Prithviraj-Jayasurya-Indrajith team is rocking the box office of Mollywood with Amar Akbar Anthony directed by Nadirsha which is his maiden venture as well. The flick which released on December 16 had got great positive reports and now having a top class gross in Box office. As per the reports from the trade guides, the flick has been earned more than 7 crore rupees from Kerala alone and it was really awesome as well. As per reports, it is only the second best 5 day collection after Premam which is got around 8 crore rupees and because of continuous holidays in this week.

Prithviraj is the one who got more benefit with this thumping success of the film as his Ennu Ninte Moideen is already running with packed shows and it is already crossed 30 crore mark and becomes the fourth highest grosser in Mollywood after Drishyan, Premam and Bangalore Days. In Kerala gross alone it had become the third highest grosser after Drishyam and Premam as well. Prithviraj is on a dream run with two films starring him doing fantastically well in Kerala and his another Film Anarkkali is all set to release on this coming Month as well. He is looking forward to get a hat-trick of success this year as well.

Amar Akbar Anthony is attracting the masses as it is a fun filled entertainer which will make people laugh a lot and it does not discusses anything complex to make them confused. Nadirsha who knows the pulse of the people directed it with firm grip of his on the narration. The script writers Bibin and Vishnu also deserves great credit for this success as well. Vishnu is acted in some film as well earlier.

The whole cast and crew had made the film a treat for the audience and Amar Akbar Antony is the first choice of family audience this season and that is making sure that the film on the way to another blockbuster success in mollywood this year. Mohanlal starrer flick Kanal directed by M Padmakumar had released last Thursday and opened to positive reviews all around Kerala. The film is said to be a revenge thriller which offers a new experience to the viewers. Mohanlal’s performance in the lead role said to be one of his best performance in recent times and one of the best character played him as well recently. But another man is also getting great appreciation along with Mohanlal. Yes, it’s Anoop Menon who played an equally important character along with Mohanlal, his character name is Anantha Raman.

Usually when Mohanlal sizzles on the screen, the one acting along with him comes in the shadow of his performance. It can be related to a cricket match when Sachin sizzles on ground, the other batsman playing alongside him always comes under his shadow as people only focuse on Sachin. But at certain times, players like Virender Sehwag invites attention and appreciation equal to Sachin with their spontaneous performance even when Sachin is playing classically at the other end. Aashiq Abu’s directorial venture after Gangster named Rani Padmini which had Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal in the lead released yesterday and getting positive response from all over. It also evoked some negative response from a really unexpected corner as director Jude Antony Joseph had posted saying that he was really disappointed with the film.

Later he said sorry for posting his opinion on the very first day of that film without thinking that he is a director whose words can affect the film. But the flick has been getting great appreciation from different popular people as well. Actor Asif Ali said that he has been hearing positive reviews about the film from all over and he said congrats to Ashiq Abu who really gave him a break through his film Salt N Pepper. Another appreciation came from Prashant, the district collector of Kozhikkod who is popular in the Social media platform in the name of Collector Bro.

Prashant said that Rani Padmini is one of the best film he saw recently in Mollywood and it can be enjoyable to both class and mass film lovers if we go to it without preoccupied mindset. He said that this film offers the visual experience which proves that cinema is at the end an art of visual more than words or dialogues. He said that this was the best role Manju Warrier had got in her comeback trail and he also said that Manju had dubbed in this film superbly. Prashant also said that the film even though telling the story through a women perspective, it differs from many other female oriented movies which are very shallow in its content level. Prashant says that Rima Kallingal was better than Manju Warrier even though she is more of a supporting actress in this film. According to him the real hero of this success is none other than Ashiq Abu himself.

Yesterday’s big news from Malayalam cinema industry was the release of Aashiq Abu film Rani Padmini starring Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal and the positive vibe the film is getting from the audience. But later in the evening a shocking Facebook post appeared on the page of another Mollywood director named Jude Antony Joseph which said that Rani Padmini is quite a disappointing affair. It was invited protest from film lovers and many had criticized Jude Antony Joseph for his post and many people twisted the post in order to blame Jude saying that he had posted so as he had some personal problems with Manju Warrier.

But later Jude Antony himself posted again on his Facebook page that he was very sorry for posting such a status on his Facebook page on the very first day of the release of a film as it can badly affect a film. He said that he had high hopes on the film and he was disappointed after watching it. So he just expressed his opinion as an ordinary viewer through his Facebook page. He said that he just forgot that he is a popular director and still he is only in the stage of adapting to the fact that he is indeed film director than an ordinary film viewer.

But there is support for Jude Antony Joseph as well in this issue from people. Because years back Aashiq Abu posted on his Facebook timeline severely criticizing Kamal Haasan and his film Vishwaroopam. At that time, people had really went against Aashiq Abu for two reasons. One is that the flick Vishwaroopam was getting excellent reviews and another reason is that to criticize a legend in India cinema like Kamal Haasan one needs a certain eligibility and people said that Aashiq Abu did not have that eligibility to criticize Kamal Haasan.

So now some people ask that if Aashiq Abu can criticize Kamal Haasan then why Jude can’t criticize a film directed by Aashiq Abu in a common viewer’s viewpoint. Things going in a rather interesting manner now anyway.

Salim ahammad directorial flick Pathemari starred by Mammootty was a real comeback of the actor in Mammootty in all sense as he had given a fabulous performance as the male lead in the film. Pallickal Narayanan, the lead character in the film lived through Mammootty in the hearts of Malayalees and the film is getting great appreciation even now in its 15th day of release.

But when it comes to the theater collection it have to say that the great mouth publicity not really materialized into box office collections for the film. The film released around 70 screens in Kerala almost lost 20+ screens in two weeks and now around 50 screens as per reports. The trade guides reporting that the total gross of the film is around 5.50 crore and that too earned in 14 days.

As per reports the budget of the film is more than 8 crore rupees and it needs a heavy collection in the next two weeks to be called as a commercial success. From this 5.50 crore rupees collection, the share of the film is around 2.50 crore only and to overcome a high budget of 8+ crores it needs a better show than this. The arrival of new films like Amar Akbar Anthony which is a multi-starrer, Mohanlal starrer Kanal, Manjuwarrier-Rima Kallingal team’s Rani Padmini and also the tamil flick 10 Enradhukulla took away screens away from it and also in the remaining screens it not faring at this moment. That makes the chances quite dim about the financial success of the movie.

But still a good film is always a good film and Pathemari will remain as a classic in Mollywood for years. Financial success could have been made it sweeter, but that was a risk when a film releases without much commercial elements to entertain the audience who goes behind mass films like Amar Akbar Anthony. A flurry of releases coming as well in Mollywood which will really make Pathemari to strain at box office from now. Mammootty now needs a solid success at box office to stamp his authority in box office as a star.

The flick has been based on a journey undertook by two women for different reasons, their meeting in a bus and later they go together for the journey which later becomes a solution for both of their problems. The film follows a travel movie genre which offers you great visual, good songs and also something to think about women and their position in our society. Now Malayalam cinema is witnessing the rise of another Superstar here in its real sense. After Mohanlal and Mammootty there many actors come who to some period attained that title of a superstar such as Suresh Gopi. But he not maintained that status for long. Dileep later came and got great popularity but to call him a superstar is not right as he is more like Jayaram as they maintained a minimum guarantee level with his fun movies. Even though with some hits Nivin Pauly is hailed by some as the next superstar but many people thinks it is very immature to call him a superstar as he some box office hits does not make an actor a superstar.

Usually, the superstar title is given to a star when he makes a complete action film a blockbuster hit which purely rides on his back and his crowd pulling capacity. Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi had become Superstar thus, but only Mohanlal and Mammootty maintaining that power even after passing 30 years. But Now Prithviraj is coming close to that title.

His two films Ennu Ninte Moideen and Amar Akbar Antony going great in the box office at the same time. One is a pure class film which is making records in box office and within the gap of thirty days his mass film which is a multi-starrer though came to the screens which is also getting great reviews and super collection. Even though it is not an action film it is a kind of mass film which gives him a certain boost as a star. Now he had one test to pass to become a superstar and it was as we said, he have to make a blockbuster hit playing a complete action hero role. In this situation when whatever he touching turning to gold he can pull that off as well.

As per reports Sathyan Anthikkad now planning a film with actor Fahad Fazil which will start shooting in the December month if everything goes well. It will be his second association with Fahad Fazil after the first successful association named Oru Indian Pranaya Kadha. Sathyan Anthikkad’s previous film was with Mohanlal-Manju warrier team and it was a hit at box office. It was named as Ennum Eppozhum and released this year March financed by Ashirvad Cinemas owned by Mohanlal and Antony Perumbavor.

Rani Padmini Review

The much awaited Aashiq Abu directorial film Rani Padmini had released all over today. The film is much awaited mainly due to two factors. One is that it is a sort of comeback of Aashiq Abu after the disaster he faced through the film gangster last year starred by mega star Mammootty. The second factor is that it is the combination of Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal that is making the film attractive. Manju Warrier is one of the all-time best actress in Mollwood and Rima Kallingal is the best the new generation of actresses in Mollywood. When both are coming together for film that too a women-centric one, then it is quite interesting for the film lovers.

The film tells the story of two women named Rani and Padmini and a journey they undertook together. Rani’s character is played by Rima and Padmini’s character is played by Manju Warrier. They were strangers and meets during a journey and from there develops a bond between them and they influence each other as well. Padmini is married to a man named Giri, who is a Himalayan race driver. The film begins with the eloping of Padmini to meet her husband who went to Himachal Pradesh for the race. On the way, she meets Rani who is also eloping from her house due to the threat of a gangster to her life.

Aashiq Abu had made a good comeback through this film as the mark of talented director is evident in the making of a film. We have to appreciate his courage to make a film with two actresses in the lead in an industry where still the male lead stars rules the proceedings. The screenplay by Shyam Pushkaran and Ravi Shankar has depth and intensity to make us feel the emotional conflicts and struggles both Rani and Padmini goes through in different situations of their life. The screenwriters and director succeeded in telling the story in a realistic at the same time in a thrilling way as well. We can say it gives us a feel of one film directed by Sameer Thahir named Neelakasham Pacha Kadal Chuvanna Bhoomi in a sense of its pattern of narration and visuals.

Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal seems to be in a competition of performing great and both had done a stunning job as the lead characters of Rani and Padmini. Manju Warrier was at her natural best and Rima was bold and beautiful and proved that she is the best among new generation actresses. Other artists such as Jinu Joseph, Soubin Shaheer, Praveen Jain, Sreenath Bhasi, Sooraj Harris, Dileesh Pothen etc also performed with ease and looked very much convincing as well.

Biji Pal’s music and Madhu Neelakandan’s DOP had become the soul of the film and it both raised the standard and aesthetic experience the film gives to another level. Saiju Sreedharan’s Editing also went well which made the film to move in a smooth flow. The only negative we felt was that the characterization of Manju Warrier is following the same cliché which she is doing after her come back.

Rani Padmini is a beautiful film with its great visuals, narration and the freshness it brings to you after you watch the film. Even though may have difference of opinion regarding the policy of women liberation it put forward, but you can’t ignore the honesty with which it is presented and as a film it is enjoyable to the core.
