Here’s how Baahubali is being dumped deliberately in the US

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is creating waves not only in the domestic box office. The movie has shattered several records overseas and is still going strong.

Baahubali 2 has achieved where no other Indian films have gone till date. It went right to the top of charts of the US box office records. Popular US based media group, Wall Street Journal called it India’s Stars Wars and is wondering how an Indian superhero film defeated Hollywood competitors at the box office. This SS Rajamouli directorial had had the the third largest opening for a foreign language film in US history.

US medias are absolutely shocked the phenomenal perfomance of Baahubali 2. It is now at the third place in the list only behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and The Fate of the Furious. But even after grossing over $16 million at US box office, the film has not received much of an attention from the foreign audience.

Non-Indian critics on Yahoo or Rotten Tomatoes have not yet reviewed the movie. Interestingly, on Rotten Tomatoes, Baahubali 2 had a 92% audience score and still no rating from critics. While two foreign organisations gave rating to the film, it was still not enough to get it overall critic rating. Eventhough, the movie had a massive success on IMAX, it got replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the very next week on almost all the screens.

False reports about Mammootty teaming up with SS Rajamouli

Recently, social medias were abuzz with reports about Mammootty teaming with Baahubali director SS Rajamouli for a big budget movie. The reports spread like wildfire and there were discussions regarding the same in several platforms.

However, when we contacted sources close to the megastar we get to know that all these reports were blatantly false. People with some sort of wild imagination are coming up with such news. It was not long ago when there were similar reports about August Cinemas funding a big budget movie, Kunjali Marikkar with Mammootty in the lead. When we contacted Shaji Nadesan, one of the owners of August Cinemas, he told us that there were a few discussions but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Mammootty currently has multiple projects in his kitty. He is shooting simultaneously for 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s movie, Shamdat’s bilingual Streetlights and Ajai Vasudev- Udhayakrishna duo’s mass entertainer. His much awaited Tamil- Malayalam bilingual movie Peranbu, directed by National award winner Ram is expected to hit screens next month.

Vijay-Atlee film inspired from Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s movies?

Vijay-Atlee film inspired from Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s movies?

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s upcoming movie with director Atlee is highly anticipated by the audience for many reasons. Some of them are- Vijay’s teaming up with Atlee after the all time blockbuster Theri, him playing a triple role for the first time in his career, Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad’s story, the massive star cast and AR Rahman’s music.

Atlee is known for churning out clean commercial entertainers out of wafer thin plots. His first two movies Raja Rani and Theri were conspicuously inspired from Mani Ratnam’s Mouna Ragam and Sathriyan (scripted by him).

The latest we hear is that the upcoming Atlee-Vijay movie is also inspired from two yesteryear blockbusters namely, Rajinikanth’s Moondru Mugam and Kamal Haasan’s Apoorva Sagodharargal.

According to the reports, the basic premise is similar to the above mentioned movies where two sons take revenge for their father’s death. But the characterization of all three roles will be very unique. Vijay will be seen sporting multiple looks in the movie.

This yet to be titled movie stars three female leads in Nithya Menen, Kajal Agarwal and Samantha. Nithya Menen’s portions are set in the 80s as she is playing dad Vijay’s pair. The other two actresses will be seen pairing opposite the two sons.

Filmmaker turned actor SJ Suryah plays the villain in this movie tentatively titled as Vijay 61. Sathyaraj, Sathyan, Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala are also part of the cast. The movie is produced by Sri Thenandal Films.

Fahadh Faasil lent his voice for Che Guevara in CIA

Fahadh Faasil lent his voice for Che Guevara in CIA

Dulquer Salmaan’s CIA is getting good response from the audience eventhough the critic reviews are mostly mixed. This Amal Neerad directorial is about Aji Mathew, an young comrade who travels to the US without VISA in pursuit of his love.

The movie’s initial half has an interesting sequence where an inebriated Aji Mathew is seen talking with revolutionary communist leaders Che Guevara, Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx. Aji opens up about his romance with Sarah and the need for him to go to the US.

Amal Neerad has done a fantastic job with the casting for all the three leaders. Che Guevara’s role is played by Sumit Naval, who has earlier worked with the director in Big B and Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded. The voice for Che’s character in the movie is lent by than none other Fahadh Faasil.

Fahadh and Amal Neerad have previously worked together in Iyobinte Pusthakam. In 2013, Anwar Rasheed directed the segment Aami in 5 Sundharikal, an anthology of five movies. Fahadh played the central character and Amal Neerad was the DOP in Aami.

Incidentally, Amal Neerad is also cranking the camera for Fahadh’s upcoming big budget movie with Anwar Rasheed. The duo share a great camaraderie with each other and that’s why the director could rope in Fahadh to lend his powerful voice for Che Guevara’s character in CIA.

There’s a reason behind why Bollywood can never make a movie like Baahubali

There’s a reason behind why Bollywood can never make a movie like Baahubali

Baahubali has scripted a new history in Indian cinema. The movie has successfully broken the popular belief that Indian cinema is nothing but Bollywood. A regional cinema has now become the highest grossing Indian movie of all time and it has become a talk even in the international platforms.

Even when Baahubali has proved that a success of such massive proportions is possible, there are still speculations about whether a movie like this can be made in Indian cinema’s biggest film industry, Bollywood.

National award winner PM Satheesh, the sound designer of Baahubali is of the opinion that Bollywood can never make such a movie. The reason he feels is that Bollywood doesn’t have proper discipline. According to him, in Bollywood, if a movie is made on a Rs 600 crore budget only 100 crores will be spent as production cost, rest will be eaten up by the stars and other associated people. Whereas in Baahubali, every single money has gone into the production and the quality is there to be seen.

PM Satheesh adds that people in Bollywood will never spend that kind of money for the quality. While working for Baahubali, the technical team could ask for anything. If they are able to logically and rationally explain the need for such an equipment, the production team will get that done. But in Bollywood, they had to struggle hard to convince them even for the basics.

Why Drishyam’s first half had lags, Jeethu Joseph explains

Why Drishyam’s first half had lags, Jeethu Joseph explains

If we take a list of the ten best thrillers that were released in the past decade or so in Indian cinema, Malayalam’s Drishyam will certainly be one among them. From the outset it might look like a plain family drama but it’s an edge of a seat thriller that keeps the audience guessing till the moment Mohanlal comes out of the police station.

Drishyam was the story of Georgekutty and his family. At a particular point, the family comes face to face with a situation that can ruin all their lives, how they get themselves out of it forms the crux of the story. The movie’s initial half revolved around the family and their day to day lives. But many complained that those portions it was too slow.

The movie’s director Jeethu Joseph in a recent interview opened up why he purposefully used the lags. He wanted to establish the family and their lives slowly so that the audience will root for them when they face a problem. That’s exactly how it turned out to be. Though many people complained that the first half was very lengthy and slow, it was actually the opposite. The initial half was only 1 hour long while the second half had a duration of 1.45 hours.

In the Hindi version of Drishyam, they chopped off a few scenes in the beginning. The crime occurs almost thirty movies into the plot while in the original it took nearly an hour. So many actually felt that the family attachment did not work out properly.

Jeethu Joseph believes that lags are a must in movies but a filmmaker’s talent lies in judging the duration of the lags. He also added that all his movies will have lags but only where he feels it’s necessary.

Drishyam was a massive blockbuster and emerged as the highest grossing Malayalam of all time before Pulimurugan toppled it. The movie was remade in all major Indian languages with Jeethu himself directing the Tamil verison, Papanasam with Kamal Haasan.

Baahubali is now widely regarded as the pride of Indian cinema. The sequel in the series was released recently and has already crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark. It is the first ever Indian movie to achieve the feat.

The first part released in 2015, blew the audience away with it’s magnificent visuals and scale. It had a lot of unanswered questions that kept the audience guessing for almost an year and a half. Apart from the huge scale and CGI, it is the script that is the backbone of the movie.

Prabhas in a recent interview revealed how Rajamouli narrated the idea to him during the shoot of Rebel. The story kept haunting Prabhas for a long time. He believes that the same happened to the audience after the first part’s release. The sequel’s massive success is a testimony to how well the story has captivated the audience.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion hit screens worldwide on April 28. It was released simultaneously in four languages- Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam. The movie has shattered all pre-existing records for an Indian movie to emerge as the highest grossing Indian movie ever.
