Theaters or a place to get cheated ? An analysis about the theaters in Kerala

We are writing this in the light of some words spoken by popular cinematographer Jomon T John recently in a media interview. He said that he felt really hurt when he saw how bad his visuals were being turned into by the age old projection system of our theaters. In fact it has been said by Alphonse Puthren also when his film Premam had released as well. Rasool Pookutty said the same about the sound system in our theaters at the time of the release of Pazhassi Raja and he said how bad he felt when the refined sound design he made for the film got unnoticed due to the bad sound projection in the theaters. But there are many other things as well which makes our theaters really unbearable and now almost many of them has become a kind of place where we get cheated or robbed.

The minimum ticket rate in our theaters has become almost 80-100 rupees everywhere and they offer us good visual experience, sound experience, good seating with air conditioned atmosphere and hygienic toilets as well. But in most of the theaters these offers only remain as offers and people get cheated here. Most of our theaters do not even provide the basic facilities for the public. The toilets are terribly unclean and polluted that one feels to vomit once he enter into the toilets of a theater. The seats inside the theaters are almost torn to pieces and many of the carries insects which causes allergy to most of the audience. They offer air conditioned atmosphere. But that is only for the first 10 minutes. When the film starts they switch off the Air Condition system and then put the fan on instead of it. What an Idea Sirjee… !!

And then when it comes to the visual and audio system it becomes worse as well. The theaters offer technology such as Dolby Digital sound clarity and great high definition visuals. But what we get is the poorest version of all that. Nowadays people are moving more to multiplexes where they at least get hygienic atmosphere and also many multiplexes having great technical quality as well. If things go like this way our single screens have to be turned into marriage auditorium or something like that as people will desert it for sure.

Now they are making merry by cheating us and robbing us and it is sure that there will be an end to all merry making by cheating others and will be a day in which they lose everything they got by cheating. But on the way they are killing our films and the industry as well.

Mohanlal film Puli Murugan has Jagapathi Babu in key role ?

Mohanlal’s film Puli Murugan which is filming now is again in news and this time it is about the star cast of the film. There has been rumours doing its round in the Malayalam film industry and Telugu film industry that Jagapathi Babu who is one of the most sought after villain in South Indian film industry had joined the sets of Mohanlal’s Puli Murugan to play a key role. The news is still not confirmed officially but the news is spreading.

The news like this about its casting is spreading because the shooting of the film is going on in full secrecy at Pooyamkutty forest area and that too under the strict surveillance of Police as well as Forest guards. Media and fans has no permission to even come a kilometer near the shooting spot and not even a single picture from the shooting spot is not out yet. The secrecy is there about the star cast of the film as well, as there is only a few names out yet like Kishore, Bala, Vinu Mohan, Kamalini Mukharjee, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Nobi, Prabhu, Lakshmi Rai, Namitha etc. But these names too are not hundred percent confirmed. Only Kamalini Mukharjee, Namitha, Bala, Vinu Mohan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kishore are the confirmed ones as per reports.

Jagapathi Babu said to be playing a key role in the film and he has been roped in to the film as the legend Mohanlal wants him to play that character. We don’t even know much about its authenticity. And also not very sure about whether he is playing the villain role or not. Because another Telugu actor and popular villain Kishore plays the role of a forest officer in this film which has a negative touch. He is now doing hero roles in Telugu but came to this film as villain only because he want to fulfill the dream to act with Mohanlal.

Reports also says that Jagapathi Babu has been paid rupees 70 lakhs to act in this film and that is the highest remuneration ever paid to another language actor who acted in Mollywood. If this news is true then it will be Jagapathi Babu’s debut film in Mollywood. Anyway many Telugu media are also reporting the news saying that he already started shooting for Puli Murugan. We have to wait till the official confirmation to know whether it is right or wrong.

Dulquer going through the busiest schedules of his life

Young actor Dulquer Salmaan is going through the busiest schedules of his film career now a days and he is getting a lot of offers all over from South Indian film industry. A lot of projects are waiting for him and he is going from one to another without even taking the time to rest as he is having a jam packed schedule. The films which are awaiting for him are not small ones, all are big films and that really underlining the fact that he is indeed going big in South India.

Dulquer Salmaan had just completed the film Charlie which is directed by Martin Prakkat who gave him a super success named ABCD years back. In this film the new sensational actress Parvathy Menon playing his pair after the mega success of blockbuster in which they played the romantic pair of Arjun and Sara. Now Dulquer had joined the sets of Rajeev Ravi directorial untitled film and it is said to be some kind of a unique film, a genre which Dulquer had not done in his career so far. Reports suggesting that he is playing a complete action film with Rajeev Ravi in which he is playing a smuggler.

There is another project as well waiting for Dulquar salman in the wings which may be the much awaited one for his fans. That movie will be the film directed by Sameer Thahir after the success of Neelakasham Pacha Kadal chuvanna bhoomi. It is untitled as of now and a star hunt is going to complete the cast list.  Then comes the big film directed by Mani Ratnam after OK Kanmani and the film also has young Kollywood star Karthi also with Dulquer Salmaan. The shooting of the project is delayed due to the date problem of Dulquer Salmaan and Mani Ratnam reportedly told that he will wait for Dulquer to be free as he can’t replace him from the film. If that is true that is a great recognition for Dulquer Salmaan.

After the Mani Ratnam film another big Malayalam project awaiting him which will be directing by veteran actor/director Pratap Pothen and scripted by none other than Anjali Menon after her directorial venture Bangalore days which also has Dulquer along with Fahad and Nivin.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay starrer Puli came to the screens all over the 1st of October and this Chimbu Deven directorial is getting negative reviews all over as well. But the collection stats of the film is staggering compared to the negative reviews it had got from critics and audience. It is sure that tomorrow will be the judgement day for this film as the holidays ends today and working days starting tomorrow. A film with negative reviews cannot hold usually in the working days and Puli has to pass that test to remain in screens for some more weeks. But as per reports now it has to face another tough test as well. The pirated print of the film has already leaked into the websites.

The film had come on 5 different websites and the shocking thing is that it had come in the websites on the release day itself. As per reports the pirated prints has good quality as well and people wonder from where they got this kind of good quality prints in the very first day of its release. The print has been uploaded by a team named team rockers and if you remember they also uploaded many Malayalam films as well in different sites including the blockbuster film Premam. Premam piracy issue created much havoc here in the industry as it was the censor copy which was leaked through different sites in the internet.

Now Puli is facing some serious troubles as the pirated prints will go viral within hours as there are many people all around the world looking for these kind of prints and they will download it for a free watch of the film. The word of mouth is already negative and the collections are dropping in almost every screens. The negative word of mouth also alluring people to download the film from internet as they don’t have to go to theaters and waste their money on a film which had got negative reviews.

Let us see what the team behind Puli do to overcome this tough situation as the flick has been made out of a huge budget around 120 crore and they can’t afford if it becomes a disaster even if not a super hit.

The movie is the debut directorial venture popular actor/mimicry artist/singer/anchor Nadirsha and has a great multi star cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran and Jayasurya. Namitha Pramod is playing the female lead in this film as well. The trailer of the film is all set to launch today but now unfortunately the trailer of the film is leaked in online before the official release of it. The leaked version is going viral as well. Director Nadirsha told Onlookers Media that he will do what is necessary to remove that leaked trailer video from Youtube even though it is going viral.

This is not the first time it is happening that a much awaited film’s trailer or teaser is leaking like this. Some months before the same thing happened in kollywood as well when the teaser of the big budget Vijay film Puli is leaked out from the Four Frame studios of chennai. It has been later found out that it was leaked by a boy who came to the studio as a trainee and he did that only to become a hero in front of his friends. But this kind of incidents now becoming frequent now and when it happens it completely pulling down the marketing strategies planned by the team of the film.

This film’s main attraction is its star cast as we said above. Star brother Prithviraj and Indrajith again sharing screen space in this film along with Jayasurya and 3 of them shared screen together earlier for one of the biggest hits in Mollywood named Classmates which released in 2006. Actor Prithviraj who is on cloud nine after the mega success of his last release named Ennu Ninte Moideen is going on with lots of new interesting projects. Prithviraj is always known for his independent way of telling his opinion and his fearless nature to say what he really feels about a particular thing. That may be the reason why he had amassed the respect of a large number of young as well as old people. Prithviraj is usually not the one who go with the opinions of majority, if he feels that something is right then he stands for it. Recently in an interview with popular television channel Asianet, Prithviraj said that social media always support good films and they are backing it all the way they could through spreading good word of mouth for the film.

There has been great criticism against social media platforms sometimes that it is killing cinemas through fan fights and many master directors like Ranjith, Kamal, etc told this. There are many prominent figures who shared the same opinion that social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp just kills films according to their priority or for any kind of financial profits. There has been a deliberate kind of attack going on against many films and fan fights are the primary cause of it. People like Sathyan Anthikkad and Balachandra Menon said it recently as well.

But Prithviraj see the other side of it. He says that for example the films like Ennu Ninte Moideen, Premam etc has become great success because social media supported it and made a feel among the viewers that these films can’t be missed at any cost. Prithviraj also said that he is always looking forward to good screenplays that has good characters. That is why he had done Ennu Ninte Moideen and Celluloid, the story which had really happened in our society.

Also when it comes to the production side, it is the first ever production venture from the studio which had distributed here the films like Baahubali and I. Actor/director Pratap Pothen is all set to direct a film again and he had made that decision sometime back. He already told to the world that he is going to make a film very soon but never told us who will be hero of that movie. Only one indication was given at that time that it will be a youngster from our M-Town. But he already told us that he is making a dream team together to direct his film and it is really that is what he had put together for this upcoming film of his.

Popular writer and director Anjali Menon will write the screenplay for this Pratap Pothen film and famous cinematographer Rajeev Menon will crank the camera. And the hero will be none other than Dulquer Salmaan who is one of the most promising young actor in M-Town today. Pratap Pothen in his Facebook post revealing the hero and confirming the project said that he chose Dulquer Salmaan as the hero of the film not because he is the son of Megastar Mammootty with whom he wanted to direct a film years back. But seeing the talent shown by Dulquer Salmaan in films like Usthad Hotel and OK Kanmani, he selected Dulquer.

Pratap Pothen said that it is a dream for him to make films with Mammootty and Naseeruddin Shah. Because he had already made films with other great actors like Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Shivaji Ganesan etc. But his wish to direct a film with Mammootty as well as Naseeruddin Shah has not been fulfilled yet. So it will be great to direct his son on the comeback trail of him as a director this time. Pratap Pothen said that when he saw both Mohanlal and Mammootty from early years, he knew that both of them will become superstars as they got great talent in them. Just like that when he saw Dulquer Salmaan he felt the same that this actor will do great in future.

Pratap Pothen did not tell when the shoot will start but it may be Dulquer’s first project next year.

Vijay not made correct income tax returns for last 5 years ?

The big news came some days back was about the raid conducted by the income tax officials in the house of the cast and crew members of the film named Puli that released on October 1. Apart from that income tax officials raided the houses of actress Nayanthara and Samantha as well. At first the report came that the income tax officials conducted the raid because of a complaint that the team behind puli had used great amount of money for the production and that was too without any source.

That was said to be the reason behind the raid in Vijay and director Chimbu Devan’s house. The financer’s house also said to be raided by the income tax officials. But now some reports coming in that even if it they do not get the complaint about the source of money the film had used, they were all set to raid the house of Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay. Because reportedly Vijay has not paid the tax properly for the last five years or so.

Vijay is the highest paid actor in Kollywood only just behind Super star Rajni Kanth and he is also one of the most popular brand as well in the field of commercials. His money sources are to be verified by the incom tax officials and they are also checking about all his bank balance as well as about his properties at various places. There was also some unconfirmed reports says that he had almost illegally amassed rupees 25 crore rupees and that too got without paying anything as tax return to the government.

The income tax officials also reportedly said that they got 2 crore rupees cash and also 2 crore worth gold from the house of Vijay while raiding it. They also said that Vijay was returning his taxes properly before 5 years and in the last five years it was not like that and that made them to check his tax status and financial status.
