Aarkkariyam is a new style of thriller with stunning perfomance by Sharafudheen: Alphonse Puthren

‘Aarkkariyam’ starring Biju Menon, Parvathy and Sharafudheen as the leads recently started streaming on Amazon Prime. Though the film released in theatres in April, it didn’t have a successful run mainly due to the pandemic. Deservingly, the film has found its right audience now after the OTT release. People seem to be liking the film for its minimal yet effective storytelling and impressive performances.

After watching the film recently, director Alphonse Puthren took to his social media handle to share his thoughts. He found it to be a new style of thriller and was also stunned by Sharafudheen’s performance. It is worth a mention here that it was Puthren who first introduced Sharaf with ‘Neram’. Later, it was his ‘Premam that gave the actor a big break.

Earlier, ace filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad had also written highly about ‘Aarkkariyam’. The film marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Sanu John Varghese. Set in the post-pandemic world, the film is centred around a 70-something old man, his daughter and son-in-law. Biju Menon plays the old man’s role while Parvathy essays the part of his daughter. Sharafudheen plays the son-in-law, Roy.

Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor thanks Tovino Thomas

Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor’s new film ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’ is currently streaming in Amazon Prime. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, it is a black comedy about an urban woman and a suspended cop on a run. Though the film had its theatrical release in March, it failed to have a good run majorly due to the pandemic situation. However, after the OTT release, the film seems to have found its audience. It is getting good response from many with particular praise for Arjun and Parineeti Chopra’s performances.

Recently, Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas got to the watch and he was impressed by it. He took to his Instagram handle to write,

Thoroughly enjoyed Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. Phenomenal perfomance by both Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra.

Arjun Kapoor shared Tovino’s post and thanked him for his kind words. He that he’s glad that Tovino liked the film.

It is quite heartwarming to see actors from various different industries sharing such good camaraderie.

Soubin Shahir and Asha Sharath join the cast of CBI 5

We had recently reported about the fifth part of the popular CBI franchise getting ready to go on floors. The trio of Mammootty, script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu are reuniting and Swargachitra Appachan is producing the film. The makers are planning to launch ‘CBI 5’ in August, on the auspicious day of Chingam 1.

Casting and other pre-production works are currently getting finalized. While Mammootty will be making a comeback as the iconic Sethurama Iyer, he will be joined by Mukesh and Sai Kumar, who both have previously been part of the CBI films. Asha Sarath and Soubin Shahir are the latest additions to the cast. They both are expected to be seen in prominent roles. Details regarding their characters are not yet known.

The makers are planning to shoot the film in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Hyderabad and New Delhi. Shoot will be wrapped up in a single schedule. On the technical front, Jakes Bejoy is likely to handle the music department.

Telugu actor Jr NTR has tested negative for coronavirus. The star himself informed the same through his Twitter handle. He thanked the doctors of KIMS Hospitals and Tenet Diagnostics for taking good care. He also urged everyone to stay positive and not to panic.

Jr NTR’s tweet reads,

Happy to state that I’ve tested negative for Covid 19. Thank you everyone for all the wishes ??

Criticisms over the Lakshadweep administrator Praful Patel’s alleged undemocratic policies are getting severe. Social media campaigns with the hashtag #SaveLakshwadeep have already begun in full swing. Actor Prithviraj was the first from Malayalam industry to tweet in support of the people of Lakshwadeep. Actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohnadas and Sunny Wayne have also come out endorsing the #SaveLakshwadeep campagin. Interestingly, both of them have a Lakshwadeep connection. Geetu’s last film ‘Moothon’ was shot extensively in the island and Sunny Wayne had played the role of a Lakshwadeep native in ‘Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal’.

Geetu Mohandas has written,

I shot Moothon in Lakshadweep. One of the most magical places with the most beautiful people I have ever met in my life . My heart goes out to each and everyone who reached out to me. Their cries were desperate , real . There is not much we can do apart from voicing our opinion collectively . Please do not disturb their peace , disrupt their ecosystem, their innocence . Similarly, Prithviraj had also shot for his film ‘Anarkali’ in Lakshwadeep. Ever since then, he has been sharing a very close bond with the people there. In a detailed Facebook note, the actor urged the authorities to listen to the voice of the people of Lakshadweep. He also added that any law, reform or amendment should never be enforced for the land, but for the people of the land.

Praful Khoda Patel, a BJP leader and former Gujarat Minister, was appointed as the island administrator last December and ever since then, many existing laws have been amended unilaterally and new legislations were being drafted without consultation with the people or their elected representatives.

According to the people of the island, the unplanned and unscientific altering of SOP has led to the current surge in Covid cases in Lakshwadeep, where not even a single case was reported in the year 2020. As of now, Lakshadweep has reported around 5000 cases and 14 deaths.

Apart from this, there are also severe allegations about the BJP leadership trying to enforce their communal agenda in the island, which has a 99% Muslim population. Hundreds of casual and contractual staff have reportedly been terminated from services from different government offices on a daily basis. The administration has also proposed to introduce a new law that calls for a complete beef ban.

Shoot for the Mammootty-Amal Neerad film ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ was progressing at a brisk pace when some of the crew members turned Covid positive. Soon after that, the second wave of pandemic worsened and shoot had to be put on hold due to the lockdown. Lena, who is playing an important role in the film, took to her social media handle to share a selfie from the sets and wrote about how she missed being on location. Shine Tom Chacko, Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Farhaan Faasil and ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’ fame Veena Nandakumar are also there in the selfie.

‘Bheeshma Parvam’ has massive hype as it marks Mammootty’s reunion with Amal Neerad 14 long years after ‘Big B’. Newcomer Devadath Shaji has scripted the film along with Amal Neerad. It is said to be a gangster drama in which Mammootty plays a larger-than-life character. The cast also includes Nadiya Moidu, ‘Rangasthalam’ fame Anasuya and Maala Parvathy.

Anend C Chandran of ‘Neram’ and ‘Premam’ fame is the cinematographer and music is by Sushin Shyam. Amal Neerad is also producing the film under his banner, Amal Neerad Productions. It is learnt that Mammootty still has around 10 days of shoot left to be completed.

Apart from this, there are also severe allegations about the BJP leadership trying to enforce their communal agenda in the island, which has a 99% Muslim population. Hundreds of casual and contractual staff have reportedly been terminated from services from different government offices on a daily basis. The administration has also proposed to introduce a new law that calls for a complete ban on slaughter of cow, calf, bull and bullock, in addition to prohibition of sale, storage and transportation of beef or beef products in any form.

Malayali actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has now come out supporting the people of Lakshadweep. The star shares a very close bond with the people there after working in ‘Anarkali’, which was shot in the island. In a detailed Facebook post, he has urged the authorities to listen to the voice of the people of Lakshadweep. He also added that any law, reform or amendment should never be enforced for the land, but for the people of the land.

My first memories of this gorgeous little group of islands are from a school excursion when I was in my 6th grade. I remember being in awe of the turquoise waters and the crystal clear lagoons. Years later, I was part of the crew that brought film making back to the islands with Sachy’s ANARKALI. I spent a good 2 months in Kavarati and made memories and friends for a lifetime. Two years back I went back again to film what was probably the most challenging sequence of my directorial debut LUCIFER. None of these would have been possible if not for the wonderful, warm hearted people of Lakhsadweep.
For the last few days, I’ve been getting desperate messages from people I know and do not know from these islands, requesting and sometimes even pleading for me to do what I can to bring public attention to what is going on there. I’m not going to go on and write an essay about the islands and why the new administrator’s “reforms” seem completely bizarre. All such material should by now be easily available online for those of you interested in reading about it.
What I do know for sure though, is that none of the islanders I know, or none of those who’ve spoken to me are happy with what’s happening. I strongly believe that any law, reform or amendment should never be for the land, but for the people of the land. It’s never the geographical or political boundary that makes a country, state or a union territory but the people who live there. How does disrupting the way of life of a centuries old peaceful settlement become an acceptable means of progress? How will threatening the balance of a very delicate island ecosystem with no regard for the potential consequences pave the way for sustainable development?
I have faith in our system, and even more faith in our people. When an entire community is unhappy with decisions taken by a nominated authority, upon whose posting the people there had no say, and they vociferously bring it to the attention of the world and their government, I would like to think there is no way other than act on it.
So please, to whomsoever it may concern, do listen to the voice of the people of Lakshadweep, trust them to know what is better for their land. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth, with even more beautiful people living there. ?

‘Kudukku 2025’ is an upcoming Malayalam film starring ‘Premam’ fame Krishna Sankar in the lead role. Bilahari K Raj, who had debuted with ‘Allu Ramendran’, is helming this film. First single from the film got released online last day. Titled as ‘Aarante Kandathil’, the song is sung, composed and programmed by Manikandan Ayyappa. Lyrics is penned by Nandhakumar Kazhimbram.

‘Kudukku 2025’ stars Krishna Sankar, Durga Krishna, Swasika, Shine Tom Chacko and Aju Varghese in major roles. The film is a futuristic thriller, that is set in a post-pandemic world. According to director Bilahari, the film starts off as a regular entertainer and develops into a mystery, action-thriller. He has also produced the film along with lead actor Krisha Sankar and Deepthi Ram.

Debuatnt Abhimanue Viswanath is the DOP and Kiran Das is editing the film. Songs are composed by Bhoomee and Manikandan Ayappa while Mujeeb Majeed handles the background score.

Director Vinayan is currently working on ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’, an epic-period film set in the 19th century. Siju Wilson plays the lead role in the film. Vinayan, who has launched several actors in the past, firmly believes that ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ will be a career-changing film for Siju. According to him, Prabhas became a superstar after Baahubali. Likewise, this film will offer a big break for Siju.

‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ has Siju playing a character named Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a brave Ezhava chieftain who lived in the 19th century. The film tells the untold story of Panicker, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement. Siju worked hard for over 6-7 moths to undergone a major makeover. He built a bulky, warrior-like physique besides training in horse riding and Kalaripayattu.

Along with him, the film has a huge ensemble of actors. Chemban Vinod Jose will be seen playing the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Anoop Menon, Deepti Sati, Kayadu Lohar, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Sreejith Ravi, Jaffer Idukki, Senthil Krishna, Bibin George, Indrans, Poonam Bajwa, Madhuri Braganza and many others are part of the supporting cast.
