New release date announced for Mammootty’s The Priest

‘The Priest’ is getting ready as Mammootty’s first release post-lockdown. The film was originally scheduled to hit screens during the first week of February but the makers have now pushed it to March 4. With one more month left for release, the pandemic situation is expected to get better and hopefully, more people will start visiting theatres.

‘The Priest’ is directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko. Scripted by ‘Kunjiramayanam’ fame Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Menon, the film is said to be a mystery thriller. It a big star cast comprising of several known actors. Manju Warrier and Mammootty are acting together for the first time. Nikhila Vimal, ‘Kaithi’ fame Baby Monica, Jagadheesh, Saniya Iyappan, Ramesh Pisharody, Ameya Mathew, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke will be seen in supporting roles.

On the technical front, Akhil George is the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed handles the edits. Rahul Raj is in charge of the music department. The film is being jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Maanaadu teaser to be released by Prithviraj, Anurag Kashyap, Kichcha Sudeep and Ravi Teja

Tamil star Simbu’s ‘Maanadu’ is a highly anticipated one among his fans. Touted to be a political drama, the film marks his first time union with ‘Mankatha’ director Venkat Prabhu. Its teaser will be released tomorrow (February 3) through the social media handles of various leading celebs. Anurag Kashyap, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kichcha Sudeep and Ravi Teja will be releasing the teaser at 2.34 PM.

‘Maanadau’ is a has Simbu playing a Muslim character named Adbul Khaaliq. Kalyani Priyadrashan essays the female lead’s part while SJ Suryah does the antagonist’s role. Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar, veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, his son Manoj Bharathi, Karunakaran and Premji Amaren will also be seen essaying important roles.

On the technical front, Richard M Nathan is the cinematographer and Praveen KL handles the edits. Venkat Prabhu’s frequent collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja has been retained as the music director for this film as well. It is being produced by Suresh Kamatchi under the banner of V House Productions.

Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who recently lead the team to a historic test series win in Australia, had a fun interactive session in Instagram on Saturday. When one of his followers asked him, if he had watched any Tamil films of late, Rahane replied that he recently watched ‘Soorarai Pottru’ and loved it. He wrote,

Yes, I watched Soorarai Pottru with subtitles. Absolutely loved it. Brilliant work by Suriya.

Interestingly, Rahane also asked for some more suggestions from his national teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, who hails from Tamil Nadu. The latter immediately replied back, by recommending the recently released Vijay starrer ‘Master’.

Ashwin is known to be very active in social medias. He also promotes Tamil films and regularly shares his thoughts on the films he enjoyed watching. Earlier, he had tweeted about how inspired he felt after watching ‘Soorarai Pottru’. He wrote that he’ll remember the film each time he boards a flight next. His tweet reads,

“Change” is the only constant in life, while the journey of the person trying to make that “change” can be toxic and challenging.

Last day, Ashwin also shared a clip of Vijay dancing in the song ‘Vaathi Coming’ from ‘Master’ in his Twitter handle.

Aarattu new poster out; Mohanlal-starrer promises to be an action-packed entertainer

As announced earlier, Mohanlal has shared a new poster of his upcoming ‘Aarattu’ through his social media handle. The superstar is seen performing an action scene in this poster. So it is quite evident that the film will be a treat for action film lovers. Earlier, the makers had claimed that ‘Aarattu’ is the first Malayalam film to have full fledged action scenes with stunt artists in the post-lockdown era.

Directed by B Unnikrishnan, the film is touted to be a proper, commercial mass entertainer. The film scripted by Udhayakrishna has Mohanlal playing a larger-than-life character named Neyyattinkara Gopan. Popular South Indian actress Shraddha Srinath, noted for her roles in ‘Vikram Vedha’ and Jersey’, plays the female lead. Siddique, Sai Kumar, Indrans, Neha Saxena, Nandu, Kochu Preman, Nedumudi Venu, Gaadha, Vijayaraghavan, Malavika Menon, Swasika, Rachana Narayanankutty and Sheela are part of the supporting cast.

‘Aarattu’ shoot is currently in the final stages and the makers are planning to release the film on August 12 during the Onam season.

Operation Java trailer out; A promising thriller about cyber crimes on the way!

As ‘Operation Java’ gets ready to hit screens on February 12, the makers have shared the film’s trailer online. The superstar trio of Malayalam cinema — Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi, have released the trailer through their respective social media handles. From the 2.30-minute long trailer, we can make out that this is an investigative film based on various cyber crimes we happen to see around us.

‘Operation Java’ is written and directed by debutant Tharun Moorthy. The film has an elaborate star cast comprising of Vinayakan, Lukman, Irshad, Balu Varghese, Shine Tom Chacko, Binu Pappu, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju, Vineetha Koshy, Johny Antony and Prashanth Alexander among others.

The makers have done several research works to gather information about cyber crimes and how the Kerala Police’s cyber department works. Several real-life incidents have been incorporated in the film, which is evident from the trailer itself. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Faiz Siddik, who has also cranked the camera for the upcoming films ‘Aanaparambile World Cup’, ‘The Wolf’ and ‘Adi’. Nishadh Yusuf handles the edits and Jakes Bejoy is in charge of the music department.

Fahadh Faasil’s Malayankunju launched

The launch event of Fahadh Faasil’s new film ‘Malayankunju’ was held on Thursday at Erattupetta. The star’s father, veteran director Fazil is producing the film. MLA PC George was the cheif guest at the switch on ceremony. The crew members including Fahadh, Mahesh Narayanan, Fazil and many others were present at the launch.

‘Malayankunju’ is directed by debutant Sajimon Prabhakar, who has assisted many senior filmmakers. Mahesh Narayanan, who had directed Fahadh in ‘Take Off’, ‘Malik’ and ‘CU Soon’, is scripting the film. As confirmed by the makers, it is a survival thriller based on a natural calamity.

Rajisha Vijayan will be seen as the female lead. Besides scripting the film, Mahesh Narayanan is also cranking the camera. Initially, Sanu John Varughese was supposed to be the cinematographer but he opted out due to other commitments. Editor Arju Benn, sound designers Vishnu Shankar-Sree Govind, production designer Jyothish Shankar, costumer Dhanya Balakrishnan, production controller Benny Kattappana and make up artist Ranjith Ambady are also part of the team.

Official: Gautham Menon and Simbu reunite!

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon and Simbu are all set to team up for the third time. The project, which has tentatively been titled as ‘Silambarasan TR 47’ got officially announced on Thursday. Dr Ishari K Ganesh of Vels International is producing the film.

Gautham Menon tweeted that this is a special project and it feels like homecoming to work with Simbu. The actor-director duo had previously worked together in ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ and ‘Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada’. Menon’s tweet reads,

Some projects & scripts are destined to be special. This one feels like that. Thank you @IshariKGanesh sir for making this happen in your own special way!

Simbu meanwhile has a highly promising line up of projects. He is currently shooting for Venkat Prabhu’s political film ‘Maanadu’. After that, he will be resuming works on ‘Pathu Thala’, the remake of hit Kannada film ‘Mufti’. Interestingly, Gautham Menon plays the villain role in it. Simbu has also committed for projects with directors Ram, Mysskin and Susienthiran.

Salute: Bollywood actress Diana Penty to star in Dulquer Salmaan-Rosshan Andrrews film?

Dulquer Salmaan’s new film with director Rosshan Andrrews is set to go on floors from next week. For the last couple of months, the makers had been busy with pre-production works including location scouting and finalizing the cast. Dulquer’s own production house Wayfarer Films is producing the film.

As per latest reports, Bollywood actress Diana Penty is making her Malayalam debut with this film. She is noted for her roles in films like ‘Cocktail’, ‘Lucknow Central’ and ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’. The makers of Dulquer’s film are yet to confirm the news.

Bobby-Sanjay is scripting the film, which is rumoured to be titled as ‘Salute’. It is an investigative thriller in which Dulquer will be seen as a cop. Though the actor had appeared as a cop briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this is first time he is playing a full-fledged police officer’s role. So expectations are high among the fans.

Suriya’s new film with director Pandiraj is gearing up to start rolling. Sun Pictures is producing the film, which has been tentatively titled as ‘Suriya 40’. For the last few weeks, there have been speculations about ‘Gang Leader’ fame Priyanka Arul Mohan being approached to play the female lead’s role. Finally, the official confirmation was made on Thursday.

‘Suriya 40’ will be Priyanka’s second Tamil film. She is making her debut with ‘Doctor’, in which she is paired with Sivakarthikeyan. The actress shot to fame with the hit Telugu film ‘Gang Leader’. Apparently, director Pandiraj was impressed with her performance in it and decided to cast her.

‘Suriya 40’ is expected to be a mass commercial entertainer that appeals to all sections of the audience. It is most likely to be on lines of Pandiraj’s blockbuster films ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ and ‘Namma Veettu Pillai’. The director has retained composer D Imman for this film as well. In what comes as a big surprise, Dhanush’s highly anticipated film ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ might skip a theatrical release. As per latest reports, the film is getting ready to premiere in Netflix. Though theatres have resumed functioning, the streaming giant has offered a huge sum which the makers don’t want to miss out. S Sashikanth of Y Not Studios is producing the film.

Interestingly, the producer has unfollowed Dhanush in Instagram and Twitter which leads to speculations that there is a rift within the team. Apparently, the star has pinned high hopes on the film and was hopeful of getting a theatrical release.

‘Jagame Thandhiram’ is written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Expectations are high as the actor-director duo are teaming up for the first time. It is a gangster flick, major portions of which are set in the UK. Dhanush will be appearing in two different looks in the film, one as a Madurai based gangster and the other set in London.

Aishwarya Lekshmi and ‘Game Over’ fame Sanchana Natarajan will be seen as the two female leads. Hollywood actor James Cosmo, who has starred in films like ‘Braveheart’, ‘Troy’ and the popular TV series ‘Game of Thrones’, is also essaying a crucial role in the film. Malayali actor Joju George and ‘Madras’ fame Kalaiyarasan are also part of the supporting cast.
