Not only celebrity kids, all those who genuinely love cinema can enter this field: Fahadh Fassil

Celebrity kids following their parents’ footsteps and entering the world of movies is a very common thing from the past itself. The trend has been prevalent in industries like Bollywood from the 70s period itself where the Kapoor clan ruled the roost.

Mollywood also has it’s share of celebrity kids like Prithviraj, Indrajith, Dulquer Salmaan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kalidas Jayaram, Gokul Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, Keerthy Suresh and many others.

But when we look at the other side of the coin, many leading actors also belong to non filmy background like Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Unni Mukundan and many others. They have all traversed the obstacles and reached the pinnacles of success.

Currently, film industries especially Mollywood is open to anyone who has got genuine passion and talent. Fahadh Fassil reiterated the same thing recently in a interview.

He said, “I worked hard for three years before Chaappa Kurishu. I have never used my father’s name to get chances and will not do that in the future also. Cinema is for those who love it. All those who genuinely love this art can enter the industry.”

Fahadh, himslef is an example of someone who has strived hard to reach this level. He was launched in 2002 by his father director Fazil through his movie Kaiyethum Doorath. The movie was a collosal failure and Fahadh was written off by the critics and audience alike. But he made a comeback in 2009. His first solid role after his comeback was in Chaappa Kurishu, released in 2011. Fahadh grabbed the opportunity with both hands and won the Kerala State Award for second best actor for his performance in that movie. After that he was part of several critically and commercially acclaimed movies like Diamond Necklace, Annayum Rasoolum, Amen, Artist, Iyobinte Pusthakam etc.

His latest release Take Off, where he played a brief but prominent role, has been getting rave reviews. Fahadh’s performance as an Indian Ambassador has also won him widespread appreciation.

After a one year gap from Maheshinte Prathikaram, Fahadh Faasil wins over the audience again with Take Off

After a one year gap from Maheshinte Prathikaram, Fahadh Faasil wins over the audience again with Take Off

It’s not that often that you see a leading actor take a one year break, that too right after delivering the biggest success of his career. But Fahadh Faasil did it. He has always been that way, he came back quite stunningly after everyone wrote him off after Kaiyethum Doorath, he broke the stereotypes associated with an actor’s looks and did bold roles that not many of his contemporaries would dare to do (remember 22 Female Kottayam and Chaappa Kurishu).

Fahadh Faasil’s second innings after the forgettable Kaiyethum Doorath, started off slowly with some supporting roles and brief cameos. But he soon shifted gears and showcased his impeccable acting skills through movies like Chaappa Kurishu, Diamond Necklace, 22 Female Kottayam, Annayum Rasoolum, Amen etc. He was soon one of the leading actors of the younger generation and undoubtedly the best actor among them.

In the 2014-15 period, he was part of many duds but even then he never failed to impress the auidence with his performance. He returned back to winning ways with his only release last year, Maheshinte Prathikaram. The movie was a huge success both critically and commercially. Directed by debutant Dileesh Pothen, the movie featured Fahadh in the title role of Mahesh Bhavana, a photographer from Prakash City in Idukki.

Mahesh Bhavana was a role tailor made for Fahadh. The character had equal doses of all the humanly emotions- humour, sorrow, innocence, anger and revenge. Fahadh portrayed it with such perfection that it’s even hard to imagine any other actor in that role. But after delivering such a big sucess, Fahadh took a one year break from movies. It came as a big surprise even for the industry insiders but the actor revealed that he wanted a break to settle down and spend some time with his family.

Come 2017, Fahadh once again won over the audience. He played a brief but prominent role in Take Off, the latest talk of M Town. The applause Fahadh garnered when he appeared on screen towards the later half of the movie proved the audience’s wait for him to return back to big screen.

Take Off is a story about a group of nurses are held captive in Iraq during the war period. The movie is inspired from real life incidents when around 40 nurses including Malayalis were trapped in a hospital in Tikrit region in Iraq during the ISIS attacks.

Fahadh played the role of Manoj Abraham, an Indian Ambassador. With his restrained yet powerful performance, he fitted the bill perfectly as a diplomat. Like always, his eyes conveyed the emotional constraints the character goes through while spearheading the rescue operations. Even when Parvathy hogged most of the screen space, Fahadh made a lasting impact with his performance.

Take Off is the directorial debut of renowned editor Mahesh Narayanan. The movie continues to get excellent reports from all the centres. Kunchacko Bobana also played a major role in the movie while Asif Ali did a brief cameo. The movie was made as a tribute to late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai. It is
funded by Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker in association with Rajesh Pillai Films.
