Manyam Puli re-released in 100 theatres amidst the Baahubali storm

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, the second and final installment in the Baahubali franchise, has been creating waves all over the country. In the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, almost all the theatres are screening Baahubali 2.

Amidst this storm, the Telugu version of Pulimurugan- Manyam Puli has re-released on May 6. It was a a very ambitious move by the makers to release the movie during this time. Even then they have managed to get 100 odd theatres for Manyam Puli.

The movie had a grand release on Decemeber 2 last year in over 350 theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana states. It was opened to overwhelming response from the Telugu audience and enjoyed a successful theatrical run of over 50 days. According to trade sources, Manyam Puli grossed over Rs 12 crores during it’s inital run from the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana. Latest collection reports after the re-release have not yet been made official.

Pulimurugan released last year is the highest grossing Malayalam movie ever. It had a theatrical run of over 150 days in the state while registering a business close to Rs 160 crores. Directed by Vysakh, this big budget action entertainer was produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam.

Dulquer Salmaan was recently blessed with a baby girl. His wife Amaal Sufiya gave birth to their princess after five years of married life. Wishes have been pouring in for the couple ever since Dulquer shared the happy news with his fans and well wishers through Facebook.

Celebrities like R Madhavan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Priyamani and many others congratulated the couple and showered their love on the new born.

A cute moment of brotherhood happened in Twitter when Baahubali star Rana Daggubati congratulated Dulquer on becoming a father. Mollywood’s young sensation immediately replied back and said he would like to see how tiny his angel would be in comparison to her uncle.

Rana is a self confessed fan of Dulquer and recently went on record about how he enjoyed watching Dulquer’s movies like Ustad Hotel and Bangalore Days.

After Baahubali, Prabhas and Anushka Shetty to work together again

SS Rajamouli’s action epic drama Baahubali is getting humongous response from all over the world. Apart from the massive scale and CGI works, one of the major highlights of the movie was the beautiful chemistry between Amarendra Baahubali and Devasena, played by Prabhas and Anushka Shetty.

The duo have now become one of the favorite on-screen pairs. Their photos from the shooting spots and various other events have been going viral on the internet.

According to latest reports, Anushka and Prabhas will be teaming up once again. Anushka has signed for an upcoming titled as Bhagmati. The movie is being produced by Pramod Uppalapati and V Vamsi Krishna Reddy, who are close friends with Prabhas.

Reportedly, the producers have convinced Prabhas to play a cameo role in Bhagmati, which is touted to be a thriller. Interestingly Malayali actors Jayaram, Unni Mukundan and Asha Sarath are also part of the cast. The movie is slated to hit screens in August this year.

Dulquer Salmaan’s second release of the year CIA aka Comrade In America hit screens last Friday. The movie opened to good response from the audience, largely comprising of Dulquer’s fans.

CIA, directed by Amal Neerad was one of the most awaited films of the year. Though the reviews from critics were mixed, the actor’s huge fan base ensured that the movie had a great opening. On the first day, CIA grossed Rs 3.09 crores from the Kerala box office alone.

On the second and third day, it grossed Rs 2.89 and Rs 1.72 crores respectively. The first three days gross from the Kerala box office alone is amounted to be Rs 7.70 crores.

According to the latest collection reports, CIA has managed to gross around Rs 2.00 crores on the fourth day thus taking the overall gross from the Kerala box office to Rs 9.70 crores. After the tax pay, the net amount is estimated as Rs 7.87 crores while the producer’s share is amounted to be around Rs 4.53 crores.

This is a great opening for CIA considering the mixed reviews and it’s release amidst the Baahubali storm. The gross collections of CIA from Kerala and outside centres is nearing Rs 15 crores.

CIA, written by Pavaada fame Shibin Francis is about an young comrade’s journey through adverse conditions to the US for his girlfriend. Debutante Karthika Muraleedharan played the female lead in the movie. Siddique, John Vijay, Jinu John, Chandini Sreedharan, Soubin Shahir and Dileesh Pothen have essayed other supporting characters.

The movie is bank rolled by the director’s own production house Amal Neerad Productions.

Indian cinema’s latest phenomenon is doing unprecedented business all over the world. The movie has scripted history by becoming the first ever Indian movie to cross the 1000 crore mark. However, the Baahubali team has now found itself in spot of bother after the movie’s pirated copies were released.

The Tamil Nadu police were swift in action and arrested 16 people in Chennai. Along with them, 2100 pirated DVDs of Baahubali 2 were also seized. The action was taken following a complaint filed by Tamil actor Vishal, who is also the president of Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC).

Vishal and the other TFPC members addressed the media and told them about how they had informed the police commissioner about these illegal activities. Apart from Baahubali 2, DVDs of recently released movies like Kavan, Dora and Power Pandi were also seized.

Nowadays, new releases are just a touch away with the latest available features like Torrents and other similar websites. But a major reason for this fast growing illegal activity is the people’s tendency to watch movies free of cost in laptops and mobile phones.

However, there are exceptional movies like Baahubali that deserve a theatrical watch. It is one of it’s kind in Indian cinema, a product of five years of continuous hardwork and perseverance. People who are involved in such business should realize that any movie is a result of sweat and hardwork of hundreds of people and that their greed for more money will affect those people who earn their daily bread from the film industry.

The Baahubali storm is sweeping the box office worldwide. Audience across across the globe are thronging theatres in large numbers to watch this one of a kind Indian movie. Recently, Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan turned up with his family to watch the magnum opus in Mumbai.

It is worth a mention that Baahubali director SS Rajamouli had Hrithik for the Hindi version of the movie. Reportedly, the filmmaker wanted to do a separate Hindi version with John Abraham and Hrithik as the leads. However, it could not materialize as both the actors were busy with their prior commitments and turned down the offer. The director later decided against the idea and instead dubbed it in Hindi.

Hrithik Roshan watched the movie along with his ex-wife Sussanne Khan and their two sons Hrehaan and Hridaan. Eventhough the couple ended their marriage long back in 2014, they still maintain a perfectly hearty relationship.

Priyadarshan, is unarguably one of the greatest filmmakers ever in Malayalam cinema. He has directed around ninety movies in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Some of his movies like Kala Pani, Kanchivaram and more recently Sila Samayangalil have won accolades nationally and internationally.

Despite being such a great filmmaker, Priyadarshan has often been at the receiving end of criticisms for adapting/taking inspirations from foreign movies. The director has remade almost ten blockbuster Malayalam movies in Hindi.

In a recent interview, Priyadarshan was asked about his thoughts on the copy allegations and criticisms. The director said that he is someone who learnt about filmmaking solely by watching movies. So he naturally gets influenced by them. He admits that he was taken inspirations from other movies during the initial stages of his career. But later he consciously tried to move away from that.

He even took the example of yesteryear superhit film Boeing Boeing. The movie starring Mohanlal and Mukesh in the lead roles was actually inspired from a French drama of the same name. Priyadarshan says that the French drama was actually a sex-comedy but he adapted it to a fun entertainer that could be enjoyed even by kids.

Priyadarshan reaffirmed that he does not make movies for intellectuals but for the common audience. He added that even legends like Shakespeare, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and MT Vasudevan Nair have had to face similar criticisms, so he is least bothered about that.

Biju Menon-Indrajith team’s Lakshyam was released on May 6 to mixed reviews from the critics. The movie is directed by debutant Anzar Khan and written by Jeethu Joseph. Jeethu has scripted the film based on director Anzar Khan’s tele film Mukhamaukham.

The movie is about two convicts, played by Biju Menon and Indrajith, who escape while being transported from Peermade to Ernakulam. Shivada Nair has played the role of Indrajith’s romantic interest in the movie. Shammi Thilakan and Kishore Sathya are also part of the cast.

Lakshyam had grossed Rs 42 lakhs on the opening day from the Kerala box office. On the second day, Sunday, the movie has managed to gross around Rs 63 lakhs taking the total collection to Rs 1.05 crores. The increase in collections is great considering the fact that the movie was released without much hype amid biggies like Baahubali and CIA.

Indian cinema’s latest talk, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion continues to do phenomenal business all over the globe. The movie has already collected more than 1000 crores from the box office but is still going strong. It is currently the highest grossing Indian movie ever after toppling Aamir Khan’s PK to seal the top position.

In Kerala, the movie had a terrific opening. Releasing in a whopping 320 screens, the SS Rajamouli directorial registered a new record in the Kerala box office raking in Rs 5.90 crore on the opening day.

According to latest report from trade sources, Baahubali 2 is inching closer to the 50 crore mark from the collections in the Kerala box office alone. It has grossed Rs 39.20 crores from it’s 10 days theatrical run in the state.

Baahubali 2 is unshaken even amid the release of Dulquer Salmaan’s much hyped CIA aka Comrade In America. Many new releases have been postponed due to the Baahubali storm that has swept in Kerala.

Going at this rate, Baahubali 2 will breach the 50 crore mark in Kerala very soon. It is already the highest grossing non- Malayalam movie in Kerala. The movie is distributed by Global United Media. Baahubali The Beginning, the first part in the series was also a massive success in Kerala.
