Vineeth Sreenivasan about Aby and Vimaanam

Aby, directed by debutant Srikanth Murali is scheduled to hit screens on February 23. The movie stars the multi talented Vineeth Sreenivasan in the title role.

Aby has been in the news ever since it was announced. The makers of Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Vimaanam had filed a case against Aby as both the movies had similar themes about a man who builds an aircraft on his own.

Santhosh Echikkanam, the writer of Aby had written a story about a boy and his dream to fly when he heard about the life of Saji Thomas. Saji hailing from Idukki is a speech and visually impaired person who out of his sheer will power designed a lightweight aircraft on his own. Santhosh met Saji and incorporated some of his real life incidents in his script.

Later, Saji sold the rights to Pradeep M Nair, who is the director of Vimaanam. When the team of Vimaanam heard about Aby’s similar story, they approached FEFKA. When that didn’t find a soultion they filed a case in August to stall the shoot of Aby. The court dismissed their plea following which they filed a case on the grounds of personality rights.

After the legal issues, Santhosh Echikkanam reworked on his script and removed the scenes inspired from Saji’s real life. The verdict was recently pronounced in Aby’s favour.

Vineeth was asked about his opinion about the controversy in a recent interview.

He said that the director and writer of Aby narrated the story to him two and years back when he was also thinking of making a movie with a similar story. He sounded confident about how Aby was conceived and is also well aware that nothing unethical has happened behind it. Vineeth also added that he didn’t have any prick of conscience to do the role. His character in Aby is not physically challenged while Prithviraj is playing a deaf and mute person in Vimaanam.

Mareena Michael is playing the female lead in Aby. Bollywood actor Maneesh Chowdary is playing a pivotal character in the movie. Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sudheer Karamana, Harish Perady, Dileesh Pothen, Praseeda Menon, Maya Menon and many other actors are also part of the cast.

Suvin K Varkey has produced the movie under the banner Little Big Films.

I am aware that I am not a good actor: Vineeth Sreenivasan

Vineeth Sreenivasan last directed Nivin Pauly’s superhit movie Jacobinte Swargarajyam. He then ventured into production, forming a new production house Habit Of Life. Last year, he bankrolled Aanandam a movie that mostly compromised, of newcomers. Aanandam also turned into a superhit success.

Now, Vineeth Sreenivasan is gearing up for his next release, but this time as an actor. Aby directed by debutant Srikanth Murali is all set to hit screens on February 23.

Vineeth has touched glory in many fields like playback singing, lyric writing, screen writing, direction and now production. But his acting is something he would have to work on and he himself has admitted that several times. During a recent interview, Vineeth said that he keeps acting again and again hoping that one day, he will become good at it.

He added, “I love cinema and I am passionate about it. I am someone who came into films out of my love for it. So while I am on a break from direction and when good scripts come to me, I don’t feel like missing those chances to work with great directors and teams.

Vineeth started his acting career in 2008 through the movie Cycle. He has also starred in acclaimed movies like Traffic, Chappa Kurishu, Om Shanti Oshana and Oru Vadakkan Selfie. He was last seen in a cameo appearance in Jude Anthany Joseph’s Oru Muthassi Gadha.

The title role in Aby will be a challenging one for Vineeth as it is about a differently abled boy’s dreams to fly. Post Aby, he has also committed for Payyans fame Leo Thaddeus’ next movie titled as Oru Cinemakkaran. Vineeth is playing an aspiring filmmaker in the movie which features Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame Rajisha Vijayan as the female lead

Can’t compare Godha with Bollywood movies: Tovino Thomas

Can’t compare Godha with Bollywood movies: Tovino Thomas

Sports drama is currently the hot favourites of filmmakers in Bollywood. Two of the country’s biggest blockbusters Sultan and Dangal, both were sports dramas based on kushti or wrestling. Mollywood is also having a wrestling based movie to hit screens this year. We are talking about Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph’s upcoming movie Godha.

Promising young actor, Tovino Thomas is playing the role of Anjaneya Das, a wrestler in the movie. The movie’s official teaser was released few days back to great response in social medias. However, a section of social media users have started to compare Godha with the Bollywood biggies Sultan and Dangal. Tovino was asked about this in a recent interview with Times Of India.

He said, “Malayalam industry has already seen movies based on wrestling like Mutharamkunnu P O and Oridathoru Phayalvaan. No one said Sultan and Dangal was copied from our movies. But when Godha’s first look posters were released, people started asking whether Godha was inspired from Sultan. Our filmmakers are not short of ideas. Most often we have come up with movies that are better than Bollywood films, in terms of quality, craft and performance. There should be no comparison between Malayalam films with the ones in Hindi, which are made with such big budgets.

Earlier, director of the movie Basil Joseph also said the same in a chat session with Onlookers Media. Works for Godha started even before Sultan and Dangal were announced. So there is no similarities with those movies. Also, the budget at which the Bollywood movies are made is incomparable with ours. Tovino had to train in between shoots and during night time to get in shape whereas Bollywood actors start preparing six months prior to the shoot. Our budget constraints doesn’t give actors the liberty to do that.

Godha apart from a sports drama, is also a mix of comedy, romance and emotions. The movie stars Renji Panicker and Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi in other major roles.

Thira fame Rakesh Mandoti has written the movie. Music department is handled by Shaan Rahman while Vishnu Sarma has wielded the camera. Aanandam fame Abhinav Sunder Nayak is the editor.

Godha is funded by Mukesh R Mehta under the banner of E4Entertainment. The movie is scheduled to hit screens in May this year.

Protests after Kalyan Silks staff assault a student; One lakh offered as compensation

Sangh parivar members to boycott Kamal’s Aami; instead gets trolled in social media

Sangh parivar members to boycott Kamal’s Aami; instead gets trolled in social media

Veteran director Kamal has been in the news for sometime now. He was at the centre of criticism after Sangh Parivar members protested against him for the national anthem issue during the IFFK and his controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan walked out of his dream project Aami, which is a biopic on writer Kamala Das’ life.

Now, some Sangh Parivar members have called for boycotting the movie. But their call to stall the movie has paved way for severe trolling as meme creators have made good use of the situation to launch an attack on them.

During the 21st IFFK held in Thiruvananthapuram last year, a group of delegates did not stand during the National anthem, that has been made mandatory in theatres, forcing the police to arrest them. Kamal who is also the Chairman of Kerala State Chalachithra Academy questioned the police’s act to enter the theatres without informing the organisers. This triggered protests against Kamal and he was branded as an anti national by the Sangh Parivar members. They even staged protests in front of his house. BJP State general secretary AN Radhakrishnan asked Kamal to move to Pakistan if he cannot live by the rules here. The issue worsened with support flowing in from all corners for Kamal. FEFKA also demanded an apology from the BJP leader for his remarks.

Once the dust settled down, Kamal was all set to begin his dream project Aami when Vidya Balan who had earlier comitted for the movie walked out. She cited creative differences with the director as the reason but there were rumours that Kamal’s statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the reason for opting out. The director recently finalized on Manju Warrier to play the character of Kamala Das in Aami. The movie will start rolling soon.

Meanwhile, the Sangh Parivar members call to boycott the movie was met with severe trolling in social medias. Netizens drew comparison with Aamir Khan’s PK, which was also boycotted in several parts of the country alleging that the movie was hurting religious sentiments of the Hindu community. However, the boycotting had no impact as PK went on to become the biggest ever blockbuster in the country.

Baburaj reveals actual reason behind the attack

Yesterday (February 14), a shocking news was being reported about an attack on popular Malayali actor Baburaj. The actor was stabbed on his chest after a scuffle with locals near his resort over water sharing. Many theories are doing the rounds about the attack with most of them projecting the actor as the culprit.

Baburaj himself has finally revealed what exactly happened in Munnar.
The actor owns a resort Emerald Wyte Mist, at Kambiline near Adimali in Munnar. He had had purchased five cents of land near his resort three years back from the accused Sunny Thomas. But the owner of the land was his father, Thomas Sunny. Sunny Mathew’s siblings also have rights in the property, but he sold a portion of it without informing them. Baburaj came to know about this only when he went to register the property. He then lodged a case against Sunny for criminal conspiracy and cheating by impersonation.

Yesterday, Baburaj went to his property to clean the pond and place a new motor after there was shortage in water supply. He brought in a few laborers to clean the pond after obtaining an order from the Munnar Special Tribunal. This agitated Sunny who got into a heated argument who after a tussle stabbed Baburaj with a machete on his chest.

The actor is now admitted in Rajagiri Hospital in Kochi, where he is being treated for the cut in his chest muscle. The police meanwhile have nabbed the accused Sunny Thomas and his wife Lissie, who was a witness to the whole incident.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal is not copied from Jacobinte Swargarajyam: Vineeth Sreenivasan

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, released on January 19, is continuing it’s successful theatrical run. Though the movie was received with mixed reviews from critics who pointed out the lack of novelty, it is doing good business in all the release centres.

Upon release, social media users trolled the Dulquer Salmaan starrer for the similarity in it’s plot to Nivin Pauly’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam. There were even allegations that the movie was copied from Jacobinte Swargarajyam.

Vineeth Sreenivasan, the director of Jacobinte Swargarajyam, was asked about his opinion on the allegations in a recent interview with Times Of India.

He said, “Jomonte Suvisheshangal was scripted even before Jacobinte Swargarajyam was released. I know it because I am very close to the scriptwriter Iqbal Kuttipuram. Soon after our movie was released he narrated the entire script and all I felt was that it has a common thread. Even when I watched the film I did not find any similarities with my movie. In fact, I really enjoyed watching the film, especially the Dulquer-Mukeshettan combination. I am a fan of dad-son stories. I really loved the movie.

Earlier, director Sathyan Anthikad and writer Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram made it clear that their movie was scripted even before the Vineeth Sreenivasan directorial hit screens.

Director Sathyan Anthikad had said, “People should atleast understand that a senior filmmaker like me and an acclaimed scriptwriter like Iqbal Kuttippuram will never do a movie that has similar shades to some other movie.

He also pointed out the father-son relationship stories in some of his earlier movies like Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal, Manasinakkare and Rasathanthram.

Iqbal Kuttippuram had also responded to the allegations. He said, “The basic plot of both the movies are the same but that doesn’t mean that Jomonte Suvisheshangal is copied from Jacobinte Swargarajyam. Both the movies are entirely different and apart from that this story can happen in any family.
