Ragam Take One short film contest 2017 is commencing soon

Ragam, the annual cultural fest of NIT Calicut is one of the biggest fests in India that brings talents from all over the world to their stage. This year also the organisers are conducting the famed short film contest, Take One 2017 Short Film Contest. It is the largest short film contest in South India.

The short films will be judged by an esteemed panel comprising of cine actor, director and script writer Shankar Ramakrishnan, critically acclaimed and award winning actress Sajitha Madathil and Ennu Ninte Moideen fame director R S Vimal. The winners will be awarded a cash prize worth Rs 50,000.

So, here is a great platform for all budding filmmakers out there to showcase your talent. Last date of submission of entries is February 28, 2017.

MG Sreekumar turns an actor

Popular playback singer MG Sreekumar was keeping a low profile for sometime before he returned to amaze Malayalis once again with the superhit songs in Mohanlal- Priyadarshan team’s Oppam. He lent his voice for all three songs in the movie, all three of which became chartbusters ruling the playlists for weeks.

The veteran musician is now taking up a new role in art. He has played the lead role in a short film titled MN Nambiarkku Balan K Nairil Sambhavichath. Written and directed by Subash Anchal, this short film is a satire on crime and gundaism. It also stars Sam Mathew, Dr Prasad, Jibin, Keerthy Krishna, Sherin, Krishnaveni, Adithyan, Appu, Shyju and many others. America based Mercy Samuel has bankrolled this short film.

Dialogues are written by Dr Prasad while cinematography was handled by Prakash Rana. Vijaykumar is in charge of the edits and Rani Rafel has composed the music for this short film. Art department is lead by Ramu. Gopan Sasthamangalam is the executive producer.

The short film will be released in all social media platforms by March end.

Prithviraj about Megastar Mammootty’s Karnan

Preproduction works for Prithviraj’s highly anticipated epic movie Karnan is progressing at a swift pace. A team of technicians under the supervision of director RS Vimal have been working tirelessly to ensure an uninterrupted shoot once the movie goes on floors.

While the team of Prithviraj’s Karnan is busy with their pre production works, scripting for Mammootty is also advancing. Actor/ writer P Sukumar is writing the screenplay for the movie which will reportedly be helmed by national award winning director Madhupal.

Last year, the makers of Prithviraj’s Karnan had officially announced their movie, but an official word regarding the Mammootty starrer is still awaited. Recently, Prithviraj was asked about Mammootty’s Karnan.

He said, “Let both the movies happen. I don’t have any complaints regarding that. Anyone can make a movie on Karnan’s life. So I don’t have any sort of problems with that.”

When the interviewer asked about the discussions in social medias over the two movies, he said, “I hope social medias discuss about these movies more. It will only help in publicising the movies. I just hope that these discussions won’t die down soon.”

Prithviraj’s Karnan is planned to be made on a whopping budget of 300 crores in all the major Indian languages. Apart from Prithviraj, popular stars from other industries will also be part of the cast. The technical team is currently developing the digital story board and an animated version of the whole movie. The animated visuals will help in giving a better picture about the sets, camera angles, costume designing etc. This will help in saving time and production values during the actual shoot.

Both the actors have a slew of movies in their kitty. So it is still unclear about when they will start shooting for their ‘ Karnans’ in between all this busy schedule.

The Great Father teaser fetches 50 lakh views in 3 days

Mammootty’s upcoming The Great Father’s teaser was released on February 10 to thunderous response from the viewers. The teaser has already fetched more than 50 lakh views in just three days time. This is a record for a Malayalam movie by a very big margin.

The team of Great Father used a new option called cross posting to release the teaser. Unlike the usual YouTube releases, this time the teaser was uploaded directly on Facebook. Cross posting makes it easy to post videos to multiple pages at the same time.

The teaser was shared on Mammootty, Prithviraj and Dulquer Salmaan’s official pages at a time through cross posting. Apart from these pages, eleven other pages were also used to release the teaser. Through this, even if the video is shared by others, views will be directly attached to the original video. This helps to publicise the movie to a wider audience. This new promotion method initiated by the Great Father team has turned into a huge success.

The teaser was also shown in selected theatres where Prithviraj’s Ezra was screened. The 33 second teaser features a brilliantly staged mass introduction of Mammootty. The actor is in his ultimate style with the uber cool beard, lighting a cigarette with a slow motion walk. Gopi Sunder’s background score complemented Mammootty’s towering screen presence.

The Great Father is written and directed by newbie Haneef Adeni. Mammootty is playing the character David Ninan while Sneha will be seen as his wife Michelle David in the movie. Kollywood actor Arya has played a pivotal character as Andrews Eapen in the movie. Shaam, Malavika Mohanan, IM Vijayan, Kammatipadam fame Manikandan Achari and Baby Anikha are also part of the cast.

The movie produced by August Cinemas is scheduled to hit screens on March 30.

Prithviraj’s Vimaanam directed by debutant Pradeep M Nair has finally started rolling. Prithviraj is playing the role of a deaf and mute person who builds a light weight aircraft on his own.

The movie has been in the news for a long time now. The makers of Vimaanam had earlier filed a case against Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Aby as both the movies had similar plots about an youngster who builds an aircraft on his own out of his love for flying. The case was recently judged in favour of Aby’s team.

Vimaanam is inspired from the real life of Saji Thomas, a hearing and speech impaired person from Idukki, who built a light weight aircraft on his own. But the movie is not a biography about Saji Thomas’ life. It will have an endearing romantic track also.

Vimanam will be a big budget movie involving a lot of VFX works for the flying scenes. The movie will have two time periods with Prithviraj appearing in two different looks. Reportedly, the actor will be shedding a few kilos for the movie.Prithviraj will also be taking flying courses to playing his part in the movie.

Nedumudi Venu, Sudheer Karamana, Shanthi Krishna and many other prominent supporting actors are also part of the cast.

Gopi Sunder is composing the music for this movie which will be produced by Listin Stephen.
Shoot will majorly happen in Batkal in Mangalore. Kochi and Delhi are the other locations

Several Malayali actresses like Shobhana, Asin, Nayanthara, Nazriya Nazim and more recently Keerthy Suresh have all seen great success in Tamil cinema industry.

Following this trend, another Malayali girl, Nayana Anil is making her debut in Kollywood. The movie is titled as Idi Minnal Puyal Kadha. Nayana Anil in a recent chat session with Onlookers Media opened about how she entered the industry, her ambitions and more.

Nayana Anil says, “I was one of the 20 contestants shortlisted from 3000 for the Grihalakshmi Face of Kerala contest. After seeing my photos from the event, I was offered a chance to act in an album. The next day, I was approached to be the model for an advertisement.

After that, the offer for my Tamil movie came way. They were looking for someone who had the same features as mine. They selected me after the auditions. The movie titled as Idi Minnal Puyal Kadha is produced by Shivaji Cinemas. My character in the movie has ample scope for performance.

I have also acted in an album Prana. Teaser for the album was released recently to good response from the viewers. We are now planning to release the album officially on Valentines Day. Works for another album is also progressing.

After completing the shoot for my Tamil movie, I was waiting for a good opportunity in Malayalam. Currently I am in talks for two movies, and I am hoping to commit one soon.

Malayalam cinema is witnessing a golden period. It is a period of transition where many big budget movies are being planned. Last year, Mohanlal’s action entertainer Pulimurugan became the first ever Malayalam movie to touch the 100 crore mark. The kind of success achieved by that movie was unprecedented in Mollywood. Pulimurugan’s massive success proved that big budget movies are commercially viable in Mollywood.

After the success of Pulimurugan, many big budget movies are being planned in Mollywood. Recently, Prithviraj also reiterated the fact that Pulimurugan’s massive success has inspired filmmakers to plan movies on a bigger canvas.

Mohanlal recently announced that the long awaited project Randamoozham is indeed happening and the movie will go on floors next year. It is scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair based on his novel of the same name. Popular ad filmmaker Srikumar Menon will helm this project which will be made as a multilingual in all major languages in India and English.

According to reports, apart from Mohanlal, Randamoozham will also feature some of India’s biggest stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Tamil superstar Vikram, Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Kannada superstar Shivraj Kumar, Prabhu and Manju Warrier. Mohanlal will be playing the lead role of Bheemasenan in this epic movie which is based on the Kurukshetra war from Mahabaratha. Randamoozham is said to be the most expensive movie ever in India cinema, planned to be made on a budget of 600 crores.

Prithviraj’s upcoming epic movie Karnan is being planned on a massive budget of 300 crores. R.S Vimal who debuted with the romantic blockbuster Ennu Ninte Moideen will be helming this movie. Apart from Prithviraj, some top stars from other major languages will also be playing substantial roles in the movie. The technical team of Karnan have already started their pre-production works and the digital story board works at the Ramoji Rao Film city in Hyderabad.

Chengazhi Nambiar is another big budget Malayalam movie. The movie, written and directed by debutant Sidhil Subramaniam is based on the lives of Chengazhi Nambiar, Chandroth Panicker and many other historical figures who fought against Samoothiri in Maamaankam in 1505 AD. Tovino Thomas is playing the role of Puthumana Panicker in this movie. The team has not yet released the names of other cast members. Chengazhi Nambiar is being planned as a multilingual in several languages. The movie is also planned on a grand scale with a massive budget of 100 crores. Currently the pre-production works the movie are underway.

Apart from these, some other projects are also being planned like Mohanlal- Prithviraj team’s Lucifer, Mohanlal- Jackie Chan team’s Nair San, Mammootty’s Karnan etc.

Fahadh and Sunny Wayne have previously acted together in Rajeev Ravi’s Annayum Rasoolum. The movie which had Fahadh in the lead role, was told through the narration of Sunny Wayne’s character Ashely. Realistic performances of both the actors garnered appreciation from the audience.

Fahadh has not a had a release for over one year now. His last release was the superhit movie Maheshinte Prathikaram. He is currently shooting for Rafi’s Role Models. This year he will also be making his Kollywood debut in an upcoming movie directed by Mohan Raja. Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara and Sneha are also part of the movie.

Sunny Wayne meanwhile is awaiting the release of Alamara directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas. He will next start shooting for Jijo Antony’s Pokkiri Simon Oru Kaduththa Aaraadhakan. He is playing an hardcore Vijay fan in the movie. The actor has also committed for Second Show fame Srinath Rajendran’s next movie which will be shot completely in Bangalore.
