“What wrong did I do, why are they targeting me?” fumes Dileep

After the attack on a popular actress in Kochi, there have been a lot of speculations and gossips doing the rounds in several online medias giving new stories to the incident.

AMMA executive meeting was called for in Kochi on the next day after the incident. There were reports about actor Dileep getting furious at other members and engaging in a verbal duel with some of the members. But actor Siddique, who hosted the meeting in his hotel in Kochi cleared airs regarding the latest allegations against Dileep.

Siddique dismissed the reports about Dileep getting into a heated argument with others as plainly baseless. However, Siddique admitted that Dileep became emotional as his name was unnecessarily dragged into the issue.

AMMA President Innocent, Mammootty, Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Dileep, Siddique, Kukku Parameswaran, Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Devan and Kalabhavan Shajon attended the meeting. They all decided to lend their full support to the attacked actress in this moment of grief. They also resolved to regularly contact the Chief Minister’s office and keep a track on the progress in investigation.

In the recently held CPC Awards 2016, actor Indrans was selected for the Special Honorary award for his contribution to cinema. An emotional Indrans while receiving the award said, “It has been over 30 years since I came into the industry. But, this is the first time that I am getting such an honor.”

He used an interesting allegory as well to explain his current situation.
“Now I am like a retired soldier, I could not shoot as I was amidst a lot of other soldiers. But, have the gun, so will continue firing.”

CPC Awards was organised a Facebook group, Cinema Paradiso Club which has more than 80,000 passionate cinema lovers as their members. The organisers have been getting a lot of appreciation for awarding deserving performers unlike the channel awards where winners are selected based on personal choices, star values and TRP ratings.

Vinayakan won the best actor award for his performance as Ganga in Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipaadam. Rajisha Vijayan and Sai Pallavi shared the award for best actress for their performances in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam and Kali respectively. Dileesh Pothen was chosen the best director while his movie Maheshinte Prathikaram won the best movie of the year award.

The event was held on Sunday in the Cochin Palace Hotel. Apart from the winners, Jayasurya, Saiju Kurup, Vijay Babu, Shalin Zoya, Baby Meenakshi and director Basil Joseph graced the occasion.

Big budget movie Veeram to relase on February 24

National award winner Jayaraj’s upcoming release Veeram is making all the right noises before it’s release. This big budget movie is all set to release on February 24, in around 100 screens in the State.

Veeram is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series, featuring Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role of Chandu Chekavar, from the Vadakkan Pattukal of North Malabar region in Kerala.

The movie is getting unprecedented publicity for a Malayalam movie. The fact that the movie is based on the legendary writer William Shakespeare’s Macbeth has made heads turn and take notice of this epic historical drama.

Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Abishek Bachchan were all impressed with trailer and shared it in their official pages in social networking platforms. They also appreciated Kunal Kapoor for the hardwork he has put in to play the role. The actor developed a warrior’s physique in addition to learning sword fight and the martial art, Kalaripayattu for playing his part in the movie.

The movie is made on a budget of nearly 35 crores, which is incidentally higher than the budget of Malayalam cinema’s biggest ever success, Pulimurugan. Jayaraj roped in such popular names from the west to handle the technical departments of the movie.

Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar has choreographed the stunts in the movie. Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was an associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, is handling the music department. Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram. The movie is jointly produced by Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts.

Most of the supporting actors in the movie are newcomers. Shivajith Nambiar, Divina Thakur, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Satheesh Menon, Aaran, Bilas Nair and Gopan Mavelikkara are some of the actors who have essayed supporting characters in the movie. Veeram is highly anticipated by movie lovers across the State. The film was screened at various film festivals like BRICS Film Festival, IFFK and IFFI, Goa.

Mukesh Ambani launches new plans for Reliance Jio

Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced that his telecom venture, Reliance Jio Info com Ltd, will start charging from its customers from 1 April. However, domestic voice calls to any network will be free across India.

Ambani in his speech listed Reliance Jio’s achievements in the last five months. He said that Jio has now crossed 100 million consumers across the country from 170 days of it’s launch. They have added seven customers per second in all these days.

Jio users during this period have consumed more than 100 Crore GB of data per month on the Jio network. That’s more than 3.3 Crore GB per day.

“When we started Jio and we set a target for ourselves in terms of saying that we will acquire a 100 million customers in the shortest time, even we didn’t imagine that we will do it in months in terms of that,” Ambani said.

The Jio Happy New Offer ends on March 31 and from April 1 onwards, data services are chargeable for Jio. They have also launched new programmes for continuing data services.

A custom-made programme Jio Prime Membership programme has been launched at an one time fee of Rs 99. It will be available only for current Jio customers and for those who subscribe to Jio before March 31, this year. This membership can be obtained through the My Jio app or by visiting any Jio-supported store.

The Jio Prime Members can get the use the unlimited services for only Rs 303 per month, that comes down to just Rs 10 per day. Jio Prime Members can continue enjoying the unlimited benefits
until 31st March 2018. This means unlimited data will be available for a price of Rs 303 per month for 12 months. Meanwhile, the voice calls will continue to be free.

Ambani added that Jio will match the highest selling tariff of other operators and provide 20% more data from what other operators provide.

Suriya’s latest release Singam 3 aka Si3 was released on February 9 after a lot of opening. The movie was opened to largely mediocre reviews from the critics. Si3, directed by Hari is the the third installment in the Singam franchise. Suriya has once again played the cop character Durai Singam.

Though the movie is doing good business at the B,C centres in Tamil Nadu, it has failed miserably in Kerala and the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana. The tried and tested commercial formula and the lack of novelty in the script has backfired for the movie.

Similarly in Kerala, the movie failed to create any impact disappointing the scores of Suriya fans.

Despite the movie getting underwhelming response in all major release centres, the producers, Studio Green Productions have claimed that Si3 has collected 100 crores in 6 days. It is still not clear whether this report is true or not. The previous two parts in the series were huge commercial successes and that inspired the makers to plan a third part.

Si3 features two female leads in Singam regular Anushka Shetty and Shruthi Haasan. North Indian actor Anoop Thakur Singh has played the antagonist in the movie. Radhika Sarathkumar, Vijayakumar, Radha Ravi, Soori, Krish, Nithin Sathya, Robo Shankar and Chaams are also part of the cast. Music for the movie is composed by Harris Jayaraj.

It’s been almost two months into 2017 and Mammootty fans are still waiting to see their matinee idol on big screen. But the wait will be worth it, as the actor has some exciting projects in his kitty. Right from his next release, The Great Father to the recently committed Shyam Dhar project, all the movies have good hype and potential to become huge successes.

Interestingly, the actor will be seen in different looks for all these movies. His uber cool bearded avatar for The Great Father has already become a trend among the youngsters. Directed by debutant Haneef Adeni, this revenge thriller is certainly the most anticipated Mammootty starrer in recent years. The movie is slated to have a grand release on March 30.

Next in the pipeline is ace filmmaker Ranjith’s Puthan Panam. Mammootty is playing the character Nithyananda Shenoy, a middle aged businessman. He will be seen with thick moustache and a salt-n-pepper look in the movie. The movie will hit screens in April during the Vishu season.

Mammootty is currently shooting for 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s untitled movie. The movie will be a light hearted entertainer featuring Nee-na fame Deepti Sati and Asha Sarath as the female leads. Mammootty is playing an Idukki native who comes to Kochi as a teacher trainer. Mammootty’s character has a peculiar name in the movie and the team will be revealing the name along with the title.

National award winner Ram’s upcoming release Peranbu is in the final stages of post production. The movie marked the return of Mammootty to Kollywood after a long hiatus. It’s been widely reported that Mammootty’s perfomance in the movie has the potential to win yet another National award, if the jury does not turn a blind eye towards him as has the case been for many deserving performances in recent years. The movie will also have a dubbed version in Malayalam after Mammootty that the theme discussed will appeal to the Malayali audience as well.

Raja 2, Vysakh’s spin off with the character Madurai Raja from the blockbuster Pokkiriraja is another highly anticipated movie of the year. Mammootty will once again sport the famous handlebar moustache in Raja 2. Vysakh had earlier assured that it will be a more racy and technically advanced movie comprising of all elements that the audience usually expect for in a Mammootty movie. Raja 2 will reportedly be the biggest movie in Mammootty’s career in terms of budget. It is being planned as a trilingual in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu.

Mammootty will be teaming up with Nadirshah this year for an entertainer. Interestingly, the actor will be seen as a 4 feet tall pint-sized man in the movie. The team will be using CGI works to show Mammootty as the undersized person. Scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam, this movie will be a rural entertainer with more prominence to humour.

Mammootty has also committed for scriptwriter Sethu’s debut directorial. Titled as Kozhi Thankachan, it will be a rural entertainer dealing with a relevant subject told in a humorous approach. Mammootty will be seen as an ordinary villager in the movie. Nyla Usha and Vedhika are playing the female leads in this movie. The movie is expected to go on floors by May this year.

Karnan, written by P Sreekumar is also expected to go on floors this year. According to unofficial reports, National award winner Madhupal will helm this project.

Apart from the above mentioned movies, Mammootty has also committed for movies with directors like Shafi, Rajadhiraja fame Ajai Vasudev and cinematographer Shamdat.

With so many exciting movies in his kitty, Mammootty is certain to enjoy a blockbuster 2017.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Solo will be an anthology of five stories

Dulquer Salmaan has finished shooting his portions for Soubin Shahir’s debut directorial Parava. The actor will be travelling to Shimla to join the second schedule of Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo.

Bejoy Nambiar, a former associate of Mani Ratnam, is a renowned filmmaker in Bollywood. He is noted for his movies like Shaitan, David and more recently Wazir.

Solo is reportedly an anthology of five stories. Five female leads will be there for each story with Dulquer playing the lead in all of them. Model turned actress Arthi Venkatesh and Ann Augustine have already been roped in to play the leads.

First schedule of the movie was completed in Kochi and Athirappilly, with Dulquer and Arthi shooting for some important scenes. The movie is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Apart from the lead actors, the supporting actors will be different for both Tamil and Malayalam versions.

Both Bejoy Nambiar and Dulquer Salmaan had earlier mentioned that Solo will not be an usual run of the mill kind of movie. It will be a commercially viable romantic entertainer with a different style and treatment.

After the shocking attack on Bhavana, the entire film industry have come together to express their solidarity to the actress. The courage she showed to file a case against the perpetrators without fearing the media and her image getting ruined, has been appreciated by everyone.

Though the actress initially put up a brave face, she was broken after some derogatory phrases in news channels. She was about to start shooting for Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Adam next year, but she was hesitant and opted to pull out of the movie. Prithviraj informed this in his Facebook post.

However, all her colleagues and friends from the industry have now inspired her to resume shooting. All of them have stood by her in this moment of grief and motivated her. According to trustworthy reports, Bhavana will soon start shooting for the movie.

Prithviraj and Bhavana have previously acted together in movies like Swapnakoodu, Police Robinhood, Lollypop etc. Their last outing was Shyamaprasad’s Ivde.

Adam will mark the debut directorial of screenwriter Jinu Abraham. Bollywood actress Mishti Chakraborty is playing Prithviraj’s pair in the movie. Bhavana, Narain and Rahul Madhav are also playing pivotal characters in the movie.

Though Bhavana is not playing Prithvi’s pair, she has a plum role which will have equal importance as that of the heroine. Veteran actor Siddique, Jaya Menon and Baby Abida Hussain, who played Akshay Kumar’s daughter in Airlift, are also part of the cast.

Veteran cinematographer Venu is once again donning the director’s hat. His upcoming movie will feature Fahadh Faasil and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. Reportedly, the movie will be a thriller set in the backdrop of forests.

Venu’s last directorial Munnariyippu starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead earned widespread critical acclaim. The movie written by Unni R, centres around a journalist and a convict C.K. Raghavan. Aparna Gopinath played the journalist’s role in the movie. The movie was screened at several international film festivals including Moscow International Film Festival, Indian Panorama of International Film Festival of India of 2014 and the Chicago International Film Festival.

The Fahadh Faasil starrer will be a raw suspense thriller. Like Munnariyippu, everything about the movie will be realistic, and sync sound will also be used. This is the first time union of Fahadh and Mamta. Both of them are known for their impeccable acting skills, so it certainly will be a treat for the audience to watch the actors outperform each other.

Mamta recently signed for Prithviraj’s upcoming crossover movie Detroit Crossing. The movie is set entirely in Detroit, Michigan and will showcase the lives of the immigrant community. Mamta Mohandas will be seen in a pivotal character that has several shades and layers. The movie will go on floors in May this year.

Fahadh Faasil meanwhile has not had a release for over one year now. His last release Maheshinte Prathikaram was a blockbuster success. He is currently awaiting the release of director Rafi’s comedy entertainer, Role Models.

The actor will next join the sets of Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum directed by Dileesh Pothen. Recently, he also signed for debutant Vivek’s Aanengilum Allengilum, a fun filled romantic entertainer. Sunny Wayne is also playing a major role in the movie.

This year, Fahadh be making his Kollywood debut through Velaikaaran, directed by Mohan Raja. Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara and Sneha are also part of the cast. He has also comitted for Aaranya Kaandam fame Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s next where he will be sharing screen space with Vijay Sethupathy.

Sunny Wayne’s Alamara release date confirmed

Sunny Wayne’s upcoming movie directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas is gearing up for release. The makers have officially announce that the movie will hit screens on March 17, Friday.

Story for Alamara is written by debutant Mahesh Gopal while John Manthrikkal, who has earlier worked with Midhun Manuel Thomas in his last venture Ann Maria Kalipilanu, has written the screenplay.

The movie will be a clean comedy entertainer similar to Midhun Manuel’s earlier movies like Om Shanti Oshana, which he scripted, Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu and Ann Maria Kalippilannu. Alamara centres around a newly wed couple and an almirah they receive from the bride’s side, as part of the tradition.

Sunny Wayne and model turned actress Aditi Ravi are playing the lead roles in the movie. Renji Panicker, Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Kammatipadam fame Manikandan Achari, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrans and Sudhi Koppa also feature in supporting roles.

This is Sunny Wayne’s third movie with Midhun Manuel Thomas. They have previously worked together in
Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu and Ann Maria Kalippilannu. The latter was a commercial success that won appreciation for Sunny Wayne for his performance as Poombatta Girish.

Alamara is produced under the banner of Full On Studios. Satheesh Kurup is cranking the camera while Sooraj S Kurup is handling the music department for the film. Lijo Paul is the editor.
