Confirmed: Operation Java set to be remade in Hindi

After its successful run in theatres for around 75 days, ‘Operation Java’ is now gearing up for OTT release. Zee Kerala had bagged its satellite rights and their own digital platform Zee5 bagged the streaming rights. Meanwhile, the makers have announced that the film is getting remade in Hindi. Raj Zacharias of Celebs and Red Carpet has bagged the remake rights. They are expected to announce more details regarding the remake version in the coming days.

Earlier in an interview, director Tharun Moorthy had revealed that they have been receiving remake offers from various languages. Since the film is basically about the world of cyber crimes, it should appeal to other language audience as well.

Despite the presence of no big star and the audience restriction in theatres enforced due to the pandemic, ‘Operation Java’ managed to emerge as a box office hit. Balu Varghese, Lukman, Vinayakan, Irshad, Shine Tom Chacko, Binu Pappu, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju, Vineetha Koshy and Prashanth Alexander played the main roles in it.

Kalyani Priyadarshan heaps praise on Simbu and team Maanaadu

Simbu starrer ‘Maanaadu’ is a highly anticipated film that is nearing its final stages of shoot. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, it is planned as a pan-Indian film with release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Though the film was initially thought to be a regular political thriller, the teaser revealed that it has an intriguing time-travel concept in it.

Kalyani Priyadrashan, who plays the female lead in the film, recently heaped praise on the team after wrapping up shooting for a particular sequence. She called it her most favorite scene in the film. It is learnt that the actress has performed some stunts in the scene. Apparently, Kalyani was mind-blown after Simbu nailed the whole scene in a single shot. She has tweeted,

‘Maanaadu’ also stars SJ Suryah, Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar, Bharathiraja, his son Manoj Bharathi, Karunakaran and Premji Amaren in important roles. Richard M Nathan is the cinematographer and Praveen KL handles the edits. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for the film. It is being produced by Suresh Kamatchi under the banner of V House Productions.

Rajisha Vijayan bags her next in Tamil with Karthi

Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan made an impressive debut in Tamil with ‘Karnan’. The film directed by Mari Selvaraj had Rajisha paired with Dhanush. Her performance got praises by many and offers have already started flooding in for the actress. She has been roped in to play one of the female leads in Karthi’s new film ‘Sardar’, directed by PS Mithran. Raashi Khanna is the other female lead.

‘Sardar’ is actually Rajisha’s third film in Tamil. Her second film is being directed by TJ Gnanavel of ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ fame. It is a social drama in which Suriya will be seen in an extended cameo role. He plays as an advocate in the film, which is said to be based on a tribal community. His character will be battling for some valid reason for the welfare of the tribals. Details regarding Rajisha’s character are not yet known.

It is indeed great to see a Malayali actress bagging back to back projects that too alongside big stars in Tamil. Rajisha also a couple of Malayalam films coming up. She will be seen playing one of the leads alongside Asif Ali in Jibu Jacob’s ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’. She is also said to be playing a prominent role in Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming movie ‘Malayankunju’.

Oscars 2021: Here’s the full list of winners

The 93rd Academy Awards events was held in a strange fashion this year due to pandemic. The attendees had to observe social distancing but most of them chose to go maskless in this low-key event. Irrfan Khan, Chadwick Boseman, Bhanu Athaiya and others were honoured in the memorium segment.

The American drama ‘Nomadland’ won big this year. The film won the award for Best Picture, Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Director for Chloé Zhao.

Chloé Zhao made history as the first woman of colour to win the Best Director award. She is also the second woman ever to bag the prestigious award. Legendary actor Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for his performance in ‘The Father’ over the late Chadwick Boseman. At the age of 83, Hopkins became the oldest-ever acting Oscar winner.
The Denmark film ‘Another Round’ was honoured with the award for Best International Feature.

M Padmakumar’s next starring Indrajith and Suraj Venjaramoodu titled as Patham Valav

We had recently reported about Indrajith Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu teaming up for a new film. M Padmakumar is directing the film, which had gone on floors earlier this week in Thodupuzha. It is learnt that the film has been titled as ‘Patham Valav’. Dr Zachariah Thomas, Gijo Kavanal, Sreejith Ramachandran and Prince Paul are jointly producing it under the banner of United Global Media (UGM).

Abhilash Pillai is scripting the film, which is said to be a family-based emotional thriller. According to the script writer, it is a thriller inspired from an incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. Aditi Ravi and Swasika Vijay will be seen as the female leads.

On the technical front, Ranjin Raj, who was launched by director M Padmakumar through his ‘Joseph’, has been retained as the music director. Ratheesh Ram is cranking the camera and edits will be handled by Shameer Muhammed.

Appani Sarath to play the villain in Sasikumar’s next

Malayalam actor Appani Sarath, who shot to fame with ‘Angamaly Diaries’, has been part of a couple of Tamil films. He made brief appearances in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ and ‘Sandakozhi 2’. He also starred in the Zee5 Original web series ‘Auto Shankar’.

Appani Sarath has now bagged a new project in Tamil opposite Sasikumar. The film is directed by Sathyasiva, who has also made films like ‘Kazhugu’, ‘Savaale Samaali’ and ‘Sivappu’.

Appani Sarath will be seen in a negative role in this new film that has Sasikumar as the lead. It is said to be a suspense thriller. Chendur Films International is producing the film, which is yet to be titled. Shoot is currently progressing in Chennai.

Sarath is also turning a scriptwriter with a new Malayalam film titled ‘Charam’. Debutant Jomy Joseph is directing the film. Besides penning the story and screenplay, Sarath will also be seen playing the lead role in it. Sinoj Varghese, Selva Pandian and Rajesh Sharma will be essaying the other major roles.

Karthi’s next titled Sardar; Here’s the motion poster

Karthi’s new film with director PS Mithran has just been announced. It has been titled as ‘Sardar’ and an intriguing motion poster has also been released online. Karthi sports a salt and pepper look in it. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the actor is playing a dual role in the film and the salt and pepper get-up is for one of his characters in it.

PS Mithran has previously made the Vishal-Arjun starrer ‘Irumbuthirai’ and ‘Hero’ with Sivakarthikeyan. Both the films were commercial entertainers that discussed some some relevant social issues. ‘Sardar’ Karthi is also expected to be on similar lines.

Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan, who recently made her Tamil debut with ‘Karnan’, has been signed as one of the female leads. Raashi Khanna is the other lead. GV Prakash is the music director and cinematography is by George C Williams. Editor Ruben, stunt choreographer Dilip Subbarayan and art director Kadhir are also part of the team.

‘Sardar’ is produced by Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures.

Gautham Menon also part of Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai

Director Vetrimaaran had recently unveiled the title and first look of his next film. Titled as ‘Viduthalai’, it has Soori and Vijay Sethupathi as the leads. The first look poster features Soori as a police constable and Vijay Sethupathi as an accused wearing a handcuff. Bhavani Sre, who made an impressive debut with ‘Thangam’ from ‘Paava Kadhaigal’, is also part of the film.

Latest addition to the cast is Gautham Menon. He will be seen playing the role of a high-ranking officer in the film. Of late, Menon has been acting in a lot of films and has also delivered some impressive performances. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to Vetrimaaran’s style of making. In ‘Viduthalai’, he is playing a full length character with combination scenes with both the actors. It is learnt that he has already shot for about 10 days.

‘Viduthalai’ is said to be based on the short story ‘Thunaivan’ written by Jeyamohan. Ilaiyaraja is composing music for the film and cinematography is by R Velraj. Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment is producing the film, shoot for which is nearing completion.

Tovino Thomas hints that Minnal Murali will have a second part

Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Minnal Murali’ is one of the most awaited Malayalam films of the year. Directed by Basil Joseph, it is a superhero flick made on a big canvas. It is planned as a pan-Indian film that will be released in 5 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

‘Minnal Murali’ is a period film set in the 90s. Tovino Thomas plays a local superhero in the film. It is the first such attempt in Malayalam and the makers have pinned high hopes on it. They are planning it as a franchise model similar to the superhero cinematic universe made popular by DC and Marvel.

In a recent interview to The Cue, Tovino revealed that a second part is definitely on the cards. Since they’re confident that the film will work among the masses, works for the second part has already begun. Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew are scripting the film.

Along with Tovino, ‘Minnal Murali’ also has Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram in a major role. Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Harisree Ashokan, Mammukoya, debutante Femina George and many others are part of the cast. Cinematographer Sameer Thahir, music director Shaan Rahman and Hollywood-based action choreographer Vlad Rimburg form the core technical team.

Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release during the Onam season in October.

Superstar Mohanlal unveiled the first look poster of Tovino’s new film ‘Varavu’ through his social media handle last day. The film marks the directorial debut of Rakesh Mantodi, who has scripted films like ‘Thira’ and ‘Godha’. Pradeep Kumar Pathiyara is producing ‘Varavu’ under the banner of Pathiyara Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The production house last backed the superhit film ‘Aravindante Athidhikal’.

Tovino Thomas meanwhile has a slew of other projects lined up. He has already finished shooting for Manu Ashokan’s ‘Kaanekaane’, ‘Naradhan’ directed by Aashiq Abu and Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Vazhakku’. ‘Vaashi’, ‘Anveshippin Kandethum’ and ‘Thallumala’ are some of his other upcoming projects.
