Kanneshwara : Mohanlal to act with Kannada superstar Upendra

After delivering blockbusters in Tollywood and Mollywood, Mohanlal is now moving to Sandalwood for an upcoming project.

Mohanlal will join hands with actor/director Upendra aka Uppi for a new film tentatively titled as Kanneshwara. This movie will be directed by Naganna.

Though the title sounds like a devotional kind of movie, sources indicate that it is a completely commercial entertainer. Shoot for the movie has already been started in Bangalore.

Earlier it was rumoured that Upendra will be acting in the remake of Bollywood’s superhit movie Special 26 which had Akshay Kumar in the lead. But it is learnt that he will be first doing Kanneshwara before moving to other projects.

Mohanlal’s last movie in Kannada was Mythri with superstar Puneeth Rajkumar. It was widely acclaimed as one of the best movies Kannada industry.

So naturally when Mohanlal is again joining hands with another popular actor of Sandalwood, expectations are very high. It will be a treat for fans of both the actors to watch two superstars together on screen.

Popular South Indian actress Vedhika will play the female lead in this film. Sources inform that the female lead is also a very important character in the movie.

The makers are planning to produce the movie as a multilingual. With Mohanlal’s rising popularity in Tollywood, the makers are trying to make the movie in Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.

Mohanlal made his debut in Tollywood this year with Vismayam. His second movie Janatha Garage with Jr NTR was a smashing blockbuster collecting over 100 crores from the box office.

His last two releases in Mollywood, Oppam and Pulimurugan are also blockbusters with the latter becoming the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club.

Mohanlal is currently shooting for Major Ravi’s upcoming movie 1971 : Beyond Borders in Rajasthan. Munthiri Vallikalal Thalirkkumbol directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob is his next release, slated to grace screens for the Christmas season.

Pulimurugan, the Mohanlal starrer had took the south Indian box office by storm and re-writing not only the box office records in Mollywood, but also the records in South Indian film industry as a whole.

It had become the highest grosser from South India in New Zealand and all set to become the biggest South Indian grosser at UAE/GCC area.

Now, a report is coming in that in UK as well it is surpassing records set by Kollywood stars earlier. As per the latest trade reports, Puli Murugan had surpassed the highest grossers of Thala Ajith and Suriya at UK last day.

Pulimurugan had released in UK on November 4th and became a sensational success there. Till this last Sunday, it had grossed over 194K Pounds from there and it is from reported locations alone.

Thus, it had surpassed all previous records in Mollywood and on the way it had surpassed the records of Ajith and Suriya there.

The previous record holders from Malayalam there was Two Countries (106K), Bangalore Days (105K), Drishyam (99K) and Oppam (84K). Pulimurugan had already reached way ahead of them in just 10 days time and expecting a huge figure from there by the time it finishes its run there.

The film is still running in a great number of screens all across UK.

Pulimurugan to become the highest South Indian Grosser ever in UAE/GCC market by surpassing Kabali

Pulimurugan, the Mohanlal starrer not only become the biggest Mollywood grosser ever in Kerala and other worldwide markets, but also the highest South Indian grosser ever in many overseas markets.

As you all know, it had already become the highest grosser from South India at New Zealand and it had surpassed the collection records set there by movie like Theri and Ai from Vijay and Vikram respectively.

Now, the film is all set to surpass the record set by Super Star Rajinikanth movie Kabali at UAE/GCC market and become the biggest ever South Indian grosser in that part of the world.

Kabali had grossed around 27 crores from there in its lifetime run and Pulimurugan had already grossed near 25 crores from there in just 10 day time. It had grossed over 17 crores from UAE market alone in 10 days.

From Bahrain it grossed 1.94 crore from 10 days and from Kuwait it grossed 1.88 crores. Qatar contributed 2.12 crore and Oman contributed 1.60 crore from 10 day.

The total figure from UAE/GCC market from 10 days is 24.77 crore. Within a few days it will cross the 27 crore mark and will surpass Kabali. The distributors are expecting a lifetime figure around 35 crore for the movie from there.

Asiavision movie awards for this year have been announced. Jacobinte Swargarajyam is selected as the best movie of the year. Nivin Pauly is the best actor for his performance in Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Action Hero Biju. Manju Warrier is the best actress for Vettah and Karinkunnam 6s.

Priyadarshan is selected as the best director for his movie Oppam. Kunchacko Boban is the man of the year. Legendary music director AK Arjunan will be awarded the Life time achievement award.

Mohanlal is the most popular actor for delivering blockbusters Oppam and Pulimurugan while Pulimurugan is the most popular movie.

Manikandan Achari is selected as the best second actor for his amazing performance in Kammatipadam. Aju Varghese is the supporting actor of the year for Ann Maria Kalipilanu.

In the best performance category : Tovino Thomas is the best actor for Guppy. Vedhika is the best actress for James and Alice. Excellence award is given to Asha Sharath for the movies Anuraga Karikkin Vellam and Paavada. Renji Panicker is the best character actor for the year.

In the new generation category, Shane Nigam is the best actor for Kismath while Aparna Balamurali is the best actress for Maheshinte Prathikaram. Kabir Bedi is the best villian for Anarkali. M G Sreekumar is the playback singer (male) for the song Chinamma in Oppam. KS Chithra is the female playback singer of the year for her songs in Pulimurugan and Thoppil Joppan.

Future prospect male is awarded to Gokul Suresh Gopi and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame Rajisha Vijayan. Rajeev Pillai and Sijoy bagged the special jury award for their roles in Oru Muthassi Gadha and James and Alice respectively. Future singer is awarded to Baby Shreya for Oppam.

Shaji Kumar is the cinematographer of the year for Pulimurugan. Sonam Kapoor is the icon of the year and best Bollywood actress.

In the Tamil movies category, Vijay Sethupathy is the best actor for Dharmadurai while Tamannaah Bhatia won the best actress for the same movie. Seenu Ramasamy is the best director again for the same movie. R K Suresh is the best villain for Thara Thapattai and Marudhu. Special performance award for Radhika Apte for the movie Kabali.
Ramcharan is the youth icon of the year while Amy Jackson is awarded for excellence in Indian Cinema. Baby Nainika is the best child actor for Theri. Sid Sriram is the best singer.

The award function is scheduled to be held on November 18 in the Sharjah cricket stadium. Many film personalities from all over India will be present for the event.

The awards were selected through an online poll conducted by the channel. Singer Karthik, Paris Lakshmi, Aparna Balamurali, Shamna Kasim, D for Dance fame Afsal, Kavya Ajith, Ramzan, Azeer, Banu Prathap Singh, Ann Amy, Nithya Aparna will perform during the award night.

Suriya’s Singam 3 release date confirmed 

Suriya’s upcoming movie Singam 3 will release on December 16 as a Christmas release. Singam 3 aka S3 is the third installment of the popular franchise Singam series. The movie is directed by Hari who also made the earlier two parts.

Suriya continues to play his role of the forthright and outspoken cop Durai Singam in S 3. Shruti Hassan and Anushka Shetty are playing the female leads in the movie.

Director Hari is now working on the final few patch works of the movie. Recently in an interview, the director said that, initially he did not plan to make a third part to Singam. He wanted to make another movie with Suriya with a different premise. But a large section of the audience wanted him to do another movie in the Singam series.

So he worked on a plot for the next installment. He got a very interesting subject that he believed could ensure a hat-trick success. After hearing the script, Suriya also immediately accepted to do the movie.

Hari has said that S3 will be a totally new movie on a whole new level. Even though the film is a continuation of the first two parts, there will be many new things in the movie. He added that they have incorporated many new things different from the earlier parts. This movie happens in an international level.

The movie also stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Soori, Nithin Sathya, Robo Shankar, Krish and Chaams in other supporting roles.

Teaser for the movie was released last week to mixed response. Many people criticized its over the top background music and flashy cuts. Harris Jayaraj composed the music for this mass entertainer.

Singam 3 is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under the banner Studio Green and Aadnah Arts.

Young filmmaker Midhun Manuel Thomas recently announced his upcoming movie titled Alamara. Alamara will have Sunny Wayne, Aju Varghese and Renji Panicker playing the lead roles. Shoot for the movie was started today in Bangalore.

Midhun Manuel Thomas in a recent interview shared interesting details about a possible sequel to Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu, his debut movie.

Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu released last year was a box office failure but the movie garnered a huge fan following after the release of the DVDs. There are many fans for Shaji Pappan and the gang who have been waiting to hear about a sequel to the movie.

Midhun Manuel Thomas said that he had earlier planned to start works for the sequel this year but he could not get an exciting script that could please the audience.

He also said that he will definitely do the sequel once he gets an interesting script. Shaji Pappan and his gang are hugely popular among the netizens of Kerala. The director says that people will not forget the characters that easily because of the various troll pages in Malayalam.

Midhun Manuel Thomas  entered the film industry writing the story and screenplay for the romantic blockbuster Om Shanti Oshana. He later debuted as a director with Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu. This out and out comedy entertainer had Jayasurya, Saiju Kurup, Dharmajan and a host of other actors.

His last release was Ann Maria Kalipilanu, a family entertainer that had Deiva Thirumagal fame Sara Arjun playing the title character. Sunny Wayne played the main lead while Dulquer Salmaan did a cameo in the movie.

Malayalam cinema has time and again suffered due to the clashes between various organizations.

Organizations like actors association, producers association, directors union, theatre owners federation, distributors union have all frequently clashed with each other ultimately affecting the prospects of the industry.

This time the Exhibit Federation have demanded for half the shares of the theatrical collections. The distributors and producers union are against this. They allege that the Federation has breached the regulations that both parties have earlier agreed upon.

As a result film production will be stopped in Mollywood from December 18. This will directly affect the release of almost 20 movies scheduled to release during the Christmas season. Stopping the shoot tentatively can have great impact and incur huge commercial losses for many people.

The film industry is already suffering badly due to the government’s decision of demonetizing the higher denomination currency. Many movies scheduled to release last week have been postponed.

Mohanlal had took south Indian box office by storm this year. We can say he had just become the most valuable star in South India within just 2 month time by doing 300 crore business in box office with 3 films of him.

From September 1st to November 13th, 3 films of him had released. The first one is a Tollywood movie named Janata Garage in which Mohanlal and Jr NTR played the lead roles. It was one of the all-time biggest blockbusters in Tollywood and occupied the 3rd position in the all-time biggest grossing movie list there.

It had collected over 140 crores from its worldwide run. Then came the Malayalam movie Oppam, which released on the 8th of September. The film is still running and had grossed over 60 crores from its worldwide run till now.

Then came the biggest of them all. On October 7th, his movie Pulimurugan had released all over and it had become the first ever Malayalam movie to gross 100 crore at box office.

Till now, the movie had grossed around 110 crore and the total business done by the movie is around 125 crore as well.

Thus with these 3 consecutive blockbusters in 75 day time, Mohanlal had contributed over 300 crores to South Indian Box office. It’s incredible to say the very least.

High expectations for Aadujeevitham, will be made in 3D

We had earlier in the week reported that director Blessy will be directing a movie titled Aadujeevitham based on writer Benyamin’s famous novel of the same name.

Prithviraj Sukumaran will play the lead in this movie which is about the life of an abused migrant worker in Saudi Arabia. He will be playing the character Najeeb Mohammed from the novel.

Aadujeevitham (Goat Days) is an award winning novel. The book won the prestigious Kerala Sahitya Akademi award in the year 2009.

Blessy’s feature film will be a multilingual made in three languages, Malayalam,Tamil and Hindi. The movie will be made in 3D format. Aadu Jeevitham is produced by GM Film Company.

Director Blessy has a penchant for movies with strong emotional content that can move the audience. Some of his works like Kaazhcha, Thanmathra, Pranayam and Bhramaram are all widely acclaimed movies.

Aadujeevitham will be a similar movie but with an entirely treatment. This is the first time Prithviraj is working with Blessy.

When a director like Blessy joins hands with one of the best actors in Mollywood, expectations are naturally very high. Prithviraj has proven his mettle in movies with emotional content like Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil, Celluloid and more recently in the romantic blockbuster Ennu Ninte Moideen.

Prithviraj has a slew of projects lined up. He is currently busy for the Hindi movie Naam Shabaana which is a prequel to Akshay Kumar’s action blockbuster film Baby. The shoot is happening in Malaysia.

After that he will start shooting for his next movie My Story directed by debutant Roshni Dinaker. Major portions of the movie will be filmed in Portugal. He will also start shooting for R S Vimal’s magnum opus Karnan by March next year.
