Amitabh Bachchan shares Veeram official theme song

Maverick filmmaker Jayaraj’s upcoming release Veeram is making all the right noises. The movie is all set to hit screens on February 24. Veeram is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series, featuring Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role of Chandu Chekavar.

The nation’s biggest superstar Amitabh Bachchan has shared the movie’s official theme song ‘We will Rise’, in his official Facebook page.

Recently, superstars like Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan were also impressed with the trailer and appreciated Kunal Kapoor’s hardwork for the movie. The actor developed a warrior’s physique in addition to learning sword fight and the martial art, Kalaripayattu for playing his part in the movie.

Veeram is highly anticipated by movie lovers across the State. It was screened at various film festivals like BRICS Film Festival, IFFK and IFFI, Goa. The sheer scale at which the movie is made itself is the reason for such high expectations. The movie is reportedly made on a budget of nearly 35 crores. It is jointly produced by Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts.

Kunal Kappor is playing the role of of warrior Chandu Chekavar, from the Vadakkan Pattukal of North Malabar region in Kerala. Most of the supporting actors in the movie are newcomers. Shivajith Nambiar, Divina Thakur, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Satheesh Menon, Aaran, Bilas Nair and Gopan Mavelikkara are some of the actors who have essayed supporting characters in the movie.

Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar has choreographed the stunts in the movie. Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was an associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, is handling the music department. Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram.

Dileep to team up with Shafi

Dileep is currently busy shooting for debutant Arun Gopy’s political thriller Ramaleela. Current heartthrob Prayaga Rose Martin is playing the female lead. The movie written by Sachy is produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam’s Mulakupadam Films.

Now, we hear that the actor will be joining hands with director Shafi for an upcoming movie. The two have previously teamed up for movies like Kalyanaraman, Marykkundoru Kunjaadu and more recently Two Countries. All the movies were huge successes at the box office.

Similar to their previous outings, the new movie will also be a comedy entertainer. It is reported that the movie will be jointly scripted by Shafi and his brother director Rafi. An official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.

Dileep, meanwhile has a slew of projects lined up. Kammara Sambhavam directed by ad filmmaker turned director Ratheesh Ambat is highly anticipated by the audience. Script for the movie is written by actor/writer Murali Gopy. Dileep will be seen in multiple looks in the movie which also marks the Malayalam debut of popular actor Sidharth.

Dileep has also signed for some other projects, Ramachandra Babu’s Professor Dinkan, Nadirshah’s untitled movie and Speed Track fame Jayasurya’s suspense thriller. His next release will be Georgettan’s Pooram directed by Dr Love fame K Biju.

Director Shafi has also committed for projects with Biju Menon and megastar Mammootty.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol at the top in UAE box office weekend

Mohanlal’s latest release Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has opened to huge numbers at the UAE box office. The movie currently stands top at the list of highest earnings of the weekend.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, directed by Vellimoonga fame featured Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles. The movie initially scheduled to hit screens during the Christmas season had to be postponed due to the theatre strike. It was finally released on January 20 amid great hype.

Upon release, critics and common audience praised the movie unanimously. Families took a particular liking for the movie thronging the theatres in large numbers. Opening day numbers for the movie amounted up to Rs 2.62 crores. The movie recently crossed the 30 crore mark taking only 21 days to reach the milestone.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is written by M Sindhuraj based on James VJ’s famous short story Pranayopanishath. The story revolves around a middle aged couple who rediscover their lost love from the boredom of their routine life.

Mohanlal essayed the character of Ulahannan, a panchayath secretary while Meena played his wife Aniyamma, a homemaker. Aima Rose Sebastian and Sanoop Santhosh have played their kids in the movie. The lead cast’s performance and a neat screenplay infused with situational humour were the major plus plots of the movie.

Rajamouli’s next is not Mahabharata; Eega 2 on cards

Speculations were rife about SS Rajamouli starting to work on his dream project Mahabaratha. Recently, reports were doing the rounds in social medias about superstars Mohanlal, Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan starring in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Mahabharata. However, sources close to the director have dismissed all the reports.

Now we hear that the director is planning a sequel to the 2012 blockbuster Eega. The movie is a reincarnation story about a housefly setting out to take revenge. Eega was a sensational success in all the languages. It was made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. Dubbed versions were released in Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The movie featured Nani, Kannada superstar Sudeep and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the major roles. According to latest reports, SS Rajamouli will start working on the scripting soon after completing the post production works of Baahubali: The Conclusion.

Meanwhile, Baahubali 2 is in it’s final stages of production. The movie scheduled to release for April 28, is the sequel to Baahubali : The Beginning, the all time blockbuster released in 2015. The movie has already made some unprecedented pre-release business for a South Indian movie. It is reported that the film has done a business of more than Rs 500 crores prior to the release.

Expectations are sky-high for the new movie. Cine watching audience across the country are waiting with bated breath to know how things unfold in the sequel. The answer to ‘Why Kattappa killed Baahubali’ is eagerly awaited by the audience.

First schedule of Vijay 61 nearing completion

We had earlier reported that the shoot for Vijay’s upcoming movie with Atlee is a semi period movie. Some portions for the movie is set in the 1980s timeline. Shoot for the movie is fast progressing in Chennai. The team have been shooting for the 80s portions in a huge set erected by the art department. Now we get reports that the first schedule for the movie will be wrapped on the 27th February.

The movie, tentatively titled as Vijay 61 features three lead heroes in Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Earlier Jyotika was signed for the project but she was later replaced by Nithya Menen.

The actress opted out of the movie citing date issues. Apart from Vijay and the three lead ladies, the movie will also feature SJ Suryah, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Sathyan and Kovai Sarala in important roles.

After the completion of the shoot in Chennai, the team will be moving to Europe and US, as a major part of the movie is set overseas. Vijay is sporting a new look for the movie, and it is believed that it will be his look for the 80s portions. He is seen sporting a thick beard with a twirled moustache.

KV Vijayendra Prasad who has written big budget blockbusters like Baahubali and Bhajrangi Bhaijaan has written the screenplay for the movie. Music maestro A R Rahman is the music director while debutant GK Vishnu is handling the cinematography. Ruben is in charge of the cuts. The movie is produced by the prestigious Sri Thenandal Films.

Will be soon composing in Malayalam: AR Rahman

The Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman has been shuffling between Bollywood, Kollywood and international projects. Music lovers across the country are waiting for his album for Mani Ratnam’s upcoming movie Kaatru Veliyidai.

However, the Academy Award winner has not yet composed for a Malayalam movie after 1992. He has worked only in one Malayalam movie, Yodha directed by Sangeeth Sivan. Recently, during a media interaction in Dubai, AR Rahman said that he will soon be composing for a Malayalam movie.

We had earlier reported that Rahman is being considered as the music director for Randamoozham, which is speculated to be one of the most expensive movies in Indian cinema. Mohanlal has already committed for this movie which is based on legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel of the same name. There are speculations about superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Vikram, Shivraj Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Nagarjuna, Manju Warrier and Prabhu starring in the movie.

Popular ad filmmaker Srikumar Menon will helm this project which will be made as a multilingual in all major languages in India and English. Mohanlal is playing the lead role of Bheemasenan in this epic movie which is based on the Kurukshetra war from Mahabaratha. According to reports, a popular production company from Mollywood will collaborate with biggies like Reliance Entertainment and Warner Bros for funding this movie.

AR Rahman has meanwhile committed for Vijay’s upcoming movie with director Atlee. This is the third time Rahman is working for a Vijay movie after Udhaya and Azhagiya Tamizh Magan.

Last year, he once again entered the nomination list of Oscars in the Best Original Score category for the film Pele: Birth Of A Legend. Also, the song Ginga from the same film, wad shortlisted in the Original Song category.

We had earlier today that Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Vimaanam has started rolling in Kochi. The team were looking for a fresh talent to play the female lead and finally they have found one. Durga Krishna, a native of Kozhikode has bagged the big opportunity to star opposite Prithviraj.

Vimaanam directed by newbie Pradeep M Nair film is inspired by the real life story of Saji Thomas, a speech and hearing person who hails from Idukki. It is an inspirational story about how he overcomes his physical disabilities build an aircraft on his own.

Vinayakan wins the best actor award in CPC Awards

Cinema Paradiso Club, a popular movie lovers group in Facebook recently held the second edition of CPC Awards in Cochin Palace Hotel. The awards were announced last week. Social media users have welcomed the group members initiative to award deserving winners unlike the channel awards where winners are selected based on personal choices, star values and TRP ratings.

The group has around 85,000 members including many celebrities. CPC Awards were judged on the basis of voting and jury members selection.

Vinayakan won the best actor award for his performance in Kammatipadam. After receiving the award from Jayasurya, the actor said “I am now reminded about my entry to cinema in 1994. Took me all these years to reach here.” He was given a standing applause by the members present for the event.

Sai Pallavi and Rajisha Vijayan clinched the best actress award for their performances in Kali and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam respectively. Sai Pallavi could not make it to the awards, but she conveyed her sincere gratitude to everyone who voted for her. A visibly emotional Rajisha Vijayan said, she felt honoured to have received the award for best actress.

Maheshinte Prathikaram was selected as the best movie of the year. Aashiq Abu, the movie’s producer received the award. Dileesh Pothen was selected as the best director of the year for Maheshinte Prathikaram. He also celebrated his birthday by cutting the cake during the event.

Maheshinte Prathikaram sweeped other major categories like the best scriptwriter for Shyam Pushkaran, cinematography for Shyju Khalid and best music director for Bijibal.

Manikandan Achari won the supporting actor award for his stunning performance as Balan Chettan in Kammatipadam. Rohini won the supporting actress award for Guppy and Action Hero Biju. Indrans was selected for the Special Honorary award.

Jayasurya,Vijay Babu, Saiju Kurup, Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph and Midhun Manuel Thomas were among the celebrities who attended the event.

Malayalam film industry is in a state of shock after the attack on actress Bhavana late on Friday in Kochi. Almost all the members of the industry have come together in Kochi Durbar Hall ground for a protest meet.

A visibly emotional Mammootty said, “Masculinity is not shown by attacking a woman, it should be by protecting her. We have all come together here to support her. She is the pride of Kerala and the symbol of defiance.

AMMA President and MP Innocent said, “Till yesterday, we never thought that such incidents will happen in our State. We are all deeply moved. Such incidents should not be celebrated. The police investigation is moving in the right direction and they will not let the criminals get away.

Manju Warrier, one of the closest friends of Bhavana felt that a major criminal planning have gone behind this shocking attack. “Such a situation can happen to anyone, but the courage with which she has faced it has amazed me“, said Manju Warrier.

Celebrities like Dileep, Suresh Krishna, Asha Sarath, Shamna Kasim, Mridula Murali, Anumol, KPAC Lalitha, Kamal, Joshiy and Ranjith were present in the meeting.

Dulquer Salmaan’s elated to see Vinayakan and Manikandan Achari win awards

It’s been almost one year since the release of Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipaadam, but the movie still does not fail to be among the topic of discussions social media forums. The movie from the outset looks like a gangster drama but it had many underlying layers that discussed about the discrimination faced by the Dalit community and showcased the reality of how Kochi city was urbanised on the grounds of Kammattipaadam. The layered narrative, top-notch detailing and the stunning performances from the lead caste were highly appreciated.

Though Dulquer Salmaan was the main lead in the movie, it was the supporting actors Vinayakan and Manikandan Achari who were showered with rave reviews for their performances. They won the hearts of the audience with their earnest portrayal of the downtrodden, Ganga and Balan. Dulquer himself has earlier admitted them to be the real heroes of the movie.

Recently, Vinayakan and Manikandan Achari won the awards for the best actor and best supporting actor in the second edition of CPC Awards. The event was held yesterday at Cochin Palace Hotel. Dulquer shared the photos in his official Facebook page and expressed his happiness.

He wrote,
“Warms my heart and fills it with immense joy to see Vinayakan Chetan and Manikandan Chetan get accolades love and appreciation for #Kammattipaadam ! I’ve been blessed to have learnt from them and be a part of the same film. Right from the get go I said they are the real heros of #Kammattipaadam. And I still say it.”

Kammattipaadam is regarded one of the finest regional movies to have released in Indian cinema in 2016. The movie won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Film Centre (NETPAC) award for the Best Malayalam Film during the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala(IFFK) which concluded yesterday.

The story of Kammattipaadam was written by Rajeev Ravi and the screenplay was written by actor/writer P Balachandran. Madhu Neelakantan handled the cinematography.
