Pudhupettai 2 on cards, hints Selvaraghavan

The cult gangster film ‘Pudhupettai’ is celebrating its 15th anniversary today. On this occasion, the film’s director Selvaraghavan took to his Twitter handle to share a fan-made poster and captioned it as,

“And the journey shall continue”

This is not the first time the director has indicated that there will be a second part to ‘Pudhupettai’. Released in 2006, it is a North Madras based gangster film that chronicles the life of Kokki Kumar who starts off from a ordinary background, then becomes a powerful don and eventually a politician. The film is considered as a cult classic widely and is also one of Dhanush’s best works till date.

Meanwhile, Dhanush and Selvaraghavan are also teaming up for two other projects — ‘Naane Varuven’ and ‘Aayirathil Oruvan 2’. Initial works for ‘Naane Varuven’ have already begun. The film will have cinematography by Arvind Krishna and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations.

‘Aayirathil Oruvan 2’, on the other hand, is planned to be made on a massive scale. The pre-production works will go on for the entirety of 2022 and shoot will begin only an year after that.

Shah Rukh Khan to begin Atlee’s film by 2021-end

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been in talks with Tamil filmmaker Atlee for a very long time. It has been well over a couple of years since discussions began. Latest reports suggest that the film is most likely to go on floors by the end of this year. Shah Rukh Khan is currently working on ‘Pathan’, an action film directed by Siddharth Anand. He is expected to wrap it up before moving on to Atlee’s film.

There are already multiple speculations about the Atlee-SRK film. It is said to be a mass masala entertainer in which Shah Rukh plays a dual role. It is worth a mention that out of the four films helmed by Atlee so far, two of them, ‘Mersal’ and ‘Bigil’, had the lead actor Vijay in dual and triple roles. Even in ‘Theri’, Vijay played a character with two different shades.

Likewise, with his debut Hindi film, Atlee is keen on continuing with his habit of exploring multiple shades of the lead actor. If reports are to be believed, SRK will be seen essaying contrasting characters, both as the hero and as the villain. Rumours are rife that he is playing the part of an investigating officer and a most-wanted criminal.

Producer SR Prabhu confirms the second part of Kaithi

Karthi’s superhit film ‘Kaithi’ is set to have a second part. Its producer SR Prabhu confirmed the same last day during a Twitter Spaces interaction. He informed that they will begin works for the sequel once director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Karthi are free from their prior commitments.

‘Kaithi’ is an action-packed entertainer that was lapped up mainly by the youth audience. The film got released during the 2019 Diwali season. Despite releasing alongside Vijay’s ‘Bigil’, the film managed to have an excellent run at the box office. Unlike the usual mass films, ‘Kaithi’ was devoid of any unnecessary comedy, romance track or songs. The narrative had a lot of freshness and Lokesh was widely praised for successfully pulling off a quality mass masala entertainer.

After ‘Kaithi’ became a blockbuster, it was announced that the film will be remade in Hindi with superstar Ajay Devgn as the lead. More details regarding the Hindi version is still awaited.

Release of Adivi Sesh’s Major postponed

Telugu star Adivi Sesh is starring in a film inspired from the life of late National Security Guard (NSG) commando, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Titled ‘Major’, the film is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. It was scheduled to hit screens worldwide on July 2 but the makers have announced that the release has been postponed due to the pandemic. They have informed that the new release date will be announced once things are back to normal.

‘Major’ has its story and screenplay penned by lead actor Adivi Sesh himself. The makers did extensive research on Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s life and have also added cinematic elements to it. He was a valiant soldier who saved the lives of numerous hostages before being martyred by terrorists who wreaked havoc in the Taj Mahal Palace on the 26th of November, 2008. According to the makers, the film is more about the way he lived and not the way he lost his life.

‘Major’ stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Revathi, Murali Sharma and many others.

Prabhas to act with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 7?

There is a buzz going around that South Indian Prabhas is starring in Tom Cruise’s upcoming action flick ‘Mission Impossible 7’. A viral social media post claims that the actor has been roped in to play an important role in the film. As per the post, the film’s director Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that Prabhas is indeed a part of the cast. It is said that the director met Prabhas while he was shooting for ‘Radhe Shyam’ in Italy. The viral post also suggests that Prabhas had recently flown to Italy to complete his part of the shoot.

If the rumours turn out to be true, Prabhas will be joining the elite club of Indian actors making a mark in Hollywood. Currently, another South Indian actor, Dhanush is part of an upcoming biggie. The Netfix original titled ‘The Gray Man’ directed by ‘Avengers’ fame Russo Brothers has Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as the leads. Dhanush is essaying an important role and he had started shooting for his portions a couple of months back.

Meanwhile, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 27, 2022. The seventh installment of the ‘MI’ series also stars Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett and Frederick Schmidt. An official confirmation regarding Prabhash’ addition is still awaited.

Rajisha Vijayan set to make her Telugu debut opposite Ravi Teja

After making her Tamil debut with the blockbuster ‘Karnan’, Malayali actress has now bagged her maiden Telugu film. Ravi Teja plays the lead role in the film, which also stars Divyansha Kaushik as the second lead. Touted to be a thriller, the film is directed by debutant Sarath Mandava. It is learnt that Rajisha has given her nod after being been impressed the narration. She will be signing the dotted lines soon. The project was originally supposed to begin in May but got delayed due to the Covid second wave.

Rajisha also has a couple of projects in Tamil and one in Malayalam. After ‘Karnan’ release, the actress has been getting several offers from the Tamil industry. ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ director TJ Gnanavel is helming a new film in which Rajisha is plays the female lead. Suriya is also part of the film in an extended cameo role.

Rajisha has also been signed as one of the heroines in Karthi’s upcoming film ‘Sardar’, directed by PS Mithran. Raashi Khanna is the other female lead. In Malayalam, Rajisha has ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ with Asif Ali coming up.

Chathur Mukham gears up for television premiere

‘Chathur Mukham’ starring Manju Warrier and Sunny Wayne as the leads is set to have its television premiere soon. Zee Keralam has bagged the satellite rights while their own OTT platform Zee 5 hold the satellite rights.

Directed by Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V, ‘Chathur Mukham’ is a techno-horror thriller, the first of its kind in Malayalam. Upon its theatrical release on April 8, the film opened to largely positive response. Later on, Vishu day (April 14), it got released in UAE region as well. Despite the good run, the makers were forced to withdraw the film from theatres due to the second wave of pandemic.

‘Chathur Mukham’ is a horror thriller with a lot of freshness in it. Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar have jointly penned the script. The film tries to achieve the concept of solving something that’s beyond science using science. Technically also, the film is of superior quality with Abinandan Ramanujam as the cinematographer and Dawn Vincent handling the music department as well as sound design.

Dulquer Salmaan had earlier confirmed about teaming up with Bollywood filmmaker R Balki. Veteran cinematographer PC Sreeram, who has cranked the camera for all of Balki’s films, is part of this one as well. In a recent tweet, the ace DOP confirmed that their upcoming film is a psychological thriller.

R Balki is well-known for helming feel-good and inspiring films like ‘Cheeni Kum’, ‘Paa’ and ‘Padman’. It is the first time he is helming a thriller and that makes it a project to look forward to. Details regarding the other cast and crew members are awaited.

Dulquer, meanwhile, was last seen shooting for a period love story directed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi of ‘Padi Padi Leche Manasu’ fame. The film has the star playing an army officer named Lieutenant Ram. Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur is paired with him.

In Malayalam, Dulquer has ‘Salute’, a cop film directed by Rosshan Andrrews in the post-production phase. His much anticipated ‘Kurup’ is also awaiting release.

‘Aarkkariyam’ starring Biju Menon, Parvathy and Sharafudheen as the leads is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Though the film had its theatrical release in April, it didn’t have a successful run mainly due to the worsening pandemic situation. After its OTT release, the film seems to have found its right audience. Many in social medias are praising the film, which includes celebs as well. Filmmakers Sathyan Anthikad and Alphonse Puthren had written highly about the film.

More recently, actor Siju Wilson has also shared a note heaping praise on the film and the lead actors. He has written,

‘Aarkkariyam’ marks the directorial debut of Sanu John Varghese, a popular cinematographer who has worked in multiple languages. The film is centred around a 70-something old man, his daughter and son-in-law. Biju Menon plays the old man’s role while Parvathy essays the part of his daughter, Sherly. Sharafudheen plays the role of the son-in-law, Roy.

The makers of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ have wrapped up all the post-production works. Though the makers had announced July 16 as the release date, it seems highly unlikely due to the pandemic situation in the country. Trade analyst Kaushik has tweeted regarding the release plans. He has written,

Yash’s #KGF2 #KGFChapter2 entire post-production is almost done. The team will finalize the release date based on theaters reopening across the country, after this lockdown. Since it’s gonna be a huge pan-Indian release, the situation has to be conducive all over India. (1/2)

July 16 date had already been announced by the team. But with this Covid wave going on nonstop, we have to see if all Indian theaters will reopen and 100% occupancy levels will be allowed, by then. Else, the release date would be pushed further, naturally! #KGFChapter2 #KGF2 (2/2)

‘KGF: Chapter 2’ is eagerly awaited by cinephiles across the country. Thanks to the massive success of the first part, expectations are multifold this time. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film has Yash reprising the lead role of dreaded gangster Rocky. Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt will be seen as the antagonist, Adheera. Ranveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Anant Nag, Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N Simha and Malavika Avinash are also part of the film’s supporting cast.
