Vikram’s Cobra teaser to be screened in theatres along with Vijay’s Master!

Tamil film industry is now in a rejuvenated state after the State government granted permission to to increase the seating capacity of cinemas, theatres and multiplexes from existing 50% to 100%. Tamil Nadu has become the first state in India to allow cinema halls to operate at full 100% capacity. The government issued the order after requested from various film bodies, who have suffered hundreds of crores in the past eight months.

Vijay’s ‘Master’ is set to be the first major theatrical release once theatres resume functioning normally. Expectations are sky-high for the film and its theatrical is expected to be a huge booster for the whole industry. Meanwhile, reports are emerging that the makers of Vikram’s ‘Cobra’ are also planning to cash in on the ‘Master’ wave by releasing the teaser along with it.

‘Cobra’ teaser will be released online on January 9 and it will subsequently be attached with ‘Master’ theatre prints. It must be noted that the worldwide distribution rights of ‘Master’ is acquired by Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, who is also the producer of ‘Cobra’.

The trailer of upcoming Hindi film ‘Madam Chief Minister’ has been released online. Richa Chadha plays the lead role in the film directed by Subhash Kapoor. It is a political drama loosely based on the life of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati. The film film is scheduled for theatrical release on 22 January 2021.

Last day, when the makers released the first look poster, it was met with severe criticism in social medias. In the poster, Richa can be seen holding a broom, covered in muck. The tagline reads, “Untouchable, unstoppable.” The poster has received backlash for being misrepresenting the Dalit community, reinforcing stereotypes and for not casting a Dalit actor in the lead role.

‘Madam Chief Minister’ is about a Dalit woman’s rise from humble backgrounds to become the State’s CM. Manav Kaul, Akshay Oberoi, Saurabh Shukla and Subhrajyoti Barat will be seen essaying major roles in the film.

Master makers release Vaathi Coming teaser!

With hardly a week left for the release of ‘Master’, the makers have shared a short teaser of the chartbuster song ‘Vaathi Coming’. It features Vijay dancing along with a bunch of dancers and artists like Prem, Sanjay, Nagendra Prasad and Sriman. Ever since the music album of ‘Master’ got released, the track ‘Vaathi Coming’ has become quite a rage. The song found huge acceptance among the public especially kids and youngsters. Thanks to the minimal yet quirky lyrics penned by Ka Ka Balachander and Anirudh Ravichander’s terrific beats, the song instantly lifts up the mood. It is most likely to be Vijay’s introduction song in the film.

The whole of Tamil film industry is eagerly looking forward to ‘Master’ as it is the first major theatrical release in almost 8 months. Accepting the industry insiders’ request, the Tamil Nadu government had recently issued an order permitting to increase the seating capacity of cinemas, theatres and multiplexes from existing 50% to 100%. Tamil Nadu has become the first state in India to allow cinema halls to operate at full 100% capacity.

The decision to increase the crowd capacity in theatres should prove to be a huge booster for the film industry that has suffered losses worth hundreds of crores over the past eight months. While ‘Master’ is slated for release on January 13, Simbu’s ‘Eeswaran’ is scheduled to hit screens the next day, on January 14

KGF music director Ravi Basrur to make his Malayalam debut with Muddy

Ravi Basrur is a popular music director in the Kannada film industry. He is best known for his work in films such as Ekka Saka, Just Maduveli (2015) and Karvva (2016). His sensational work in the biggie ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ made him popular nationwide. He has been retained for ‘KGF 2′ and Prabhas’ upcoming film ‘Salaar’ as well.

Ravi Basrur is now making his Malayalam debut with ‘Muddy’ directed by Dr Pragabhal. It is said to be the first Indian movie based on off-road mud racing (4*4). As per the makers, it is a thrilling-adventurous film that will offer the viewers an innovative cinematic experience.

‘Muddy’ stars newcomers Premdas Krishna and Yuvan in the lead roles. The cast includes noted actors such as Renji Panicker, Hareesh Peradi, IM Vijayan, Guinness Manoj, Sunil Sugatha, Sobha Mohan and Bineesh Bastin. The film is directed by Pragabhal. He has also scripted the film along with Mahesh Chandran and Sreenath Nair. The film has KG Ratheesh as the cinematographer and edits done by San Lokesh of ‘Ratsasan’ fame.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s upcoming directorial ‘Hridayam’ starring Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leads is hugely awaited by the Malayali audience. The film’s shoot was fast progressing when the lockdown was announced. As the remaining portions demands to be shot outdoor with several crowd sequences, the team had been waiting for the pandemic situation to get better. They are now planning to resume shoot with a 35-day long schedule.

Meanwhile, producer Vishak Subramaniam, who heads Merryland Cinemas, has revealed that neither Vineeth Sreenivasan nor Pranav Mohanlal have taken any remuneration for the film yet. Though many leading OTTs had approached him with lucrative offers, Vishak is keen to release his film only in theatres. He feels that OTTs are interested only in films with big names it. Being a producer and a theatre owner, he believes it is his responsibility to support small-scale films and fellow exhibitors.

Besides ‘Hridayam’, Vishak also has three other films lined up — ‘Sajan Bakery Since 1965’, ‘Prakashan Parakatte’ and ‘9 MM’

Suraj Venjaramoodu-Nimisha Sajayan starrer The Great Indian Kitchen to get a direct OTT release

‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ starring Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nimisha Sajayan as the leads is getting a direct OTT release. The film will be having its world premiere in Nee Stream, a newly launched streaming platform. Release date has not yet been announced.

The Great Indian Kitchen’ is written and directed by Jeo Baby of ‘2 Penkuttikal’ and ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ fame. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nimisha Sajayan play a married couple in the film. This is their second film together after sharing screen space in the National award winning film, ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’. The teaser of ‘Great Indian Kitchen’ was highly promising and looked like a family drama centred around the newlyweds.

The film has Salu K Thomas as the cinematographer and Francis Louis as the editor. Sooraj S Kurup is handling the music department along with Mathews Pulickan. Dijo Augustine, Jomon Jacob, Vishnu Rajan and Sajin S Raj are jointly producing the film under the banners of Mankind Cinemas, Symmetry Cinemas and Cinema Cooks.

Recently, there were rumours about Dhruv Vikram joining hands with director Mari Selvaraj of ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame. The young actor has now confirmed it through his social media handle. Sharing a photo taken with the director, Dhruv wrote,

Dhruv made an impressive debut with ‘Adithya Varma’, the remake of blockbuster Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’. Though the Tamil version didn’t click at the box office, his performance in it earned appreciation. His new film with Mari Selvaraj is said to be a sports flick and it will be produced by Pa Ranjith.

Dhruv has also signed a film with director Karthik Subbaraj, in which he will be sharing screen space with his father, Vikram. The film, which is yet-to-be titled is reportedly a gangster drama.

Meanwhile, Mari Selvaraj has finished the shoot of his second film ‘Karnan’ that has Dhanush in the lead.

Prithviraj Productions to release KGF 2 in Malayalam

‘KGF Chapter 2’ is one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema this year. Thanks to the humongous success of the first part, film lovers across the country are eagerly waiting for the sequel. The film is set to be released in 5 languages — Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu.

The Malayalam version will be presented by actor Prithviraj’s banner Prithviraj Productions. The star himself announced the big news through his social media handle. In his Facebook page, Prithviraj has written that being a huge fan of ‘KGF’ like million others, he is also waiting to see Rocky’s tale unfold. His post reads,

I’m a huge fan of the KGF franchise and pretty much everything associated with it. Hombale films was among the first to reach out to me after Lucifer and discuss the possibility of an association. I definitely look forward to that but no better way to start the journey than to have the privilege of presenting one of the most anticipated films in the country. Meanwhile, the makers of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ have announced that the film’s teaser will be out on January 8 at 10.18 AM. It will be released through Hombale Films YouTube channel in all five languages. Prashanth Neel is directing the film that has Yash reprising his role of Rocky. Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt will be seen as the antagonist, Adheera.

Ranveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Anant Nag, Rao Ramesh, Prakash Raj, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N Simha and Malavika Avinash are also part of the film’s supporting cast.

We had recently reported about Prithviraj acting in a new film titled ‘Kuruthi’. Debutant Manu Warrier is directing the film that has a star-studded cast. In less than a month, the makers have successfully wrapped up its shoot. Prithviraj, who is also producing the film, informed the same through his social media handle. In a brief noted, the actor heaped praise on the team for completing the film in such quick time without compromising on any quality. He added that he felt both as a producer and an actor on being part of ‘Kuruthi. According to him, it is the fastest film he has shot for in his entire career.

In a career spanning 2 decades and more than a 100 films, Kuruthi has to be one of the most intense, fast paced shooting schedules I have ever been a part of. To make a full length feature film that has songs, thrills, suspense, high risk scenes, choreographed action and chase sequences and stunts in the deep forest…all this in such a short span of time, and yet achieve top quality technical finesse is incredible. Absolute full marks to the crew to have kept pace with this fast yet superbly efficient process. ‘Kuruthi’ scripted by Anish Pallyal is said to be an action-thriller. It has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Murali Gopy, Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko, Srindaa, Mamukkoya, Manikandan R Achari, Navas Vallikkunnu, ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Naslen and ‘Thatteem Mutteem’ fame Sagar Surya.

Abhinandan Ramanujam is the cinematographer and music is by Jakes Bejoy. Akhilesh Mohan is the editor. Supriya Menon is producing the film under the banner of Prithviraj Productions.
