Kamal Haasan next to do a Malayalam-Tamil project with TK Rajeev Kumar
The universal hero of Indian cinema, Kamal Haasan is waiting for the release of his upcoming film named Thoongavanam. The two trailers of the film has been received well by the audience and now everyone has great anticipation over the film which is the official remake of the French film Sleepless Night. The flick has been directed by Rajesh M Selva and had a great supporting star cast of Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Asha Sharath etc as well. The flick has been coming in Tamil and Telugu language and is financed by his own Rajkamal films international in association with Gokulam movies.
Now the reports are coming in that Kamal Haasan is all set to do a Malayalam-Tamil bilingual film next and that film will be directed by popular Malayalam director TK Rajeev Kumar. TK Rajeev Kumar was made his debut as an independent director through the film named Chanakyan in 1989 in which Kamal Haasan played the lead role. Now they are going to be united after 26 years of gap.
TK Rajeev Kumar had got the best director award in film fare awards and Kerala film critics award for that film named Chanakyan. Later he had done many films in Malayalam and had done some films in Bollywood as well and most of them are remakes of popular Malayalam films. He never did a tamil film in his career and this kamala hasan starrer upcoming bilingual will be his first Tamil film as well.
Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 is also said to be ready for release and only some minor post production works are pending for the film. Unlike the usual Kamal Haasan method, he is doing continuous films now-a-days. There have been reports that Kamal Haasan wants to do films with Jeethu Joseph after Papanasham and Rajesh M Selva after Thoongavanam as well. There is also reports that he wanted to do a film along with Mohanlal in which both of them plays lead roles.
Vijayakanth making a movie similar to Baahubali for his son
Vijayakanth is planning to make a movie alike of Baahubali for his son. As Baahubali was well received by the audience everywhere all over the world, after watching the movie, Vijayakanth also thought about doing a movie like this casting his son. Vijayakanth younger son Shanmuga Pandian will be casted in this movie. And this movie alike of Baahubali will be dealing with a mythological story. As per reports, Vijayakanth will be the producer of this movie too. They are also planning to bring Tamannaah for the female role who did an extraordinary performance in Baahubali.
This project is planned for Shanmuga Pandian whose debut movie was not a success and hopes for a great start with this project with his father Vijayakanth. Vijayakanth who is popularly known as Captain Vijayakanth was a leading star in the early 80’s and 90’s. Vijayakanth is planning this project to give a successful project for his son which will mark his entry in Kollywood industry. Vijayakanth is a much-celebrated celebrity and politician is he was always among the people.
He has done more than 150 films and is one among the stars who has only acted in Tamil films. Some of the films has been dubbed later into Telugu and Hindi. With his performance in the movie Captain Prabhakaran in 1991, he came to be known as Captain Vijayakanth. Another major movie of his is Vaanathaippola which was a huge hit and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Vijayakanth is accredited with many recognitions including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1986. He was also awarded the Best Citizen by the Indian Government in 2001. Since Shanmuga Pandian is looking for a success from this movie, Vijayakanth will be working more on the project as to make a visual treat like Baahubali was made. Maybe it’s because of that reason why Vijayakanth thought of doing a movie alike of Baahubali for his son. He has thought of the idea where this project can be massively entertaining and special like Baahubali by SS Rajamouli. Hope this project comes out well and Vijayakanth’s hard work for making his son an actor succeeds with this upcoming project.

Making Mahabharatha into a movie is my dream, says SS Rajamouli
The new updates about the veteran director SS Rajamouli is his dream of making the epic Mahabharatha into the silver screen. This dream of him was revealed at a function in IIT Madras when he was talking to the students. There has always been a hype about Rajamouli’s upcoming projects as the successful projects he has given so far is impeccably amazing and is truly a visual treat. So this news about his dream is also a much-discussed topic now.
He also said that this movie will be made in four parts within six years of time and this Mahabharata project will have new faces playing the characters. As a reason, this master director said that he believes no star will be available or give date for him for continuous six years for a project. Before this, there has been also reports that after Baahubali- The Conclusion he will be working on the project Garuda which will have major actors in the prominent roles.

For Malayalees, the important thing we wanted to know was whether the superstar Mohanlal will have a project with SS Rajamouli or not. And there has been reports from close sources to Mohanlal that SS Rajamouli’s 2018-2019 project Garuda supposedly has Mohanlal playing the role of Bheema. Until these news are confirmed by Rajamouli himself we cannot believe the fact if Rajamouli- Mohanlal project materialize. As per latest updates, this Mahabharat project of Rajamouli has not yet started and he is presently busy with the Baahubali 2 shootings. It was also revealed before that Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad will be writing the script for Garuda, just like he did for Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The reports about Garuda also said that this project will have a whopping amount of 1000 crores, as he wants it to be the best. We never know if these projects are the same or not, but the reports are still coming in for this massive projects of this massive director. Anyway, let’s hope all these are different projects and will surely come to the silver screen when it’s time.
So now let’s wait for Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 which will be released next year and stay tuned for more updates.
Premam completes 150 days at Sree Visakh theater
The Premam fever is still on and it has completed 150 days at Sree Vishakh theatre, Thiruvananthapuram. Even though the movie faced many allegations regarding its theme and story the movie got good reception from audience. The movie’s censor print issue was also a burning issue in Kerala when the movie was running successfully in all theatres. Even if all these happened the movie still got warm welcome from the audience that the team succeeded in completing its 150 days. The young audience is the people who made this movie a big success, they watched it 6-7 times which really helped Premam team to grab more collection. Premam has successfully placed themselves one among the top grossing list.
When Premam got released and received good reception from everywhere, people were discussing about Premam surpassing Drishyam record. And it has truly surpassed Drishyam in somethings like the first 60 days Premam shows were all houseful, the extra show at midnight 12 every day making six shows in total. Not even Drishyam had these much houseful shows when compared to Premam. No other movie has got this much hype like Premam got, even though it had many issues on its way to the amazing collection and it has surely slowed down the collection Premam would have made in the initials. But this could be history as after facing this much allegations the movie is still in theatres completing 150 days. So we can think if the movie was not accused of anything it would have gone for a successful 200 or 250 days at many theatres.
The success was celebrated by Nivin Pauly saying he is so happy that my first movie Malarvadi Arts Club completed its 100 day run at Sree Visakh and after that my other movies Thattathin Marayathu and Banglore Days also was shown for 125 days and now Premam setting new records completing its 150 days. The producer of the movie Anwar Rasheed thanked Sree Visakh theatre for showing the film and promoting the movie to its 150 days even though the movie was attacked with censor copy prints which got spreading on its 50th day.
The theatre owner of Sree Visakh, Visakh Subramaniam said that the movie is still running at Sree Visakh for noon show and on Saturday and Sunday the theatre is houseful for Premam. He also added that if the movie was not attacked by any allegations or censor copy issue the movie would have run successfully for 250 days and for the 100 days the movie would have got houseful. The movie celebrated its 150 days with the residents from Sree Chithra Home and Mahila Mandiram. This success of Premam shows the love it has received from Kerala and this is clearly a message which conveys good and entertaining cinema make Malayalam industry evergreen.
Kanal Review
Kanal, the Shikkar team’s much awaited movie had graced the silver screens of Kerala today. Mohanlal playing the lead role in this film directed by M Padmakumar and scripted by Suresh Babu. This team had already won the hearts of Malayali audience way back in 2010 when they came up with a film named Shikkar, which was one of the big successes of that year. So when they are reuniting after 5 years for another film expectations are bound to be there from the audience and when the name Mohanlal is there we not have to go and find another reason for high expectations on a film from the side of Malayalee audience.
In the film the central character played by Mohanlal is named as John David and the film is playing around 3 other characters as well played by Anoop Menon, Pratap Pothen and Atul Kulklarni. John David meets a man in a train journey. His name is Anantha Raman played by Anoop Menon. He is fed up with some financial as well as family problems and John David took him with him offering him help. But that was indeed a trap and the film tells why, what and how trap was set by John David.
And have to say at first that Kanal is a great comeback of Mohanlal as an actor. He is producing box office successes every year and this year too he has two super hits. But what he is not getting was that a role in which he can show us what he is capable of. And John David in Kanal was one like that. Mohanlal once again showed that why he is been hailing as the finest actor in the country. His subtle expressions, smiles which carries lot of meaning, deep looks, blink of eyelids and with every possible way he amazed us with his marvelous performance. Anoop Menon was another one who got claps for his performance. He had equal screen space in the film with the hero Mohanlal and he really stood up with the legend with great performance.
Suresh Babu’s screenplay was superb and the narration was tight as well. The flick has a mystery element working in it throughout the narration as well. Padmakumar once again proved that if he is provided with a good script, he is one of the best director in Mollywood. The climax part itself shows his caliber as a director and he had made it amazingly well. The flick not have much mass masala elements but tried to tell a relevant subject regarding the paid news system in our media culture. The slow pace of the film may feel as a negative to some but from the beginning to the end the film had maintained that pace. That slow pace does not make you bored as well as it is the need of the narration style.
Ouseppachan and Vinu thomas had composed the music which is not sublime but not bad as well. Songs here and there made the flow of the film a little slow but the flick had recovered well due to its good narration. Vinod Elampally’s DOP was superb and Renjan Abraham’s editing was crisp as well. The flick has been produced by Abraham Mathew under the banner of ABBAM movies and distributed by Maxlab.
Kanal in total is a film full of pure class. The performance, scripting and direction was superb. If you go to watch Kanal with an expectation of an entertainer it may not be as entertaining as a festival flick. But if you want to watch a film which tells a class subject in a classy way and which will not bore you then KANAL is for you all. We recommend it for you as good films are always a pleasure to watch.

Lanchi Velayudhan’s family against film Pathemari
The new release of Mammootty’s Pathemari by Salim Ahamed is facing a new accusation from the Lanchi Velayudhan family. The reason the family has pointed out is that the film has portrayed Lanchi Velayudhan in a bad way which is really hurting the family and people who know him. The family is asking the director to edit the scenes where Lanchi Velayudhan’s life is portrayed badly and if they refuses to do the necessary and continues the show, the family has announced they will be taking legal action.The people who has come up with this issue is said to be Lanchi Velayudhan’s family from Chettuva, Thrissur.
The family has also said that Lanchi Velayudhan was a person who helped many to go to Gulf countries and make something for a living. But he could not help himself to get out of his economic problems. Velayudhan’s family has raised their voice against this movie because they think that Velayudhan never bowed his head until he died and in the movie when he was portrayed in the same name it was like harassing and degrading his name.
They are also demanding that the movie has to cut down scenes which shows Velayudhan give up his mental state. And the director has come up with a reply to all these saying the character and the story are all fictitious and they only tried to portray Lanchi Velayudhan’s humanity in the film. He also said that it is sad that such an allegation came from Velayudhan’s family. In the film the role of Lanchi Velayudhan was played by Siddique.
Lanchi Velayudhan died in 2005 and this movie was actually made on the life story shared by this person to the director. Talking to many people who were on this ride to Gulf the director Salim Ahamed made it to the silver screen. For Salim Ahamed this is truly a tribute for all the people who are connected with the story even though it is fictitious. Hope the family understands the director and accept this film. Pathemari created some good waves when it was selected to compete with this year’s official Oscar entry from India. That news really did well for the movie as it invited a lot of hopes and movie lovers to watch it at the theaters.
Vikram all set to do a Malayalam film soon
If the reports coming in the medias are to be believed, Kollywood star Chiyan Vikram will do a Malayalam film very soon. As per reports Vikram is hearing many Malayalam scripts and as per sources close to him he already liked one and given his nod to proceed with the pre- production works of the film. Yesterday Vikram’s film directed by Vijay Milton had released and its name is 10 Enradhukulla. The film is getting only an average response here and only ends up as a big success if the Tamilnadu audience will take it up as their own. But While Diwali films like Thala Ajith’s Vedhalam releasing there in November, the chances are dim that this film will end up as a success in box office.
Vikram had acted in some Malayalam films early in his career while was just growing as an actor. He had one 3 films which had mammootty in the lead. They are Sainyam, Indraprastham and Dhruvam. His last film in Malayalam was Indriyam. When he came to Kerala for the promotion of his previous film ‘Ai’ directed by Shankar he said that he likes to act along with Mammootty again as he had done some roles with him in the past in Malayalam.
Vikram also a big fan of Mohanlal says that he always wishes to act along with him and as an actor he wants to do characters Mohanlal did in his career such as Rameshan Nair in Thanmathra or George Kutty in Drishyam. Vikram had a plan to act in the remake of Drishyam in Tamil, but it went to Kamal Haasan. He also once told that his wife who is a Malayali girls is a diehard Mohanlal fan and always criticizes him comparing his acting with Mohanlal.
There was news earlier that Vikram may do a film with director Blessey and it is said to be the film version of the popular novel Adu Jeevitham by Benyamin. Later the news died as it was a rumor. Vikram who is known for his great dedication level for the perfection of his film is now set for a great character in Malayalam cinema hopefully.
Huge fan base will not guarantee the success of a film says Kunchacko Boban
Kunchacko Boban, who is an evergreen Romantic hero of Mollywood once. But he is made his intentions clear for the last few years that he did not want to be tagged as a romantic hero but he wants himself to become an actor who can do any kind of characters. That effort is evident in the selection of his films last few years and this year too that selection had brought him 2 successes even though it was not a big one. But he had to say something regarding the success of a film. Kunchacko Boban says that huge fan base to the leading actor in a film does not guarantee success to that film if the screenplay and direction goes haywire.
Kunchacko Boban says that recently many films made its way in to the success list of Mollywood this year and in that there films of super stars like Mohanlal, Mammooty and many films of young stars like Prithviraj, Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali and Kunchacko Bobabn’s also there. But he says that these films become a success not due to the fan base of these actors but due to the fact that the screenplays of those films had a quality of its own and directors made it well. That is why some of the become successes and some went to break record in box office.
Kunchacko Boban is now satisfied with the characters he is been offered and he is very happy now as an actor. His recent Film Lord Livingstone offered him a different character in his career and he got appreciation as well for playing it perfectly. Kunchacko Boban says that he is now not much bothered about the success and failure of his movies and always tries to be positive and enjoy the present moment.
Kunchacko Boban is now doing two films. One is Rajamma@yahoo.com along with Asif Ali and another is Vetta directed by Rajesh Pillai after Mili. It has Manju Warrier and Indrajith as well along with Kunchacko Boban in lead roles. Hopefully he is getting it all right with his career.
