August Cinemas in a spot of bother as The Great Father pirated version found online

While Mammootty’s latest release The Great Father is continuing it’s successful run in all the release centres, the makers have found themselves in a spot of bother as the movie’s pirated version have been leaked online.

Along with The Great Father, the pirated copies of Sunny Wayne- Midhun Manuel Thomas team’s Alamara and Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai have been leaked by the infamous Tamilrockers team. The movies have been shot with a mobile camera from theatres.

The Tamilrockers team have been a headache for the anti piracy cells for sometime now. Though the website was blocked by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) several times, they used different domain names each time the site got blocked.

The Great Father directed by debutant Haneef Adeni opened to huge numbers in the box office. According to reports from the producers August Cinemas, The Great Father raked in Rs 4.31 crores on the opening day and grossed Rs 20 crores in a record time. The movie had surpassed the opening day figures set by Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan in Kerala.

The huge collection numbers of The Great Father were seen as an indication for the growth of Malayalam film industry. It is a very heinous crime to support piracy and we urge you all to report if you come across any such links.

Aamir Khan was not awarded as he had said that he wouldn’t personally accept the award if he is given one: Priyadarshan

The 64th National Film Awards were announced yesterday. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and Malayali actress Surabhi Lakshmi won the top honours in the acting category. The jury this year was headed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan.

The jury’s decision to overlook potential winners such as Aamir Khan (Dangal), Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Raman Raghav 2.0) and Manoj Bajpai (Aligarh) were questioned by many.

In a recent interview, Priyadarshan was asked about why Akshay was opted over Aamir Khan. The latter’s perfomance and efforts to play an aged wrestler’s role in Dangal was unanimously appreciated. When asked about why Aamir was not a deserving contender for the top honour, Priyadarshan is quoted saying,

Aamir recently said that he wouldn’t personally accept the award if he is given one. If I remember, Aamir didn’t attend the ceremony when he won the award for Taare Zameen Par. So, why spoil it for some other actor who stood as good a chance of winning the award.

Social media users across the country expressed their displeasure over the jury’s choices. Most people felt that Akshay won the award because of his close proximity with Priyadarshan. It must be remembered that the two have worked together on several movies like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiya and Garam Masala.

Kerala Box Office : 1971 Beyond Borders first day collection report

Kerala Box Office : 1971 Beyond Borders first day collection report

Mohanlal – Major Ravi team’s 1971 Beyond Borders was released yesterday. The movie had a mass release in 405 screens all over India, which is the biggest ever for a Malayalam movie.

1971 Beyond Borders is the fourth installment in the Major Mahadevan series and Mohanlal has played a dual role in the film. The movie was opened mostly to negative to mixed reviews from most critics. The word of mouth was also poor from the initial show and that has reflected on the box office figures.

The movie has managed to gross Rs 2.80 crores from the 180 odd screens in Kerala. Considering Mohanlal’s recent blockbuster run, the opening day figures for 1971 Beyond Borders is hugely disappointing. Mohanlal fans had pinned high expectations on this movie.

The makers didn’t invest much on the promotional side and hence the hype surrounding the movie was very minimal. Also the fact that Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s last few movies were failures also worked against this movie.

The film, based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war was made as a big budget movie with a huge star cast. The makers had roped in several actors from other industries to give a pan Indian appeal to the movie. It is produced by Haneef Muhammed under the banner Red Rose Creations.

National awards are biased, says AR Murugadoss

The 64th National Film Awards were announced yesterday. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and Malayali actress Surabhi Lakshmi won the honours in the acting category. Unlike last year, there was a conspicuous presence of regional films in all the major categories.

The jury this year was headed by master filmmaker Priyadarshan. Like every year, this time also the jury has come under a lot of scrutiny for some of their choices. There are allegations that Priyadarshan used his position to honour two of his best friends, Akshay Kumar and Mohanlal with the National awards.

Akshay won the best actor award for his performance in Rustom while Mohanlal won a special jury award for his performance in Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Janatha Garage and Pulimurugan. Though Mohanlal is unarguably one of the best actors the country has ever produced there remains a question over the quality of movies that he was awarded for.

Akshay Kumar winning the best actor award was a real shocker and people all over the country took to social medias to we express their displeasure at the jury’s choice.

Noted Tamil filmmaker AR Murugadoss, who has also made a mark in Bollywood has accused the jury for being biased with the National awards. His tweet reads,

#NationalAwards Can clearly witness the influence & partiality of people in jury, it’s biased

The jury’s decision to snub potential winners such as Aamir Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Manoj Bajpai were questioned by many. Most people felt that Akshay won the award because of his close proximity with Priyadarshan. It must be remembered that the two have worked together on several movies like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiya and Garam Masala.

It was Major Ravi’s second directorial venture after the blockbuster Keerthichakra. Even though the movie was not a commercial success, it is still considered as one of the best works of Major Ravi.

Dhyan Sreenivasan got married to his long time girlfriend Arpitha Sebastian in a private affair at a beach side resort in Kannur on Thursday. It was a simple ceremony without any rituals. They both exchanged garlands and tied the sacred thread(thali) in the presence of close friends and family members.

Arpita, a native of Kottayam, works at a private firm in Trivandrum. Reportedly, Dhyan and Arpita have been in a relationship for a while now. A wedding reception will be arranged for friends and well wishers from the film industry on April 10.

We had also attended the wedding and were in for a surprise when Dhyan’s father actor Sreenivasan informed that the guests will be treated to an organic sadhya. Apparently, the raw materials like rice and vegetables for the sumptuous feast were cultivated in Sreenivasan’s own farm.

The veteran actor has often been vocal about the need for cultivating organic food items and the adverse effects of food adulteration. Most people prefer to talk than to get things done but Sreenivasan chose to show the right way with a noble thought to offer an organic sadhya for his son’s wedding.

Mohanlal is extremely happy about Peter Hein winning the National Award

The jury headed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan announced the 64th National Film Awards yesterday. Unlike last year, regional movies sweeped awards in most of the categories. Malayalam cinema won seven awards including the best actress award.

Superstar Mohanlal was honoured with the Special Jury award for his performance in Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Janatha Garage and Pulimurugan.

Talking to the media after winning the award, Mohanlal said, “I am very happy that commercial movies are also considered for National awards. Though the movies considered for the award included a Telugu movie Janatha Garage, it is a recognition to Malayalam cinema.

Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan also won the award for best stunt choreography for Peter Hein. This is the first time that the jury has included the award for an action choreographer and Mohanlal is elated that Peter Hein won it. He said,

I am extremely happy for Peter Hein in fact happier than him. He got several awards in other languages. He did a great job in Pulimurugan,” Mohanlal said.
