Anaswara Rajan starrer Vaanku release date announced

As theatres have resumed functioning in Kerala, release dates of new Malayalam films are being announced. ‘Vaanku’ starring ‘Thanneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Anaswara Rajan will be hitting screens on January 29. The film, which marks the directorial debut of VK Prakash’s daughter Kavya Prakash, has also been selected for screening at the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). It is among the 12 films selected in the Malayalam Cinema Today section.

‘Vaanku’ is adapted from a popular short story of the same name written by Unni R. Shabna Muhammed has adpated Unni R’s story to a screenplay format. The film is about a college-going girl’s desire to become a muezzin like her father and call the azan against the will of the religious fundamentalists.

Vineeth plays Anaswara’s father in the film. Other known faces in the cast include Major Ravi, Srikanth Murali, ‘Guppy’ fame Nandana Varma, Joy Mathew, Thesni Khan, Prakash Bare, Gopika Ramesh, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, Shrikanth Murali and Sarasa Balussery.

‘Vaanku’ is produced by Sirajudheen K P and Shabeer Path Banner. Major Ravi’s son Arjun Ravi is the cinematographer and music department is handled by Ouseppachan. 7J Films and Shimoga Creations are presenting the film in association with Trends Ad Filmmakers Pvt Ltd.

Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Master’ is releasing tomorrow (January 13) amidst huge expectations. Theatre bookings have opened in Tamil Nadu and Kerala with only 50% occupancy allowed. Most shows for the opening day have already been booked housefull. The film’s dubbed Telugu version is also releasing on the same day while the Hindi version is slated for release on January 14.

Meanwhile, the makers of ‘Master’ have released a new promo video online. It is another action packed one that has shots of the two stars delivering punches. It is the face-off between Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi that is eagerly awaited by many. While Vijay plays a college professor named John Durairaj in ‘Master’, Vijay Sethupathi essays the role of a gangster named Bhavani.

‘Master’ also stars Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Sriman and Gouri Kishan. Xavier Britto is producing the film under the banner of XB Pictures.

Post-production works of Mammootty’s ‘The Priest’ are progressing at a brisk pace. Dubbing works are currently underway. Actress Manju Warrier has shared photos of her dubbing for the film in her social media handle. It is a special film because it is the first time Mammootty and Manju Warrier are acting together despite being in the industry for so long.

‘The Priest’ directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko is said to be a mystery thriller. The makers have only released some posters featuring Mammootty and all of them looked promising retaining the mystery element. The film has an elaborate cast which includes Nikhila Vimal, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, Ameya Mathew, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke.

On the technical front, Akhil George has handled the camera and Shameer Muhammed is editing the film. Music director Rahul Raj is currently working on the background score. It is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

‘The Priest’ will be Mammootty’s first theatrical release post-pandemic. An exact date has not yet been announced.

With just two days left for release, the makers have released a new poster featuring the two lead stars, Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. It is probably a shot from the climax portion, which according to the makers will be one of the film’s major highlights.

Vijay Sethupathi’s Tughlaq Durbar teaser is promising

Vijay Sethupathi has multiple projects lined up and one among them is ‘Tughlaq Durbar’. The film’s teaser got released today. It looks like a mass entertainer that touches upon local politics. The film is directed by debutant Delhi Prasad Deenadayal.

‘Tughlaq Durbar’ has Sethupathi playing a character named Singam. The story revolves around the transformation of Singam from a betrayer into a good person. Raashi Khanna is paired with Sethupathi in the film. Malayali actress Manjima Mohan is also essaying a crucial character as his sister. Veteran actor Parthiepan plays the antagonist’s role.

Accoring to the makers, ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ has an out-and-out mass subject. Balaji Tharaneetharan, who has directed films like ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’ and ‘Seethakaathi’, has written the dialogues. The film’s technical team includes Manoj Paramahamsa as the DOP and Govind Vasantha as the music director.

‘Tughlaq Durbar’ is being produced jointly by 7 Screen Studio and Viacom 18.

For the last few days, ‘Master’ makers have been promo videos through their Twitter handle. The sixth promo video got released last day. It features both Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi with the track ‘Polakattum Para Para’, composed by Anirudh, in the background. While Vijay Sethupathi is seen dancing and having fun with a bunch of gangsters, Vijay can be seen delivering some punches.

‘Master’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi pitted against each other. The former plays an alcoholic college professor, while Sethupathi essays the villain role of a villainous gangster named Bhavani. Others in the cast include Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das and Gouri Kishan among others.

‘Master’ is all set for a massive release on January 13. Since the Tamil Nadu government has only allowed 50% occupancy, there is a great demand for tickets. Most screens have already been sold out for the opening day. The film is also getting dubbed and released in Hindi and Telugu. The Telugu version is releasing simultaneously on January 13, while the Hindi dubbed version will be out on January 14.

The teaser of Arun Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Sinam’ has just been released. The film directed by GNR Kumaravelan of ‘Haridas’ fame looks like an action thriller. Arun Vijay plays a police officer’s role in the film. He essays a sub-Inspector’s character named Pari Venkat. Palak Lalwani plays the female lead. The cast includes Kaali Venkat, RNR Manohar, KSG Venkatesh, Marumalarchi Bharathi and others.

From the teaser, ‘Sinam’ promises to be an intense crime thriller. The teaser has Arun Vijay’s character saying, “Not just me, but everyone should get angry and only that will instill fear among the people who do evil things.”

According to Arun Vijay, ‘Sinam’ has a strong content with the right balance of family emotions and action. He will be sporting two different looks in the film.The actor’s father R Vijaykumar is producing the film under his banner Movie Slides Pvt Ltd. Music is composed by Shabir and S Gopinath has handled the camera. The film is expected to hit screens in March.

Last day, on the first anniversary of ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, the makers announced their reunion for, ‘Aaram Pathiraa’. It is not exactly a sequel but will have Kunchacko Boban reprising the lead character of criminologist Anwar Hussain. Midhun Maneul Thomas is directing the film and Ashiq Usman is producing it.

According to director Midhun, ‘Aaram Pathiraa’ will be a totally different thriller. The new film will be centered around another investigation lead by Anwar. Unlike ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, which was set in Kochi, this film is set in a hill station. The makers have retained the same technical team, which includes cinematographer Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ was a huge success at the box office. It emerged as one of the biggest hits in Kunchacko Boban’s two-decade-long career. The makers are confident that the new film film will break the benchmark set by ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’. They are planning to start shoot by the second half of 2021 and release it in December for Christmas.

We had recently reported about Mani Ratnam resuming shoot for his mega-budget film, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. After almost 8 months of break due to the pandemic, the team is currently shooting at thr Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. Actor Rahman has joined the sets and shared about the overwhelming experience he had while shooting alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Rahman has written,

Hi friends. Need you good wishes and prayers. I started my first day shoot for the movie “ ponnin selvan “, directed by Maniratnam. At Ramoji Film City Hyderabad. First shot was the the talented gorgeous @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb , am so overwhelmed having to share a screen space with her. Sorry folks , Can not post pics of the shoot as per privacy rules. Later perhaps. #ponninselvan

‘Ponniyim Selvan’ cast includes Vikram, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Kishore, Jayaram, Lal and Ashwin Kakumanu. It remains to be seen if any of the actors have opted out of the project, due to the unexpected change in dates and schedules.
