Mohanlal vs Prithviraj in UAE Box Office

2017 has kick-started great for Malayalam film industry with most of the major releases minting big bucks at the box office. Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Prithviraj’s Ezra are having a great run in thetares across the State.

After competing in the Kerala box office, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol (MVT) will now go face to face in the UAE theatres. Both the movies were initially planned to release for the Christmas season last year but unfortunately had to be pushed due to the uninvited theatre strike.

Both these movies belong to different genres, while the Mohanlal starrer is a family entertainer, Ezra is an one of its kind horror thriller in Malayalam.

MVT directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob was released on January 20. The movie recently crossed the 30 crore mark with it’s 21 days theatrical run. Written by M Sindhuraj, the movie centres around a middle aged couple who rediscover their lost love from the boredom of their routine life. The movie stars Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles. The movie is produced by Sophia Paul’s Weekend Blockbusters.

Ezra directed by debutant Jay K has taken a massive opening in Kerala. It registered the highest opening day collections for a Prithviraj starrer and in all probability end up as the actor’s biggest ever blockbuster. The movie was released outside Kerala in a record 154 screens, the biggest ever for a Malayalam movie. A novel attempt in Malayalam cinema, the movie is an authentic horror thriller set in the Jewish backdrop. Ezra is regarded as technically one of the finest movies ever released in Mollywood.

The movie marked the Malayalam debut of South Indian actress Priya Anand. Tovino Thomas, Sudev Nair, Bharat Dabholkar, Ann Sheetal, Sujith Shankar, Vijayaraghavan and Babu Antony have played supporting characters. Mukesh R. Mehta, C. V. Sarathy and A. V. Anoop have jointly produced the movie under the banners of E4 Entertainment and AVA Productions.

Aanandam fame Vishak Nair will be playing an imporatnt role in Asif Ali’s brother Askar Ali’s upcoming movie Chembarathipoo.

The youngster announced that he was part of the movie through a post in his official Facebook page

The post reads,

“I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing a part in this gem of a film. Thank You, Kunchacko Boban sir for launching our small venture…can’t wait to get started!”

Actor Kunchacko Boban recently unveiled the title poster in his official Facebook page and wished the team all the success.

Chembarathipoo will be scripted and directed by editor-turned-filmmaker Arun Vaiga. Poomaram fame Santhosh Anima will be cranking the camera for this movie.
Debutant A R Rakesh will be handling the music department.
The movie will be produced by Dream Screen Productions. More details regarding the other cast members are not yet known.

Vishak Nair won over the audience with his lovable performance as the goofy Kuppi in debutant Ganesh Raj’s Aanandam. Post the success of Aanandam, Vishak was roped in for ace filmmaker Ranjith’s Puthan Panam starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead. He is also playing one of the leads in Happy Wedding fame Omar Lulu’s new movie titled as Chunkzz.

Aanandam fame Anarkali Marikar in Prithviraj’s Vimaanam

Aanandam fame Anarakali Marikar has bagged a role in one of the highly anticipated movies of the season. She will be next seen in Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Vimaanam.

The young actress shared the news on her Facebook account, announcing that she is playing a part in Vimaanam.

The post reads,

“I’m really happy and excited to announce that I’m doing a small part in the movie VIMAANAM starring prithviraj (someone I loved so much and was crazy about). And…. I’ve completed one day of shoot. So far everything went quite well. And yeah!!! This time I have plenty of dialogues.”

Anarakali Marikar won the audience hearts with her short hair and a geeky glass which Parvathy Menon made a style statement through Bangalore Days. Though Anarkali was present all through the screen time of Aanandam as one among the seven major leads, she had very few dialogues.

Her character, Dharshsna was the artist of the class who was most often seen preoccupied with her drawings or else silently listening to all that’s going around her. In fact, the whole movie was narrated from her point of view. It will be interesting to see what kind of character she plays in Vimaanam.

Vimaanam directed by debutant Pradeep M Nair is a story about a speech and hearing impaired man who builds an aircraft on his own. The story is inspired from the real life of Saji Thomas, hailing from Idukki.

The movie will span two time periods with Prithviraj appearing in two different looks. He will be shedding a few kilos along with taking flying courses to play his part in the movie. The movie is being planned on a big canvas involving a lot of VFX works for the flying scenes. Listin Stephen is producing the movie.

Nedumudi Venu, Sudheer Karamana, Shanthi Krishna and many other prominent actors are also part of the cast. The film is being currently shot in Kochi. Mangalore and Delhi are the other locations.

Mohanlal- Meena pair is one of the all time favourite romantic pairs of the Malayali audience. The two have acted together in several superhit movies and share great on-screen chemistry between them. Their latest outing Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is running with packed audience in theatres across the State.

The actress was recently in Dubai for the premier show of Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. While interacting with the medias there, she said that she considers acting with Mohanlal as a very big fortune.

Meena said, “Mohanlal is one of the best actors in the whole world. Acting with him is a big learning experience.”

The two have previously acted together in movies like Varnapakittu, Chandrolsavam, Olympian Antony Adam, Natturajavu, Mr Brahmachari, Udhayananu Tharam and Drishyam.

In Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, they play a middle aged couple of two kids. The story revolves around the couple who rediscover their lost love from the boredom of their routine life. Aima Rose Sebastian and Sanoop Santhosh have played their kids parts.

Mohanlal essayed the character of Ulahannan, a panchayath secretary while Meena has played Aniyamma, a house maker. Their chemistry is the one of the major assets of the movie.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob recently crossed the 30 crore mark. The movie is written by M Sindhuraj based on James VJ’s popular short story Pranayopanishath. This family entertainer is bank rolled by Sophia Paul’s Weekend Blockbusters.

Actress Bhavana abducted and harassed

In a shocking incident, popular actress Bhavana was abducted and harassed in Ernakulam, early on Saturday, after she was returning back from shoot. The incident occurred near Angamaly when a gang of men including her former driver forcibly entered the actress car.

According to reports, the accused banged the tempo traveller in which they were travelling to the actress car and forcibly entered the car. They threatened the driver to move the car to Ernakulam side and drove around the city for nearly two hours. They tried to harass her and took photos of the actress. Later, they let her go off in Kakkanad near director Lal’s house. The actress took refuge in the director’s home and from where the police was informed.

Soon, the police nabbed Bhavana’s driver Martin. Police believe that the incident occurred with his help. The actress reportedly told the police that her former driver was among those who forcefully entered her car. Prime accused in the case, Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni is a culprit in several criminal cases including chain snatching. He is absconding and police are on the look out for him.

Tovino Thomas is going through a great season making rapid strides to become one of the top league actors in Mollywood. The actor has two highly anticipated movies gearing up for release, Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha.

Now we hear that the actor has started shooting for his debut movie in Kollywood. The movie is directed by cinematographer turned filmmaker B R Vijayalakshmi is an unsual love story.

Tovino has confirmed that he is part of the movie. A few portions have already been shot in Kerala. The yet to be titled film is reportedly based on a true incident that happened in Brazil. It is an unusual love story that has Tovino playing an intense character. The actor though is tight-lipped about the project as the makers are yet to announce the movie officially. Apart from Tovino, the movie also stars many prominent supporting actors. The movie is expected to hit screens by June this year.

Director BR Vijayalakshmi is known being Asia’s first woman cinematographer. She has worked in 22 feature films including movies like Chinna Veedu, Mallu Vetti Minor, Kottai Vaasal, Decemeber 31 etc. She has also written the script for the Malayalam movie Daddy, which had Arvind Swamy in the lead.

Meanwhile, Tovino’s political drama Oru Mexican Aparatha directed by debutant Tom Emmatty is gearing up for release. The movie features him in a dual role, one as a student leader in the 80s and the other in the early 2000s.

Another movie that is waiting to hit screens is Godha directed by Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph. Tovino has played the role of a wrestler in the movie. It is scheduled to release for May this year.

Young director Karthick Naren is basking in the glory of his debut movie Dhuruvangal 16. The movie has excellent response from the audience and crossed the 50 day mark yesterday.

We had reported that the 22 year old director is planning to start his next month. Titled as Naragasooran, the movie will be an action filled gangster drama. It is a multistarrer featuring three leading stars from Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam in equally important roles. Aravind Swamy has already committed for the project, though he is yet to sign the dotted lines.

Young star from the Telugu industry, Naga Chaitanya has also been approached for the movie and him starring in the movie is almost confirmed. The latest buzz is that ace filmmaker Gautham Menon has shown interest in producing this movie.

The director recently congratulated Karthick for his debut work. They have met a couple of times and discussions are on about the production. Gautham Menon has always spotted budding talents and encouraged them. Other than his own movies, he has produced films like Veppam, Thanga Meenkal and Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum. He is also producing the highly anticipated Selvaraghavan’s movie,
Nenjam Marappathillai.

Gautham Menon is currently busy shooting simultaneously for two movies, Dhanush’s Enai Nokki Payum Thotta and Vikram’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram.

Aamir Khan appreciates Veeram trailer

National award winning filmmaker Jayaraj’s Veeram is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The sheer scale at which the movie is made itself is the reason for such high expectations. Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor is making his Malayalam debut this movie.

Veeram is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series.

Kunal Kappor is playing the role of of warrior Chandu Chekavar, from the Vadakkan Pattukal of North Malabar region in Kerala. Trailer for the movie was recently released by Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan.

Aamir Khan, with whom Kunal Kapoor has earlier worked in Rang De Basanti has appreciated the trailer and wished success for the team through his Twitter account.

Veeram was filmed with with a budget of around 35 crores. It is jointly produced by Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts.

Most of the actors in the movie are newcomers. Shivajith Nambiar, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Satheesh Menon Divina Thakur, Aaran, Bilas Nair and Gopan Mavelikkara are some of the actors who have played supporting characters in the movie.

Allan Poppleton, who has choreographed stunts in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar is working in the movie. Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was earlier an associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, is handling the music department for the movie. Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram.

The movie is all set to release on February 24.

It seems like talks surrounding director Kamal’s ambitious project Aami won’t die down soon. Aami is a biopic on popular writer Madhavikutty’s life. Recently it was announced that Manju Warrier will be playing the lead role in the movie.

Kamal was at the receiving end of criticism from BJP supporters after his controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vidya Balan who had initially signed for the project walked out citing creative differences with the director as the reason.

Now, cyber bullies want Manju Warrier to reverse her decision to work in Aami. Many people have commented on her Facebook page that she should not be doing a movie with a director like Kamal, who has been involved in many controversies of late.

Manju Warrier has finally responded through a post in her official Facebook page. She has written that her decision to act in the movie is not beacuse of any political stand but purely professional. She considers working in Kamal’s movies like Puzhayum Kadannu and Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu as one of her biggest fortunes.

Manju is not bothered about the political stand of the director, it is his creative excellence that she respects. The actress affirmed that her nation is her politics. She added that she worships every religion be it Hinduism, Christianity or Islam. She also requested people not to spread unwanted controversies and consider Aami as an art form.

Manju concluded her post by saying that she is really excited about the challenges ahead of her to bring life to Madhavikutty’s character on screen.

Madhavikutty’s life was never short of controversies. She changed her named from Madhavikutty to Kamala Surayya after she converted to Islam. She revolutionized writings with her honest treatment of female sexuality and infused her writing with power and bold themes.

Nayanthara’s Dora teaser released

Lady superstar Nayanthara’s upcoming movie Dora is gearing up for release in April. The movie is an horror thriller directed by Doss Ramasamy. Official teaser for the movie was released today evening in YouTube.

Nayanthara is playing the central character in the movie. From the teaser, we can make out that a car with some supernatural powers is behind the protagonist. The movie also stars Thambi Ramaiah, Harish Uthaman, Shan and Tharun Kshatriya in supporting characters.

Dora is jointly produced by Hitesh Jhabak and A. Sarkunam under the banner Sarkunam Cinemas. Debutant composers Vivek and Merwin are handling the music department while Dinesh Krishnan is the cinematographer of the movie.
