Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol doing good business in Tamil Nadu

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol (MVT) have successfully crossed the one month theatrical run. Both the movies were scheduled to release for Christmas season but had to be postponed due to the theatre strike. Dulquer starrer was the first to hit screens on January 19 followed by MVT on the next day.

Both the movies opened to good reports from the critics and the positive reviews reflected on the box office numbers. MVT was the first to enter the 30 crore club on it’s 21st day of theatrical run while Jomonte Suvisheshangal crossed the mark in 26 days. Both the movies were released in Tamil Nadu and has been getting good response from the audience.

According to the reports from trade sources in Tamil Nadu, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has grossed Rs 51.19 lakhs from it’s two week theatrical run in Tamil Nadu. First week collections alone amount to Rs 32.72 lakhs. The movie raked in Rs 18.47 lakhs from the second week run.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal, directed by veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad has grossed Rs 36.26 lakhs from it’s theatrical run in Tamil Nadu. The first week collections amounted to a hefty Rs 32.84 lakhs, but the following week witnessed a steady fall in the audience count, managing to collect only Rs 3.42 lakhs.

Of late, Malayalam movies have had great run in other states especially in Tamil Nadu. Hoping that MVT and Jomonte Suvisheshangal can continue doing good business in the coming weeks also.

We had earlier reported that director Omar Lulu who shot to fame with his debut movie Happy Wedding has started his next project. The movie titled as Chunkzz, promises to be a fun ride with revolving around travel and friendship.

Aanandam fame Vishak Nair and Balu Varghese, Ganapathi, Honey Rose, Mareena Michael and Dharmajan Bolgatty are playing the major roles in the movie.

Honey Rose is essaying a tomboyish character, Riya in the movie. Riya is a troublemaker of sorts who manages to create a problem wherever she goes. In the film, she is kicked out of her college in Bangalore forcing her parents enroll her in a college in Kerala. She joins mechanical engineering as the sole female student. The actress shared some of her photos from the shoot, in which she is seen sporting the look of a college student with an ID card and a bag.

Mareena Michael is playing the character Sherin, a DJ based in Bangalore. The movie’s plot evolves as the girls join the gang of boys on a trip to Goa. Dharmajan is also sporting a stylish look for the movie. An official poster was released where he is seen with a soul patch and spiked hair. In a rider’s jacket and sun glass, the actor is nearly unrecognizable.

The director’s debut movie, Happy Wedding was a sleeper success which had a theatrical run of over 100 days. Three newcomers Sanoop Thykoodam, Joseph Vijeesh and Aneesh Hameed have scripted this movie. They have jointly written the screenplay and dialogues for Omar Lulu’s story.

Gopi Sunder is music director while Honey Bee fame Alby will be cranking the camera. Dilip Dennis is in charge of the edits. The movie is produced by Vaishak Rajan under his banner Vaishaka Movies.

We had earlier reported that actor turned filmmaker Joy Mathew will be scripting a movie that has Megastar Mammootty in the lead role. Gireesh will be directing this movie, which is titled as Uncle.

Joy Mathew will also play a pivotal character in this movie. More details about the other cast and crew members are not yet known. An official announcement regarding the movie is still awaited.

Joy Mathew debuted as a filmmaker in 2012 through the critically acclaimed Shutter, which he had also scripted. The movie starring Sreenivasan, Lal, Sajitha Madathil and Vinay Forrt in the lead roles was widely appreciated for it’s theme, direction and the natural performance of all the actors. It was screened at several film festivals including IFFK and the International Film Festival of Dubai. The movie was later remade in all major Indian languages including Marathi, Tamil, Tulu, Telugu, Punjabi and Kannada.

Joy Mathew and Mammootty are very good friends for a long time. They have acted together in several movies like Rajadhiraja, Pathemari, Utopiayile Rajavu and Praise The Lord. Expectations are high when the two team up for a movie.

Mammootty, meanwhile is awaiting the release of the highly anticipated revenge thriller The Great Father, directed by debutant Haneef Adeni. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on March 30.

He is currently shooting for 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s untitled movie. He has also finished his portions for Puthan Panam directed by ace filmmaker Ranjith. The movie will release during the Vishu season in April. National award winner Ram’s bilingual movie Peranbu is also expected to hit screens soon.

This year, Mammootty has also committed for movies with directors like Shafi, Rajadhiraja fame Ajai Vasudev, Vysakh, writer Sethu and cinematographer Shamdat.

Mamta Mohandas to team up with Fahadh Faasil

Mamta Mohandas will be teaming up with Fahadh Faasil for the first time in the upcoming movie directed by accalimed cinematographer Venu. According to trustworthy reports, the movie will be a thriller set in the backdrop of forests.

Venu’s last directorial Munnariyippu starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead earned widespread critical appreciation. The movie written by Unni R, revolves around a journalist and a convict, C.K. Raghavan. Aparna Gopinath played the journalist’s role in the movie.

The Fahadh Faasil starrer will be a raw suspense thriller. This is the first time union of Fahadh and Mamta. Both of them are known for their amazing acting prowess, so it certainly will be a treat for to watch the actors trying to outperform each other.

The actress in a recent interview to Times of India is quoted saying, “I have always loved Venu sir’s work, and Munnariyippu especially has been one of my favourite films.You can call it a forest adventure. It will be a realistic movie, something I have never done before. Everything about it will be raw and we will be using sync sound.”

Mamta Mohandas has also signed for Prithviraj’s upcoming crossover movie Detroit Crossing. The film is set entirely in Detroit, in the US and will showcase the lives of the immigrant community. Mamta will be seen in a pivotal character that has several shades. The movie will go on floors in May this year.

Fahadh Faasil meanwhile has not had a release for over an year now, even though his last release Maheshinte Prathikaram was a blockbuster success. The actor is currently awaiting the release of director Rafi’s comedy entertainer, Role Models.

Now, support is pouring in from Kollywood also. Actor Vishal, the general secretary of Nadigar Sangam extended his support for the young actress.

Recently, in a press meet in Chennai, the actor voiced his disappointment over the appalling incident that has sent shock waves across film industries. He appreciated the courage shown by the actress to file a complaint against the perpetrators without fearing the aftermath and her image.

During the press meet, he asked, “If this is the situation for a well known celebrity, then how would it be for ordinary people in the society?“. Vishal along with Nadigar Sangam president and veteran actor Nassar has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Kerala, requesting to find the culprits as early as possible.

In the wake of the recent attack on a popular Malayali actress, the actors union- Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) have asked female actors not to travel alone, be it during the day time or night.

They have also offered their total support to the police for the investigation to find the accused. A meeting will be held with producers and technical members association FEFKA, to ensure the safety of the actors. AMMA has also proposed that hereafter, only those who clear the police verification can join the industry.

Several online medias reported about the involvement of a popular actor behind the attack. This triggered widespread discussions about the relationship between criminals and top stars. Even some insiders have admitted that Malayalam film industry is currently in the hands of real estate mafia and dreaded criminals. We had earlier reported that Dulquer Salmaan will be starring in Salam Bukhari’s debut directorial. The director, a former associate of Anwar Rasheed, had earlier informed that the movie will be a commercial entertain in which Dulquer will be seen as a Kochikkaran.

According to latest reports doing the rounds in social medias, Dulquer is playing a Sub Inspector in the movie. If the reports are to be believed, then this will be Dulquer’s second movie as a cop after Lal Jose’s Vikramadithyan, where he played a similar role. The actor is expected to start shooting for the movie soon after he completes his portions for Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo.

Ann Sheetal who debuted as Rosy in Prithviraj’s latest release Ezra, is essaying the female lead in this Salam Bukhari directorial. She will be seen playing a pivotal character that has ample scope for performance.

Lal, Chemban Vinod Jose, Renji Panicker, Vinayakan, Shekhar Menon, Sanusha Santhosh and KPAC Lalitha and some other newcomers are also part of the cast.

Anto Joseph is producing this yet-to-be-titled movie, which will start rolling in May this year. Fort Kochi and Pondicherry are the major locations.

Of late, we have been hearing a lot about big budget movies being planned in Mollywood. Pulimurugan’s gargantuan success inspired the filmmakers to plan movies on a bigger canvas. However, national award winner Jayaram’s epic historic drama Veeram was conceived before the recent triggering of big budget movies in Mollywood.

Veeram is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series. The movie features Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role of Chandu Chekavar, a warrior from the Vadakkan Pattukal of North Malabar region in Kerala.

Veeram has long been in the making and is finally gearing up for release on February 24. The movie is gaining unprecedented publicity for a Malayalam movie. The fact that the movie is based on the legendary writer William Shakespeare’s Macbeth has made heads turn and take notice of this epic historical drama. Veeram is certainly a giant leap from Malayalam industry to the bigger league.

Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan first shared the trailer in his official Twitter account followed by Aamir Khan who also appreciated Kunal Kapoor’s hardwork. The country’s biggest superstar Amitabh Bachchan, released the official theme song of the movie today through his official Facebook page. Such big names promoting the movie positively has helped the movie to gain notice outside Kerala.

Kunal Kapoor worked hard for months to develop a warrior’s physique in addition to learning sword fight and the martial art, Kalaripayattu for playing his part in the movie. Other supporting actors in the movie are mostly newcomers.

The team shot most portions in the Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad and Agra. Jayaraj roped in some popular names from the west to handle the technical departments of the movie.

Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar has choreographed the stunts in the movie. Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was an associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, is handling the music department. Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram. The movie is jointly produced by Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts. The movie was screened at several film festivals like BRICS Film Festival, IFFK and IFFI, Goa.

The involvement of some big names, the impressive promos and the promotions by Bollywood stars have helped the movie a great deal in making the right buzz prior to release. All eyes now on February 24, to see whether the movie can live up to the expectations.

Aby is the story of a differently abled boy’s dream to fly. Santhosh Echikkanam has written the movie. The movie was marred by controversies after the makers of Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Vimanam had filed a case against Aby as both the movies had similar themes about a man who builds an aircraft on his own. The court finally pronounced the verdict in team Aby’s favour giving the green signal for release.

The multifaceted Vineeth Sreenivasan is playing the title role in this movie. Aby is certainly the most challenging role in his career and he himself has admitted it. Vineeth had to take efforts to get the actions and behavioral patterns of a differently abled person right. From the promos itself it is evident that the actor has done a lot of homework to play the role of Aby.

Vidya Balan to pair opposite Rajinikanth?

We had earlier reported that superstar Rajinikanth’s next after Shankar’s sci-fi thriller 2.0, will be with Kabali director Pa Ranjith. The superstar’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush will be producing this movie under his banner Wunderbar Films.

Currently, the pre production works for the movie are going on in full swing. Pa Ranjith is developing the screenplay for the movie. According to latest reports, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is being considered to play the female lead in this movie.

A source was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “The makers of the film met Vidya Balan recently, and have finalised her as the lead. However, they are still working on the dates, and only then the official agreement would be signed.”

Even during the casting of Kabali, Vidya’s names were doing the rounds before Radhika Apte was roped in to play the female lead.

Though there are reports about the new movie being made as a sequel to Kabali, there is no official confirmation from the makers’ side. Though Kabali could not live up to the expectations of the superstar’s hardcore fans, it was widely acclaimed for his performance. The yet to be titled movie is expected to go on floors in May this year. The team is planning to shoot the movie in Chennai and Mumbai.

Vidya Balan was recently in the news after she walked out of a Malayalam movie directed by veteran filmmaker Kamal. The movie titled as Aami, is a biopic on legendary writer Kamala Surayya’s life. Vidya Balan was initially signed to play the lead character but was later replaced by Manju Warrier after she opted out citing creative differences with the director.
