The much-awaited first-look poster of Suriya’s Kanguva is out today as a part of the actor’s birthday celebration. The poster looks great, and Suriya’s look from the film is now getting fabulous responses from all over. He is playing a King in this period action drama, and his look as a warrior king is terrific, to say the least.

The first glimpse of this film was also released a few hours ago, and it has already created waves on social media platforms. This Siva-directed action movie will be released in two parts and it has been made on a budget of 350 crores. The first part of this flick will grace screens worldwide in April 2024, and it will be out in 3D format and in 10 languages as well.

Studio Green and UV Creations are together bankrolling this ambitious project, and Kanguva is the biggest film in Suriya’s career now. Bollywood actress Disha Pattani plays the female lead in Kanguva, and the sensational Devi Sri Prasad is the music director. Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial flick, Leo, starring Vijay in the lead role, is now one of the most hyped films in South Indian Cinema. This action drama finished its filming a few days ago, and now its post-production is in full swing. The movie will hit the screens on October 19th this year, and it will get the biggest release in Vijay’s career till now.

But now, as per the latest reports coming in from the Telugu film industry, two big Telugu films will give Leo a tough challenge, especially in the overseas market. Nandamuri Balakrishna aka Balayya’s big-budget action thriller Bhagavanth Kesari is also releasing on October 19th, and it is expected to get a big release in the overseas market owing to the rising stardom of Balayya over there.

Along with Bhagavanth Kesari, Ravi Teja’s Tiger Nageswara Rao, which will be the biggest film in his career, will hit the screens on October 20th. Rajinikanth’s Jailer Audio Launch date has officially been announced.

The much-awaited Tamil film of this year, Rajinikanth starrer Jailer, is all set to release on August 10th. Before that, there will be a grand and star-studded audio launch function, and its date has been officially announced today by Sun Pictures.

The audio launch of this film will be conducted on July 28th at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Superstars like Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar will attend the function along with the leading man, Rajinikanth. Both Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar play extended cameos in this film.

Anirudh Ravichander is the music director of Jailer, and already two singles from the film are ruling the music charts. Jailer is the fourth directorial venture of Nelson Dilipkumar, who gave us films like Kolamavu Kokila, Doctor, and Beast. Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, etc. also play important characters in this film. The 53rd Kerala State Film Awards were announced this evening by Honourable Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Saji Cherian. The award has been decided by the Malayalam Films that were released or censored in 2022. Mammootty won the Best Actor award for his performance in Lijo Jose Pellisserry’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, and Vincy Aloysius bagged the Best Actress award for the movie Rekha. Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam won the award for best film, and Mahesh Narayanan won the best director award for the movie Ariyippu.

Kunchacko Boban and Alencier Ley Lopez won special jury awards for their performances in Nna Thaan Case Kodu and Appan, respectively. Nna Thaan Case Kodu won seven awards, including best screenplay and Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value.

2018 Review: A fitting tribute to Kerala’s real heroes

When Jude Anthany Joseph first announced a film on the devastating Kerala floods of 2018, many thought it would be just another film to milk a tragedy. How wrong were they? After battling numerous obstacles enroute, Jude and his team have delivered a film that’s on par with any international survival thriller. Any Malayali who watches the film will have a hard time controlling the tears. That’s the kind of emotional connect this film achieves.

Jude and his co-writer Akhil P Dharmajan have conceived this film as a tribute to all Keralites, especially the fishermen community who were played a major part in the rescue operations. Though it’s a hyperlink narrative with several characters, the writing is simple (at times forumlaic) and easily understandable to the layman. The focus is more on the making, and the team has done an extraordinary job with that. With Malayalam cinema’s budget constraints, it’s unbelievable how the makers have pulled off such an output. Production designer Mohandas, cinematographer Akhil George, editor Chaman Chacko, composer Noble Paul and each and every crew member deserves a loud round of applause for their incredible efforts.

On the performance side, it’s Tovino Thomas who gets the most prominent character. His arc from an army man, who runs away from service, becoming a local hero during a crisis situation works wonderfully well. Asif Ali also gets a similar transformative arc. The best of intros and whistelworthy scenes are reserved for Lal and Narian though. They represent the fishermen community, and the opening they get is one of the most heroic ever in Malayalam cinema. There are also a few other subtracks involving Kunchacko Boban, Vineeth Sreenivaan, Aparna Balamurali and Kalaiyarasan. Another brilliant track features an outstanding Sudheesh and Gilu Joseph, who fight hard for survival in a flooded house. It’s one of the most tense portions in the film, and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

When films intended to spread hatred against Kerala and its people masquerade as ‘Kerala Story’, ‘2018’ emerges as the Real Kerala Story that celebrates the spirit of oneness and brotherhood among Keralites from different walks of life. It’s not about hate, it’s about hope.
