Parents who force their kids to studies should know about Karthick Naren’s story

Karthick Naren and his debut movie Dhuruvangal 16 is currently the talk of the town. At a time when even experienced filmmakers find it difficult to deliver a decent thriller, this 21 year old director has won rave reviews for his extraordinary debut.

But all this was possible only because of his parents support. When others of his age hop from college to a white collar job or pursue their Masters in some Western countries, this guy chose to become a filmmaker. His parents supported his decision to drop out of college and pursue his passion. His father even came forward to produce the movie when Karthik was finding it difficult to find someone who can fund the movie.
Now that’s one inspiring tale for any budding filmmaker out there.

Karthick Naren recently shared his happiness about the inauguration of his production house Knight M Nostalgia Films. The post reads,

Whenever I mentioned ‘own production’ I meant this man’s hard earned money. Being a double PhD holder he was ok with his son discontinuing college & venturing into film industry. He just said, “it’s your life your career. I don’t want to interfere in that. I will support whatever decision you make”. Whole heartedly sent me off to chennai & was the only soul to believe in me when nobody else did. Inauguration of KNF. Proud son

Dhuruvangal 16 is an investigative thriller which had veteran actor Rahman in the lead role. Apart from him, the movie didn’t have any other big star as part of its cast. But Karthick’s intelligent filmmaking backed by good technical support from his crew did wonders.

The movie, released on January 29 was opened to great reviews from both the critics and the common audience. Even with the release of biggies like Bairavaa, Kaabil and Raees, the movie has managed to hold steady and is now nearing its 50 days theatrical run in Tamil Nadu. Unfortunately, the movie did not release in Kerala due to some issues with the distribution rights.

Sulfath is the reason for Mammootty’s success : Maniyanpilla Raju

It’s been 38 years since Mammootty married Sulfath but the two are still one of the most envious couples in the industry. Recently, actor Maniyanpilla Raju had an interesting incident to share about the couple.

Once we were shooting for IV Sasi’s movie Athrithram. One of our co-stars was getting married in the next few days. He asked me for some financial help but honestly, I didn’t have enough money during that time. So I went to Mammookka and told about it. He called the actor to his room and scolded him. He said, “you should have come to me if you needed any help.” Mammootty gave him 3000 rupees from his pocket. I was a witness to all this. Mammootty told this to his wife Sulfath. She scolded him for giving only 3000 rupees and said that he should have given atleast 10,000 rupees.

He continued, “If we take a list of the world’s best five wives, Sulfath will definitely be one among them. Because I haven’t seen anyone more courteous and polite than her. She is the reason behind Mammootty and his kids’ success. She is a very good wife and a great mother. She is also very friendly and respects everyone.

Their two children, Dulquer Salmaan and Surumi are both successful in their respective careers. While Dulquer followed his father’s footsteps as an actor, Surumi takes care of their hospital works along with her passion in painting.

Mammootty’s performance moved me to tears: Siddique

Director Siddique is one of the very few senior filmmakers who is still in the limelight doing successful movies. He has teamed up with Megastar Mammootty for superhit movies like Hitler, Chronic Bachelor and Bhaskar The Rascal.

Bhaskar The Rascal released in 2015 was a huge commercial success. The movie had Mammootty playing the titular role of Bhaskar, a rich businessman who is also a single parent. Nayantara played the female lead while Sanoop Santhosh and Baby Anikha played their kids respectively.

The movie had some emotional scenes to it’s credit and Mammootty as usual displayed his amazing acting skills. Recently director Siddique shared a very interesting incident while shooting for the movie.

In a particular scene in the movie, Sanoop Santhosh’s character asks his father Bhaskar (Mammootty) about his mother, who passed away soon after he was born. Siddique while briefing the scene to Mammootty, asked to him to give a slight pause, when the kid asks about his mom, and then deliver the dialogue.

Mammootty who is known for handling such emotional scenes with perfection delivered a notch better than what the director wanted. Siddique in the interview said, he was moved to tears with Mammootty’s performance.

Singam 3 Review aka Si3 Review

Singam 3 Review aka Si3 Review

Suriya is back as Durai Singam, the forthright cop known to put an end to social menaces come what may. Singam 3  aka Si3 is no different from the first two parts, the sole purpose of the movie is to provide entertainment, and the movie somewhat succeeds in that.

Singam 3 is the usual commercial potboiler largely aimed at Suriya fans and people who enjoy watching masala flicks. Director Hari has developed an interesting plot and cleverly wielded it into a racy screenplay. But all that is spoilt with the execution part thanks to the ridiculous comedy tracks and the forced in songs.

Suriya has given his usual best with a power packed performance. The energy level he maintains throughout the movie is indeed commendable. Like the previous part, Singam 3 also has two female leads-Anushka and Shruthi Haasan. It is still not clear why Hari has used a two heroine formula again as we have seen enough of the deep romance between Durai Singam and Anushka’s Kavya in the first two parts.

Shruthi Haasan’s performance was very much mediocre especially her comdey scenes with Soori. The usually dependable Anushka had nothing substantial to offer here.

On the technical side, editing by the veteran VT Vijayan and TS Jay was just like any other Hari movie, crisp and sharp. But the pattern of cuts looked unpleasant at many scenes. Harris Jayaraj’s songs fails to create an impact, same was the case with the loud and noisy background score.

On a whole, Singam 3 should satisfy the hardcore fans of Suriya, the “star”. Others have a choice.

Vinayakan gets a recognition that even our superstars have not received

Vinayakan has been in the film industry for more than 15 years now. But the actual acceptance came for him only after the release of Rajeev Ravi’s Kammatipadam, last year. The actor won rave reviews for his performance as Ganga, a character with grey shades who is haunted by his past.

Vinayakan’s portrayal of Ganga is rated as one of the finest by any Mollywood actor in recent times. But unfortunately that actor has not got the due recognition from the juries in most award shows. Social media users have raised their voices against the injustice to Vinayakan.

But his popularity among the masses was seen in the recently concluded Koottanad fest. In the customary procession, Vinayakan’s photo was risen along with the posters of late Cuban president Fidel Castro and former Indian president Abdul Kalam. This is a kind of recognition that even the biggest superstars of Malayalam film industry have not received.

For someone who has acted in all the South Indian languages for the past 15 years, it is quite a late acceptance. Vinayakan is an actor who has largely been underutilized by the Mollywood filmmakers.

After his stunning performance in Kammatipadam, the actor will be next seen in Rafi- Fahadh Faasil team’s upcoming movie Role Models. He has also bagged a plum role in Ordinary fame Sugeeth’s upcoming movie that has Kunchacko Boban in the lead.

Can Suriya beat Vijay’s box office collections?

Suriya’s much anticipated Singam 3 has finally released today after a lot of postponing. The movie directed by Hari, is the third installment in the popular Singam franchise. Suriya is once again stepping into Durai Singam’s shoes and naturally expectations are on the higher side.

In Kerala, the movie is releasing in 218 screens (screens added in the last minute is not taken into account). Suriya’s movies normally have good openings in Kerala but after the inital rush, there has always been a steady fall in the audience count. Singam 3 is also expected to have a good opening. But, the question is can Singam 3 beat the collections of Vijay’s movies in Kerala.

Both the actors enjoy massive fan following in the State. But Vijay’s movies along with great openings also gets extended theaterical run. Interestingly, Vijay has three of his movies in the top 10 highest first day grossers in Kerala.

Jilla finds its name in the fourth spot in the list of highest first day grossers. The movie starring Mohanlal and Vijay in the lead roles grossed a whopping 2.61 crores on its opening day. Last year’s blockbuster movie, Theri stands sixth in the list with 2.4 crores. Vijay- AR Murugadoss team’s Kaththi had grossed 2.24 crore on its opening day and is placed eighth in the list.

Incidentally, none of Suriya’s movies are in the top 10. So the actor will be hoping to storm the box office with his latest outing Singam 3. While Singam was a commercial success in Kerala, the second part could only do average business.

Singam 3 has released amid good hype in a whopping 218 screens. So the movie stands a good chance to create waves in the Kerala box office. Stay tuned for the collection reports.
