Shyamaprasad confirms teaming up with Mammootty!

We were among the first to report about Mammootty teaming up with Shyamaprasad for a film based on Sarah Joseph’s novel, ‘Aalohari Aanandam’. Though it’s been quite a while since the news first came, Shyamaprasad has confirmed that the project is indeed happening. In an interview to The Cue, the award-winning filmmaker revealed that he had been working on the script for the past three years.

‘Aalohari Anandam’, set in a large Christian household, dissects different faces of man-woman relationships as well as sexual orientation. Its story deals with the homosexuality of a married woman and the impact it has on her life and society.

Mammootty and Shyamaprasad have previously worked together in ‘Ore Kadal’, a widely acclaimed film that went on to be screened at numerous international film festivals, including IFFI. As he is reuniting with Mammootty after a long gap, the director is keen to try something different from their previous film. If all goes well, they might start shooting by June. Royal Cinemas is most likely to produce the film.

Asif Ali starrer ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ is an eagerly awaited film. Directed by Rajeev Ravi, it is an investigation thriller based on real incidents. Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne, Sharafudheen, Alencier Ley Lopez and Senthil Krishna play major roles in the film. Interestingly, all of them play cops in the film. Asif essays the role of a Circle Inspector named Sajan Philip and he has shared a location still featuring him in a police uniform.

Sibi Thomas, a real policeman, who had acted in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, has scripted ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ along with Sreejith Divakaran. The film is based on a jewellery robbery that occured in Kasargod in 2015. The case took a 5-member team from the Kerala police force to a dreaded village in Uttar Pradesh where they risked their lives to nab the culprits.

Sibi Thomas was the investigation officer in that case. Asif Ali is reprising his role in the film.

Operation Java trailer to be released by Malayalam cinema’s superstar trio!

After getting certified with a clean U from the censor board, ‘Operation Java’ is all set to hit screens on February 12. Prior to that, the makers have planned to release the trailer. The superstar trio of Malayalam cinema — Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi, will be sharing the trailer through their respective social media handles on February 1 at 6 PM. Earlier, the teaser was released by leading stars like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Kunchacko Boban, Nimisha Sajayan and Asif Ali.

‘Operation Java’ is written and directed by debutant Tharun Moorthy. From the promos, the film promises to be an investigative thriller that is based on some real-life incidents. Vinayakan, Balu Varghese, Shine Tom Chacko, Mathew Thomas, Binu Pappu, Irshad, Lukman, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju, Vineetha Koshy, Johny Antony and Prashanth Alexander play major roles in the film.

On the technical front, ‘Operation Java’ has cinematography by Faiz Siddik, who has also cranked the camera for the upcoming films ‘Aanaparambile World Cup’, ‘The Wolf’ and ‘Adi’. Nishadh Yusuf handles the edits and Jakes Bejoy is in charge of the music department. The film is produced by V Cinemas International.

Ramesh Pisharody’s next film to be produced by Aashirvad Cinemas?

One of the leading production houses in Malayalam, Aashirvad Cinemas is celebrating their 21st anniversary. The banner headed by Antony Perumbavoor has produced several blockbuster films starring Mohanlal. ‘Narasimham’, ‘Ravanaprabhu’, ‘Naran’, ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Lucifer’ were some of their biggest hits. The banner currently has four projects lined up — ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’, ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘L2: Empuraan’ and ‘Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure’.

Latest buzz in social medias is that Aashirvad Cinemas is set to produce a new film to be helmed by Ramesh Pisharody. The actor-turned-filmmaker has so far directed two films — ‘Panchavarnathatha’, starring Kunchacko Boban and Jayaram, and ‘Ganagandharvan’ with Mammootty.

If news about Pisharody teaming up with Aashirvad Cinemas is true, Mohanlal is most likely to star in it. It must be noted that except for ‘Aadhi’, all other films produced by the banner were with Mohanlal. We still have to wait for a confirmation.

As announced earlier, Dhruv Vikram is teaming up next with director Mari Selvaraj of ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame. The young actor is thrilled about the project that has Pa Ranjith as one of the producers. It is said to be a sports-based film and Dhruv has been putting in a lot of efforts for it.

Recently, Pa Ranjith had tweeted about how excited he is join the team. It must be noted that he was the producer of Mari Selvaraj’s acclaimed debut film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ as well. Ranjith’s tweet reads,

Meanwhile, Mari Selvaraj’s ‘Karnan’ starring Dhanush is in the final stages of post-production. Both cinephiles and common audience are eagerly looking forward to the film, which makes it one of the most hyped films of the year. The director is likely to start works on Dhurv’s film even before ‘Karnan’ release.

After the superhit success of ‘Shylock’, director Ajai Vausdev and writers Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed are teaming up next for a multi-starrer. Buzz is that Mammootty and Dileep will be playing the leads in this film. Though the makers are yet to confirm this, it will be huge if they manage to bring the two stars together.

It must be noted that Dileep and Mammootty have shared screen space in numerous films like ‘Megham’, ‘Rakshasa Rajavu’, ‘Kaliyoonjal’ etc. ‘Kammath and Kammath’, released in 2013, was the last time the duo played full fledged roles together. Currently, both the stars have multiple projects lined up.

Director Ajai Vasudev is also set to begin works on his new film with Asif Ali. Unlike his previous films, which were all mass masala entertainers, his new film, ‘Naalam Thoonu’ is said to be a media-based political thriller. S Suresh Babu is scripting the film that also has Suraj Venjaramoodu, Neeta Pillai and Arjun Ashokan in major roles.

Dhanush’s ‘Karnan’ is a highly anticipated film among cinephiles. Mari Selvaraj, who made an excellent debut with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, is directing the film. Its release announcement teaser has just been shared online. Though the exact date has not been finalized, the film will be hitting screens in April.

‘Karnan’ is a rural-based film that is partly inspired from real life incidents. Just like Mari Selvaraj’s widely acclaimed ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, this film is also expected to have hard-hitting politics in it. Recently, music director Santhosh Narayanan had tweeted that he was left stunned after watching the film and congratulated the whole crew behind it.

‘Karnan’ marks the Tamil debut of Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan. The supporting cast also includes Lal, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli, Azhagar Perumal, Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian, ’96’ fame Gouri Kishan and Yogi Babu.

Here’s the much-awaited release date of KGF: Chapter 2

The makers of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ have announced the film’s release date. As speculated earlier, it will be hitting screens worldwide on July 16. The film will be releasing simultaneously in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Actor Prithviraj’s banner Prithviraj Productions will be releasing the Malayalam version.

‘KGF: Chapter 2’ is keenly awaited by cinephiles across the country. Thanks to the massive success of the first part, expectations are multifold this time. Last month, when the teaser came out, it met with phenomenal response from all corners clocking millions of views in record time.

‘KGF 2’ directed by Prashanth Neel has Yash reprising the lead role of Rocky. Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt will be seen as the antagonist, Adheera. The film traces the journey of a dreaded criminal Rocky and his desire to rule the gold mines of Kolar results in a war with the villain, Adheera. Ranveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Anant Nag, Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N Simha and Malavika Avinash are also part of the film’s supporting cast.

Director Ajai Vasudev’s new film ‘Nalaam Thoonu’ got launched recently at Kochi. The film has Asif Ali and ‘Poomaram’ fame Neeta Pillai as the leads. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Arjun Ashokan will also be seen essaying major roles. Gokulam Gopalan is producing the film under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

‘Nalaam Thoonu’ is Ajai Vasudev’s fourth directorial venture. Unlike, his other three films — ‘Rajadhiraja’, ‘Masterpiece’ and ‘Shylock’, which were all mass-masala entertainers, this one is a media based political thriller. S Suresh Babu is scripting the film.

For ‘Nalaam Thoonu’, Ajai Vasudev has retained almost the same technical team from his last film, ‘Shylock’. Music director Gopi Sunder, cinematographer Renadive, editor Riyas K Badhar form the core team. The film has been planned to be shot in and around Kochi. Details regarding the supporting cast and when shoot begins are expected to be announced by the makers in the coming days.

Big Brother fame Gaadha shares screen space with Mohanlal again in Aarattu

Gaadha, who made her Malayalam debut with the Mohanlal-starrer ‘Big Brother’, is sharing screen space with the superstar once again. She is part of the upcoming film ‘Aarattu’, shoot for which is currently progressing. Unlike her debut film, Gaadha plays a rural-based character this time. She will be seen essaying the role of Nedumudi Venu’s grand daughter.

‘Aarattu’ directed by B Unnikrishnan is touted to be a commercial mass entertainer. The film scripted by Udhayakrishna has Mohanlal playing a larger-than-life character named Neyyattinkara Gopan. Along with him, there is an elaborate supporting cast.

Popular South Indian actress Shraddha Srinath, noted for her roles in ‘Vikram Vedha’ and Jersey’, plays the female lead. Siddique, Sai Kumar, Indrans, Neha Saxena, Nandu, Kochu Preman, Vijayaraghavan, Malavika Menon, Swasika, Rachana Narayanankutty and Sheela are also part of the film.

Shoot is in the final stages and the makers are planning to release the film on August 12 during the Onam season.
