. She is noted for her perfomance in movies like Dammu, Ko, Makaramanju etc.

Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, who is also Rajamouli’s father is scripting this serial. Former Mr India Rajneish Duggal will be reprising Baahubali’s role but his character in the show is named as Varun Dev. Veteran bollywood actress Tanuja plays Sivagami, which is Ramya Krishnan’s role from Baahuabli.

Aarambh will be aired in Star Plus. The timing and slot of the show has not yet been released. The show is produced by Rose Audio Visuals and will start airing this year.

Now that Baahubali has scripted history by becoming the first ever Indian movie to cross the 1000 crore mark, filmmakers across India have a huge benchmark to try and breach. The performance of a South Indian movie with regional actors has shaken the Bollywood hotshots including the Khans.

The latest we hear is that Shah Rukh Khan is coming up with something bigger than Baahubali. Reports are coming in from Bollywood media that the actor’s home production banner Red Chillies Entertainment are planning a huge project based on a phenomenal achievement of the Indian Army.

There are reports that the movie will be based on Operation Khukri and research works have already been started for the same. Operation Khukri is one of the golden achievements of the Indian paramilitary forces that deserves to be brought on big screen.

The makers are planning it on a huge budget and will be shot extensively in real locations in Africa. It will be a celebration of the unsung heroes of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. This will reportedly be the most expensive Bollywood movie ever.

More details regarding the cast and crew have not been disclosed yet. There is also no word on whether SRK will play the lead role. The actor has played the role of an army man in movies like Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Main Hoon Na. Patriotic films have always had a place in the hearts of Indian cinema audience. Let’s hope that Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming production will also turn into a huge blockbuster.

Biju Menon-Indrajith team’s Lakshyam was released on May 6 to mixed reviews from the critics. The movie, directed by debutant Anzar Khan is penned by Jeethu Joseph.

According to reports from trade sources, Lakshyam has managed to gross Rs 42 lakhs from the Kerala box office. It is an average first day gross considering the fact that the movie was released without much hype amid biggies like Baahubali and CIA.

Jeethu Joseph’s script is based on director Anzar Khan’s tele film Mukhamaukham. The movie revolves around the two convicts who escape while being transported from Peermade to Ernakulam. Shivada Nair played the role of Indrajith’s romantic interest in the movie. Shammi Thilakan and Kishore Sathya are also part of the cast.

Dulquer Salmaan’s second release of the year CIA aka Comrade In America was released last Friday to great reception from the audience. The movie directed by Amal Neerad was long awaited by the Malayali audience.

Though the reviews from critics were mixed, Dulquer Salmaan’s huge fan base ensured that the movie had a huge opening. On the first day, CIA grossed Rs 3.09 crores from the Kerala box office alone. On the second day, it grossed Rs 2.89 crores from the Kerala box office.

According to latest reports from trade sources, CIA has grossed Rs 1.72 crores on the third day taking the total gross from the first three days to Rs 7.70 crores. The mixed reviews and Baahubali storm has affected CIA’s business considerably.

CIA, written by Pavaada fame Shibin Francis is about an young comrade’s journey through adverse conditions to the US in pursuit his love. Debutante Karthika Muraleedharan played the female lead in the movie. Siddique, Jinu John, John Vijay, Soubin Shahir and Dileesh Pothen have essayed other supporting characters.

CIA is funded by the director’s own production house Amal Neerad Productions.

It seems like there is no stopping Indian movies in the worldwide box office. After the turn of Baahubali, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has now taken the China box office by storm.

Last year’s biggest blockbuster and the third all time highest grosser in Indian cinema, Dangal was released on Friday in China. The movie has raked in a whopping Rs 72.6 8 crores from the opening weekend in China.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh informed the same through his Twitter account,

“#Dangal hits the ball out of the park… Collects a FANTABULOUS $ 11.30 million [₹ 72.68 cr] in its opening weekend in China… OUTSTANDING!”

Dangal was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle, Father in Chinese. The movie was also screened at the Beijing Film Festival this year. Aamir Khan even made an appearance in the country before the film’s release.

Hollywood was also shocked by Dangal’s performance in China as it collided with the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Variety wrote,

“Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2” scored a comfortable opening weekend win at the China box office. The greater surprise was the strength of Aamir Khan-starring Indian film Dangal.”

Dangal is inspired from the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to world class players in the sport. Aamir Khan essayed Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character while Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar portrayed his daughter’s roles.

The movie, directed by Nitish Tiwari, created waves in the box office and raked in hundreds of crores worldwide. The movie is reported to have done a worldwide business of more than 700 crores.

Baahubali is the current talk in Indian cinema. The sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is doing humongous business, the kind which is unprecedented for an Indian movie. Within 10 days of it’s release, it has crossed the 1000 crore mark in the worldwide box office. SS Rajamouli’s action epic saga is widely regarded the pride of Indian cinema.

The lead actors Prabhas and Rana Daggubati breathed life into Rajamouli’s vision. The former kept aside almost five years for this one of a kind movie. But not many know that Rajamouli wanted two Bollywood stars for the Hindi version of the movie.

It is reported that the director wanted to cast John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan to essay the lead roles. The basic plot of Baahubali is the rivalry between two brothers- Mahendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva. Baahubali is a do-gooder and the favorite of the Mahishmati natives while Bhallaladeva is evil and tries all possible ways to become the kingdom’s emperor. Rest of the plot revolves around these two central characters.

Both Baahubali and Bhallaladeva are hugely strong warriors. Hence it is evident why Rajamouli wanted John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan to portray the lead roles in the Hindi version. Unfortunately, both the actors turned down the offers as they were not ready to allot months for a single project.

Rajamouli later decided against the idea of making a separate Hindi version and instead released a dubbed version. He collaborated with Karan Johar for the distribution of the Hindi version. That proved to be a masterstroke as the sequel’s Hindi version alone has become a massive blockbuster raking in more than 300 crores from the worldwide box office.

Prabhas and Rana Daggubati are now hugely popular faces across the country thanks to the massive success of Baahubali. If the reports are true, Hrithik and John Abraham will be repenting their decision to turn down the offer to be part of Indian cinema’s biggest ever blockbuster.

However, director B Unnikrishnan is not at all happy with such discussions and he has come out bursting against them. Mollywood’s young sensation Dulquer Salmaan and his better half Amaal Sufiya recently became proud parents to a baby girl. Amaal gave birth to the baby girl in a private hospital in Chennai. An elated Dulquer himself shared the news with fans and well wishers through his official Facebook page.

As soon as he announced the arrival of his princess, social medias was flooded with congratulatory posts to the couple and to Mammootty for becoming a grandfather again.
