Saigal Padukayanu Review

Saigal Padukayanu is the latest Malayalam release of this week and the only one from Malayalam as the Puli fever has got many theaters which made other Malayalam films hold its release for another week. Saigal Padukayanu looks like a small film by its star cast which has Shine Tom Chacko and Ramya Nambeesan in lead roles. But when we look at behind the camera it can be called a big film. Because this family drama is directed by none other than master director Sibi Malayil and scripted by award winning prolific writer of Mollywood, Mr. T A Razaq. So there will be an expectation in the minds of people who wants to watch this flick.

The film which is touted as an emotional family entertainer tells the life story of Chandra Babu who is an auto driver cum singer. His father who is also a singer and he even names his son as Chandra Babu out of his admiration to great singers. His father’s name is Yusuf Saigal played by Madhupal. Chandra Babu grows up as a very good singer but he never reaches anywhere as a singer in his life. He becomes an auto driver and later had to marry a girl who has poor financial circumstances. The life situation and some bad friendship transforms him into an alcoholic. The film focuses on the plight of this talented singer, the struggles he had to endure in life while he keeps music close to his heart. There are many characters who comes to his life in many situations and the film tells us how that affects the course of his life.

The film which told in a very realistic way has not tried to give us anything unusual and follows the age old path of every family emotional drama. But the attempt of the director and scriptwriter is very much honest and that is visible in the film. M Jayachandran’s music really formed the soul of the film and Bijith Bala as editor did a nice job as well. In performance Shine Tom Chacko tried his best and succeeded as well. But sometimes that effort he took is very much visible in the portrayal of the character. Ramya Nambeesan got a matured character with some depth after a long time and she made it look convincing as usual. Notable performance also came from Sithara who played the mother character of Shine’s character Chandra Babu. Artists such as Madhupal, Hareesh Peradi, Rajesh Varma, Siddique have also done their job neatly in the film. Hareesh Peradi and Santhosh Keezhattoor just sizzled as the characters once again.

Sometimes the emotional flavor made it a lagging affair but it will never bore the viewer to death. And also when tried to become too much realistic cliché situations also came by here and there. But on the whole if we have to say Saigal Padukayanu is a honest attempt to tell an emotional family story and they did it with elan. It is a decent film which will remind you of the time when superb emotional family dramas ruled Malayalam cinema.

Director : Sibi Malayil

0

The popular actress Kaniha aka Divya Venkatasubramaniam recently in an exclusive interview with Manorama Online stated that by wearing modern dress, no one can be modern but it’s the attitude. Kaniha conveys in the interview that if she was wearing a saree in the movie How Old Are You she would have been that modern woman because her character demands it. She also added that she won’t be interested to take up roles which are modern only in its physical appearance. This strongly conveys that Kaniha is a person who truly has a say on what she needs and that is perfect for the roles she plays in her life as an actress, mother and a judge of reality show.

In the interview it was also revealed that as she is active in Facebook she gets connected with the public and their opinions. She also shared an experience where she had to react on a person’s comment where she was criticised for her dressing style. She conveys that she is aware of who she is and she knows what to wear based on the situation. When she was asked about whether the market of an artist gets lowered when they get married she replied that it’s true in Tamil industry but in Mollywood it’s different. Kaniha also says that there she was only approached for Mother roles and she added that as Tamil is her mother tongue she would love to work in Tamil. She also said that she got good roles in Mollywood after she got married.

Kaniha has acted alongside stars like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi and in the interview she said that she is more comfortable with Jayaram as he does not make her tensed when performing. She also said that among her films she has worked on she like Bhagyadevatha the most and her favourite director is Ranjith. When asked about her dream she said that she would love to work with the same directors she has already worked. She ended the interview by answering that her family and husband is very much supportive. Being a judge in the reality show, as a mother and actress she is trying to fulfill the responsibilities in a good manner.

She also said that women should be given a space to achieve their dreams and do support them that is what women empowerment is and she is happy that she is doing it in her own way. Kaniha started her career with the movie Ennittum in 2006 but got her remarkable recognition with the movie Bhagyadevatha in 2009. The same year she got the chance to be a part of the movie Pazhassiraja too.

Imitating Mohanlal – The trend continues in Mollywood

0

People now a days categorized the stars in mollywood like New generation stars or old generation star or something like that. But when it comes to Mohanlal they all are in one stand and for them he is the All generation Super star. There is a reason as well for calling him so or saying he is the one and only one who deserves that title.

For many years we have been seeing the trend of imitating Mohanlal, Mohanlal characters, or uttering the popular dialogues said by the characters played by him, inserting the visuals of popular Mohanlal movies or referring his movie names in the so called new generation films. And have to say that all those get thunderous applause as well as the name Mohanlal or something related to him is enough to get the viewers going and made them go wild in the theaters. That was his star power and reach among the spectators here.

The trend still continuous as strong as ever in Mollywood. Let’s check some recent examples. Last year Lal Jose made a film named Vikramadithyan with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. And in that film the scene which got maximum applause from the audience was when Dulquer said the popular Mohanlal dialogue from the film Irupatham Noottandu, “Narcotics is a dirty business”, and that too imitating the Mohanlal style. Then we saw Nivin Pauly imitating Mohanlal in two of his blockbuster films named Oru Vadakkan Selfi and Premam and that scenes also went great with the viewers.

Recently a film named Kohinoor released starring Asif Ali and in that film he imitating the Mohanlal style of the 1990’s from beginning to the end of the movie. Even the introduction of his character is made in the Mohanlal’s character Sagar Alias Jacky from Irupatham Noottand. And yesterday  the trailer of the film Amar Akbar Anthony had release and in that trailer Young star Prithviraj also seen in a shot imitating the style of Mohanlal. All these scenes went viral in social Media applications as well.

Thus Mohnalal had really become the best tool to connect directly with the audience for film makers here now. We have seen in many telugu and tamil movies also that when mentioning about Kerala the name Mohanlal pops out first. Mohanlal is always a trend and he is the one who was and who is the real brand ambassador of Malayalees in all sense.

Vani Viswanath getting ready to come back

0

The action queen of Mollywood is all set to make her second entry into the film industry. And this time it is reported to be in a Baburaj, her husband’s movie. After her marriage with Baburaj in 2002 and from then she was not a full time actress. It is now a happy news for Mollywood that this action queen is coming back to mark her strength in her Police roles. It is also heard that in this upcoming movie she will be doing a Police role.

Vani Vishwanath is very much famous with her Police roles that no one could ever match their performance with her. She had done more than 50 films in Mollywood and she has been an evergreen star in most of the languages she had worked in. She did movies in other languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi too. During her time, she was like that reigning queen of the industry and was very successful with her massive performances.

Vani Vishwanath started her career with the movie Mangalya Charthu alongside Dileep. From then on her career got raised to the Telugu film industry that she did many movies during 1989 to 1995 she was that shining popular star in the Telugu cinema world. In 1995 she came back to Mollywood by giving some extraordinary performance in her movies. There was also a trend in which the public expected Vani Vishwanath to be in police roles in the movies. She has done IPS roles in more than 3 movies which shows that her public appeal is tremendous. Still the Mollywood fans keep her as the Action Queen that none could take her place. The trend started with the movie Truth in which she played the role of an IPS officer, the welcome she got from the movie was such that it enabled her to be the perfect actress for cop roles.

As she is coming back in this upcoming flick where Baburaj is directing the movie and as per reports she will be in a Police role Mollywood expects something big as this project is marking Vani’s re-entry to the industry. Hope she gets her terrain like she did earlier. Let’s wait for an amazing performance of Vani Vishwanath in this upcoming flick, do hope for some action sequences too.

Will Amar Akbar Anthony’s arrival affect Ennu Ninte Moideen’s run?

0

Prithviraj is doing films in a fast pace and many of the films he had done had a delayed release due to various factors. But this results in the back to back release of his films as well. It really started with Double Barrel which got postponed many times and at last came during the Onam season. Within a month his another film Ennu Ninte Moideen also released on September 19th which had become the first ever solo blockbuster of his career as well.

Now another film of his is getting ready for release this month. It will be on October 16 th or October 24th as the date is not officially declared. But it is the film named Amar Akbar Antony directed by Nadirsha which is his debut directorial venture as well. The flick has a multi star cast including Indrajith and Jayasurya along with Prithviraj and the trio is joining after 9 years for a film. Last time we saw them together in Lal Jose directorial film named Classmates which was a blockbuster success of the year 2006. But the real concern now is that while the arrival of an entertainer like Amar Akbar Antony that too with a multi star cast, will it affect the golden run of Ennu Ninte Moideen at the screens here in Kerala.

The interesting thing is if that happens one Prithviraj starrer will be the cause of another Prithviraj starrer slowing down in the box office. Ennu ninte Moideen is getting great response at box office and trade pundits is of the opinion that if it goes like this way without much strong opposition, then it can emerge as one of the biggest grossers in Malayalam cinema history. Fans of Prithviraj is also in dilemma as two films of their star is all set to fight each other at box office and they don’t really know to which film they lend their support.

There is another chance also that in the wave created by Ennu Ninte Moideen, Amar Akbar Antony also may falter at box office. Some section of fans are demanding a postponement of the release of this flick as well. But Prithviraj starrer Anarkali and Pavada is also in its post production stage as well locking release dates in the coming months.

Kamal against Meera Jasmine’s bad behaviour

0

Director Kamal seems to be in a mood of criticism for last few months. Because he is making all kinds of criticisms on others about their behaviour, working pattern and film making style etc and he is also actively becoming a critic in public matters as well. When comes to cinema he started of with criticizing the film Premam first as he said that it will mislead youngsters and he criticized Alphonse Puthren and Anwar Rasheed for setting such a bad example before the youth.

Later after the failure of his recent film Uttopyayile Rajavu , he started criticizing Mammootty and Mohanlal on the matter of their pattern of choosing a character and he also criticized Suresh Gopi for his political stands. Now again Kamal comes out with a criticism and this time against actress Meera Jasmine for her bad behaviour. Kamal told in a recent interview that she even insulted legend like Mohanlal.

In a recent media interview Kamal said that even though Meera Jasmine is a very talented actress and she had acted in four of his films, her character in real life is not at all good and she does not know how to behave to others, also it is a kind of worse behavior he ever saw from an artist. He said that he will never make a film with her again. Kamal said that in the set of the film Gramaphone she even torn the dresses made by the costume designer openly and that hurt the National award winning costume designer S B Satheesh. It was for a silly reason that she didn’t like the design. Kamal said he warned her that time and also made her to apologies to the technicians of the set for her bad behavior. But she continued to do so.

Coming late to the sets was her hobby and even legends like Mohanlal had to wait hours in the Sathyan Anthikkad set only because she came very late. After coming late to the set she asked Mohanlal pointing towards the flower in his hands, which flower is this..? Mohanlal’s answer for that was epic as he told her that it is the flower of patience. Kamal said that she never learned from her mistakes and that is the one that doomed her career as well.

Pathemari is a commercial movie says Salim Ahamed

0

At last after many postponement of release dates, Mammootty starrer flick directed by Salim Ahamed titled Pathemari is reaching the theaters in Kerala on this Friday. Director Salim Ahamed has a few words to tell to the audience before the release of the film and the one thing he specifically said that Pathemari is not an offbeat film but a commercial film which will entertain you.

There has been a buzz that it will be a film like Salim Ahamed’s first two films named Adaminte Makan Abu and Kunjananthante Kada. Both those films were class films which gave more importance to the quality of storytelling than making the audience entertain throughout. Even though these films got many awards and critical recognition they did not do good at box office. So Salim Ahamed making it clear this time that Pathemari is an entertainer as well as a film which tells a great story which has depth and relevance.

Salim Ahamed said that the flick tells the story of the life of Gulf Malayalees through 4 different periods. It is almost 50 years now after the Gulf boom had started in Kerala. Many Malayalees went to gulf countries in 1960’s expecting a good life situation and also expecting an income which can provide good living conditions for their family back here in Kerala. Today we can reach there within hours and can return if we do not get what we want. But at that time it will take more than 40 hours journey to reach there and that too without any visa and passport. It was like an adventurous journey and no one is sure about whether they will reach their destiny or not.

Salim Ahamed says that this film is saying a story which has 100% true real story of the life of people who went to the gulf countries and their struggles there. He also said that Mammootty as Pallickal Narayanan in this film had given a great performance as well and his support was crucial for the completion of the film as well. He also appreciated Mammootty for the efforts he take to be the part of good films.

Mammootty, Mohanlal, Prithviraj & Nivin Pauly ruled the last 9 months

0

Malayalam cinema had entered the 10 month of this year and there are a lot of projects waiting for release in our industry in the remaining 90 days of this year. Lots of films had come this year till this September 30th and it is very sad to say that there is failures more in number than the successful ones for Mollywood. But when we consider the films that are made profits in box office, whether it is big or small, as usual the super stars are leading the pack with youngsters going great as well. It is Mega Star Mammootty and Universal Star Mohanlal leading the pack of most successful heroes this year with Prithvi Raj and Nivin Pauly who had done terrific jobs. All these four have 2 successes each this year and standing shoulder to shoulder in box office success.

Mega Star Mammootty began the year with a moderate success name Fireman directed by Deepu Karunakaran and financed by Milan Jaleel. But he followed it up with a blockbuster success of Bhaskar the rascal directed by Siddique. It was a sort of real comeback from Mammootty after some torrid times at box office. But he proved that he is still here with the mass power of a star.

When it comes to the Universal star Mohanlal, he once again proved that in box office power he is still the ruler here with two super hits named Ennum Eppozhum directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and Loham conceived by Renjith. Both these films were came out of his own production house Ashirvad Cinemas as well which is an icing on the cake for him. Both these films made great profit even after getting mixed word of mouth and that make it clear about his box office power.

Prithviraj just like Mammootty started his year with a moderate success named Picket 43 which is helmed by Major Ravi. But Last month he came back with the first ever solo blockbuster of his career named Ennu Ninte Moideen directed by RS Vimal which had become a classic now in Mollywood. But Nivin Pauly is unarguably the star of the year so far as he had given towo blockbusters back to back this year with Oru Vadakkan selfi by G Prajith and Premam by Alphons Puthran which also become the second highest grosser here right after Drishyam.
