Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is close behind Pulimurugan at UK box office

Superstar Mohanlal’s recent outing Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol was released recently in overseas centres like UK and UAE. The movie has taken a great opening at the UK box office, becoming the second best weekend grosser for a Malayalam movie after Pulimurugan. PJ Entertainments who distributed the movie in UK region have informed the news through a post in their official Facebook page.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, directed by Vellimoonga fame features Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles. The movie was released on January 20 amid great hype. M Sindhuraj has scripted the movie based on James VJ’s famous short story Pranayopanishath. The story revolves around a middle aged couple who rediscover their lost love from the boredom of their routine life.

Upon release, critics and common audience praised the movie unanimously for the performances of the lead cast and the relevant message it conveys. Families in particular thronged the theatres in large numbers. The movie has already crossed the 30 crore mark taking only 21 days to reach the milestone.

Mohanlal portrayed the character of Ulahannan, a panchayath secretary. Meena is seen as his wife Aniyamma, a homemaker. Aima Rose Sebastian and Sanoop Santhosh have played their kids in the movie.

Anoop Menon, Rahul Madhav, Kalabhavan Shajon, Alencier Ley Lopez, Neha Saxena, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sharafudheen, Sudheer Karamana, Joy Mathew, Asha Sarath and many others have played the supporting roles. The movie is bank rolled by Sophia Paul under the banner Weekend Blockbusters.

While Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has crossed the 30 crore mark, Prithviraj’s Ezra has got a tremendous opening in the box office. Many exciting movies are gearing up for release in the next two months.

The Great Father

Megastar Mammootty’s The Great Father is certainly one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Hype surrounding this movie directed by debutant Haneef Adeni is soaring high day by day. The sensational teaser and posters have increased the anticipation levels of the audience. The movie also boasts of a star studded cast and with a producer like Prithviraj, there is absolutely no reason for this movie to falter.

Mohanlal-Major Ravi team’s 1971: Beyond Borders is another movie that is eagerly awaited by the audience. This big budget war drama also stars Tollywood hero Allu Sirish and Hindi actor Arunoday Singh. Mohanlal is once again playing the role of Major Mahadevan. He is essaying a dual role, the other character named as Major Sahadevan. It is based on the 1971 war fought between India and Pakistan. The team shot exclusively in places like Rajasthan and Georgia.

CIA starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead is directed by Amal Neerad.
The movie scripted by Shibin Francis is about a youngster from Kottayam region who travels to the US in pursuit of his girlfriend. Dulquer is playing the character Aji Mathew while Newcomer Karthika Muraleedharan is playing the female lead. The team shot extensively in the US and Mexico during last November and December. CIA is expected to have a massive opening as the movie is releasing amid huge hype. The movie is highly anticipated majorly because of the teaming up of a stylish filmmaker like Amal Neerad and the crowd favourite Dulquer Salmaan. According to unconfirmed reports, the movie will release during the Vishu season.

Sakhavu

Nivin Pauly’s highly anticipated movie Sakhavu is in it’s final stages of production. The movie is
helmed by National award winner Siddhartha Siva. It already has huge hype due to the communist backdrop. Nivin Pauly is playing the character of Krishna Kumar, a student political leader of the Left front. It will be an intense movie that will have equal amounts of humour, romance and machismo. Aparna Gopinath, Jamna Pyari fame Gayathri Suresh and Kollywood actress Aishwarya Rajesh are playing the female leads in the movie.

Other than the above mentioned movies, some there exciting movies gearing up for release are Oru Mexican Aparatha, Angamaly Diaries and Honey Bee 2 Celebrations.

What we saw today in the cyberspace is the coming together of the entire Malayalam film industry coming out in support of actress Bhavana who was assaulted by a gang in a moving car in Kochi.

Actor Mohanlal in his Facebook post has called for stricter punishments so that no one even dares to think about such an act on a woman. He also added that we should stop being candle lighting sympathisers and hoped for justice to be served without any delay.

The post reads,

“It is most unfortunate to hear about this atrocity perpetrated on a Lady. Such acts should not only be condemned vehemently by one and all but exemplary punishment should be handed out to these criminals who are worse than animals so that it serves as a lesson to similar minded characters who I will not even term as humans. It’s time we stop being candle holding and candle lighting sympathisers and ensure that the law of the land be strengthened in such ways that no body even dares contemplating such acts leave alone commit it. My heart goes out to her in this time of distress.
May justice be served without delay.”

Other celebrities including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Aashiq Abu, Anoop Menon, Manju Warrier, Unni Mukundan, Rima Kallingal, Major Ravi, Kalidas Jayaram and Priyadarshan have all lent their total support to Bhavana.

The shocking attack on actress Bhavana has been condemned severely by the the public and the industry people. Many celebrities including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Aashiq Abu, Rima Kallingal, Kalidas Jayaram and Priyadarshan have lent their total support to Bhavana.

Director Major Ravi has bursted out at the incident and called for immediate action against the criminals, through a post in his official Facebook page.

The post reads,

“Sorry and hurt to hear about Bhavana. If the government don’t take any strong action forthwith it will be warning to the public..if a celebrity can go through this kind of torture from the rowdy gang; it can happen to any of our sisters. Shame on you all the system who can’t take action on these culprits. And I want that the entire film fraternity to come together on the road till the Government wakes up. No party or caste. She like girls are our sisters. All of you my well wishers wake up and react. Bhavana we are with you!! God bless”

He also asked the accused to better surrender to the police before getting beaten to pulp by the common men of the society.

The police have nabbed Bhavana’s driver Martin who is reportedly the master mind for the attack. The actress in her statement has told the police that her former driver, Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni was among those who forcefully entered her car. He is a culprit in several criminal cases including chain snatching. He along with four others are absconding and police are on the look out for him.

Kalidas Jayaram has made his statement through a post in his official Facebook page.

“Extremely shocked on hearing the news about a dear friend of mine … these people can’t be called men coz these are guys who don’t know how to get a women the right way …and I still wonder why they aren’t hanged.”

The incident happened late on Saturday, when Bhavana was returning back from shoot in Thrissur. A gang barged into her car and assaulted her while also forcibly taking some obscene photographs. Industry colleagues have expressed their solidarity and support to Bhavana who put a brave face by filing a case against the miscreants without fearing the media and her image.

Legendary filmmaker Priyadarshan in a recent interview has requested all the actors including superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty should come out and respond against this serious issue. He asked, if a popular celebrity like Bhavana is subjected to such an attack, then what about the safety of other women in our society. He also added that he is waiting to see what AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) can do to ensure the dignity of an actor.

Bhavana was abducted and harassed late night on Friday, when she was returning back from Thrissur after shoot. The incident occurred near Angamaly when a group of men including her former driver forcibly entered the actress’ car. They tried to assault her and forcibly took obscene photographs. It was reported early morning yesterday.

“I was hesitant to speak out about this incident yesterday out of respect for the victim of this travesty. It’s easy to just post something on social media, but I’m afraid it somehow becomes about yourself. This is so much more than all that. It’s something that sickens and frightens my core. I take great pride in our state and how safe our society is. Especially how we treat and respect our women. And yesterday it’s like that shattered. This is somebody’s daughter, somebody’s sister, somebody’s family and someone who has brought to life so many wonderful characters to us film lovers. I wish and pray our superb police force, the Kerala Police catch these spineless cowards hiding behind their masks. Including myself and our industry, I request all our boys and men, young and old to be alert and vigilant. It’s equally our responsibility to care about, look out for, and to respect & protect our women.”

The incident occurred on Saturday night when a group of me including Bhavana’s former driver abducted and tried to harass her in a moving car. The actress was returning back to Kochi from Thrissur after shooting for her upcoming movie. They tried to assault her and forcibly took some obscene photos. The incident was reported early morning by director Lal, in whose house she took refuge.

But some news channels, in the name of sensationalising the news have indulged in adding new stories out of their weird imagination. Celebrities and common men have raised their voice against such cheap stunts to increase their TRP ratings.

Tovino Thomas wrote on his Facebook page about the need to address the issue and the zero credibility shown by the news channels. Since it’s a sexual assault, the actor has refrained from mentioning the name of the victim in his post.

“Absolutely shocked by what a friend has been subjected to, in the last few hours. The already insecure feeling for women here has become multifold. I was assured she is safe and well at home, but the whole thing has been alarming. Firstly the inhuman behaviour of men, regardless of similar wombs from where they came. And then the trauma of fear. Fear for how the helpless situation will be perceived. Fear of how the incident will be projected. And fear for the consequences. Already, “social channels” with zero credibility are running their shows on digital media. Let’s not immerse in the incident; look at the issue that needs addressing, the bigger picture.“

Now, we are getting reports that Ann Sheetal who played a pivotal role in the recently released Prithviraj starrer Ezra, has been roped in to play Dulquer’s pair in the movie.

The actress has been getting a lot of appreciation for role in Ezra. The movie is set in the present and in 1930s, in Jew Town in Mattanchery. She has played the character Rosy in the movie. Her portions are in the pre-Independence era. Ann is a product of a popular film school in Mumbai.

Girish Gangadharan who has been appareciated for his work in movies like Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Kali and Guppy is the DOP. Gopi Sunder will be composing the music while Vivek Harshan will handle the edits.

Chemban Vinod Jose, Lal, Renji Panicker, Vinayakan, Shekhar Menon, Sanusha Santhosh and KPAC Lalitha and some other newcomers will also be part of the cast.

The movie will start rolling in May this year and will be shot majorly in Fort Kochi and Pondicherry.
