Dhanush-Karthik Subbaraj film Jagame Thandhiram release date announced

Dhanush’s much hyped film ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ is finally set for release. As announced earlier, the film is coming out directly on Netflix. The makers have informed that it start streaming on June 18.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ is an action-packed gangster flick. Dhanush plays Suruli, a thug based in Madurai who later becomes a gangster in London. Aishwarya Lekshmi and ‘Game Over’ fame Sanchana Natarajan will be seen as the two female leads.

Hollywood actor James Cosmo, who has starred in films like ‘Braveheart’, ‘Troy’ and the popular TV series ‘Game of Thrones’, is also essaying a crucial role in the film. Malayali actor Joju George and ‘Madras’ fame Kalaiyarasan are also part of the supporting cast.

The decision to release ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ had caused huge disappointment among fans and cinephiles. Dhanush himself was unhappy with the film getting a direct OTT release. So far, he has stayed away from all the promotional activities related to the film.

Dulquer Salmaan confirms starring in Soubin Shahir’s next directorial

Recently, there were rumours about Dulquer Salmaan teaming up with Soubin Shahir for a new film. The actor has confirmed the same in an interview. He however refused to divulge further regarding the project. It must be noted that Dulquer was also part of Soubin’s directorial debut ‘Parava’. He played an extended cameo role in it.

Dulquer is currently in Kashmir shooting for a romantic period drama directed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi. This yet-to-be titled film has the actor playing an army officer named Lieutenant Ram. Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur is paired with him.

In Malayalam, Dulquer had recently finished shooting for ‘Salute’, a cop film directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Apart from the Soubin project, he has also committed for a film with director Joshiy’s son Abhilash. The much-anticipated ‘Kurup’ will be his next release.

Dulquer also has a film each in Hindi and Tamil coming up. Balki of ‘Padman’ fame will be directing the Hindi film while the Tamil film titled ‘Hey Sinamika’ is helmed by popular dance choreographer Brinda. Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal also star in it.

Actor Vijay was in Georgia shooting for his new film when his colleague Vivek passed away suddenly. Last day, as Vijay returned back to Chennai he straight went to Vivek’s home to offer condolences to his family. Vijay’s PRO Riaz K Ahmed confirmed the news by sharing it with his followers on social media. He tweeted,

Thalapathy Vijay paid a visit to late Actor Vivek sir’s house to convey his heartfelt condolences to the family earlier this morning.

Vijay and Vivek have been very good friends for long. They have acted together in 13 films. ‘Kushi’, ‘Badri’, ‘Thirumalai’, ‘Priyamanavale’, ‘Thamizhan and ‘Youth’ are some of their most memorable films together. They last worked together in the Atlee directorial ‘Bigil’.

The 59-year-old Vivek suffered a heart attack on April 16 and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. After being treated intensively, he breathed his last the next day. Condolences poured in for the actor, who has done more than 220 films. He is a recipient of three Filmfare Awards South and 5 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan has had a great start to her career in Tamil cinema with ‘Karnan’. The film had her paired with Dhanush and her performance in it was noteworthy. Post ‘Karnan’, Rajisha has been getting several offers from the Tamil industry and it is learnt that she has signed a couple of them.

‘Kootathil Oruthan’ director TJ Gnanavel is helming a new film in which Rajisha is said to be playing the female lead. Interestingly, Suriya is also part of the film. He will be seen in an extended cameo role as an advocate. The film is a social drama which revolves around a particular tribal community. Details regarding Rajisha’s character are not yet known.

Rajisha has also been signed as one of the female leads in Karthi’s new film ‘Sardar’, directed by PS Mithran. Raashi Khanna is the other female lead. In Malayalam, Rajisha has ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ with Asif Ali coming up.

Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham postponed yet again; New release date announced

In what comes as a huge disappointment for Malayali cinephiles, it has been announced that the release of ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ has been pushed further. While it was scheduled to hit screens on May 13, the makers have decided to postpone it to August 12. The second wave of pandemic which is wreaking havoc in the county has forced the change in plans.

‘Marakkar’ was originally planned as a March 2020 release. However, days before its release, the pandemic situation worsened and release got cancelled. The makers will be hoping that things get better by August so that they won’t have to postpone the release any further.

Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Marakkar’ is an action-epic made on a massive scale. Superstar Mohanlal plays the titular role of role of Kunjali Marakkar IV, who is regarded as India’s first naval chieftain. Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Priyadarshan, Pranav Mohanlal, Ashok Selvan, Prabhu and many others are part of the star-studded cast.

After its theatrical run, Mammootty’s political drama ‘One’ is now out on streaming platform Netflix. The film is directed by Santhosh Viswanath and scripted by Bobby-Sanjay duo. Mammootty plays the lead role of Kerala Chief Minister Kadakkal Chandran in it. Upon its theatrical release on March 16, it was Mammootty’s performance as the righteous political leader that won all the praise.

‘One’ has an elaborate supporting cast. Murali Gopy and Joju George essay prominent roles in the films as the opposition leader and party secretary, respectively. Nimisha Sajayan, Binu Pappu, Ranjith, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shanker Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mamukoya, Gayathri Arun, P Balachandran, Mathew Thomas, Prem Kumar, Krishna Kumar and Ishaani Krishna are also part of the film.

On the technical front, Vaidy Somasundaram has cranked the camera and music department is handled by Gopi Sunder. Sreelakshmi R has produced the film under the banner of Ichais Productions.

Shoot for Vinayan’s big-budget period film ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ is currently progressing. Siju Wilson plays the lead role of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a brave Ezhava chieftain who lived in the 19th century. The film has a huge star cast comprising of several known actors. Latest to join the team is Chemban Vinod Jose. He will be seen playing Kayamkulam Kochunni’s role in the film.

Kayamkulam Kochunni was a heroic outlaw from Kayamkulam, who lived during the early 19th century. Legends on his life are part of the folklore of Kerala. It is worth a mention that actors like Sathyan and Nivin Pauly had previously played Kochunni’s role in various films.

‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ tells the untold story of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement. The leader stood for the marginalized community and fought against the evils of caste system. He lead several struggles for women including the ‘Mookuthi Samaram’ – a protest led for the Ezhava women, who were denied the right to wear nose studs. Siju Wilson had trained hard for playing the character by developing a bulky physique besides training in horse riding and Kalaripayattu.

Salman Khan’s new film ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ is getting ready for release on May 13. The film will release simultaneously in cinemas and digital mediums (pay per view). Meanwhile, the makers have shared the first single online.
The track titled ‘Seeti Maar’ features the two lead actors, Salman Khan and Disha Patani. Interestingly, ‘Seeti Maar’ is the recreated version of Telugu star Allu Arjun’s chartbuster track from the film ‘Duvvada Jagannadham’, released in 2017.

Earlier in the day, Salman took to his Twitter handle to thank Allu Arjun and shower praise on his impeccable dancing skills. He has tweeted,

It is produced jointly by Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Atul Agnihotri under the banners Salman Khan Films, Sohail Khan Productions and Reel Life Productions Private Limited respectively.

Tovino Thomas starrer Varavu is a mystery thriller

The first look poster of Tovino’s new film ‘Varavu’ was launched recently. Rakesh Mantodi, who has scripted films like ‘Thira’ and ‘Godha’, is making his directorial debut with this film. He is scripting it along with Saresh Malayankandi and popular lyricist Manu Manjith.

As per the makers, ‘Varavu’ is a mystery thriller set in the North Malabar region. The film revolves around certain local myths. The makers are still working on the pre-production, which includes the casting. Only Sreenivasan has been confirmed so far. Details regarding the supporting cast are expected to be formally announced before the film goes on floors.

On the technical front, the film has Guna Balasubramanian as the music department. Viswajith Odukkathil, who is making his debut as a cinematographer with the Pranav Mohanlal starrer ‘Hridhayam’, is cranking the camera for ‘Varavu’ as well. Pradeep Kumar Pathiyara is producing the film under the banner of Pathiyara Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
